The Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade

here at Walt Disney World Resort

is one of my favorite traditions.

It's really become the thing to do on Christmas mornings.

Plus, we're going to be joined

by a junior parade correspondent.

You saw her dancing to start the show,

and you saw her in the movie Lilo & Stitch,

Maia Kealoha.

She's bringing us right into the action today.

Hi, Maia.

Hi, Ginnifer. Hi, Alfonso. Happy holidays.

Oh, and you too, Maia. How's it going over by you?

It's going amazing.

Me and the Disney fans are all so excited.

Plus, it's my very first time

actually being at the Christmas Day Parade.

Who are you most excited to see?

I want to see Stitch, of course,

but really, I can't wait to see everyone.

made his debut the same year the planet Pluto was discovered.

Because Alice and the Mad Hatter are here.

Donald Duck and Daisy Duck.

Gwen grew up with Disneyland practically in her backyard,

and loves spending the holidays in the parks with her family.

[Ginnifer] More classic Disney duos are heading towards us,

like Peter Pan and Wendy.

And there's Pinocchio and Geppetto.

-I love this. -[Alfonso] Hey, look.

There's Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too,

rocking the festive accessories.

[Ginnifer] And here are Mary Poppins and Bert.

One of the stars of Mary Poppins,

Dick Van Dyke, is one of my all-time favorite actors.

I got to meet him once, and he was delightful.

And we all know he's an incredible dancer.

[Alfonso] Well, you know, Dick Van Dyke is an icon

and a Disney legend.

I had the honor of dancing with him when I was 12 years old

on a show called Night of 100 Stars II.

I got to do a piece with Dick Van Dyke.

Yes, it's something I will always treasure.

He is the embodiment of Disney magic,

and he's celebrating his 100th birthday.

-Well, happy birthday, Dick Van Dyke. -Yes.

Now, we're celebrating the holidays all morning long.

[Alfonso] Here are Judy and Nick from Zootopia.

They're back on the beat right now with a new movie,

Zootopia 2, in theaters.

I have to say, it has been so much fun

to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

There's gonna be a new mission with Mando and Grogu

at Walt Disney World and Disneyland next summer.

That sounds incredible. We might be in sunny Florida,

but this parade is about to get Frozen.

we don't just highlight the Disney stars,

we also get to meet some very special families.

This family is bringing opportunity to children

in their community one page at a time

with a mobile library. Let's meet the Thompsons.

[Carlesia] My name is Carlesia Thompson.

[Katricia] I'm Katricia Thompson.

[Teresa] My name is Teresa Day,

and we are Seas the Day Mobile Library.

This all came to be because

we were looking for something to be community-oriented.

In Oklahoma, we're number 50 in education.

I pitched the idea let's do a mobile library,

like, when we was younger.

Y'all ready to have fun?

[children] Yeah!

[Teresa] We grew up in the projects, and over there,

the mobile library would come around once a week,

and they would sit down and they would read with us.

[Carlesia] I'm gonna read it exactly how I wrote it.

And y'all gonna see why punctuation is important.

When this big bus rolls up into your neighborhood,

and you have books, you have science experiments,

it really makes reading enjoyable

and something that the kids now want to do, too.

[Lori] There are a lot of kids in our community

that are not exposed to reading and to books.

It's a true blessing to have them as part of the community.

-[♪ uplifting music playing] -[Barry] Today, the girls think

it's a normal Seas the Day Thursday

where they come out, hang out, chill with the kids,

but they have no earthly idea what we're doing today.

For their services to the community,

Disney donated 1,000 books,

and we have our KIPP scholars here today

who have been impacted by the ladies

with Seas the Day Mobile Library.

They're here to celebrate the surprise as well.

So, I'm really excited for them. They truly deserve it.

Oh. [chuckles]

Teresa, Katricia, Carlesia, you amazing ladies

put the "lit" in the word "literature"

through Seas the Day Mobile Library.

And because of your hard work, Disney Parks is sending you

and your entire family to Walt Disney World!

Our friends at Walt Disney…

want to help to kick this thing off right.

