She was this outgoing,
friendly person

with this electric smile.

When he reached
into the trash bin,

he saw a suitcase.

Her fingers are missing.
They've been cut off.

Her teeth had been bashed out.

This was going to be
something bigger

than our usual homicides.

He was very charming.
He knows how to pick up on women.

His DNA is found in our victim.

It looks like
he's running from us.

The Coast Guard is in pursuit.

There were no signs
of forced entry.

So, who came through that door?

Buena Park, California,
is in North Orange County,

approximately 30 minutes
from Los Angeles.

It's a diverse community
with 86,000 residents.

It's mostly suburban
with an entertainment corridor.

It's home to a couple
of large attractions:

Knott's Berry Farm,

and about 20 minutes
from Disneyland.

So, it's a very popular
tourist destination.

It's like any city;

it's got pockets
of high crime areas, uh...

but overall the city is pretty safe.

On that morning,

there was a person
that was looking for recyclables.

And he happens to go
to this apartment complex

towards the back where
there's a couple of trash bins.

He came across this dumpster.

When he opened it up,
he noticed...

that there was really nothing
in there except for a suitcase.

So, he reached down
and opened up the suitcase.

He found what
he believed was the body of a child.

That's how the call came in.

Sergeant Frank Nunes,
Sergio, and myself all arrived.

The first thing I want to do is
I want to see the scene.

So, I go over to the dumpster,

and I look inside,
and I see an unzipped roller bag.

But it's closed.

So, the coroner arrives,

and we remove
the suitcase from the trash bin.

I lifted up the lid
to look at the body...

...and immediately I realise,

"OK, this is not a small child,
this is a small adult."

And we did see a nude female
in the suitcase.

It was a gruesome scene.

She was folded up...

...in the suitcase.

And, immediately,
my heart sank when I saw her.

We had... couldn't identify her

by her face
because it was beaten so badly.

My partner and I looked
at each other,

and we were like, "So how are we
going to identify this female?"

Typically,
fingerprints are the way we go.

And I remember looking
inside the bag,

and I was just like,
"What's wrong with her fingernails?"

Cos all I saw was, like,
the skin and then white.

And as I looked a little bit closer,

I realised,
"Those aren't fingernails.

Her fingers are missing.
They've been cut off."

My thought process, as soon as I saw
that her fingers were missing, is,

"They're trying
to hide her identity."

Well, if we cannot identify her
through her fingerprints,

the next best thing is
her dental records.

I looked over at the coroner,
and he reached over to her head

and he pulled open her mouth,
and sure enough,

I mean, it was just teeth fragments.

Most of 'em had just
been bashed out.

By removing biometric markers,

this tells investigators this person
is a little bit sadistic.

Somebody who's prepared
to engage in gruesome,

but also pretty crude methods
of trying

to delay the identification
of the body.

Most people kill somebody,
and they panic, and they run.

To go the extra step to try
to keep us from identifying her,

that's a whole nother level.

That's a whole nother
thought process.

I was surprised.

In Buena Park, we do have homicides,

but they're generally gang related.

This was like cartel stuff.

This is something you'd read
about happening in Mexico,

not in the little town
of Buena Park.

Without those fingerprints,
without those dental records,

it makes it extremely difficult
to identify a victim.

And that was definitely
a concern for all of us.

I realised this was going to be

something bigger
than our usual homicides.

I've never had
an unsolved homicide,

and I was just like,

"Oh, my God, is this the victim
I'm going to fail?"

And it's something
that weighs heavy on you.

And we worked all day Saturday.
We worked all day Sunday.

We're running down
any and every lead we can.

For those two days,

they were very sleepless nights,
for sure.

So, the coroner calls us
and tells us

that the victim was killed
by manual strangulation.

It is a telltale sign.
I mean, cos it's a rage killing.

It's someone that knew the victim

because it's a very personal way
to kill someone.

It's not like,
"Oh, my God, accident.

