particularly because the price

of gold's really good,
and nobody has a clue how long

it's going to stay that way.

Mining mogul Parker Schnabel
is on a tear.

Ten weeks into the season,
he's already stacked

$15 million in gold.

Now, he's shifting
into overdrive,

eager to take advantage
of the summer weather.

[Parker]
So we just have to make hay
while the sun shines

and run four plants.

Mitch and Brennan, now they're
running on the Indian River.

That's the next big pit
for Roxanne.

Of course, we still have
the two plants at Dominion

plugging away.

Tyson's doing really well
this year.

He's doing a very good job
of handling things at Dominion.

But we just have to
kick it into high gear.

[Tyson]
This year is definitely
the most I've ever taken on

in my career,
and definitely pushing me

to my limits,
seeing what I'm capable of,

definitely keeping me busy.

On average, I'm working
from 15 to 16 hours a day.

But, man, am I tired!

[mysterious music plays]

- [Tyson] How are you?
- I'm good.

- [Tyson] I'm pretty good.

[rumbling softly]

[Parker] A couple things.

I want to get another plant
running in the Golden Mile.

I have two washplants
set up there.

Big Red,

I think we should try to fire
that thing up.

like, end of the week

I've already talked
to the mechanics.

They're starting
to work on her.

Let's see what happens
around here if we have

four plants running.

With the crew we got,
running three plants

on Dominion
is gonna be a stretch.

Like, I'm running like
a chicken with my head cut off

in between the two right now.

We're taking chaos
to a new level.

To bring in 10,000 ounces,
Parker wants to run

four washplants for the first
time in his career.

At his leased ground
on the Indian River,

Roxanne is pounding
through paydirt.

Ten miles north, at Dominion,
washplant Bob

is sluicing the Bridge Cut.

Two miles away, Sluicifer is
finishing off the first

11 acres of the Golden Mile.

Now, Parker wants Tyson to move
Sluicifer 800 feet to a new pad

to sluice the next
15-acre section.

To get through the pay as fast
as possible, Parker wants

to resurrect his old plant,
Big Red, and set it up

next to Sluicifer, doubling
his Golden Mile firepower.

[Tyson] The mechanics
are not gonna be happy.

Big Red screen deck,

the sluice runs,

and the prewash
need a lot of work.

And that's pretty much
what makes up a washplant.

And Parker wants it running
by the end of the week.

[Bill] Yeah, this plant was
in really bad shape.

After last year and pieces
flying off of it,

the thought of even
rebuilding it surprised me.

Last season,
after 13 years hard mining,

Big Red suffered
a catastrophic breakdown.

Now, Parker's mechanics
need to resurrect her

in just three days.

[Bill] Jordan, just hold it
there for one second.

[Jordan] OK, holding.

First up, attach Big Red's
refurbished hopper

where gold-rich paydirt
is fed into the plant.

[Bill] OK, cable down
a little bit more.

[Jordan] I would say Parker
has gold fever.

Gold prices are huge.
We had a [bleep] year last year.

We got thaw in these cuts.

Now, Jordan, we got to go
ahead towards the screen deck.

We got to be careful
it doesn't come all at once.

It's not a super heavy lift,
but it's just super precarious

once we try to get these
third and fourth pins set.

We're trying to move it,

inches to get a pin in.

The issue we're having is that
right now we have this prewash

hung on these pins right here,

and this arm,
whole support arm,

is actually on two pins
on the bottom,

so this whole thing
moves back and forth.

So we're trying to move it
ahead to drop the four pins

in the front,

but when we do,
this is floating free.

There's a lot of weight here,
so if we don't control it,

the thing could just shoot off
into there.

Bill secures
the hopper's support arm

and inches it forward
to slide the hopper in.

[rattling, whirring]

[Bill] OK, Jordan,
let's go down a little bit.

[suspenseful music plays]

OK, it's in.

Went the best it could go,
but we still got

to replace the screens,
weld the plates in.

Impact rubber's
got to be bolted in

to finish off the structural.

- And then reassembly.

we're definitely
not gonna make it.

[Tyson] Right now we're dealing
with everyone running

at their maximum capacity.

