But, Mr. Chen...

You do know a cover-up is illegal, right?

Tell me when you knew he had committed a crime

and then tell me how you produced the third incident

to throw off our investigation and help acquit him.

What kind of angle is Xiao Bai taking?

What do you know? This is called psychological warfare.

Just wait. The show is just getting started.

Officer Han, the chief wants to see you.

Okay, got it.

Hold on.

After 10 minutes, go in and tell Bai Jin Xi

Zeng Fang Ping was successfully resuscitated.

Okay.

So you're saying you weren't aware of the first two cases

and Zeng Fang Ping only told you because he was drunk?

You urged him to turn himself in, but he refused

and he even told you the police were starting to suspect him

and asked you to help him create an alibi.

Am I correct?

That's absolutely correct, Officer.

He even told me his MO.

Otherwise, how else would I have known what to do?

Of course.

Otherwise, how could you have created the third case using the same methods?

Could you just also tell me

how he created the props at the first crime scene?

And how did the victims' photographs mysteriously end up

at the storage room you're in charge of at Fiesta

that is used to store cleaning products?

I--

I hope you can think carefully before you speak.

In fact, I've pretty much had enough of your act.

You don't really think we arrested you without having any evidence?

You underestimate us civil servants.

Or could it be you are just that naive?

[Episode 6]

Officer.

You're all intelligent people.

You must have found evidence linking Ping to this case.

Ping threatened me to commit a crime for him

and create an alibi for him so he would seem innocent.

Yes, I made those props

but they are all magician props I used in the past.

After I couldn't perform on stage, I gave them all to Ping.

Who could have known he'd use them for this purpose?

When I found out, it was already too late.

And the storage room you mentioned.

I'm not the only one who has access to the key to the storage room.

You've investigated.

You know better than I do.

You mean the evidence directly linking Zeng Fang Ping to this case?

I'm very sorry, but we don't have any at the moment.

If you know anything, you can tell me.

Officer, are you joking?

I am just a regular civilian.

How would I know these things?

Investigating, gathering evidence, DNA, and so forth.

Are we in a television drama?

I'm going in.

Boss.

The hospital sent news.

Zeng Fang Ping has been resuscitated and is no longer in critical danger.

He's awake now.

W... What did you say?

Ping was resuscitated?

He didn't die?

That's wonderful! That's practically a miracle!

Why would it be a miracle?

Medical science is so advanced now.

It's also very easy to transfer blood supplies within the city.

Besides, your shot didn't hit him in the brain or heart.

It's quite normal that he was saved.

Mr. Chen, how come I get the feeling you are loath to learn

that Zeng Fang Ping isn't dead?

What are you implying, Officer?

You can't make false accusations against me.

All right, since he's not dead, I'll just question him instead.

- Let's go, Xiao Zhuan. - Okay.

Wait.

You go first.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Officer, please have a seat.

You must investigate thoroughly.

These crimes were indeed committed by Ping alone.

That's right.

These crimes were committed solely by Zeng Fang Ping.

The victims all confessed they experienced pleasure.

We still do not have a reason to convict him.

We cannot determine how he committed the crimes.

Hypnosis can be separated into many different types

and there are also different levels.

Zeng Fang Ping is a regular drinker.

He isn't focused enough

so he doesn't have the benefit of time

to apply the power of suggestion on victims over a lengthy period of time.

The best way to hypnotize someone quickly is with the help of drugs.

Psilocybin.

We find Zeng Fang Ping to have an irritable temper and flawed character.

He has a perverted delusion of possessiveness towards females.

After he took your place as a magician, his sudden success went to his head

worsening the severity of his pathological condition

until he began committing crimes.

Zeng Fang Ping is my fellow apprentice.

He once looked up to me.

Yet, he now acts so arrogant.

He has no regard for me.

He takes me for a buddy who always cleans up his messes.

Drinking to excess is his vice.

When he drinks too much, he blows up at me.

He always complains and asks why there aren't any women who truly favor him.

Ping.

You have surpassed me in the Raining Cards magic act.

You perform it better than I do.

It is your specialty.

Perform it for me.

Will you?

It will turn into whatever card you want.

Do you know why the men in the troupe

all envy you and speak ill of you?

It's because when you perform on stage

all the women in the audience

go crazy for you.

They are infatuated with you, yet, are afraid to come near you.

I've observed the way they look at you.

They all want...

What do they want?

To eat you up.

Ping, give them their release.

This is your destiny.

He followed that woman for a long time.

Ultimately, he drugged her before carrying her off.

It's because he needed more time to set up the scene and create the dream.

Is that correct?

No.

Then what was the reason?

The site had been prepared ahead of time.