I... I killed her."

They literally are choking them.

And then, after they go limp,

they have that rage
where they're still choking them.

When you have a female
who's been found strangled,

you look first
to their intimate partners,

whether current or former,

and if those people can be excluded
and aren't suspects,

you have to wonder
whether or not you're dealing

with a sexually motivated offender
who will likely then kill again.

We learned
from the coroner's office

that the victim had breast implants.

We know
that all medical procedures

that involve putting in prosthetics
and implants have serial numbers.

So, we coordinated
with the coroner's office

in trying to track down
the physician

who put in the implants.

By using the serial numbers
off the breast implants,

we finally learned that our victim
is 28-year-old Jasmine Fiore,

and that she lives in the
Fairfax District of Los Angeles.

Now, our priority is,
who killed her,

and how did she get
to that dumpster in that suitcase?

We started contacting
her family members and...

and friends to find out who she was,

who was she last seen with.

We learned that, from the friends,
that Jasmine worked as a model.

She did trade shows for Playboy.

And she did work Playboy events

like golf tournaments
and things like that.

Although she did
swimsuit modelling,

she wanted to be something more;
she wanted to grow

and be involved in media
and other parts of the industry.

She was this outgoing,
friendly person

with this electric smile

that people couldn't help
but be around her.

And everyone loved her; everyone
who worked with her loved her.

And learning all that about her
made it even more personal.

You know, I have a wife,
I have daughters.

And when you see someone

who gets killed young,
for no apparent reason,

and then is brutally dismembered,

you take it personal,
and you want that person who did it

held responsible
and accountable for it.

So, once we learned
that our victim was Jasmine Fiore,

we run her name
through our database,

and we discover that there was
a missing person's report filed

with the Los Angeles
Police Department.

And the person that filed that was
her husband, Ryan Jenkins.

Ryan told the sheriff's deputy

taking the missing persons report

that he last saw
Jasmine the day before.

That they'd just gone to San Diego
for a poker tournament.

And when they returned,

Jasmine dropped him off
at their apartment

and then left
to go get her nails done.

And this is about 8:30 at night
he tells him.

And he hasn't seen her since.

The LAPD call Ryan to follow up.

But Ryan is on his way
up north towards Canada.

And when they say we need you to
come in to ask you some questions,

Ryan replies, "I can't.

I have to deal
with a visa issue that I have."

We started thinking,

"Wait a minute, your wife's missing,

and your visa issues are
more important

than her safety and wellbeing
and knowing where she is?"

Jenkins missing was
a huge red flag to us.

One, he's the husband.
Two, he's the last one

to see her alive that we know of.

And three, he's not talking to us.

We need to know
who we're dealing with.

And so,
that means running criminal history.

Trying to find out
previous locations where he's lived.

We learned that Ryan Jenkins
comes from Canada.

His dad is literally a millionaire.

He's a, uh...
rich property developer.

Ryan Jenkins lived
a pretty privileged lifestyle,

went to private schools,
enjoyed the better things in life,

and eventually moved to Calgary.

He also had a very successful
real estate career.

He worked with his father,
who was also very successful

and lived a very lavish lifestyle.

He went to Vegas in 2009

where he met a casting director,

and he landed a part in
Megan Wants A Millionaire.

And that show never aired,
by the way.

But I did have them
send me the clips,

so I could pick up
on a few things about Ryan.

He was very charming, very dapper,

knew how to talk.

He knows how to pick up on women.

He knows what to say.

Ryan is portrayed as
this jet-setting millionaire -

worth about $2.5 million -

and is looking to parlay
his real estate career

into a blossoming
Hollywood career.

So, Ryan went pretty
far on the show,

but didn't make it
to the final round.

After being let go from the show,
he met Jasmine,

and the fireworks
started right away.

And within 48 hours,

they're in the Little White Chapel
in Las Vegas getting married.

They're both beautiful people...

...and they're both players.

