Tom here from Orange Systems and

something that people may find lacking

in Junas is a built-in web file manager.

But there is an application that you can

use to add that feature on. And that's

what this video is about is to show you

how to set that up. And for those of you

wondering, haven't I done a video on

this before? Yes, I have. Things have

changed. This is a new version of that

video because, well, it doesn't set up

in exactly the same way as it did in my

video from a few years back. So, let's

get started. We're using Shunas

25.04.21,

to one current release here in August of

2025. The first thing I want to do is go

to data sets. I have a data set called

apps. And this is where I store app

configuration data. So before we install

it, let's go ahead and create a spot to

store the configuration files for the

file browser. You want to set the data

set permission to apps. Hit save. And

the two other data sets that we're going

to be using is this test data set which

I created also with the app's permission

and this test share which is just a

standard SMB share. So I'm going to show

you how to set up each of these and

we're also going to show you how to

attach it to another share that is not

on this Tuness. Now we're going to head

over to apps discover apps find the file

browser app and go ahead and install.

Leave the user ID and group ID the same

unless you have some really special

reason to customize it. Leave the port

the same if you want. This is where the

extra host IPs can be added if you

wanted to use something other than the

default IP on the system. And we're just

going to use a default IP.

For certificate, I will use the standard

shun default certificate. And this is

our config storage, which will be host

path

mount flashy apps file browser. And

that's where the configuration data will

go. Now, additional storage is how you

access those other data sets that also

have permission. So, we're going to add

a host path that already exists in the

system. You have to give it a name. You

can give it whatever name you want, but

I prefer to match the name to the name

in the host path because that seems the

least confusing way to do it. Now, if

you want to add more, we'll come back

later and do this, but you would click

the add button, but I want to do it one

step at a time. So, we're going to ahead

and finish the install.

Now that it's up and running, we do not

want to log in yet because we don't have

the credentials. We're going to go and

click on the file browser. We see it

running here and we want to view the

logs. This is only going to be shown the

first time you run this. It's going to

generate a password. We want to copy

that password. The username is always

going to be admin as it says here, but

it creates a random password the first

time it's installed. That data is stored

within the database under the config

settings. So, if you ever wanted to

reset this, you could simply go and

delete those configuration settings and

it will regenerate them and generate a

new password when it starts back up.

Now, we can go to the apps, click on the

file browser, click on the web UI,

username is admin, paste in the

password, and there's our test data set.

Not much in here, but we'll upload a

file to verify the permissions work.

Choose a few files, and they're

uploaded. We can go here to home.

There's the test data set. Double click.

This gives us the ability to move, copy,

or trash the files or download them from

here. Now, let's go back to True NAS and

add a share. We're going to go back over

here to the file browser. Go back to

edit. Scroll down. Click add. And you

have to scroll down again because it

puts it on the bottom. And this time,

we're going to choose SMB CFS share.

Give it a mount path. I know it's called

test share. We'll put test share as a

path. It doesn't need any slashes before

or after it. I know the username on this

system is Tom

and there's no domain set up. So, we

just need a password. And we'll go down

here to the bottom and hit update.

Coming back over here to the file

browser, we can look at our test share.

There's nothing in here. Let's make sure

we have permissions to upload to it.

And we do. There's a file. Now, I've

also mounted this share on my system

here. So, we'll go ahead and crl +v just

to make an extra copy of that file. and

it won't update in real time, but if we

hit refresh here, you can see that that

file is there. So now there's two of

them and we have permission to delete

those files. So we can send them to the

trash. And because it's using the same

permissions for the share that I use

when I mount it from my computer,

there's no conflicts or permission

issues. But what if you want to connect

it to a different truness or just a

different share? We're going to go ahead

and edit. Scroll down again. Same

process as before. We're going to hit

add. It's going to put it down here at

the bottom.

And we're going to choose another SMB.

We'll give this a name, LTS video.

There's the server.

The path is also LTS video. Keeping it

consistent.

No domain, Tom, and a password. Hit

update.

It's deployed. Go over here.

And now we have the LTS video which this

is my share that I use for recording my

videos. So all the different production

videos are in here etc. And I can copy

these if I wanted to copy one of these

files. Let's use this one here. Copy. Go

here. And let's bring it to our local

test share and hit copy. And it's now

copied that video between the two. Now

the last piece here is going to settings

user management. And maybe you want to

change that password, which you can do

here. But I would actually suggest

making a new user. So instead of using

this admin user, let's go ahead and

create a Tom user.

Give Tom a password. Make Tom the

administrator.

Save. Log out. Log back in. Not going to

save this password in the vault for the

demo. Then we're going back over to user

management. And I mentioned this before,

there's no way to delete the admin

account, but you can remove permissions

and change the password. So if anyone

were to try to log in as admin and were

to guess whatever random password that

you've set it to, it wouldn't have any

permissions. So you can, to my

knowledge, not delete the admin and you

can rename it.

Now, one thing I want to comment on here

regarding the configuration 172161633

is the IP address of this Trunass and

1721664

is the IP address of the other true NAS

where I'm connecting the shares. The

reason I point it at the share instead

of pointing it at the data set where the

share is, which you can do, but that

would require more steps and more

permission. This way is a lot cleaner

and you won't have to solve any

permission conflicts because this runs

as a app that has app permissions versus

users will run as user permissions or

different user groups. So you may want

to create a special user for this. So

you may distinguish it from other users

you have. I only have me on here uh just

the Tom user. So that's one I set it up

as. Also, if you're wondering about
