The only thing that I'd get people like to do in there sounds is to find out we'd use some of the samples.

And then we thought, okay, we've got the strength and we've got the basic arrangement.

We'd pop to all the vocals and we'd write any kind of prose bit.

And when came to the verse, I was still pleased about that.

It was something that was actually a bridge section that had repeatedly all the tracks.

My idea of it was because the original was such a kind of minimal, relentless 20 minutes piece

to turn this piece into a 3.5 minutes more single oriented track.

I tried to take Canon into the 21st century.

which I thought was the most futuristic.

I played that through some big work and events in the 70s.

It will always have its own voice and its own sound whereas lots of other bands would

go through the full conventions of how music worked in the period which was rehearsing

a rehearsal room, drums, bass, guitar solo, two verses chorus, etc.

You go and play a load of gigs, get depressed and a little white van driving around Europe

for a couple of years and then you go into a studio with an engineer and a producer,

it will tell you how to play and what to play to fit in with the conventions of the period

to keep the record company happy.
