We have made it to Alabama, and it's

time for the second to last Grade 8 event of the season.

This track here in Alabama is extremely fast.

Look, these guys hold radial races all the time,

and this surface is sticky from the start.

This facility is 100 acres in size,

and their first race took place back in 1955.

And they're avid Alabama fans.

Once again, we are at one and a half times the points,

which means these drivers can make some big moves.

Welcome to the Grade 8 drivers' meeting.

Guys and ladies, there's only two races left.

So if you're in the hunt for points,

or if you're in first place in points,

I want to lock it up.

So Nate could actually tie me, and Sean

could get really, really close.

So leaving this race, even if I go out first round,

nobody's going to pass me.

Worst case scenario is I could be tied.

But what I really need to do is draw Sean or Nate first round

and go ahead and take them out.

That way I can stop their run at this championship.

Because if you're going to be the champion,

you've got to beat all eight of them.

And that's what I plan to do.

This is a track that's kind of local to me,

about five hours from my house.

We actually drive over here to Grudge Race.

To me, in my opinion, this track in maybe Virginia

is probably the two fastest tracks in the country.

So we're looking forward to really going fast here.

And all week, I've researched everything

I could research about how to keep this belt from breaking.

And I really think we found a problem.

I think we were getting the belt too tight.

Them other spacers, they was on the ground.

We need to save them so we can cut them.

Where are the motor?

Yeah, send them without them.

I feel like if we wouldn't have had these belt problems,

then we probably already had the championship sealed.

But it's just one of them things, man.

You know, it's a, you're running a marathon.

You know, you're not sprinting.

So it takes 16 races to get to the top.

And, you know, if it would have taken five or six,

we'd have won it.

Because the first part of the year, we were killing it.

And then we won Band of Mirror both days.

After that, it's just plagued with belt problems.

This little lever right here broke in half one day.

It's just something that we weren't prepared for.

You know, it's $5 parts.

You're supposed to get, like, 10 to 15 passes out of a belt.

Our plan is I bought enough belts.

We're going to run them three passes and take them off.

And after that, I'll probably just test

with them later or something.

But at this point, we can't afford

for another belt to break.

So belts are about $300 a piece.

So every three passes, it's going to cost me $300.

But it's a lot better than losing first round

and going to the total home and trying to figure

out what I did wrong.

So we're just taking all precautions.

We're going to give them the best run

we can at this championship.

And if we fail, at least we know we gave it all we had.

I think the total of them all wouldn't have been a foot.

Lately, we have been sucking, going out first round

several times in a row.

I don't know what the hell is going on.

But we don't have luck on our side.

We made a grudge hit.

And the car made a stellar pass.

We've been fighting this the last few races.

Ever since we came back from Denver,

we've been fighting this issue.

And I don't know.

We're chasing it.

And we still can't figure out why.

For first round, I end up drawing Damon.

I drew Damon first round in grade 8 in glide

and first round at imitation.

So I don't know.

I keep drawing him for some reason.

He's definitely a guy I don't want to draw.

He's fast, kicked my ass the last few times.

So I feel like I have a car that can beat him.

I don't know.

We just got to be on our game.

And hopefully, this motor stays together.

And we make a fast pass.

We drew Lizzie, no stranger to racing her.

She's been struggling a little bit.

All right, we are at second to the last racetrack,

Alabama International Dragway here at Steele, Alabama.

And it is race day.

It's Friday.

The track looks just right.

This should be a really good race.

You know, we have, if you could call it a comeback story,

I feel like we're on the comeback.

Last week, I went to the finals, but unfortunately

had a parts failure for about the third or fourth time

this year.

So we're going to do some extra maintenance this week,

try to make sure that those things don't happen,

replace parts a little bit more often that potentially could

break, and try to get our way to the finals.

Just a little sore on the front.

The racetrack is not, like, there yet.

As soon as a couple parts got it.

By the time we get back up there, it'll be killer.

So all the rest of it, after the first five feet,

it's just like where we tested.

When we were in Gullot, the little engine

that could, that MH6 was on its very last leg, and we knew it.

But we went to Pro Line, traded her for her big sister,

and now we have a MH7 in, and the playing field is even.

I'm going to leave on him, and it's going to be over.

I just can't wait to get this first round over with.

Man, we drew Ryan Martin for first round.

And in my opinion, he is the grizzliest bear out here.

He's the fastest one in the field, in my opinion,

right now.

I slowed it down just a little bit.

We wanted to make sure we made the trip.

But essentially, we basically put the tune-up back in

that we ran her with in the semis last week.

But we just put in what we knew was going to go,

and it went fast.

I haven't been able to say this in a while,

but I'm on to round two in grade eight.

It's weird, I know, but grade eight, for some reason,

we really struggled.

We won the very first one, and then, yeah,

and then we're out of it for 10 races,

and then pop back in here at the last couple.

And Sean beat me on both of my last two first rounds.

So it is what it is.

But we got a good car back, so we're

going to pick away at this, try to go fast for the next run,

see what happens.

and went from, like, hero to zero super quick.

but even if we would have repeated,

we still wouldn't have beat him.

I'm sitting fourth right now in the grade eight,

so I still have a shot.

So as far as that aspect goes, we've been doing pretty good,

this season, and who do I draw?

Of course I draw Nate.

I've raced him four or five times this year,

and the last two or three times, he's outran me.

What we're trying to run now, first round,

would have been final round stuff last year.

I know that I've got to go faster,

because right now I'm using my what

I would call a final round tune-up in my first pass.

My test pass is wicked up, you know?

And that's my problem.

if you can't run a three-second pass,

you can't run a three-second pass.

Like, if you don't know how to do it, it's tough to do it.

You have to do it in testing on a good track,

and then come here and have the data.

and just ass-end came around, and there were sparks

flying in the car and smoking.

I pulled the fire pin and then whacked the wall.

It started eating the pavement.

I thought I had it saved.

It was super close, and I didn't.
