more people know about us.

You wonder, like,
what's the limit of that?

But I still wasn't
worried at this point.

- I had agreed to be filmed
in a Canadian hospital.

Why did I agree to do that?

[scoffs]
I don't know.

- Our story airs.

And then we got this email
that changed everything.

The email was from a family
member who recognized

the boys on TV in California.

She said, I'm their mom.

I don't know where they are.

I have-- they're my
missing children.

I'm sure these are my children.

I've seen what they look like.

These are my boys.

But this story attracted
a lot of attention.

It could be anybody calling.

We didn't know for sure that
they were the actual parents.

And I'm just like, OK, well,
we've gotta confront them.

We picked up Tami,
because Tami had so

much invested in these guys.

- Oh my god,
I can't believe this.

Poor Tom and Will.

Jesus Murphy,
why didn't they let us know?

- I was talking to the mom,
and I handed my phone to Tami,

and we were just
gonna film it all.

- Hi, it's Tami.

How are you doing?

Did you see pictures?

So you know it's them for sure?

That's him.

That's what he was telling me.

I had a conversation with--

[gasps]

This is your children.

They don't-- they do.
They do.

They have the
opposite-- oh my god.

She's totally describing it.

[inhales sharply]

It's her.

- Mom says, well,
here's how you'll know

for sure they're my boys--

Will has a scar in his abdomen.

- I'm gonna look for the scar.

I'm gonna look for the scar.

Tell him to take
the day off work.

Oh my god.

- It's totally them.

- Oh, it's freaking
totally them, you guys.

You can't--

because in this state--

- Tami was-- was quite upset,
and they just said, no,

you can't come in right now.

Once that was a
dead end we said,

OK, we have to go see Tom.

So we went driving to the
hostel where Tom was staying,

and I remember thinking,
could he be dangerous?

Like, we don't know anything
about this guy other

than the fact that he's just
spun this huge lie for months

and months and months.

Hey, how are you doing, Tom?

- Is this part
of the follow-up?

- Yeah.

- Exactly, the follow-up.

- So I remember thinking,
well, let's get him in the car.

- All the time I've come to
you and I've said, listen,

I think-- is this your mom?
Is this your dad?

Is this-- could this be you?
- Right.

- Could this be you?

And if I-- if you-- in your
head, if I ever got any of them

right, would you just take off?

Well, you wouldn't,
because your parents--

- Why would I?

- Right, exactly.

- Let's just go to the
parking lot of the RCMP,

be near there
when this happens.

A mother came to us,
said she has a son named Kyle

and another son named Roen
who were living in California,

and who left about a year ago.

Are you Kyle?

- I told you everything
that I said about myself.

I have nothing else
to add to that.

- Can you answer this question?

Does Will have a scar on
his abdomen from a spleen,

uh, with spleen removed?

- He has a scar there, yeah.

- [scoffs]

[groans]

Do you want to talk to her?
- Sure.

- This woman?

- Sure.

- OK.

[touch-tones beeping]

Listen, I have Tom
here, Kyle, and he

said he'd like to talk to you.

- Hello?

Hi.

Who is this?

Oh.

I'm OK.

for worrying about me.

Yeah, she wants to
talk to you now.

- I heard that.

[laughter]

- That's when we knew.

Like, that's when we
knew that was his mom.

We knew what was true.

- I remember just everything
kind of coming unloose.

Like, wait, this is
a normal mom and dad?

This is-- they
live in California?

Like, that was really hard
and really hard to take.

And, um, yeah, that was--

I started spinning
at that point.

This was all lies.

Like, the whole
thing was a big lie.

- Tom withdrew, for sure.

He was really quiet.

All the stuff we would
have talked about,

our whole relationship
as a journalist

and someone you're
spending time with,

was all based on a lie.

It just raised more questions.

But now that we knew they were
capable of a lie this big,

we just didn't know what else
they could be capable of.

I remember thinking, I'm
just gonna, like, you know,

not completely let
my guard down here.

- Can you just say,
my name is Tom Green?

- My name is Tom Green.

- And then could you
just say, my name--

well, we're just gonna try it.

But like, my name
isn't Tom Green.

My real name is Kyle Horn.

Put a little pause in between.

- My real name
is not Tom Green.

My name is Kyle Horn.

Is that right?

[laughs]

- That was like a little space
in between, but just similarly.

- My name is not Will Green.

it's Roen Horn.

