It's connected to a store next
Door called camera obscura.

And the way they're connected
Is through the basement.

The employees of camera obscura
Are so terrified

And so frightened

That they won't go
Into the basement alone.

have they seen anything
Or they just have heard stories?

No, they've seen things.

Firsthand experience here.

Absolutely.

They believe that
The paranormal activity

Has spilled over
Into their building.

We're in what was
Reverend guffy's ragged school,

Which was a school
For orphaned children.

Ran from 1860 to 1920.

I'm a bit of a skeptic.

I've never really been
Into ghosts.

I never read about ghosts.

I've never even seen a ghost.

But since I've been here,

There's definite things
Going on.

I'm still not convinced
They're ghosts,

But there's definitely things
That can't be explained.

It's been abandoned
In a derelict state like this

For 40, 50 years, and there's
Been quite a lot of--

Recently-- quite a lot
Of activity going on here.

Robb:

Set up the ragged school

to teach children who couldn't
Really afford to go to school.

'cause back in those days,
You had to pay for your lessons.

So he took children
Off the streets

So he could teach them a trade.

In now is the very top

Of what was the ragged school.

We believe it was a sort of
Basic accommodation

Where the kids slept.

It was also sort of
A top-floor flat

Until the late '50s, early '60s.

I lived in the top floor--
It was the ragged school--

With my mom and dad
And my brothers and sisters.

When we lived here,
We all heard the footsteps,

But there was never
Anybody there.

Over in that corner
Over there,

And a man has been seen
Standing in the corner.

In the actual camera obscura
Building itself,

There's quite a few things
That happened in there.

Love to see it.

And the camera obscura building

stand side by side.

one dates from 1853.
The other part dates from 1850.

They're on different levels.

They are linked
At basement level.

Guys, what you're inside now

Is the actual
Camera obscura itself.

The camera obscura is basically
A giant pinhole camera.

it's a large, concave, white,
Concrete table in the center,

And a single pipe that actually
Comes down right over it,

And that's the actual
Pinhole camera.

And you'd get a whole panoramic
View of edinburgh.

Johnson:
Several of my guidance staff,

When giving guided tours
In the camera obscura,

Have seen or sensed or felt
Somebody in the room

Who turns out not to be there.

We nicknamed this guy george
'cause he's seen quite a lot.

Because, supposedly,
There's been a lot of sightings

Of a man in the corner

Evp stands for
"Electronic voice phenomenon,"

And what that means is,
When you do a recording

And you find a noise
Or sound that we did not hear

With our own ears at the time
Of the recording,

At that point, we start to think
That there's a possibility

That we're making contact
With a spirit.

Came walking right behind me.

I don't know what it was.
I turned around, it was gone.

Somebody came right past me,

And opened that door
About 3 or 4 inches wide.

Did you grab
The emf detector?

No. No, I didn't have time
To grab anything.

It was already going
Out the door.

While at the command center,

Brian saw a shadow move across
The room.

That's a great personal
Experience,

but the problem with that is

brian failed to grab
Any equipment.

he could have grabbed a camera,
An emf gauge,

And gone after this thing.

All we've got left is a great
Story and no evidence.

Brian: when I went to turn
Around, it was gone,

And that's when the door
Went "Errr."

To the basement

To do some investigating.

As we were looking into a room
That was off to the side...

That a flash over there?
Yeah, I saw it.

...We saw a flash of light
About 3 feet up the wall

On the far wall.

We hit that light as soon
As we got down here.

So we went exactly
To where the spot was

Where we saw the flash
Coming at us,

But there was nothing there.

There was nothing reflective,

There was no lights it could
Have been reflecting off of.

Very, very obvious cold spot
Where I was standing.

Barry and I went down
To the basement,

And to our right,
We saw a bright flash

Coming out of that room.

Now, keep in mind, we didn't
Have any flashlights on.

We went in,
We inspected the entire room.

There was nothing there.

And, of course, personal
Experiences are great,

But what gets us
Really excited

Is the actual evidence
From the equipment that we use.

What I want to do now is play
For you something

That we caught on tape
After we saw that flash.

Was take as many pictures
As we possibly can

With our still cameras.

This is actually on the top
Floor of the school

In that side room.

Yeah, there's definitely
Something there.

It's like a face.

You can see the eyes,
Definitely.

And the top of the head.
Definitely see a nose and lips.

It's at a slant,
Coming out like that.

Yeah, I'm with you there.

Yeah, that is spooky.

Now, there's more
That went into this.

