After two disastrous seasons, King of
the Klondike Tony Beats is hoping to

a comeback.

Last year we didn't have a great season,
but this year with the gold price being

up, we have a trouble going already.

So we're going to see if we can make 3
,000 ounces on the hill this year.

Eight weeks into the season, Tony's
fixed his trommel and is running mega

pay dirt, which he hopes will deliver
his 3 ,000 -ounce season goal.

But he's not stopping there.

At this cool price, we're going to have
to open up new grounds quick. I mean, it

is now or never, right?

Hill. It's always nice to have more than
one shot open.

To search for the buried pay streak,
Tony brings in his 460 excavator.

To get to the pay, Tony will have to
literally move a mountain.

When he opened his first cut on Paradise
Hill 30 years ago, he piled the

worthless overburden on top of virgin
granite.

Since then, he's mined around the waste
site, piling 50 ,000 yards of

overburden, enough to fill 15 Olympic
swimming pools, on top of what could be

massive layer of gold -rich pay dirt.

I do remember...

Mining in front of it. I remember mining
all the way around it. I just don't

remember how far in we mined up to it.

I'll just have to dig around and figure
it out.

Grow prices up, fuel prices low. So
whenever a time that we could probably

this out, then today will be the day, I

of overburden that needs to come off.

Tony's being convinced that there's

He's racing to finish the pay so he can
move the plant.

Just feeding the plant.

I'm trying to finish up so we can get
into our next cut, get back to getting

that gold.

The wash plant move is part of Parker's
radical new plan to make up for lost

time by having his crew move the plant
faster and more often.

Yeah, so this week we're going to move
the plant.

Last week.

Mitch and Brennan struggle to move Big
Red.

Whoa, it's going over. What are you
doing in there, man?

They ended up costing Parker $200 ,000
in lost gold.

That was terrible.

Now the pressure's on Aaron to make sure

Sluicifer's move is more successful.

Shainer's gonna move this plant whenever
he's ready and he ain't waiting for

you. Yeah, but the timing should work
out all right.

When you run this, you're gonna have to
stand there and babysit it. But it's

just this spot so far, this wet hay is
disgusting though.

Every day you see like all four seasons.

We've been seeing a lot of rain which is
always a concern.

Wet hay, never good, never good. It
always causes problems.

Aaron joined Parker's crew in 2014 as a
rock truck driver.

loader operator.

Now, he's responsible for running
Parker's most productive wash plant

When I heard that the Yukon is named
Gold Mining and Essential Service, I was

real happy about that. I mean, every day
I just think about how fortunate I am

to have a job.

I put some wet material on the belt, and
I noticed that it was all spilling over

the sides there.

On Indian River, Parker Snable is a
month behind schedule, and his wash

Lucifer, is jammed with wet pay.

I tried to run back and shut this thing
down as quick as possible, but I just

couldn't do it fast enough.

Aaron Bow loaded the hopper with wet pay
dirt.

We split down the split rubber belt,
clog the rollers, and jam the

conveyor.

This is a lesson I've learned the hard
way before.

I guess I was just thinking about some
days off instead of focusing on what I

should have been focused on.

Aaron needs to finish losing.

so the plant can be moved.

The shutdown is costing valuable time
and over $5 ,000 an hour in lost gold.

JM, he's supposed to take over the plant
for the second half of the day here.

And this is how he gets started with his
training on the plant.

First lesson, what not to do.

Well, I kind of just relearned a lesson.

You don't put wet material on these
belts. You end up shoveling for half an

hour. It's just a can of worms you don't
want to open up.

Pretty happy to see our plant up and

Sometimes things go wrong on the mine.

Sometimes it's somebody's fault. This
time it was definitely mine.

So should we send Aaron through the wash
plant?

Die? I mean, the conveyors are great
until that happens. Until something

Parker can finish running paint, but
he's through.

we're going to get as much gold as

gold.

The late start and the short season mean
Rick needs to motivate his crew.

deeper ground, which is harder to mine.

the wash plants with gold -rich pay from

This is my first time mining on this
scale.

There is some pressure here. I have 20
seconds between loads, so it demands

full attention all day.

Rick's 700 excavator, which he's used to
dig out pay dirt, is down with a blown

hydraulic hose.

Mechanic Carl Rosk needs to fix it
before the stockpile of pay runs out, or

they'll have to shut down the plant.

I picked this hose up on the way up and
we're going to feed this through here

right now and hopefully have this thing
up and running so employees can put it

to work.

Two biggest expenses in a mining camp
are fuel and people.

Ruby's on the excavator to seal the edge
out. I'm pushing the overburden over.

A hundred yards away, on the other side
of the waste site, Monica's childhood

friend, Ruby Mahoney, is loading rock
trucks.

There's a lot of work that has to be
done here, so I really hope this is

going after.

level all in one. And the sluice runs
have to be perfectly level.

There's just no room to do nothing.

I'm tempted to pull it back this way and
then just carve this out again.

While pulling slucifer onto its new pad,
one of the pontoons dug in,

making the wash plant uneven.

Game wants to pull slucifer back down
the ramp, use the excavator to level and

firm up the pad, and then drag the wash
plant back into position.

hill a little bit here and then fix up

So it just feels great to get back in
the seat and to be able to actually put

money in the bank. For me, I really
don't care where I work as long as

The hose that supplies water to the wash

Without water, Rick's operation is shut

but we're probably a half an hour, 40

minutes behind schedule, which isn't
ideal, but it is what it is. We'll get

thing hopefully up and running.
