as a place, as a country,

it's just a really beautiful,
spectacular place.

I'm on the track, like,
every day because where it's located,

it's just normal roads
that everyone takes.

It's a great place to go racing.

The grandstands are full,

people are on their balconies
watching you race.

That's a wicked feeling. I love that.

Monaco is the Wimbledon of tennis,
the Masters of golf,

it is the ultimate.

It's got the history,
the gravitas, the majesty.

This is the crown jewel in motorsport.

It's the prestige,
the myth, the hype.

It's the glamour.
It's all those things mixed into one.

Every driver, if you ask them,
"Where do you want to win?" It's Monaco.

When you live there,
like Mitch Evans,

to win there must mean everything.

I've raced here many times,

and I've been on the podium
a lot of times.

Evans has finished
on the podium the last two races here,

he's never won.

I feel like I'm good
around this track,

but I've just never been able
to convert it into a win.

It's time to finally get that win here
and put those years of frustration to bed.

Would've liked to have been
to a couple of other races this year,

but it wasn't to be, so here I am.

Last-minute call.

Yeah, it's a long way
back to New Zealand.

I don't think people appreciate
how far away we are

and how far away Mitch is
from his family and things, you know?

My family's been by my side
since I started, really.

My mom always texts me,
and they watch everything.

His whole family's
so proud of him.

Everyone in my family, we all get up,
all hours of the morning and night.

Actually, we sometimes camp out
on our couch at home…

…and set alarms
and watch and go back to sleep.

It's really hard being so far away.

I do get quite anxious
and nervous and stuff.

I want him to be safe.
It's really hard, actually.

Oh! Aw, Mitch Evans
goes up and over, onto the back!

I just caught the wheel of Nick,
which actually kind of spat me up,

and then it just kept getting
worse and worse,

and then I ended up
going over the top of him.

Honestly, it happened so quick,
very hard to react to it,

and just a… really horrible feeling,
to be honest.

The dangerous side of racing,
it's always in the back of your mind,

but you can't really think about that,

because you just will be
a little bit reserved in the car,

and you just can't afford to have that.

You just kind of have to accept it,

otherwise you're just not gonna be
fulfilling your full potential.

I think, obviously, a huge influence
was my father. Like, he was racing,

my grandfather used to race as well.

And it was like, you know,
"I want to do what Dad does."

Racing is in my family,
it's in my DNA, it's in my blood system.

Every sort of trophy's
got a bit of a meaning to it,

you know, the major focus.

These are Dad's trophies,
there's not many…

…compared to the boys.

I had a bad accident, um, in '96.

So, the idea was to do
the land speed record.

Owen Evans wanted to be
the fastest man on land in New Zealand.

He got his wish when he set a new speed
of 348.48 kilometers.

It was the next race
that almost proved fatal.

Evans' Porsche 911 was clocked

at more than 300 kilometers per hour
when it crashed.

There wasn't much left of the car,
but somehow Evans survived.

My arm was severed.

I'd smashed my legs, my kneecaps,
punctured lungs… broken shoulders.

Uh, yeah, bit of a… bit of a mess.

I don't remember it.
I see all the photos and everything,

but I had my second birthday party
in the hospital with him.

Yeah, pretty dark moment
for the whole family.

It must've been tough, and I don't know
how my mother let us get into the sport,

to be honest, after the back of that.

But I'm glad that, you know,
Mom had that courage to be able to,

like, look past what happened.

It was only a couple of years
before we actually got onto karts.

So, yeah, pretty crazy,
but I think she still gets pretty nervous.

I got a first taste of driving
when I was four.

You can't race at four,
but you can race at six.

You have to start young,
and you have to work your ass off.

Since I was six,
you're sacrificing everything.

School, social life,
everything was compromised

to focus purely on driving,
practicing, racing.

There was a lot of trouble.

I know those last few years of karting
you probably only had

five weekends off a year
from karting, wasn't it?

Every decision was kind of based around
going racing or finding sponsorship.

