KEN: Because if you finish last,

your million-dollar dream is over,

and you're out of the game.

- [screams]

KEN: Players, welcome to "99 to Beat."

One person can win this million dollars,

so there's gonna be some hard goodbyes coming.

ERIN: Remember, Ken, you don't have to be first.

You don't have to be the best.

But whatever you do--

ALL: Don't finish last!

[cheers and applause]

- This is a football field kind of view here.

- This is exactly what a Super Bowl pregame is like.

You see Patrick Mahomes.

You see those guys have to be chill because there's

so much going into it.

ANNOUNCER: Players, hanging above you are 1,000 balloons.

Hidden inside some of those balloons are Hawaiian leis.

When the balloons drop, you need to find a lei

and put it on.

There are 100 of you, but only 99 leis.

Every single game puts a million dollars on the line.

But remember, don't finish last.

- How would you attack this?

- I would be aggressive.

Just stomp, stomp, stomp. Pop, pop, pop.

AGGIE: We wanted to come on "99 to Beat"

because this money would be great to go on a honeymoon,

buy a new home, you know, start our life together as a couple.

- So I don't think height really

matters for this challenge.

I'm the luckiest person in the entire world.

I've even won my wedding dress, skincare, makeup products.

You name it, I've probably won it.

- I wish I was a little taller.

- No, Janice, you've got this.

- I am only thinking about myself,

and how can I get one of those leis?

[dramatic music]

- To be the first one to be eliminated

would be a nightmare come true.

KEN: There's 1,000 balloons, but only 99 leis,

and not every balloon has a lei.

For the first time, it's game time.

Here we go. - Let's go.

- All right, everybody turn to uncivilized animals

[buzzer blares]

ERIN: How physical is this gonna get?

KEN: Look at that.

Just jumping right in. Wow.

CONTESTANT: I got it! KEN: This is such a quick game.

Players are already finding leis.

- Yeah!

KEN: Half the players already have leis.

Oh. There's lucky Tori.

What's she doing with those two balloons?

Oh, yes, she's got one.

- Whoo!

ERIN: Newlywed Julian still doesn't have a lei.

KEN: Frank the clown is still looking for that.

Wow, there is panic right now.

Look, Frank is freaking out.

My worst nightmare is happening.

ERIN: Go to the outside circle.

CONTESTANT: Whoa!

KEN: He snatched it out of Mariama's hand.

- Wow. - Are you kidding me?

MARIAMA: I had it in my hand.

- Frank found a lei.

Now we only have three players left:

Mariama, Janice, and Geraldine.

ERIN: There's the lei right there.

KEN: All three are going for it.

- Is everyone OK?

Janice, our oldest player.

ERIN: I'm so sorry.

JANICE: Just rotten luck.

I must have popped 10 balloons,

and none of them had the flower lei in it.

Your journey is over before it even began.

You are the first player to be eliminated from the game.

You have finished in 100th place.

And your million-dollar dream is over.

JANICE: I really wanted to show all of these people

who are a lot younger than me that I really had it going on.

Even though I might have been eliminated,

I'm still feeling really good about myself.

[cheers and applause] - Go, Janice!

ERIN: At the end of this competition,

one of you will win the grand prize of $1 million.

There were 100 of you.

So for every player eliminated, $10,000 is added to the prize.

With Janice leaving, the prize now stands at $10,000.

[cheers and applause]

ANNOUNCER: Players, it's time for our second game.

You each have a whistle encased in a block of ice.

You must defrost it using only body heat,

then blow the whistle.

You must not smash the ice block on the floor.

The last player to blow their whistle will be eliminated.

- This game is crazy. ERIN: Ridiculous.

SETH: You know, I really thought that they were

gonna do a game where you had a block of ice

and you needed to melt it down,

and so I thought, you know what?

I'll wear the tweed coat today.

ERIN: Ken, what's your strategy?

- Friction on a body part that's hot.

And the hottest part of my body is my personality.

- Aw.

It's ice, so we're trying to do some exercises

to get some sweat going.

And that's just [indistinct] right there for you.

My hand's getting nice and hot.

- Family has just been our core value since we're born.

But I'm gonna fight tooth and nail,

even if it's against my own brother,

for that million dollars.

- Student loans are high.

ERIN: Oh, there's our lady from "Survivor" right there.

KEN: Pacing herself.

She's just like, that's how I want to be.

SANDRA: I'm Sandra Diaz-Twine.

I'm a two-time winner of "Survivor."

I'm excited to play the game, but I know that

there's a lot of pressure

that comes with my performance, so fingers crossed.

I'm gonna do my best.

- Here, I can open up my shirt

and shove it up under my armpit.

Anybody would be lucky to have a long-term...

KING DAVID: First thing I could think, I don't know why,

is to put it in my pants.

but it was worth it for that million.

ERIN: So right now, there's only 30 players left.

So we really need to pick up the pace here.

James looks like he's been through a war.

and you are eliminated from the game.

- I'm a little upset that I'm gonna have to go home,

but I gave it my all.

- With Tammy being the second contestant to leave,

the prize now stands at $20,000.

- It is so wild how you really build a bond

with people really quickly.

CONTESTANT: That's a big cactus.

CONTESTANT: Three people are having to carry it.

- Players, move to the box that corresponds with

how much you think the cacti weigh.

- I am originally from Haiti.

I grew up in a farm, but I never measure anything.

- I'm standing here. - Me too.

ADAM: 'Cause I know cactuses are heavy.

As a flight attendant, I look at shapes and sizes

all the time, but I don't know how to do

pounds and estimate weights.

ERIN: It's gonna be interesting to see

if the other players are kind of looking around to see

what everybody else thinks.

CONTESTANT: What do you think?

ADAM: I think it's the lighter one.

CONTESTANT: It's either one of these two, right, I'm thinking.

you will be randomly split into teams of 12.

You will each have a bucket attached to your head

and must pass water from one bucket to the next

and deposit what remains into a container

at the front of your row.

As a team, you must continue adding water to your container

in order to retrieve the Ping-Pong ball inside.

The last team to fill all three cylinders

will all be eliminated.

- This is brutal.

AGGIE: I'm a very competitive person.

- And I'm a ex retired wrestler,

so being competitive is--

it's just in my nature.

[upbeat music]

in the elimination playoff.

and they're gonna start to panic.
