a very different story of late.

The pressure is definitely

Suddenly, that huge gap
that he'd built up

over the course of the season

compared to Pascal Wehrlein

hard work that it took.

My parents put
everything on the line, financially,

and everything was quickly consumed
when we started go-karting

from a young age,
and I think it would be safe to say

my parents struggled to make ends meet.

I was aware
that it was financially difficult.

And I reckon around 11, 12,
I started to understand

that we were struggling to go.

It brought a lot of strain to the family,
and you kind of get a feeling

when your parents
are worried and having arguments.

I was very much aware of that.

I mean, when you put things
into perspective,

just for the tires and the membership,

getting to the track,
hotels, food, et cetera,

it was at least 1,500 pounds
every weekend.

It was a lot of money.

But no, we just found a way.
We found a way.

But yeah, certain bills didn't get paid,
but… so what?

We never gave in.

- No.
- Never, ever.

I unfortunately lost my dad
when I was 18,

so I never managed to pay him back.

But I was always lucky
that my parents were able to support me

as much as they could
to be able to make it.

Right that way, yeah.

The biggest fear sometimes is that…

they put everything into me
and nothing comes out of it.

I think winning a Formula E championship
would mean

an incredible amount to me and my family.

To know that I've been
through the tough times,

I've come out the other side,
and to manage to finally win,

it would be, uh…
yeah, a dream come true, really.

Shanghai was a really
mixed weekend with stupid contact.

It's important to not make the team
lose any points

or hurt the team in a way
that we would lose the championship.

Have relations between
you and António impacted Porsche's season?

Difficult to answer.

I think it can only implode

if we are unable to work together
on track in the car.

At the moment, it can go either way.

first of all, it's our home race
for the team and… and for myself.

but the Tag Heuer Porsche duo
are not going to make it easy

for the Englishman.

When I got hired
to come and race for Porsche,

I was a champion,
but I got stamped a little bit,

like the number two.

And I feel like it's been hard
to get rid of that number two stamp.

But I am third in the championship,

This is the final stretch

I think everyone's been through
breakups… …in relationships.

When it's a teammate,
there's always a tension bubbling away.

It's just whether it comes
to the surface and then it erupts.

And it clearly has done
between António and Pascal.

The ultimate goal
is to win the championship.

For the team, it's a nightmare.

I mean, trying to manage
two very different personalities

when they're literally
not looking at each other.

It's very difficult
to maintain that harmony,

and that just can't be healthy
for a sustainable relationship.

looking at initial energy targets,

getting a basis
to work on for the weekend.

Nobody is bigger than Porsche.
The brand comes first, I understand that.

But the truth is,
you have two drivers within the same team

that are two or three points apart,
so, naturally, we want to beat each other.

And I think if that's done in a fair way,

they should give us the freedom
to try and fight it out.

into the barrier

What on earth was going on there?

are at it again here.

What a disaster.

Putting da Costa
in the wall in a needless accident

is kind of pretty much unforgivable.

It goes without saying,

this is a big weekend
for you and the team.

You know, the championship is on the line,
it's a home race for the team.

But what you don't want to see

is your two drivers
coming together like that.

We have to speak with the drivers,

this is something
you don't want to see clear.

No contact between teammates.

Two teammates hitting each other
when there's no one else around them.

At the home race,
in front of board members,

guests, and partners,

it's like the ultimate cocktail
of doom, really.

Watch out, they're coming for you next!

For the other teams, it's comical.

The mistake of Pascal
running into the back of António…

clearly it's unacceptable.

For two teammates to collide is…
it's really bad.

As a team, that's the last thing
you want to happen.

So, a lot of people inside that garage
were not happy.

It was just a misunderstanding.

I wanted to overtake him
on the right-hand side

and he went to the right.

That's not something you want
in a practice session.

There's already so much tension and…

it was such an awkward situation,
to be honest.

Man, it really made me angry.

It's not been an easy season internally.

It's not healthy,
and I don't know how to deal with it.

Why can't I always
hit the ball like that?

It's the end
of a two-year healthy relationship.

Sometimes I'm like, "It's Porsche,
one of the best brands in the world,

and just shut the hell up,
deal with it and go to work."

I'm turning 33, 34 this year,

to go and do this show for somebody else.