My real name is Roen Horn.

See how many different
ways I can say it?

- My real name is Kyle Horn.

Sorry, I messed up that time.

There is, like, wanting
to merge those two worlds,

you know?

You want to live
back in society,

but you don't want
these people

who assume authority over--

- Will Green's just a
character,

just a survival act.

That's the weird
thing about acting.

Because you start to realize
it is acting a bit when you

say things in a candid way,
because I really am Roen

Horn, right?

I do believe I'm Roen Horn.

But it's just a name.

- There were various
feelings running

through the community when
the truth about the brothers

became known.

The skeptics, of course,
said, ah, we knew

something was up all along.

- A lot of people had
suspicions about if the story

was true or not.

And now a lot of people
are like, oh, well,

I guess it figures that
that had to happen that way.

- They came up here
and, uh, lied to us.

They can go right back.

- Were you surprised that
people believed the story?

- No.

If you, uh, kind of go
into details and stuff

and make it a little strange,
it's more believable to people.

I hope you get some
help down there.

I was totally betrayed, but
I felt only betrayed by Kyle.

Like, why would you do that?

There was no
emotion, just numb.

He was just, like,
numb to everything.

And he didn't seem
like it mattered.

It was upsetting,
because he was just like,

you're the one who
chose to help us.

We didn't ask you.

You came to us.

And that is true.

Kind of put mud in my face.

- Do you have any remorse for
what you've put them through?

♪ ♪

- No.

- Not for Tami?

- Um, [scoffs] no.

- Tami was a great person.

You know,
that was her character,

and she was out to help
people, and she did.

I mean, what
she did was not wrong.

What's wrong is the fact
that they lied to her.

More than anything
you're wondering, wow,

what's really going on here?

- This is more gear than the
TV station that interviewed us.

[laughs]

[exhales]

- Should we be
closer to each other?

- Yeah, as much as you guys--

- Can't get--
can't get too much closer.

- You can't?

Look at all this space.

- Well--
[laughs]

What am I supposed to do?

- Well, I don't know why
you can't get closer.

- Diana, do you want a little--

- I called the news station
and said, that's my kid on TV.

And it's not a comfortable
position to be in,

but you find that's
where you are.

That's them.

- Oh my god, there's Kyle.

- It's so good just to see him.

- We wanted to keep following
the story as far as we could,

so we talk to the parents
and meet the sister,

and we got a tour of
their house in California.

- Well, this is where we live.

This is where Kyle
and Roen grew up.

Um, this is our living room.

This is our computer.

- It was like
postcard suburbia,

as normal as normal could get.

- This was Kyle's room.

Kyle and Roen,
they shared a room.

Um, it looks a lot different
than when they were here.

- It seemed everybody-- this
was a pretty normal family.

- We went to school,
we went to church.

You know, we had a
really good upbringing.

We had, you know,
it was very "normal."

Um, so I don't understand
what exactly happened.

- Why did they run away?

You think they're running
away from something horrible.

[somber music]

Tom had an, uh--

Tom.
[laughs]

- Kyle.

- Kyle, thank you.

Kyle, I think, had some
mental health issues

that his mom told us about.

- Some of his ideas
became so extreme.

- Like what?

Can you tell us?

- I don't know.

- Dare we incriminate him?

[laughter]

Kyle's the sweetest kid ever,
but we saw some of his writing

that said he thought
it was a good idea

to blow up credit card
buildings and police cars.

[tense music]

So I told my mom, and she's
like, yeah, this is concerning,

and we should tell
the authorities.

And they came out
and talked to him,

and come out 10 minutes later
and say, we talked to your son,

and we decided
he's not a threat.

And he had no
intention of following

through on that or something,
and that was the end of that.

[keyboard clacking]

- As a teenager, Kyle
disappeared into his bedroom

and got lost in his computer.

- He spent too much of
his life being reclusive.

And so after he finished high
school, he chose not to work.

- He didn't believe
in working.

We felt that it
was best for him

to realize that people make
their way in this world

by working.

So basically,
we kicked him out.

And that was the
last we heard of him.

- I guess there's really
only one question to ask you,

and that's why?

- Well, I had to protect
myself and my brother.

[birds chirping]

- We grew up in Roseville,
and it's probably

one of the best places
in the world to actually live

live in terms of safety.

[eerie music]

My dad was a claims
adjuster, and my mom was

working in a movie theater.