So they sent a real special friend

[Carlesia] This is our first time at Disney World,

and we have our entire family with us.

I've never been on anything like that in my life.

[Carlesia] Seeing my kids get so excited, it's just magical.

We are at the Animal Kingdom Lodge,

and it's so great.

I love the animals. Oh, I can't believe it.

Like, we're in an African safari.

[all screaming]

[Carlesia] This trip means a lot.

The fact that we got to experience with our kids

what we didn't get in our childhood.

This is a big moment for us.

Some of my favorite moments are reading with my kids,

and these women are making sure so many families

get the opportunity to unlock imagination, confidence,

and endless possibilities.

There is no better gift a child can get.

So many fans have fallen in love with them,

so it's no surprise they're parade favorites here, too.

[Alfonso] Do you know that Walt Disney

and his studio artists first dreamt of making a film

like Frozen when they considered

Hans Christian Andersen's Snow Queen

back in the 1930s?

Once you have a great idea, you never let it go.

Mm. Mm.

Now, what is it like to see this parade up close?

I'm feeling the magic, and I'm a parade lady.

-[Alfonso] You're a parade lady? -[Ginnifer] I am.

[Alfonso] Hello, hello, Elsa.

Do you come to the parade every time you come to Disney?

-Absolutely. -Like, you make sure you do the parade?

Now, I am a huge fan of a guy

who's about to take us to Hawaii for the holidays.

This musician first picked up a ukulele in fifth grade,

and by the time he was 18, he won American Idol.

on a magical Disney Cruise Line vacation

they'll never forget.

My name is Senaida Martinez-Jasso,

and I am from Fort Worth, Texas.

My name is Mike Jasso, and I'm from Fort Worth, Texas.

[Senaida] When we first married,

we lived life, and enjoyed our company.

But there was always something

that I was still missing, yearning for.

And we entertained the thought of adoption.

The first step we took was in 2019.

[Mike] We went to the adoption agency.

[Senaida] And we waited.

They got matched with their kids in July of 2023.

[Mike] They melted our heart, these cute little kids.

They had these big old smiles.

[Senaida] It was just instant connection.

Hello.

[Ashley] I've never been to an adoption where

that many people attended.

[Senaida] We did the whole cheesy over the top.

We got our shirts on.

[Mike] People say it takes a village.

We had a nation.

These kids just want the attention

and the love that someone cares about them.

[Christopher] Safe means, to me,

making sure that everybody else is not hurt.

You okay?

[Mike] Christopher, he's a protector.

We had a conversation with him, and said,

"You no longer have to be a mom or a dad."

"You can be a kid. Enjoy your childhood."

[Christopher] I think I know something.

[Senaida] And when we saw him just be able to be a kid, interact…

[Christopher] We're on the ship.

You're on a ship? All right!

…we knew we were on the right path.

-[♪ soft instrumental music playing] -[crickets chirping]

Where can I hang this?

We're in there decorating our Christmas tree,

baking some cookies.

But little do they know, this year,

we got a special surprise.

Thirty of our friends and family are coming to our home

-to share the news. -Okay. Try it.

[Senaida] Disney Cruise Line is inviting us

to go on our first family trip on the Disney Wish.

[Mike] Y'all haven't told me

what y'all are gonna tell Santa Claus

-you want for Christmas. -[doorbell ringing]

[Mike] Who's that?

My love, since the day that I met you,

it's been one adventure after the next.

She's part mermaid, part cephalopod, all sea witch.

Yeah, even in a sea of villains, at Disney,

a hero is never far away.

Let's meet the Nevarez-Lujano family.

-[♪ gentle piano music playing] -[Alex] Pass.

[Vanessa] Let's go.

When I was about 15 weeks pregnant,

we found out Alex was gonna be born

with spina bifida.

Spina bifida is

when the spine doesn't close correctly.

The nerves are still exposed, and that's where

some of the physical challenges come into play.

Set, hike.

Spina bifida didn't change how we handled parenting,

because when you're a parent,

you handle anything that comes your way.

[♪ soft instrumental music playing]

The playground that we went to here in our local community,

Alex couldn't roll on the wood chips.