The dream must be perfect.

From the moment she was taken away, the beautiful dream had already begun.

Zeng Fang Ping applied her makeup and put her in a beautiful dress

dressing her up like a princess.

Women are beautiful like flowers.

Only a perfect dream can reveal her most beautiful likeness in her life.

Unfortunately, Zeng Fang Ping's methods weren't brilliant enough.

You could even say they were stupid.

He chose you to be his scapegoat.

That is especially regretful.

You failed to create the third dream.

The victim didn't feel any pleasure. She only experienced plain deceit.

How can I be to blame?

If not because he didn't go home according to plan, causing this failure

- I wouldn't have been revealed! - Revealed?

What you're referring to is that

Zeng Fang Ping didn't become your scapegoat and instead had an alibi.

Am I correct, Mr. Chen Li Jiang?

You're not...

I'm not what? Hypnotized by you?

You told a very good story.

Let women be revealed in perfection?

Actually, you did all this for your own selfish desires.

Only by immersing women in dreams

would they obediently allow you to violate them.

In reality, no woman would like you or want to get close to you.

No.

I have a wife. My wife loves me a lot!

Love you? Then why did she leave you?

You were abandoned like a piece of garbage.

- Wait, no. You are a piece of garbage. - Nonsense!

I gave them happiness.

I gave those women happiness! I'm the one who gave them happiness!

Happiness? You only gave them nightmares.

On the contrary, Zeng Fang Ping is a true magician.

On the stage, he can give people true happiness.

No.

You're wrong.

Zeng Fang Ping is only my lackey.

He isn't worthy of being called a magician.

I did all this.

I have been secretly hypnotizing Zeng Fang Ping

so he subconsciously feels dissatisfaction

causing him to lose control of his emotions

and cause disputes with others.

I also selected those women

but I did not give them nightmares. They were beautiful dreams.

I gave them beautiful dreams.

I am the magician who gives others true happiness!

Yes, that's it.

High five!

I told you Boss could do it.

We finally got him.

Honey.

What are you drinking now? How could you drink coffee?

Why can't I?

Pregnant women are the bosses.

Who said that?

I did.

Our son is the boss now.

If you don't believe me, ask him. See if he'll allow you to drink coffee.

He doesn't.

Silly.

Honey.

When our child is born, I'll work hard to earn money.

I'll teach him magic.

I'll take the two of you traveling around the world.

You only know how to play with these useless things!

You don't even earn money.

It's a good thing that our child wasn't born!

If he were....

what would we eat?

With you, we'd have nothing to eat!

Idiot! Useless!

Amazing!

- Is that real? - Impressive!

Honey, don't leave.

I can't lose you, Honey!

Even if you were met with misfortune and lost your child

it can't become a reason for you to commit crime.

As long as one has a belief, anything can be redeemed.

Or one can choose to start anew.

Why do you think you only had one path left to take?

[Ultrasound report]

I don't have any more time.

Three months ago, I found out I have stomach cancer.

Aren't people all like this?

Making up for past regrets in the present.

I hypnotized those women to create beautiful dreams for them.

Is it not my last dream as well?

We can each take from it what we need.

Why not?

I understand now.

Psilocybin has the use of alleviating distress in cancer patients.

This is how you were able to obtain it.

If...

If my child had been born

he would probably have been around the same age as that child named Dou Dou.

So you shot Zeng Fang Ping

to eliminate all witnesses

and also because you wanted to save that child.

Chen Li Jiang.

As a magician, why would you know how to use hypnosis?

Can you tell me?

I know how to use hypnosis.

Is that strange?

The internet is so developed now. There are many books on the topic.

I am self-taught.

At this point, you can only save yourself by telling the truth.

Save?

Yes.

Regardless of how many years I will be sentenced...

based on the current state of my illness, I won't be getting out alive.

You will know if I'm telling the truth

if you check my computer's browser history.

Hello? I've done what you told me to.

Very good.

When can I find someone to experiment on?

Experiment? You only get one chance.

You know better than I do what failure means.

Remember that the success of hypnosis relies on many factors.

Your control of your mental strength and control of the target are crucial.

You must know the target well enough

and get a complete glimpse into the target's inner self.

- Let's shop and walk around. - Are you going to buy clothes for me?

What are you doing?

Sorry, Miss. Let me clean that for you.

Are you blind? Do you not watch where you're going?

I already apologized. What more do you want?

What use is apologizing? Why else would police be needed?

- Miss, calm down. - How is it any of your business?

She must be crazy.

- Who does she think she is? - Let's go.

Who are you talking about?

How can you be like that?

Desires, secrets.

You must find them in the inner recesses of her heart.

