is one of the world's

largest art galleries.

Our permanent collection
contains over two
million artworks,

as well as an extensive
holding of African,

Asian, Oceanian,
Byzantine, and Islamic art.

Now, here we are about to enter

one of my favorite
styles of painting.

Who knows what style
of painting this is?

- [Students] Impressionism?

- That's right.

The impressionist
artists didn't try

to paint realistic pictures,

but merely an impression
of what they saw.

Claude Monet said, "Try
to forget what objects

"are before you: a
tree, a house, a field.

"Merely think, 'Here is
a little square of blue,

"'here an oblong of pink,
here a yellow streak,'

"and try to paint exactly
as it looks to you,

"the exact shape and
color, until it gives you

"your own impression of
the scene before you."

- He saw something beautiful.

and the movement.

It's so free.

I could admire it all day.

But I can't, because

is the hardest part.

should loosen the glue.

- They look exactly alike to me.

is, but it's not too stark.

And this one has a lot of depth,
with a little hint of gray.

And this one is clean and crisp,

but I feel like it might
be a little bit too cool.
