Racing to catch up from his latest ever 18 -acre Megaco.

He's chasing a 3 ,000 -ounce season goal.

But almost halfway through the short season,

Tony has less than a quarter of his target.

Now he's determined to mine every piece of gold -rich ground he can find.

Last week, he

tested tailings left by the old timers at the bottom of the hill.

He ran them through his kiwi plant and

got four ounces from just 400 yards.

That means that's an ounce for every 100 yards.

That's not right. That's very difficult.

If you can get an ounce for every 100 yards, that's almost better than the

grounds we're digging up up on top of the hill right now.

I was just going to get you all ready to stand there and look pretty, but that's

Tony's bringing his 30 -year -old screen deck wash plant out of retirement.

The plant can run 200 yards an hour.

But it's currently sitting on the top of Paradise Hill.

Tony must transport the 50 -ton cargo down a steep mine road,

We've all been hitting it with everything we got.

Rick Ness started mining a full two weeks behind Parker and Tony, and he is

in the race of his life to get to his 1 ,000 -ounce gold.

We finally got our hopper feeder in, and I paid off Troy's royalties for the

year. That feels really good.

With all the gold that went up, it's just going to be really important to

putting some back in the sink.

After barely breaking even last season, Rick needs a big year or his mining

career is over.

Well, if we were in a competition to move the most dirt with no gold in it,

would have won much.

We killed that game, bud.

For the last four weeks, Rick has mined the teapot.

where the gold -rich pay dirt is near the surface.

But now new recruit Mark Doverspike is running out of cheap cut pay to feed

plant Rocky.

Yeah, we've got about a day's worth of cheap cut pay left, so we're going to

change things up, move around.

So Rick heads out to look for a new area to mine.

This is where we've mined the cheap cut up to.

You know, this ground has been paying really well, and it's kind of given me a

renewed interest to investigate and search.

I'd like to think after eight years I'm starting to be able to read the ground.

I just get a feeling there's more gold here.

The way this material is piled up in here, I think the best stuff that there

could be at this corner.

On Lower Duncan Creek, 20 ,000 years ago,

A glacier pushed up a mound of rock and dirt known as the moraine on the edge of

the cheap cut.

Rick believes this moraine has trapped gold washed down from the motherland.

If the glacier made some kind of a hard stop here, all that gold would have

stopped in this corner.

It could be the best stuff we've seen all year.

And with gold price the way it is, the profit margins are big.

I need to see at least 15 to 20 colors in this pan to make it worth extending

this cut.

There's not much overburden there. Like, we can get in there and strip, you

know, a week's worth of pay in, like, one day.

Rick gets the crew stripping the extension cut.

Gambling they'll get the pay dirt before the existing stockpile runs out.

It's no secret Rick spent a lot of time and money chasing after big nugget slabs

here on a hunt.

I hope this isn't his last year all over again. I don't need that.

I've got a really good feeling about the two -cut extension.

I know I made some mistakes last year, and I know the guys are skeptical, but

this year is different. I know things are going to pay off.

Already battling the late start to the season, Rick could just have lost a

truck as well.

Carl and the crew improvised to right the truck using an

excavator and webbing.

With the truck up and running the team gets back to digging down to pay dirt in

the new cut.

Three hours later, the extension is stripped and ready to run.

Hell yeah.

We're already down to pay it. I like that.

Feeling pretty good right now.

We're right where we need to be.

Rookie miner Fred Lewis has gambled his last $20 ,000 leasing a 36

-acre claim in Oregon's Elkhorn Mountains.

You know, last week was kind of tough. We had to deal with a lot of MSHA

compliances and CARA compliances, but we stepped it up,

got everything done.

We just got to put in the work and get on the gold.

So far, the team has only run their operation for a total of eight hours.

Now Fred and his crew of veteran buddies are racing to cash in on record high

gold prices.

Former Special Forces Master Sergeant Stefan Generaly digs pay dirt in the

cut with the 400 excavator.

My wife, she's never owned a house before.

Come out here, mine for gold, make for money, make one of my wife's dreams come

true.

Sergeant Kyle Pletsky then hauls the pay dirt to the plant in a 988 loader.

Pretty much dead broke, so this has to be a success or I'm going to end up

living out of my truck for real.

And Sergeant Stuart McKenzie feeds the pay dirt into the plant with the 225.

We're going to have to run that 400 nonstop from the swamp, march it back

and feed the colonel.

That's all we can do.

Fred's plan is to use the working excavator, the 400, to dig pay dirt at

swamp cut, which he'll stockpile at the wash plant.

But walking the 30 -year -old excavator from the cut to the plant comes with a

The Beats family is in the middle of moving a huge green deck wash plant down

Tony's new site.

The old time is tailing.

Cody's gone up and crowded the material, holding that hopper in.

So, we can haul it down and we'll get it in position.

That's the battle plan.

The hopper feeder made the plant too unstable to transport.

And after a day spent cutting it loose,

Tony is now ready to

lift it from the screen deck frame.

Now all that's left is to unload the 50 -ton beast.

And for that, Tony has an old trick up his sleeve.

I really need this extension on the cheap cut to pay off.

I had a bad season last year, so I got a lot of ground to make up this year.

If his hunch turns out to be wrong, Rick will be even further behind after the

late start.

Loader operator Mark had the growing stockpile of extension pay dirt to feed

into the wash plant.

So by the end of the week, we're going to be behind a week, right?

And thanks to Carl, he'll soon discover if his hunch about the extension cut

Yeah, I mean, the good news is the plant's running again.

And hopefully by the end of the week, there's gold in the box.

Because if there's not, it's going to start feeling an awful lot like last

all over again.

In Oregon, Fred Lewis is facing yet another day of downtime.

Really difficult trying to get proficient at a new job when there's no

actually do.

Been doing more hanging around waiting than we have actually doing mining.

That breaks, then we fix that, that breaks, we fix that, then that'll break

again.

Morale is at an all -time low right now.

We're all kind of bummed out.

The absolute worst thing about being here is that we're not mining gold right

now because all of us have sacrificed a lot.

And we'll stick it out for one another no matter what.

But I know Fred is going to come through for us.

Last couple of days have been really tough. We've had a lot of equipment

problems and a lot of downtime. That's been really tough on the guys. So I've

been in contact with Juan, and that equipment is on its way now.

That's what I'm talking about.

Fred has leased an excavator and a loader from Juan Ibarra and agreed to

only when he gets enough gold.

I don't like offering up future gold, but hey, if you're not going to be

to take a risk, it shouldn't be mine of gold.

Juan has sent specialist operator Alex Voigt to make sure it comes back in one