Only by diving deep into the darkness and understanding what she needs

will you be able to control the hypnosis.

Hello? I failed. I failed!

I was discovered.

It wasn't my fault!

It was sudden... Someone suddenly appeared!

I... I don't know why he would be there. He shouldn't have been!

I had planned everything beforehand as you told me.

As you told me, I--

Hello?

Think carefully about what I taught you.

I actually haven't taught you anything...

because you didn't need me to.

Boss.

These are going to be handed over to the Procuratorate.

What do we do with this letter?

Chen Li Jiang said he wrote it for fun after he read the Bible.

We currently don't have evidence to prove the existence of K.

- Put it in the archives for now. - Okay.

How were you so clever earlier?

God Han told me to go in.

Where is he?

I think he was called away by the chief.

Oh, right. Chief told me to tell you to write the report seriously.

He said your report will be used in a forum at the province.

You'll have to do a good job.

Maybe you might make a name for yourself at the province.

Boss, if you rise up in the ranks, you'd better not forget about me.

What goes on in your head?

All right, go deliver the files. Go.

Write the report.

Writing reports...

Han Chen, it's all thanks to you that the case was solved so quickly.

Can't you stay a few more days?

I hope Xiao Bai can learn more from you.

She doesn't need me to teach her.

She and Xiao Zhuan are far from your level.

Every time a case is closed

writing reports becomes my biggest concern.

I heard Xiao Zhuan say you told him to go into the interrogation room.

Yes. Your interrogation tricks are pretty good.

You're not bad either.

You say you don't know criminal psychology.

Don't you know it quite well?

Chen Li Jiang admitted to everything.

He said he taught himself hypnosis from online sources.

The IT department found resources and related browser history in his computer.

This case can be considered closed.

But I still feel like something seems off.

It's not that simple.

I saw the interrogation recording.

You talked to him quite a lot.

You mean the last part?

What are you implying?

Are you saying I wasn't deep enough or mindful enough?

I just never imagined

you could spin quite a story.

Han Chen, who gives praise like that?

Officer Bai, these are files for you.

Thank you.

Officer Bai, here's the record of testimony you wanted.

Thank you.

Officer Bai, here are the files on the victims' examinations.

I'm leaving.

Bai Jin Xi, goodbye.

Boss.

Where's God Han?

Isn't he here?

No. Did he leave?

Sorry, the number you dialed cannot be reached at the moment.

Please try again later.

That guy...

Why didn't he say anything before leaving?

Boss, stop looking at this.

Let's talk about serious business.

Should we mail some things over to God Han?

Mail what?

Local specialties.

In the few days God Han was here, he helped us solve such a huge case.

He's gone and we didn't even throw a decent farewell party for him.

That's not right.

So a few of the guys and I were discussing just now

that we'd send some nice food and drinks to him.

I even have an address. Look.

Bai Jin Xi, what are Jiangcheng's local specialties?

Local specialties?

Braised duck, chili paste, dried tofu.

The taste of juicy peaches at this time of season is also very nice.

Help me buy some, then.

No, it's all right.

You can pay me after I've bought them.

- Xiao Zhuan. - I just got it.

Are you unsatisfied being a criminal investigator?

- What's this for? - You should be assigned elsewhere.

- You like to help others so much. - Yes, yes.

Solving cases is our duty.

Helping us is his obligation!

He left without even saying a word!

He clearly doesn't think much of us!

You even want to send a package to him?

Besides, what local specialties?

Would a rich boy like him care for these things?

It seems you have too much free time! Since you're so free...

Go! So free, are you?

Make 10 copies of everything!

- You're really not sending anything? - No!

What are you all laughing at?

It's just buying a little something. What's there to be afraid of?

Yes, although I said I wouldn't buy anything

there's no helping it.

Who told me to be gentle and kind

like a woman whose heart is as vast as the ocean?

Ever since ancient times, beautiful women have had hearts that were rather soft.

What is the thief wearing? A gray hoodie?

Hey, you! I'm talking about you!

Stop right there!

So arrogant, are you?

I can't stand people like you!

You're stealing people's things?

That hurts!

Thank you.

- No problem. - Go!

This is our duty as police officers.

This lady sure is impressive.

- So amazing. - Look here!

Look here!

Han Chen!

Wait for me.

I guessed you would be back around now

so I checked the train schedule online.

I came over just to pick you up.

Don't do such unnecessary things anymore.

Han Chen, wait for me!

I was afraid you wouldn't have a ride

so I went to your work and drove your car over.

Who told you to move my car?

Sit in the back.

So, did you find her this time?

It seems you didn't have any results.

Is it any of your concern?