Then the big move over to Europe
when I was 16,

leaving all my family, all my friends.

But the first year was the most difficult.

The sport is brutal, and I've seen it,

over the years,
how it can really swallow people up.

Coming into Monaco, there's no doubt
Mitch is going to obviously feel

that he's got to bounce back
from what happened in Misano.

Mitch Evans,
his worst qualifying of the season.

This is Mitch Evans, started the race
in 15th, down in 19th position.

So, it's not a total loss at this point,

but I wonder what his strategy
is going to be in this one.

I think the worst thing is if brakes fail
or something bad happens,

you're really not in control
of the car anymore. That's always scary.

We can just see Mitch Evans
has stopped on track,

who started this race
from pole position yesterday

and was looking so promising
for a possible strong result,

has come to a halt at turn nine.

My season
is getting worse and worse.

I'm leaving every race
extremely frustrated, disappointed.

Just hope my momentum can shift.

Right now, the Championship's
just getting further and further away.

Yeah, it's not looking too good right now.

I've had all sorts of bad days
and different levels of disappointment.

It's a tough sport. It's something
that we all have to deal with.

You just gotta keep finding ways
to pick yourself back up

and keep going again.

Hasn't been many good races
this year, but, um…

hopefully we can turn that around
this weekend.

It's time
for the jewel in the crown

in our Season Ten calendar, it's Monaco.
What an exciting season we've had so far.

Six different winners
from the first seven races.

And what are we in store
for this afternoon?

Well, it's anybody's guess.

Reigning World Champion, Jake Dennis,
is looking for some solid points

this afternoon if he wants
to hold on to that title.

António Félix da Costa is being outshone
by his Porsche teammate, Pascal Wehrlein.

And Mitch Evans is lagging behind
his teammate, Nick Cassidy.

Will they be competing today,
or are they going to work together?

Since Nick joined the team,
everyone's predicting a rivalry

and trying to cause a bit of tension
between us, which we laugh about,

and we obviously hope to keep it that way.

We know how strong the combination is.

We want to make history with Jaguar,
and we need to do the job.

You need that drive and that hunger,

and that whatever-it-takes mindset
to succeed in the sport.

Winning is an addictive drug,

and once you get a taste for it,
you just want more.

Into the first turn we go.
The two Jaguars slot in.

And it will be the outside run
coming in from Mitch Evans

to take over third position.

We've got attack mode
being taken straight away.

But actually,
I think that's important to highlight,

is you lose two seconds
taking attack mode earlier.

Attack mode in Formula E is used
as a tactical move to get extra power.

But to get that extra power,

you have to move away
from the conventional racing line,

so, you end up losing time.

Every driver needs to take
attack mode twice during the race.

They have to judge when to take it based
on their rivals around them

and make sure
they don't lose track position

in a way that they can't get back.

Into the tunnel we go.

Into attack mode
then goes Vandoorne.

Where's he going to emerge in relation?

Evans is going
to take the lead of the race.

Go, Mitch. Go, Mitch.

Here we go,
the battle at the sharp end of the race.

We've got Evans, Cassidy,
and Vandoorne in the mix.

They're using Cassidy to back the pack up.

I think we have two of the drivers

that are strongest at reading the race
and knowing how to race.

You work together as teammates,

and so, that knowledge bank
they build up together

has made them a very powerful combination.

Now, we're teammates,
you've both got the same suit on,

representing the same brand,
we just want this to work.

I really want this Championship
for the team.

I think, on this lap.

absolutely perfectly.

It's been three podiums
in the last three seasons,

Honestly, I've been waiting
so long for this,

even before Formula E.

And it's finally come.
It's been great teamwork with Nick.

beating everyone in a Championship,

that's some serious serotonin
going in your body.

Once you've experienced that feeling,
you don't really want it to stop,

you're just always
kind of searching for that fix,

and that's why I think it's a drug.

Well, the front wing damage cost him
the opportunity for points here today.

