The Soviet Union has
warned the United States

that an attack on Cuba or on Soviet ships
carrying supplies to the island would mean war.

In a statement from Moscow,

the Russian Foreign Minister Mr Gromyko said
any such attack made by the United States

would plunge the world into the
disaster of a universal world war

with the use of thermonuclear weapons.
