This was the bedroom I grew up in.
It was home to a thousand memories.
Like Dante sneaking in and spending the night while my parents were fast asleep.
It was
where we had our first kiss. Our first,
I love you.
All those incredible memories.
But now I was moving out and moving on.
The past was just a memory, but it was a damn good one.
You see, Dante and I had one of those epic love stories.
We met at a college party.
He was a senior.
I was a freshman.
We fell in love and spent the next 10 months enjoying every moment we could
one another.
I thought he was my forever, but that was the romantic in me.
The girl that never could have predicted what was coming next.
So I was thinking we could try and climb Mount Whitney this summer?
You think I'm crazy?
No, I don't think you're crazy, but I am going to Europe for a few months with
JP.
When did you plan that?
I don't know.
A few weeks ago.
And you weren't going to tell me?
I didn't realize I needed to tell you everything.
But I'm your girlfriend.
So what?
That gives you some form of authority over me or something?
Everything I'd ever believed about Dante and that soulmate kind of love was a
lie. Dante wasn't my one and only love.
He was my greatest heartbreak.
What the hell?
And now, here I was, three years later, waiting to see him before I headed off
to medical school.
At first, I thought it would be awkward, that we'd have nothing to say.
But then he reached out and hugged me, and I forgot all the hurt I'd felt
him.
We spent the next few hours catching up on the last few years.
He'd ended up moving to Europe for a little while.
I'd buried my head in books, determined to get into a top medical school.
He had been out living his life while I was home preparing for mine.
But somehow, we'd wound up here, back at my childhood home, where we'd first
fallen in love.
And before I knew it, there we were.
having sex in the same room we'd broken up in five years before.
Hmm.
Oh, fuck.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Yeah.
how much we had changed.
Time to go grab some food after this?
I have to finish packing.
Well, it was good seeing you, I guess.
You too.
And that was the exact moment that I had to let go of the path for good.
Dante had been a beautiful part of my life.
But he just didn't fit into my future anymore.