He's defending World Champion,
which now means

that in races where he gets zero points,
everyone's saying, "Is it over for Jake?"

I think Jake himself would say winning
the Championship is all about consistency.

And Jake's gonna
have to get on top of that.

He needs some big points to start with

to make sure this back-to-back
title challenge can become reality.

Well,

I think it's just good

She's really good at just understanding
I'm there to do a job.

She just watches the races
with her headset on.

I think even just physically being there,
Jake really enjoys having guests at races,

and when he sees familiar faces,

he just automatically
gets a bit of comfort.

Lexi's not from a motorsport background
at all, which, for me, is super important.

The race that I met Jake at

was the first-ever motorsport race
or event that I'd been to.

It helps me, just, you know,

finish my race weekend
and then come home and switch off.

But, yeah, I like that she's not involved
in motorsport.

It's a huge weekend for Formula E.

Not only is it a double-header,
but this year,

the circuit's been re-profiled,
and it's new for all our drivers

You know, coming here to Berlin,

from a team performance perspective,
we need to be up there.

We just make life so hard for ourselves
when we're starting that far back,

and even though Jake performs miracles,

we need to be doing
a better job on that one-lap pace,

so, that's the focus for this weekend.

We're looking forward
to a good day with,

and hopefully
get the Championship back on track.

It's a lot wider
compared to last year.

It's gonna be a shitshow, I think.

It’s one of the circuits,
obviously, which we don’t know.

Like, we can obviously do
all the simulator work in the world,

but it’s only really
when you get out on track

is when you really get to know
how you get on. So, we'll see.

Hopefully, we're quick, and obviously
start off and hit the ground running,

but, yeah… I'll know in about six hours.

All eyes
are on Jake Dennis right now.

We're looking at his season
under a microscope.

Can he get more podiums,
and will he be close enough

to be in the mix,
come the end of the season?

My worry is there's too much expectation
being put on him,

given the package,
and how it seems to be performing so far.

There’s a lot of points
to be had here in Berlin

and it could have a huge swing as to

where we come out of Berlin
in terms of our Championship standing.

I'll just be a bit annoyed
if we're at the back again.

Think there's definitely work to do still.

to look like absolute rookies,

and now it’s been out-qualified

and I haven’t forgot
how to drive overnight,

so, yeah, a lot of work to do
for the Andretti team.

Hopefully Norman can do something,

he's running something
quite a bit different to me,

so, hopefully he can go out there
and get top ten.

Yeah, for me right now,
it’s shambles, so, yeah.

With racing,
there's a lot of emotion going on.

Try as you might
to get everything in place,

just naturally some things
just won’t fall into place.

I do like-- surely turn one and turn two
was, like, fast?

everything else is horrendous.

It's impossible to do this.

The relationship between the driver
and the engineer

is probably the most important thing.

One of Sean's best aspects
is understanding the human side

and really understanding

what I'm going through
inside of a race car,

which I think is important.

And for us, communication flow
is very fluid,

and we work together incredibly well.

The thing for me that it comes down
to is trusting each other…

at least for myself and Jake.

I think we've got
that really good understanding…

even when we're not qualifying so well.

What is going on with Andretti?

Norman Nato, down at the bottom.
That is a shocker.

I mean, Norman's done a great job.
He's… last.

A rear row lockout
is not the way that the reigning champion

and his teammate wanted to go
into this Berlin E-Prix.

We're both last. He did a 103.1

It's fucking embarrassing.

Dennis,
he was so dominant,

and he was so strong
in qualifying last year,

and this year,
it looks like they're completely lost.

They don't know what to do.
They're searching.

It's round nine of the 2024 Berlin E-Prix.

Looking forward to seeing what is going
to happen over the course of this one.

When it comes to racing,
the mindset and experience

of Jake Dennis,
I think, will bring him forward.

For him, he hopes
it's going to be in the top ten.

we've seen him do it more than once.

You definitely need grit and determination
to fight through these bad days,

even though it's very challenging
to do that.