It wasn't accessible.

[voice breaking] It was hard for me as his mom

to see him in the sidelines. Well… Ah.

I was able to reach out to the park district,

and I voiced that kids in wheelchairs

are not any different. They need a place to belong.

[Christa] The park district wanted to help out,

and we had a playground that was ready for replacement,

and it just happened to be right in Alex's neighborhood.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

It was a very extensive process to obtain grants and funding,

but there wasn't anything that was gonna stop me.

As we go to the playground, it's a dream come true.

It's been amazing to see Alex be able to roam around

and play, and not be left out.

[Victor] When he's there with his friends,

he don't wanna leave, he just wants to have fun.

Live life to the fullest.

You got this. There you go, beautiful.

This wheelchair has opened many opportunities for him.

It really has been a superpower.

Today, we're here

at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry

at the Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing exhibit.

[Victor] Alex is about to find out from Spider-Man

that we're going to Disneyland Resort in California.

is the original, the OG Disney villain.

I've been with Disney for 26 years,

and I've been a guide now for 16.

The best spot for a photo of Buzz is right here.

The most rewarding aspect is getting

to meet these families from all over the world.

And some have been here many times,

and some have never been here.

The Copeland journey

to Walt Disney World was very interesting.

We would come to Disney probably every five to eight years.

Later on, when my brother Brian and I were old enough,

we started taking trips alone, just the two of us.

-Brian was… -[♪ emotional music playing]

Brian was always one that I liked to follow.

The one thing I was able to beat him to

was coming here to Walt Disney World.

But he followed shortly after and started working

at Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin.

If you ever saw Brian out and about,

he had something Buzz Lightyear on.

He became known in our Disney family

as Brian Lightyear.

Buzz was everything to Brian.

After Brian had passed, there was a lot of love

and care from all over Walt Disney World

'cause a lot of people knew Brian.

I felt nothing but support.

I'll never forget that.

to dress up Main Street, USA for a live animated game

between the Cavaliers and the Knicks.

And along with the halftime parade,

I'll be hiding hidden Mickeys.

[narrator] But, uh-oh,

looks like someone snuck along for the ride.

Let's "Dunk the Halls" with Cavaliers-Knicks,

Christmas Day at noon.

[Alfonso] And the NBA will showcase

five must-see matchups all day long today,

starting at noon Eastern Time on ABC and ESPN.

[Ginnifer] Now, these waltzing couples

are officially inviting us to an elegant holiday party

with some of our favorite princesses.

[Alfonso] Starting with Belle and the Beast,

and some great ballroom dancers showing off their moves.

They're in brand-new attire for this year.

-Looking sharp. -[Ginnifer chuckles]

Our friends are in their holiday best,

-like both of us. -Of course. They look great.

Disney's costume experts design

and pick the wardrobes for the entire parade,

from a selection of 2.4 million wardrobe choices

-at Walt Disney World. -I would love to see

the size of that closet.

Belle is one of my all-time favorite Disney princesses.

I love that she values herself for her intellect.

[Alfonso] Mm.

[Ginnifer] And there's Rapunzel and Flynn from Tangled

with Jasmine and Aladdin.

Those guys started out as loveable rogues

-and then found love. -Mm. Flynn, Aladdin, Alfonso.

All of us loveable rogues in our own way.

-Definitely lovable, Alfonso. -[chuckles]

Ooh, Rapunzel's story is another Disney tale

that was planned from the early days of the studio.

Walt and his artists started talking

about making a Rapunzel movie in the 1940s.

[Ginnifer] And here comes Princess Aurora

and Prince Phillip, who are waving

to the crowds from their float.

And of course, no Disney holiday would be complete

without a little magic.

The Fairy Godmother is there above them all.

[Alfonso] And hopefully, she can sprinkle a little magic our way.

You heard her in Moana,

and she's a Tony-winning Broadway star

with a holiday song from Disneyland Resort.

at places like schools and hospitals.

And he's helped collect hundreds of thousands of toys

for Toys for Tots

with the Disney Ultimate Toy Drive.

that embody the spirit of adventure and togetherness.