We were very middle-class,
very comfortable.

- Roen was our
baby of the family.

He was always very
sweet and very funny.

With the other kids,
I remember having rules--

if you do this,
call someone a name,

this is what's gonna happen.

If you hit someone,
this is what's gonna happen.

But by the time
Roen rolled along,

I think I was just tired of all
these rules and consequences.

- My parents were
very lenient with me

and just allowed me
to do my own thing.

They were very much
more open-minded.

- On the Wild
Card Line, you're on the air.

Good morning.

- They had a more
intelligent perspective.

- The conspiratorialists

think that NASA is
hiding all of this.

Believe me, this
is scary material.

- We would listen to
Art Bell every night.

- It was a conspiracy radio
show that portrays and paints

a version of reality
where, like, there's

a lot more to fear from, like,
your government, for instance,

or people in high power.

Like, they're conniving
and being evil.

- Growing up, I heard all
sorts of weird conspiracies,

you know?

Things that, like, if they're
true, that'd be really crazy,

you know?

- Secret society.

- Not to trust the medical
profession, because the drugs

are harming you.

- Dangers of vaccines.

- The antibodies
in the body don't help

but makes it worse.

- Why do we put
fluoride in the water?

It costs a lot of
money to do that.

- There's a whole
out-there fringe group

who think the Earth is flat.

- I'm pretty much in that camp.

- The authorities,
they don't want people

to see what's really there.

[chimes tinkling]

- When I was nine years
old, on Thanksgiving Day,

I was riding a bike,
and I lost my balance.

And then before you
know it, I tipped over,

and the bicycle handlebar
went right into my gut.

I, like,
hobbled back to my house.

I had extreme pain.

So then I get to my house and
I just sprawl out on the floor.

- And we're trying
to do Thanksgiving,

and he's just laying
there and he's not feeling

better and not feeling better.

I call 911 and I'm saying, what
if he's got internal injuries,

and I don't even know it?

And they're like,
um, yeah, we're gonna

get an ambulance over here.

[siren wailing]

And so we go to the
hospital, and they're like,

we're gonna have to do
an emergency operation.

- And the nurses
are talking about,

OK, we're gonna
coat this tube we

have to put down your throat.

And you might be allergic
to these chemicals.

I'm thinking, I could die,
and maybe I'll never wake up.

♪ ♪

[somber music]

I wake up, and then the
doctors, they say, you know,

we tried to save your spleen.

We tried to sew it up, but we
realized we couldn't, and then

we had to take it out.

If I'd arrived at the
hospital just one hour later,

I would have internally
bled to death.

♪ ♪

- We were told that
without a spleen,

you're at heavy risk of
catching pneumonia and dying.

- You need to take vaccines,
and these different shots,

like,
for the rest of your life.

- We believe that
there's mercury in them,

and then the autism
rates are going way up.

- And I just opted out of that.

- That's how anti-vaccine
we've become.

- I was already so much
against mainstream systems

that I had already decided,
no,

I'm not gonna be taking shots.

There's no way.

When you have an organ
removed from you,

you feel like you're
not ever fully safe.

It just made me start thinking
a lot more about death

and how close I had come to it.

[scoffs]
And, um, I think that's when

I really started to just be
hyper-obsessed with health.

♪ ♪

And then we got the internet.

[dial-up modem beeping]

I did a lot of
internet research,

going to a lot of
forums touting, like,

fruitarianism and veganism.

And I started juicing
all these vegetables,

natural immunity boosters,
herbs.

- And then he stops eating,
like, nuts and seeds.

He's eating a lot of fruit.

- I was frustrated.

I thought he was too fanatical.

Like, what?

You can't eat my
homemade spaghetti

sauce because I added salt?

But there was no
talking him out of it.

- I started to lose the weight
maybe around, like, 13, 14.

And then by the time I was
16 I was, like, 114 pounds.

And then that's when
my mom was like, whoa.

- I brought it to the
doctor's attention.

Isn't our son a bit
on the thin side?

Because his elbows
and his knees

protruded too
much for his skin.

And they said, oh,
yeah, you're right.

And so we would have
to weigh him many times

and then report to the doctors
how his weight was doing.

But when I said,
time to get on the scale,

he says, just a minute, Mom.

And he would go to his room
and put on a bulky outfit

and hide ankle weights
under his clothes.

You know, I figured
out what was going on.

- I was reading on
the internet it's

part of the detoxification
process.