We were lucky enough to be able
To speak to bella,

Who was the last
Resident here.

And she was able
To provide us

With some photographs
Of her father,

Who also stayed here.

The image looks like him.

If you had to choose between
These two men, that one.

The nose and the eyes--
Striking resemblance.

Okay, that's a bit spooky.

This all happened
In the side room,

Which, when we did
Our research,

We found that this gentleman
In this picture,

Died in that bedroom.

That's pretty amazing.

After much debate and a thorough
Review of the evidence,

We, as a team,
Have concluded

That, indeed,
This is a haunted location.

That's really spooky.

I wouldn't worry about it.
Nothing bad has happened.

It doesn't appear
To be dangerous.

To have died there.

Supposedly, footsteps are heard
On the first-floor landing,

Room alarms are mysteriously
Activated when nobody is around.

We also have visual stuff
Happening, too.

A lot of the visitors
And employees

Have witnessed apparitions.

And in addition, guys,

Belgrave hall
Became widely known

For its haunted reputation
Back in 1998

When a closed-circuit camera
Had caught a series of images,

And the footage
Actually shows two figures

Dressed in victorian clothing.

sounds exciting, donna.

What they thought was people

And it was like orange,
Sort of red.

Recently,
I went to belgrave hall,

And I managed to stay in there
For about two minutes,

and I just felt so ill, felt
Like I was gonna pass out.

Stones were being shook,

People were having
Their hair touched,

And my friend got pulled
By the trousers,

Which just freaked her out
So much.

She ran out of the room
Crying her eyes out,

And I've never seen her
In a state like that.

Gilbert: okay. We're on
The first-floor landing.

This is where footsteps
Are heard.

And that is where
The lady's actually been seen

Peering out of the window.

Bilter: as I was
On the first-floor landing,

I was looking back, and out
Of the corner of my eye,

Through the banisters,

I could see a skirt and boots
Walking across.

When I sort of actually thought,

"What?" and looked,
Then the image had gone.

As far as who that might be?

It's his room.
It's one of the ellis sisters.

There was five sisters?

There was three that actually
Lived here until they died.

This would have been
A family home.

A very, very remembered place
For them.

Three weeks ago, I was sitting

Of a ghost was caught on camera

It was raining cats and dogs,

There was a mist
Rolling across the wall,

which, again, was strange

because with the rain as it was,
Where was this mist coming from?

It just seemed like a ball
Of mist rolling across the wall.

There was a fox.
The fox triggered the light.

While the lights were on,
These two figures appeared.

They never came from anywhere,
They never left to anywhere.

One minute, they were there,
Next minute, they were gone.

When I first saw the video,

I didn't know
What to think of it.

But as a skeptic,
I knew right then and there

That I wanted barry and andy
To try and debunk it.

The tour was excellent.

This is the kind
Of investigation

That I'm really excited about

Because there's a ton of stuff
That we can debunk

And really go after and find out
What's really going on here.

He was able to find the exact
Board that created that sound.

A manifestation has appeared
In the corner over there

and witnessed by a group
Of 15 people or so.

That were kind of uncanny.

Something was going on

She saw that photo and said,

And then boom, got the evp.

Weather pattern.

That took the original footage
Years ago.

Shows that it could

We're pretty happy with the way

As you can see, very normal.

The reddish color

That seems to emanate around
The box in that corner.

Yes, I do.

I have seen it,
As well, actually.

It had a reddish tinge.

I told you, I think, it started
Off orange and then went red.

Here's a picture that occurred
Right after.

Andy and I tried very hard
To re-create that photo.

I made sure that I had a finger
In front of the flash.

We did everything we possibly
Could to try to re-create it,

And we weren't able to.

Now, what's also
Interesting here is,

Right after this last picture
Was taken,

Donna says, "Is that you?"

Asking the spirit,
"Are you present?"

This is the response
She got.

Donna:
were you just here?

Man:yes.

were you just here?

yes.

That's quite amazing.

And he follows it in.

We did capture something
That we'd like to play for you

"That's a flashlight."

It seems as if you got
Two independent images,

One being where the light
Is coming from,

One being where the light
Is striking

When it comes out
Of the flashlight.

Couple problems with that.

One, there was no one
In that area.

Two, you would have
Seen them

Come around the hedge area
Further on.

Three, if it's someone walking
With a flashlight,

Why didn't it turn on
The motion detector

As all other movement
In that area does?

That is pretty amazing.

Very, very interesting.
Quite amazing.