And she fell for him.

But it's been 48 hours.
You don't know the person.

Yeah, she does.
She opens the door into her life.

And we learned,
by interviewing friends,

that 48 hours prior
to finding Jasmine's body,

that she and Ryan were
in Del Mar, California,

at the L'Auberge Hotel.

They were staying there
because Ryan was involved

in some celebrity poker tournament
at an adjacent hotel.

So, as soon as I find this out,

and I identify the hotel
they checked out,

I got a group
of investigators together,

and I sent them down there
to check for video surveillance.

It's really important
because it puts Ryan

and Jasmine together
before the homicide.

You can clearly see
both of them arrived

in Jasmine's white Mercedes.

And they're getting
the luggage out, and the...

and the bellhop's getting
the luggage

onto one of the luggage dollies.

And so, we see 'em checking in
at that point in time.

Ryan checked in,
but he didn't use his name.

But I guess if you're a celebrity,

it's not uncommon to use
an alias to check into a hotel.

I guess he thought
he was a celebrity, too.

At that point in time,
an employee leads both of them

to the room on the ground
floor of the hotel.

So, the next time we see them
on the surveillance footage,

it's two and a half hours later.

Well, they leave the hotel room.

They're both dressed very nicely.

This is the last time
we see Jasmine alive

at the L'Auberge Hotel.

Roughly 24 hours later,
she's found dead.

The detectives searched the room
where Jasmine and Ryan were staying.

The room had already been cleaned
by cleaning services,

and they didn't find anything
out of the ordinary.

So, the detectives went
to the hotel

where they actually had
the celebrity poker tournament.

And they actually recall...

Jenkins and Fiore being there.

They didn't seem to be fighting.
They seemed to be in a good mood.

Everything seemed to be going fine.

But, at some point in time
during this poker tournament,

Jasmine and Ryan got

into some type
of a small verbal argument.

Jasmine was very flirtatious

with one of the pit bosses,

and Ryan didn't like that.

And the management decided,
"OK, let's just get them out here."

So, they called them a limo,

and the limo took 'em
to some party place.

Everything apparently
went fine there,

and they got back to the hotel where
the tournament was being held at.

The valet parkers recall her
getting out of the limo,

getting into Jasmine's Mercedes.

Ryan was driving.
She got in the passenger's seat.

And then, they left there
about 2:30 in the morning.

So, with this bit of information,
we know that she was killed

sometime after leaving
the poker tournament.

However, there are no videos,

no footage of her ever coming back

to the hotel
where they were staying at.

Now we're wondering...

..."Did she ever come back?
Where did she die?

And what happened between this point

and when the body's discovered
in Buena Park?"

And so, we had to dig
a little deeper to find more.

So, there is a back door
to this room

because it's on the first floor,

which opens up into a patio section,

which, from there,
opens into the parking lot.

So, the detectives go out
into the back patio,

and they find a long black hair
and a blood droplet.

Analysis shows that the DNA comes
back to our victim, Jasmine Fiore.

This is the first piece
of tangible physical evidence

that links Jasmine and Ryan

to a potential crime scene.

Now we start asking ourselves,

"How does Jasmine get
back into this room?

And when did this occur?"

We knew they were there.

It was just a matter of
"How did they do it?"

There was no camera
that captured the back patio

that leads to the parking lot

where they were staying.

We know that Jasmine,

she had to have come
through the back patio

because she's not seen
in any surveillance cameras

entering the front door of the room.

So, at this point,
we need to talk to Ryan.

We know
he's the last person on video

that we saw with the victim.

We have witnesses
who put him there with the victim.

So, we need to get
his side of the story.

Is he the suspect or not?

We have to assume that he is.

So, at this point,
we get results back

from the Orange County
Coroner's Office.

And to say we were surprised
would be an understatement.

They found semen in Jasmine's body.

The shocking twist was...

it wasn't Ryan's semen.