If you're down,
if your morale is very low,

it then just sucks the energy
out of the team.

So, it's important
that you keep the energy high,

spread it to the team.

The race, we've got a good strategy.

There's going to be a pretty chaotic race,
lots of overtaking.

I'm aiming for a top six, ideally. Um…

I mean, we've got one of the best
powertrains on the grid for efficiency,

So, yeah, I just need to try
and survive that stage

where I come from back to the front.

If I can keep my front wing clean,

then there's no reason
why I shouldn't come home

with a decent amount of points today.

Lap 36, Jake Dennis
has climbed his way up through the pack.

He was on the back row of the grid,
let's not forget,

and he's now in fourth here.

That's really, really impressive
from where he started.

If it's a really tight circuit
like Berlin,

you need to be a bit more ruthless
and get your elbows out.

If the move's on, then I'll go for it.

late on the brakes there for Dennis!

Dennis has come into
the pit lane then here,

so he must have suffered some damage.

And Jake Dennis's race has come a cropper.

It has not been
Andretti's day.

The reigning world champion,
right down at the back of the grid,

And at the start of lap 37, it looks like
he could be out of this race.

To keep that consistency
across two seasons is impossible.

Generally, we've had a bit more bad luck
this year, I would say,

with punctures
and having that front-wing damage.

We try and we fail together,
but it's not for a lack of trying.

If it doesn't go to plan
on a race weekend,

he's not a very vocal person
when he's feeling that emotion.

I'll make sure
that I just go and sit next to him,

and I think that for him
is sometimes all he needs.

I think I'm a safe place to vent to,

and if I can just be there for him
to decompress

and get everything out that he needs to,

even if I can't respond
or make it any better,

then I'll always try to do that.

When you've put in that much hard work
and that much effort

to go from basically last to fifth,

all for it to be over
by a stupid collision

in the space of a split second,
it's pretty infuriating.

You know, It's obviously
not just that moment

where it sort of slips away from you,

but all the effort
you've put in beforehand is wasted.

So, yeah…
…you just have to try and control it.

It's not like I'm gonna choose
to put you in the wall, man.

to the inside, and I'm coming with them.

but I'm sure no less excitement

Racing for Porsche in Germany
with German fans around,

our board members are going to be there,
it's an important race.

Coming into Berlin,
António has not had a good season so far.

There's so many questions
around his future.

There's been a few rumors
going around this year

that the relationship between
Florian Modlinger and da Costa

has soured somewhat.

We have discovered
that Nico Müller tested for Porsche,

which would suggest
that they are possibly looking to replace

António Félix da Costa at the team.

It's pretty unusual

to do an in-season test with a driver
from a different team, isn't it?

I don't know if it's common or unusual.

Everybody can build his own opinion.

António Félix da Costa,
he's been in all the headlines this week,

but he comes around the final corner
to win the Misano E-Prix!

It feels very much like António
doesn't have the fullest of support,

and he's struggling with that.

Racing can be utterly brutal.

There are so many case studies

that António Félix da Costa

is only too aware of.

The fans are watching
on here in Berlin

as we get ready to see
who will triumph in Tempelhof.

Competition level in Formula E
is that high and that close

that if your driver is not performing,
everything needs to be analyzed in detail.

When you're on the grid,
the pressure is very, very high.

That moment before it goes green,
all the prep of the last couple of weeks

gets down to this moment.

If they can get a happy medium
of working together

If you're winning, he's in love with you,

worrying more, having more pressure
wouldn't help anyone.

Now it needs to work out,
and if it doesn't,

reset, and do it again.

But giving up is not an option.

to get back in the running.

Da Costa, a lot of hard work
has gone on there.

He's had three dud races
at the start of the year,

found his form, and has come back.

And if he had those 25 points from Misano,

he would be
on the tail of the title fight.

I believe that Shanghai will be vital.

He should still be right in the mix.

António had a really tricky
and difficult start,

but we work together and stick together.