I'd like to have
the double washplant pad

for Sluicifer
and Big Red done.

Sluicifer has a couple days
of pay left.

Gonna be out here till nine,
10, 11 o'clock

at night tonight.
Wake up at 5 AM.

and I'll do it all over again.

So, we have a lot of work to do
and not much time

to get it done in.

Like Parker,

King of the Klondike,
Tony Beets is

also running at a fever pitch,

hoping to cash in
on record-high gold prices.

Tony's already mined
$10 million in gold and wants

a lot more, opening up
his biggest cut ever,

the 46-acre Corner Cut.

[Tony speaking]

To get through all this
ground, Tony's dropped

a million dollars
on a new washplant.

[Tony speaking]

The faster we can get this
thing going, the better it is.

[machine revving]

Tony has spent a lot of money
this year on new equipment

that is way more reliable
and does a way better job

at catching the gold.

I think we should
lift up the front.

It's a big investment,

but hopefully that will
pay for itself.

The new 45-ton washplant is
the same model as Tony's plant

Sluice-A-Lot, one of
the biggest shaker decks

money can buy.

It can process 350 yards
of pay an hour.

for the sluice runs.

Once it's out, Tony wants
to move it upstream to run

his piggy bank,
the 17-acre River Cut.

Then, he'll bring in
his brand-new washplant

to sit side by side.

Together, bring in upwards
of $16,000 in gold per hour.

There's just one problem...

the River Cut is flooded.

Now we can put
this sideboom in place.

Foreman Cousin Mike brings
in their submersible pump,

capable of shifting

By that time, we hope to have
the other washplant set up.

kind of slow.

We got the license extension

for the year to Vegas Valley.

I got to put my resources where
I know I'm going to get

the most gold.

With the gold sitting here that
we know is here, we kinda gotta,

we kind of got
to jump on that.

You don't really care where
the gold comes from, do you?

As long as we get that gold
in my pocket.

I'll have it to you
by the end of the week.

Only surprise will be
more gold.

- [Rick] Yeah.

Well, Troy wants his money.

You know, he says he's got

It's been a roller coaster,
if there ever was one of a year.

And we started the season off
with no water license,
nowhere to mine.

Ended up taking a huge gamble
and a big chunk of ground,

Lightning Creek, and going
back in debt.

And for the work
that we've done there,

there really hasn't
been much gold.

And that's wearing
on everybody, especially me.

But now, out of the blue,
we get a water license

here at Vegas Valley.

And we're not prepared for it,
but, hell, yeah,

we're coming back to it.

We know the gold's there.
We're going to go get it.

To get Troy 100 ounces
by the end of the week,

Rick plans to run a stockpile
of Vegas Valley pay

left over from last season.

[Rick]
Yeah, we've got a pile of pay
sitting there ready to run,

but our washplant's not ready.

Monster Red needs some work.

We just haven't gotten around
to fixing it because we didn't

know if we'd even be able
to use it this year.

There's water pouring out from
the backside of the feeder.

...Monster Red's main waterline
sprung a massive leak.

It's like half the pipe.

right behind the feeder,

right behind the grizzlies,

where boulders
the size of small cars

are coming off of.

Rick's tasked mechanic Ryan
Kent and his crew to cut out

the damaged area of pipe,
pull both ends together,

and clean to clamp it
back in place.

Kyle will get his chainsaw.
He'll chop that up.

We'll be able to yank it,
and we'll get it close enough

to put those together.

I hate doing
that [bleep] band-aid,

but we're out of time
for this season,

so we just can't run
the plant till it's done.
- [Kyle] Yep.

[Ryan] So, yeah, well,
I'll get the 460 over,

and let's hammer it out.

Just makes sense
to come back here.

We got a monster pile of pay
right there that would give us

a boost through the season.

Problem is,
we're short on time.

Gold's still owed to Troy,

so it's going to be
a patch job.

Honestly, we need to get
running pay.

We are right on the edge
of that feeder.

We don't want to take too much
away from this edge right here

and weaken the bank.

Otherwise, we're going
to end up losing the feeder.

[Kai] I just need to get
this rock out.

You feel good about cutting

We don't have to completely
uncover it, just loosen it

so we can pull it.