So, we had to do a database search
and learned

that the semen belonged
to her ex-husband, Roland Hasker.

We are shocked.

This is a twist we weren't
expecting in the investigation.

We were focussed on Ryan,

but any good investigator knows
you have to keep an open mind.

We learned that Roland was
recently released from prison

and was on parole.

I am forced to look at this
as going, "Is he my suspect?"

Did she leave Jenkins
at some point in time

and go and hook up
with her ex-husband?

We know that your DNA

after having intercourse is going
to stay for about three days.

So, we knew, in that amount of time,
he had been with her.

So, this throws a wrench
into our working theory...

as we have it at this point.

Now, I have two possible suspects.

I have Ryan Jenkins,

who it looks like
is running from us.

But now, I have the ex-husband,

whose DNA is actually
inside of Jasmine.

So, now I need to send a team
back down to San Diego

to find Roland Hasker
and get a statement from him.

So, at our interview
of Jasmine's mother,

we learned that she
and Roland got married

at a very young age,

and that, once Roland was arrested
and sent to prison,

that ended their marriage,
and she filed for divorce.

Although they were divorced,
they kept in contact.

Jasmine and Roland exchanged letters
while he was in prison,

and it seemed to be very amicable.

When he was released from prison,

Jasmine and her mother travelled
to San Diego

to meet with him
on his first day being free.

This was just before
Ryan and Jasmine left

for the celebrity poker tournament.

And apparently she hooked up
with him during this visit.

So, suddenly,
Hasker is our new prime suspect.

It's truly possible that Jasmine
would've opened the door to Roland,

they would've had consensual sex,

and then, he killed her.

So, my detectives go out
and interview Roland Hasker.

Roland Hasker was informed
that she was murdered,

and he just professed
his love for her,

and that he was heartbroken,

and just beside himself
when he found out that...

that she had died.

And Roland Hasker actually has
a very solid alibi.

We learned that Roland,

who was on parole
for his previous offence,

is ordered to wear GPS monitoring,

and he is nowhere near the victim
at the time she was killed.

So, this quickly ruled out...

Roland as our primary suspect.

With Hasker ruled out,
we're back to trying to solve

the mystery of what happened
in that hotel room.

We learned in our investigation

that Jasmine was
on her cell phone texting someone

at the same time she was
with Ryan at the poker tournament.

And this was an interesting lead.

So, we write a search warrant
for Jasmine's phone records

and learn that she's on the phone
with a Marcus Ardelli.

We dig a little deeper
and find out

that Marcus is
a former lover of hers.

What we find out is...

that she's trying
to reconnect with him.

When reading Jasmine's
texts to Marcus,

she says that it's over with Ryan,

and that, if Marcus would arrange
for a private plane

to take her to Vegas
so they could be together again.

So, it begs the question...

did Marcus fly into San Diego...

...knock on her hotel room door?

She lets him in,
and then, he kills her,

and drags her out the patio?

At this point, we need to find him

and interview him to find out
where his whereabouts were.

So, we interview Ardelli,

and we learned
that he was dating Jasmine

before Jasmine married Ryan.

They still kept in contact.

He cared for her very much.

And when he was texting her
the night of the murder,

he believed that she
and Ryan were already divorced.

So, investigators needed to know

where was he when he received
the text from Jasmine?

We learned he was
in Las Vegas, Nevada, at his home

while he was texting Jasmine.

He's got a pretty solid alibi.

We're able to get
cell phone records to prove

that he was in Las Vegas, Nevada,
at the time of the texts

and could not be in San Diego at the
same time to commit the homicide.

Ardelli shares an interesting point.

The last text message he received
from Jasmine's phone

stated to "Suck it,"

which didn't sound like Jasmine.

It didn't go along with
the conversation they were having.

It was his belief
that Ryan sent that text.

It was obvious that Jasmine was
in touch with former lovers,

her ex-husband, Roland Hasker,

her ex-boyfriend, Marcus Ardelli.