They're saying the
fat needs to be

stripped off your body because
that's where the toxins are.

But eventually, your body will
hold fat again and be healthy.

- The doctors,
they all decided he

had some kind of
eating disorder,

and he was mentally ill.

And they were trying to treat
him as though he were anorexic.

- Based on what I knew
at the time of anorexia,

it would have been hard for
me to say he was anorexic.

He was in control.

- It's not like I
was saying, I just--

I need to lose
weight, everyone.

I'm too fat.

I was like, no,
I just want to be healthy.

I have an immune
system compromise.

I need to do something
different than normal people.

And so fruitarianism was kind
of just my go-to, the best

knowledge I had at the time.

- We did our best
to try to get him

to eat more and take
him to psychologist

visits, psychiatrist visits.

The only part we drew
the line at following all

their suggestions
was when they said,

we want you to have
him institutionalized.

And I said,
but then he won't have

access to the healthy food.

And then he'll-- he'll
lose even more weight.

They said, that's OK,
we'll just let him get so

skinny that we could tube him.

And I'm like,
this does not sound

like a good solution for him.

And they said,
that's OK, we'll just call

the child protective service.

- [knocking]

- They show up at our
door with the police

and a warrant
to take him away.

And I'm like, but why?

We'll do what you say, why
are you doing this, you know?

And while we're
having this talk,

Roen's in the kitchen trying to
peel an orange for breakfast.

- I was standing there
by the fireplace,

and I had the perfect
view to see back

where Roen was in the kitchen.

And he was looking at me like,
what, are they here for me?

And I gave him a
nod like, yeah,

and he left out the back door.

[tense music]

- Something took over.

I was like,
we gotta get out of here.

we're in death zone.

This is battle zone,
military war zone.

Like, they're gonna kill me.

[sirens wailing]

That night, I knocked
on my brother's window.

[tapping]

- Roen was very serious
about not wanting

to be taken against his
will, put in a hospital,

put a tube down his throat,
and put this garbage that they

would have put into him.

You know, I sneak out at
1:00 or 2:00 in the morning,

bringing him food.

And my parents, they were
just looking for him.

- Roen!

- Hey, Roen!

- We want to make
sure you're OK!

- I was still afraid my
parents would turn me in

at that point,

because I didn't have enough
trust that my parents wouldn't.

At some point, you don't--

you even don't trust
your own parents.

- I had already been
telling my parents

that I was gonna
go to Canada, like,

before any of this happened.

So when I did decide, oh,
I'm kind of going to Canada,

it didn't seem all that
suspicious to people.

- He'd always
talked about how it

might be fun to go to Canada.

That's why we weren't
immediately suspicious.

[lighter clicking]

- Roen and I got a ride
just to Washington.

And from there, we
hitchhiked and hiked.

[fire crackling]

- When I got to the border,
I remember just being

really nervous as I'm going.

Like, how is this
even gonna work?

♪ ♪

[whistle tweets]

- I wasn't sure if
you'll be able to cross

that border without
them trying to question you

or ask for your ID.

- The whole thing could
have just stopped right

there, because it was obvious.

Like, anyone could have seen,
like, there's just two hiker

people, like, with
huge backpacks,

just literally walking
past all the cars.

♪ ♪

- But for whatever reason--

[whistle tweets]

--we literally just
walked right across,

and no one stopped us.

♪ ♪

- I don't remember
meeting really anyone

until we got up to Vernon.

[eerie music]

Naturally, that's when we
needed to come up

with a story,

why we were not able to
go back home, why we're--

we wouldn't ever go back home
and show you where we live.

So many of the details that
we gave were just the truth.

For instance, we used
our real birth years.

We used our real birth months.

- The story we created
was all about survival,

to be threatened with being
put into a facility

and force-fed,

it feels like someone's
threatening your life.

♪ ♪

When push comes down
to shove, what would

you do for your survival?

- I didn't think he would die.

I think it's just a matter
of respect for your freedom.

♪ ♪

But at the same time,
Roen didn't really seem

to have much long-term plans.

♪ ♪

We discussed, like,
um, well, what

does that look like for you?

Where is this going for you?

The people of Vernon give
us a certain amount of money

for food, too, every month.

But winter's coming.

How long is Roen
gonna want to do this?

What's-- what's really
gonna happen here?

- I'd have much rather
had a brother that

did what Kyle did
than a brother

that would have turned me in.