We are going to pull it about
a foot closer so we can get

our new connection put in.

bent weird like that?

Oh, that definitely
has a crack right there.

There's a big hole in there.

This is going to be
a pain in the ass.

Ryan's attempted quick fix
has created a bigger hole.

Now they need to dig up
the entire 200-foot-long pipe

to make the repair.

[Ryan] We're only going down
inches at a time here.

We've only got one clamp
to make this work.

Last thing we want to do
is put another hole

in a piece of pipe.

See, once it's pulled out
and exposed, we'll pull it

so we can get
our new connection put in.

That's it right there.

[chainsaw whirring]

- [Rick] Ah, this mess.
- [Ryan] This mess.

- [Rick] So that's how
it was buried?
- [Kyle] Yeah.

[Rick]
So from the beginning,
this was amateur hour

when it was put in.

- [Kyle] Yeah.

At the end of the day,
it's not exactly tricky.

You just got to get it right.

I mean, the hardest part is
getting the two ends

to line up.

- [Kai] That was close, Rick.
- [Kyle] We're touching.

Once it's close enough,
clamp it,

and then it's good.

I'm not too happy about

leaving the waterline
where it is.

That's why it got damaged
in the first place.

But unfortunately, we just
don't have the time

to move everything.

So we're just going to cut
some corners,

unfortunately, and have to be
extra careful to make it work.

And by doing that, we're going
to be able to save

a week's worth of sluicing.

- [Ryan] I think we're good.
- [Kai] That's in.

Yeah, it closed right up, so.

I want everybody to take
pictures of where it's at,

so they remember.

We got the waterline fixed.

A bit of a pain in the ass,
but we got it done.

The next step is to get
the water pump down

to Lightning Creek because
we don't know if it's going

to hold until we put
pressure on it.

So we get that all hooked up,
and if it holds,

we're in good shape.
We can run Monster Red.

this might be the last load
of pay from the Pyramid Cut.

We just dumped the last load of
pay from the Pyramid Cut there.

The pay pile looks big,
but she won't last that long.

We've really got to crack
into that new ground and start

hauling pay as soon
as possible.

So we got
the Pyramid Cut open,

and we're running that pay.

But that is going
to run out soon.

So right now, I'm off to go
look where we're going

to start stripping next.

While his dad, Tony,
expands his empire,

Kevin Beets is struggling
to stay in the game.

Nearly halfway through
the season,

the sophomore mine
boss is short on crew,

short on gold,
and short on time.

The gold not being quite
as good as we had hoped

is making me a little hesitant
about a 2,000-ounce goal.

We're not hurting yet,
but it's definitely not great.

So we're going to have
to speed [bleep] up,

be more efficient.

And the new cut, once we get
into there, we're going to have

to open it up pretty quick.

Otherwise, we're going to have
no pay to run, which means

no gold in the box, which means
no money coming in, which means

no bills being paid.

So better pick and ride,
I guess.

So we just have to figure out
what is going to be

the quickest, easiest, fastest

options.

There's only so many of those
that we got to pick from,

given what claims we have.

Just over the years, I just
kind of picked up from Tony

what to look for, because doing
it for a quarter of a century,

you're just naturally going

Kevin has identified a block
of ground 500 feet north

of his washplant setup.

This spot would probably
be it, honestly.

It's in the valley,
relatively flat,

really accessible,
because our plant

is just down the [bleep] way.

I did do some test holes last
year, year before, and I got

15 feet down a thaw.
That's pretty [bleep] good.

That-- that's something
we can [bleep] work with.

This next cut is gonna be a big
decision because I hope

it's gonna take us through
the end of the season.

So, I really do hope
that it's gonna [bleep] pay out.

I think we're going to call it
the "Sphinx Cut."

At Scribner Creek,

Kevin has spent nearly
10 weeks mining out

the three-acre Pyramid Cut,

and now has just a stockpile
left to run.

500 feet up the valley is
his new seven-acre Sphinx Cut.

He needs it ripped, stripped,
and down to pay

in the first section before
his stockpile runs out

in a week's time.

With no time to waste,

master plan to come to life.

We're just taking it nice
and slow and steady here.

If we mess something up,