Did Ryan find out?
Did he send that text?

That gives us motive.
He was jealous,

and maybe
that's why he killed his wife.

So, at this point,
we need to talk to Ryan.

He's avoided us to this point.

He's on the way to Canada.

He won't answer our calls.

All signs right now point to Ryan
being involved in Jasmine's death.

He's looking very suspicious and...
and very guilty at this point.

So, we decided
we needed to take a deeper dive

into the surveillance footage
from the hotel.

There's multiple cameras,
hours of footage,

and it requires a monumental effort

to review every second

because every second matters.

After we do this deeper review,
we find a new clue.

So, as we look
at surveillance footage,

in the early morning hours,
we see, uh...

Ryan running
into the room by himself.

He's alone,
and there's no sign of Jasmine.

About half an hour later,
about 5:00am,

Ryan reappears out of his room,

and this time, he is carrying
what appeared to be an ice bucket

and something else
that we couldn't make out.

But we also noticed
he's changed clothes.

We see him come out,
and he looks down the hallways,

and we see him place something
up on top of a wardrobe cabinet.

And then, he goes off.

Seconds later,
he comes back into camera view

with this bucket of ice,

and then,
he goes back into his room.

Why the bucket of ice?

Why is he putting this object
on top of the furniture?

What was that?
Was it the murder weapon?

Was it something that would lead
to where Jasmine was?

Most importantly, is it still there?

Cos if it is,
it could crack this case wide open.

Ryan Jenkins now is
our top suspect.

And it's now more important
than ever to find him

because we need to find evidence.

And now, we have
this intriguing, new clue

at the hotel
that we have to investigate.

And what did he put
on top of the armoire,

the etagere, whatever it is,
in the hallway?

They said, "Well, we went up there,

and it's the phone receiver
from the room."

And that was a little odd
as to why would he

put that phone receiver up on top
of this wardrobe to hide it?

So, we asked ourselves,
"Why the phone receiver?

Why is he getting ice
at 5:00 in the morning?"

Those questions were hard
to answer without Ryan,

but we started thinking,
"Did he hit her with the phone?

Did he take the phone away,
so she couldn't call for help?"

Why would anybody do that

unless you wanted to keep someone
inside that room from making a call?

We sent the phone receiver
to be forensically processed

for fingerprints and DNA.

Ryan's actually been arrested
for domestic violence before,

and was convicted,

and had to go
to sex addiction therapy.

We found out
he was arrested in Las Vegas,

and still had a case
pending against him

for assaulting Jasmine
at a casino there.

It's not uncommon in the case
of serial domestic abusers,

much like any other serial offender,

for there to be significant
escalation over time.

And they have to ask...

"Is it a bridge too far,
or would it be for Ryan

to take the next step
and escalate to murder?"

We learned that Ryan,
in fact, wasn't a millionaire.

He comes from a rich family.

His father is well off.

And so, he portrayed
the rich lifestyle,

but didn't have the means
to be a millionaire at all.

We believe that Jasmine,
over time, figured out

that Ryan wasn't a millionaire,

and that probably came out

during their turbulent relationship.

We were definitely convinced

that Ryan was jealous of Jasmine.

Her connection
with her former lovers,

the fact
that Marcus Ardelli is well off,

has the ability to jet set
and fly around the country.

Ryan couldn't compete.

And I think,
based on what we uncovered,

that he was extremely jealous,
and it led him to rage.

This wasn't the person
she thought she married, right?

That he was rich,

I'm sure promised her
so many things.

And then, when the reality set in,
she started reaching out to people

that she felt more comfortable with,

like Ardelli and Hasker.

When someone with underlying,

significant,
narcissistic issues feels

they're losing control,

making the leap to eliminating
what they think other people want,

or what they can't control

by way of murdering a partner is,
in their mind, a rational decision.

