My father helped build it.

worked on the bridge, until conscription.

So your father was called to fight in the war?

Before he was deployed,

my father placed one of the first locks on the bridge,

making a promise to my mother that he would come back to her.

When he came home,

he met her right there.

To think they would tear this

bridge down breaks my heart.

Do you know which lock is theirs?

Of course I do.

So, at the end of the bridge, the plaque states

that this is a bridge for the people of Cupid's Creek

and owned by the people and their promises to each other.

What does that mean to you?

It's permission for people

to place a piece of themselves on our bridge.

Simply by making a promise

with a lock,

it belongs to them.

My father was also awarded a certificate

that stated that he and the other workers

owned a piece of this bridge for their hard work.

Signed by the town council and notary.

My father used to walk

tall across this bridge,

saying, "I'm an owner."

They also own a piece of our hearts.
