When I first met Baba
in Puttaparthi,

I didn't come as His devotee.

At that time, my focus was only
on business and earning money.

I once went to Bengaluru
on a business trip.

My destination was Bengaluru.

But my cab driver took
a wrong U-turn.

I lost my way
and reached Puttaparthi.

My minute-to-minute schedules,

Swami changed in mere seconds.

When I first stepped
into Swami's temple,

I saw a never ending wave
of devotees.

But what astonished me

among all the devotees

was the serene silence.

The aroma of incense
filled the air.

In the midst of that fragrance,

a scene framed before my eyes.

Within me,

was a continuous noise of thoughts
like an ATM machine

that stopped altogether
at once in total silence.

Into that spiritual silence

Swami walked in front of my eyes.

Clad in a saffron robe,

a face glowing with radiance.

He's just a normal person...

I thought to myself.

My silly thought

suddenly halted as if
He had heard the voices in my head.

He came and stood in front of me

as if He knew me for many years.

I was shocked to read it.

I was getting trapped earning money
and thereby losing my peace of mind.

I felt it intensely that day.

But this feeling
locked in my heart,

I hadn't shared it
with a single soul.

How did Swami know my inner feeling?

How did He say it
as if He read my mind?

I was alone that night.

Swami's direct gaze at me.

My mind was thrown
off balance totally.

I realized at that moment in time

something precious in life.

my devotion for Swami,

The love I have for my son
gained priority.

That love towers high
like a mountain in front of my eyes.

How can a mother turn her back
from the child she gave birth to?

The blood running in his veins
and the breath he inhales.

My belief is shrinking
when I see him in this state.

My wife Jane and I
built a house in California.

It was a paradise.

We built it with one thought.

- We tied one small photo of Baba

For the next two days,
we were helpless.

We saw the neighbourhood vanish.

Houses burn.

Even the fire fighters
were overwhelmed.

Then the fire reached our area.

But then, we got the news.

Our house was untouched.

Everything around,

the trees, houses, garden was ash.

But our home.

- Not even a scratch.

- And when we returned,

it was like a miracle
had stood guard.

All black and charred around.

- But our home stood there.

Perfect.

Peaceful.

And outside,

- the Baba photo was fine.

- Still fluttering in the wind.

Vasudevanji told me,

- my children who live with love
for me,

- their homes, their lives
will be protected by me.