So, at 6:24,

we could see
on the surveillance video

that Ryan is running from the room

carrying a bunch of clothing
and toiletries in his arms.

And he's... leaves the room
and goes through the hallway,

and we're assuming
he takes it out to the vehicle.

We definitely see
that Ryan's panicked.

We started asking ourselves,

"Why is he holding his clothes
in a bear hug?

Why isn't he using a suitcase?"

So, one of our detectives notices

a key discrepancy
in Ryan's behaviour.

We noticed that, at no point,

did he exit the hotel
with a suitcase.

He does go
and check out of the hotel room,

but all the luggage
that he came in with

never leaves the room.

What am I thinking right now is
"Where's his suitcase," right?

So, as we're scouring video,

we go back to when Ryan
and Jasmine checked in.

We saw that they brought in
a grey suitcase.

Sergio and I both look
at each other, and we go,

"That's the bag she was found in."

They checked into the hotel
with that bag...

and it's plain as day
in the video footage.

It's... It was pretty distinctive.

It's only made in Canada.
It's only sold in Canada.

They don't have, like, many models.

I mean, it's plain, but it has a
marking on it. And we're just like,

"That's the suitcase
that she was found in.

We couldn't say
with one hundred percent

that Ryan was our killer,

but once we saw that suitcase,
we knew he was our guy.

Once we knew
that Ryan was our primary suspect,

we sent some detectives to his

and Jasmine's apartment
in Los Angeles.

And the main reason
you do a search warrant

at the victim's location,

and, in this case,
our primary suspect's location...

is you're looking for evidence.
"Could she have been killed here,

or was she cleaned up here?"
We don't know.

So, when we searched the apartment,

we pretty much found out
that Ryan moved out.

All his clothing was missing.

Both of their vehicles were missing.

There was no intent
of him coming back,

which, again, proves more
that he's our person.

We also found surveillance video
from their apartment complex.

And we found an interesting clue.

We see Ryan walking
to the parking structure.

This is contradictory to his
statement of being dropped off...

by Jasmine the day she went
to go get her nails done.

We got him in a lie.

So, the video also showed
Ryan going up to his apartment,

retrieving a black suitcase,

returning to his car...

...putting the suitcase in,
and driving off.

So, knowing the timeframe

when the video surveillance
was taken...

...we know that it was a day
after Jasmine was located.

At no point did he appear
panicked or concerned.

After this video
and everything that we collected,

every statement that Ryan made
in his missing person's report

was a flat out lie,

concreting our assertion
that he is our killer.

Ryan ultimately becomes
the textbook man on the run.

There's no real game plan,

much like the crime was
very haphazardly carried out.

Our police department was
surrounded by media trucks.

We were constantly
being interviewed.

Our detectives were being
followed by media personnel,

just trying to see
where we're going,

to see what was next.

It... It was insane, crazy.

Never before had we had,
like, media coverage like that.

They were talking
about it every night.

But now I'm in a manhunt,

so I don't have time
to worry about that.

Investigators also have
to factor in

during their manhunt for Ryan

that he's already killed once.

He's disorganised, He's desperate.

He actually represents a clear
and present threat to public safety.

Ryan Jenkins told
the LAPD detectives

he's headed to Canada.

We need to find him and get him
before he gets there.

Our concern was
if he got over the border,

Dad would send him to Honduras
where he owns property.

There's no extradition treaty
with Honduras.

At which time, Sergio and I had
to sit there and go,

"How far are we willing to go
to bring him back to justice

without getting thrown in jail
ourselves? Because we want him."

Once we knew he was on his way
to leave the country...

...I notified the US Border Patrol,

gave them the information,

and if he attempts
to cross into Canada,

to let me know and detain him,
so I can interview him.

So, our detectives learned
that Ryan had a boat

that he kept in Las Vegas, Nevada.

We travelled there to see
if the boat was still there,

and to our dismay,
the boat was gone.

And we surmised that he...
he has it now.