Kyle did the--
the best thing he

could have done there for me.

But some part of my psychology
wanted the whole thing

to end, because I
was thinking about,

like, what am I
missing in school?

How long is this gonna go on?

When am I gonna get to
see my parents again?

[airplane engine roaring]

- Obviously the parents wanted
to come and needed to come.

So we said,
we'll bring you to Vernon.

♪ ♪

- Did you talk
to your sons yet?

- Uh--
- Are you mad at, uh--

- No, I'm not--
- --you mad at them?

- I'm not mad at them at all.

- Americans and Canadians
are different when

it comes to television.

They just said yes right away.

I don't know that a
Canadian family would have

agreed to something
like that so quickly,

but they were like, sure.

- Hi, Kyle!

- Hi.

- How are you?

- Good.

- So good to see you.

Oh, you look the same.

[laughs]

- There was this kind of
weirdly awkward reunion

in a parking lot.

They were like, oh my god,
I'm so glad you're safe,

and what the hell
were you thinking?

I'm sure inside
they were seething.

- Why did you stop
calling us in December?

- Uh, just--

I don't know.

- So just a phone call
would have helped, you know?

- I remember
thinking they weren't

as surprised as you think they
might have been, you know?

It was kind of like they were
expecting their boys to have

done, you know, something.

[tense music]

- When Kyle went
to Canada, the plan

was he's supposed to
call me and let me

know how he's doing in Canada.

Not how "he and Roen
are doing," because I

didn't know about Roen.

♪ ♪

Meanwhile, I'm out looking
for him in construction sites.

We found a cantaloupe
rind or an avocado shell,

and we were like,
[gasps] he was here.

♪ ♪

But I do wonder if there
was a part of me that

didn't want them to be found.

Maybe if Kyle's taking
care of him in Canada,

maybe that's even
a good solution.

[distant siren wailing]

♪ ♪

- What do you got?

At what point do you
intervene?

- Oh, I can't--

- At what point do you
just basically say,

OK, you don't get
freedom anymore?

We're gonna take it away,
because we love you.

♪ ♪

- I met the parents.

I mean, his mom was really
nice, and his dad was,

you know, quiet and humble,
but was just crying.

And he was crying in
the hospital a lot.

- All I remember
when we entered

the hospital is seeing Roen
in his emaciated state,

and I was shocked.

I gushed at that
time, just seeing him.

Yeah, yeah.

- It was like, oh
my gosh, you're

so skinny, so
thin, so waiflike,

like someone out of
a concentration camp.

Oh my gosh.

And at the same time
relieving to get

to be back with your boys.

[gentle music]

- Everything is good right now.

Um, Roen is making progress.

[indistinct chatter]

- I think there needs
to be the acknowledgment

that the brothers
were experiencing

a mental health crisis.

Were they lying to manipulate,
or were they lying out of fear

because they didn't know
how to access the help

that they truly needed?

♪ ♪

- I first heard
about orthorexia

from the doctor in Canada,
and he explained what it was.

I'm like, oh, yeah, that
actually-- that actually

sounds like something he has.

- An orthorexic has
fear of unhealthy food.

- As long as you're
convinced that it's healthy

for your body, you can eat it.

I gained, like, 30 pounds
in the Canadian hospital.

I was doing well.

I was on a process
of, you know,

continually gaining weight.

- He was getting help
for his eating disorder.

And I remember being
really happy about that,

and feeling like
things were positive

and he was back on track.

- Put him, I think,
back on the right path

in a respectable way.

♪ ♪

- Kyle was trying hard to
convince Roen to eat more.

Kyle has been portrayed
villainous in this.

I've seen people's comments,
like, saying bad things

about Kyle for taking
Roen away to Canada

and letting him get
thin or something.

But he's just trying to
heroically rescue his brother.

♪

- Once the story hit
the international stage,

a warrant was issued for
arrest, and deportation

orders were issued,
and they disappeared

as quickly as they came.

[tense music]

- They expedited Kyle's
return to the United States

with his father.

And with Roen,
they had arranged

a flight direct to
Sacramento, so I transported

him to Kelowna Airport.

And the one thing that struck
me is, as he was walking up

the stairs into this private
air ambulance that had been

chartered just for him,
like, he never inasmuch as

even turned back
or gave a wave or said,

thank Tami for
what she did, or I

appreciate what the hospital
did for me, anything like that.

He just got on the
plane, never looked back.