Han Chen, you...

Can we be on the same page?

She doesn't exist.

Okay, you don't have to believe me

but what about your friends?

Your parents? Do you not believe them either?

Are we all working together to deceive you?

Shut up!

I have to say it even if you don't want to hear it.

She doesn't exist!

She is just a figment of your imagination from your dreams

while you have been unconscious in the past year.

These are the doctor's words, verbatim. You must face reality.

Han Chen, if you keep this up

you will only tire yourself out

and make your parents and those around you who care about you

become mentally and physically exhausted.

Are you done?

Who I search for is my own business.

No matter how much my parents like you and think of you as a daughter-in-law

you will never become my wife.

Do you understand?

Han Chen.

I like you.

That's why I'm willing to be by your side.

I don't care about being the Han family's daughter-in-law.

I will keep liking you

and keep staying by your side.

But I want you to know this.

All these years...

the one who stayed by your side wasn't someone else.

It was me.

This is your stop.

As expected from Officer Bai.

That's Officer Bai.

Well done! Dang.

Amazing.

That's my Boss, isn't it?

Xiao Hei, have you guys seen it yet?

I'm watching right now!

Look at that move.

So cool! Did you see that?

I'd expect nothing less from Boss.

Good morning.

- Officer Bai. - Morning.

What?

Why are you guys staring at me? Is there something on my face?

That's not it.

Boss, you're so awesome!

You've become an internet sensation, you know?

What?

Xiao Qi!

"Beauty apprehends strong man in one move."

Xiao Bai, you're popular now.

- Yes. - That's right.

This lady sure is impressive.

Look here!

- Right? - So cool!

Prettier than in person, right?

That's because I look good in person and am rather photogenic.

All right, enough. Tell us what you were doing at the local specialties store.

- What are those on the floor? - What?

Do you all have a lot of free time?

- Disperse! - Break it up!

You're the nosiest. Annoying.

Some people say no

but their body language is quite honest.

What?

I'm just stating the facts.

Narcissistic.

[Lanxi Province's Lan City Public Security Bureau]

Chief, were you looking for me?

Yes, have a seat.

So it's like this.

In the past two years

major cases have been occurring frequently in Lanxi Province.

Countless innocent bystanders have been hurt.

In order to prevent more of these cases from happening

I hope to recruit elite officers from various cities in Lanxi Province

and invite them to Lan City for special training.

Then, we will select the best of the best

to form a specialized investigative unit focused mainly on difficult cases.

I have reported this to the superiors already.

This was approved recently.

However, this specialized unit needs a highly competent person in charge.

I plan on putting you in charge.

Me?

What is it? Not confident in yourself?

Of course that's not it.

As police, we make it our responsibility to eliminate evil and protect the people.

I just feel most honored that you are giving me this task.

I knew you'd be the right person for this.

Right, there is one more thing.

What is it? Do tell.

Ever since Han Chen came to Lan City, he's been solving case after case.

So, I'm thinking of having him join the specialized unit too.

What do you think?

Han Chen is quite good. He's very competent.

However, he's very arrogant and sometimes doesn't work well in teams.

- I'm worried-- - I know what you're worried about.

I'm thinking the same thing.

How about this? Tell him to come here tomorrow.

I'll speak to him about it in person.

With you seeing to this in person, I can rest assured.

There's more.

Han Chen aided Jiangcheng law enforcement in solving a tricky case.

The Jiangcheng officers in charge of the case, Bai Jin Xi and Zhou Xiao Zhuan

performed exceptionally well.

Jiangcheng may be a small place

but as long as they are talented, we should not overlook them. Right?

So, I hope the two of them can join in this training as well.

I will also be able to gauge their true abilities.

Okay, I will contact the city stations around the province

and ask them to recommend officers.

I will then pick from the pool.

I guarantee the ones participating in this training

will be the police force's elite.

Rest assured, Chief.

Good, I'm leaving it to you.

She doesn't exist!

She is just a figment of your imagination from your dreams

while you have been unconscious in the past year.

Does this person really exist only in my imagination?

But the bus ticket is clearly so real.

"I keep to my promises."

That sounds a bit sarcastic.

"500 yuan total. Give it here."

That's not good either. It makes me sound petty.

Jin Xi.

How come you're here, Xu?

Someone said she'd treat me to a feast after the case was closed.

I did say that.

I promise I will honor it

but can it be next month?

As you know, it's already the 28th.

I sometimes run out of money at the end of the month too.

Let's go. I'll spot you.

You have to pay me back when you get paid.

You'd do that?

For you, there are no limits.

[Real Life CS Tournament]

[Act according to plan. Don't make any changes on your own.]