This really makes things
more difficult for us.

Ryan now has several ways
to get into Canada.

He could take a boat now and...

go into Canada via the waterways.

And we're the police department.

We... We're not the Navy, right?

And so, all these challenges
just make it more difficult

to get a hold of Ryan.

We have a massive
international manhunt for him,

and we are sending
everyone we have

to track him down
and bring him to justice.

We knew that Ryan's intent was

to cross into Canada illegally,

and that was a problem for us
because, once he gets into Canada,

it's going to be
much more difficult to bring him

to justice here and press charges.

And worse,
he could disappear for good.

We learned
from the Washington State Police

that Ryan's SUV and boat trailer

were located in Blaine, Washington.

What's interesting about this is

that Blaine is
a border town to Canada

and has waterway access to Canada.

The SUV and the trailer are found,

but Ryan is nowhere to be found,
and the boat is missing.

We get word the Coast Guard is

in pursuit of Ryan Jenkins' boat
in the Puget Sound.

They asked,
"What do you want them to do?"

I said, "Do they got a gun
on the boat? Shoot him."

I don't care.
He's a murder suspect at this point.

The US Coast Guard was chasing

who we believed to be Jenkins
and lost them.

It was one of
those head-scratching moments.

You know, we were that close again,

and he slipped through the cracks.

So, at this point,
it's been over a week,

and Ryan's nowhere to be found.

Did he head back to Calgary
to be with family?

We know that the Canadian
authorities received several tips,

but none of them panned out.

We were all frustrated.

We are always just one step behind,

and now he's in Canada.

We're pretty sure that he is.

And we're pretty powerless
at this point,

waiting for that right tip
to come in.

Canadian authorities are contacted
by a hotel manager

in Hope, British Columbia.

The hotel manager told authorities

that a male checked in
two days prior

and never checked out.

When he went to go
check in the room,

he found a male
hanging from a belt in the room.

The Canadian authorities verified

through DNA and fingerprints
that it was Ryan Jenkins.

Detectives ended up
searching Ryan's room,

and they found a laptop.

On the laptop,
there was a suicide note.

The general contents
of the suicide note were

apologetic in nature to his family.

Part of the letter, Ryan says,

"I know that people think
I'm a monster,

but that the real monster
is Jasmine."

And I don't know if this is
an admission or a confession,

but it's definitely
a statement from a narcissist.

He's obviously been watching
and listening

to the radio and watching TV

cos that's how people were
describing him, "The Monster."

So, did he outright and say,

"Yeah, I killed her. Gee,
I'm sorry about what I did." No.

He didn't admit to it,
but he didn't deny it either.

Even to the end, he didn't take
responsibility for what he did.

We see this time and again
with narcissistic offenders.

They can't do prison time.

They will not be
publicly embarrassed,

and suicide really is
the most logical way out.

At this point,
we're not done investigating.

We still haven't found
Jasmine's car.

The case doesn't feel
like it's closed.

There's still a lot of questions
that need to be answered.

We put out an all-points bulletin
for Jasmine's vehicle.

And this comes maybe
a week or longer

after Ryan Jenkins is
found dead in Canada.

So, we get the next big
break in the case.

Jasmine's white Mercedes
is located

in the parking lot
of a West Hollywood strip mall

about a mile from where they lived.

So, we find the vehicle.

We go out there,
we process the vehicle.

They're opening up the doors,
and, immediately, I realised,

"The car was the crime scene."

There's soaked
into the seats.

There's blood on the headliner.

There's blood on... on the windows.

There's blood on the floor.

There was evidence
of hair pulling.

It was where we believe
the violence started.

Ryan and Jasmine check in
to the hotel.

They go to the poker tournament.

At some point,

Ryan discovers that Jasmine
is texting her ex-boyfriend,

Marcus Ardelli.

And not only is she texting him,

she's asking him to fly her
out of the area back to Las Vegas.

And that's likely
where the arguing started.