For them at this point, what
happened in Vernon in 2003

is probably just a
footnote compared

to what they're into now.

I know that might seem

back in our care,

Roen's life became
unusual for many years.

- When I got back, I never
even graduated high school.

I don't feel like having a
high school diploma would

probably help me that much.

living in a warehouse.

Eventually they were
raising the rent to double,

and so Roen found
himself homeless.

back and be with Kyle.

Roen's not one of these people
who is homeless by choice.

- I feel like society
makes it hard.

It should just be
easier to, like,

have a place for yourself.

And I feel, just in a
sense, dysfunctional,

and so there's a lot of
ways I haven't fully made

myself a part of the society.

I feel like I'm
still in the forest.

- I can't see a quantum
shift in their thinking

since all this happened.

I don't think that they
left California as boys

and returned as men.

I think they left
California as boys

and basically returned as boys.

- In the story of
Neverland, Peter Pan,

he goes to the normal
world, and he starts to age.

And he literally--
doesn't he die?

He literally dies.

He chose to go to
normal society and die.

It doesn't get more
stupider than that.

[muttering indistinctly]

- I would never try to
say, well, why do you want

to live forever, you know?

Don't--
you shouldn't want that.

I would never do that.

- I'm looking for a place
that's a house with a shower.

That's a good start.

I feel like just my life's
been a little lonely.

And, um, just needs
more relationships.

It just, um-- [sniffles]

um, just thinking about how

good the future could be.

In the future,
if you're living forever,

then you eventually get
everything you ever wanted.

- So what do you want

- Maybe some
steamed vegetables.

What do you want?

- Roen is the person I
am closest to, because we

talk about very deep
things that interest him

and interest me.

And I don't have that kind of
relationship with anyone else

like I do with Roen.

- Me and Kyle,
our relationship was

so bonded on going through a
traumatic experience together.

- I had to take care of him
almost like a parent, right?

But I was never bothered by
that, by Roen looking up to me

or trusting me.

And I definitely won't allow
anything to happen to him.

♪ ♪

[waves lapping]

- What happened to Vernon
is a drop in the bucket

to what we as a society
wrestle with today

bombarded by social media
and conspiracy theories

and my version of the truth
and your version of the truth,

and exactly what is the truth?

Back then,
we stuck by the boys when

the story wasn't making sense.

Today would we do that?

♪ ♪

- I was angry.

I was upset.

I was embarrassed,
mortified, you know.

Because I rallied
all these people together,

you know,
to save these boys, and--

- Tami really did believe
the story and felt, you know,

hurt later.

From personal experience,
I'd say that that's

actually a helpful change.

It opens you up to
possibilities, and then you

realize, OK, I--

I can't believe any of
this stuff I was told,

and it completely changes you.

- OK, Tom, let's see
what it tastes like.

- I wish I could, like,
you know, be in Tami's life

in a non-acting way.

I wish I didn't
have to lie to her.

You know what I mean?

In another world,
I wouldn't have to lie to her.

- It's not my job
to tell you the truth.

[laughs]

- It was definitely his
job to tell the truth.

He was-- he was telling
his story, and it was a lie,

and it was making people
react in a certain way

and do things for him.

I understand they were
telling it for a reason,

but it's still wrong.

- Kyle took the
fall for everything

at the end, even my anger.

But there's so
much more to blame,

including
the U.S. medical system

that had Roen misdiagnosed.

They needed help,
and I helped them,

and I think we all want
to help people, right?

And some people go out of
their way more than others.

- Tami was the one who
proactively worked and worked

and worked
in making sure that he

got institutionalized before
he starved himself to death.

I'm so grateful to Tami.

Thank you, Tami, so much.

You are a hero.

You saved our son's life.

- What finally
makes a man, I think

it makes a man when he
knows and discovers truth,

and when he's got the common
sense to know right from wrong.

And I don't think these
two are there yet.

They may never be.

- The great thing
about story, doesn't

so much matter if it's true.

It matters how it
affects people,

and it matters how
it affects you.

Makes you think,
well, what's possible?

Oh my gosh, is this guy right?

Are they gonna force me to
eat hamburgers and all that?

And I'm a fruitarian
at the time.

And that was terrifying.

You know, just because it's
a story doesn't mean it has

to be an imaginary fiction.

- OK, get up and--

- We could make that reality.

Truth, it's secondary
to survival.

It still feels that way.