Ryan loses it
while in Jasmine's car.

He starts pulling her hair...

...punching her in the face.

He's just
so aggressively violent toward her.

She obviously got brutally
beaten inside that vehicle.

The attack was so violent.
Her face was swollen.

The bruising, the blood on her face.

You could tell
this wasn't just an accidental,

"I got angry, and I slapped you."

There was rage.

So, when they get to the hotel,

Ryan is seen running
through the lobby into the hallway.

Our belief is
that she was in such a state

that she couldn't come in...

because of the level of injury
she sustained.

He wanted to keep that a secret.

It's so hard to say
what she was going through.

Was she even conscious?
Did he carry her

and put her on the back patio
and then let her in?

Or was she standing there,
scared, and thinking,

"OK, this is it.
We'll get through this"? Who knows?

But one thing's for certain,
if she were alive at that point,

she had to be just scared to death.

Jasmine would've escaped
at that point in time

if she was capable of it.

But she was beaten bad.

Bad enough to where she couldn't
get up and walk away.

Based on the blood evidence
that we found on the patio,

we know that he goes in,
opens the door,

and then, brings her in through
the back patio into the room.

So, in the end, it wasn't Jasmine

who opened the... the back door.

It was Ryan
who opened the back door.

At this point, we see Ryan
putting that phone receiver...

in the hallway,
and then, getting some ice.

That tells us
that Jasmine's probably still alive.

He took the phone away,
so she couldn't call for help.

Ice, maybe to help her
with her wounds and her injuries.

Maybe he was trying to get her
not to press charges

and keep the relationship going.

What was going through her mind?
One, she couldn't get away.

Two, I don't think she thought

that he would literally
strangle her to death.

Probably she was able
to indicate to him,

"You're gonna go to prison."
Or "You're gonna go to jail."

Something like that.

"And I'm calling the police,
and you can't hold me forever."

Ryan knows what happens

when you get arrested
for domestic violence.

It happened to him in Las Vegas,

And, this time,
the injuries were significant.

Ryan did not want to go to prison,

and I'm sure he tried
to convince her not to talk.

Something escalated in the room,

whether she was going
to report it to the police

and that he snapped,
put his hands around her throat,

and strangled her to death.

There was
some set of circumstances

that ignited something that...

was evil within Ryan.

You never know
what a human is capable of

when they're desperate,
and, definitely, he got desperate.

In the surveillance video,
we see Ryan running out of the hotel

carrying all his clothing
and toiletries in his hands.

This led us to believe

that he placed Jasmine
in the suitcase

and then carried her out to the car
through the back patio.

We will really never know

where he mutilated Jasmine's body.

It could have been
in the hotel bathroom.

It could have been in the car.

It could have been anywhere else.

Since we never found
her fingers or teeth,

or any other evidence,
we'll never know.

The data from Ryan's
cell phone shows that he drove

all the way out to Riverside County

and then back into other spots.

We believe that he was trying
to find a location

to dump Jasmine's body.

We never found a connection
to Buena Park with Ryan.

Our belief is
that he got off the freeway,

was panicking that he had
a dead body in the car

and found the most quickest,
easiest place to dump the body.

Then, he returns
to his apartment in Los Angeles

and makes a fraudulent
missing person's report,

knowing that he would
be fleeing to Canada.

You know,
I would like to have gotten

a hold of Jenkins
and prosecuted him.

But Ryan Jenkins had
different plans,

and I can't control those plans.

Now, one of the questions
I was going to ask him,

"If you loved her,
why did you do this to her?

And then, on top of that,
you're going to throw her away...

...like a piece of garbage
in a trash bin.

Who does that
to someone you... you love?"

And that's the question
that I wanted to ask him.

And we'll never know.
We'll never know.

Was justice truly served?

We never got to interview him.
He deserved to go to prison.

I think Jasmine's
family deserved that.

And he took that
away from them, too.