I've been dwelling with my mind
and with my heart.

It's not easy,
and it makes me even more angry

that one single individual
is pushing me this way.

But in the end, I just want to do
what I love in a happy way, and…

I'm looking for for the future.

Welcome to the Hankook Berlin E-Prix.

It's been wet all day,

and it doesn't look like
stopping anytime soon.

Oliver Rowland has had

a terrible slump in form in recent weeks.
Can he turn the tide

to become the Formula E
World Champion this afternoon?

I didn't expect it
to be this wet.

It just seems like a bit of a lottery
in Formula E at the moment.

Like, you can come and be fast
in the rain one weekend

and then a little bit nowhere the next.

So, yeah, we'll see.

This is where we have
the most pressure to perform.

So, the feeling of anxiety and emotion
going into the race in Berlin

was one of the worst I've felt
as a racing driver.

Coming into Berlin, Oliver Rowland
has had a really bad run of form.

Slowly, Pascal Wehrlein, da Costa,

they're all starting
to creep closer to him.

And there's still
a huge amount of points up for grabs.

And nothing is done in Formula E

until you are actually crowned
world champion.

It's very simple.

I'm always fighting
for the best possible result

and for the best possible position
in a championship.

So, my approach to every race

is fight as hard as I can
and get the points in.

It's getting tight now
'cause there's only a few races left.

It's an important race for the team.
We've got board members coming.

So, you know, we got to behave
in front of those guys.

And honestly,
I just wish for a nice clean weekend

with some silverware, and that's it.

It all boils down to this.
Mitch Evans on pole position,

but can Oliver Rowland seal
his first World Championship title?

as the lights go out
and we go racing, away we go!

So, the first bits of strategy

I'm battling with myself.
I know I've got my work cut out.

Rowland's gone in
for his first attack mode

from eighth position,
so let's see what he can do.

Normally, I'm just going
for the win. But today, I'm thinking,

"Do I do what I normally do,

or do I just take some points
and minimize the deficit?"

He's going to have
a couple of corners left,

but he's not close enough.
He's going to run out of time.

He's going to run out of attack mode,
and, oh, there you go.

So, 28 laps to go then.

Rowland sits there in sixth position,
but Wehrlein is responding here.

I could see Pascal in my mirrors
and I got asked to let him go.

I'm losing points not only to my teammate,
who I want to beat,

but also… …to everybody else,
and that pissed me off.

Wehrlein attacks his teammate.
Da Costa, down into turn six.

Da Costa, does he put up a fight?
Does he try and retain that place?

Not quite.

I have to say,
the pace at the front,

particularly for Wehrlein,
has been so strong.

The green flag is going to fly.
Evans leads them.

Into attack mode goes Oliver Rowland.

So, Rowland's now got a lot of work to do.

When I knew I was nowhere,
that kind of pumped me up a bit.

Frustration and anger just took over.

I was just like, "Come on, like,
get out of the fucking way," basically.

And it's ended up being quite costly.

And is he out of the race?

What I did was just
really, really stupid.

The car's completely destroyed
on the front end.

I quickly realized
that I'm not going to finish the race.

That's not a possibility.

And… my first reaction
is to look to the TV

to see how's Pascal doing.
I knew he was towards the front.

Pascal Wehrlein
is absolutely flying here.

Watching it, it was looking good.

Wehrlein is throwing
the kitchen sink at this one.

He will close the gap on Rowland
if he can hold on here.

It's horrible
not finishing a race,

but not finishing a race

when you have something
on the line like I have,

there's no worse feeling.

Through to the final two,
three corners we go.

When I saw him in second, I was like…

I was mad, and mad at myself.

I just wanted to kind of be alone.

I wanted to smash something, to be honest.
I was so angry after that.

Finishing the race in second,
I know that I've done as good as I can.

That's the level of driving
I expect from myself

every time I'm in the car,
that I'm the fastest.

António Félix da Costa

only able to manage
a tenth-place finish here today,

meaning his title challenge is over.

I feel like
I'm not given freedom.

And when my own people
are a little bit of a handbrake to me,

then that makes things
a little bit more complicated.

And it was a pivotal moment for decisions,

at least in my mind, in my brain,
of what I want to do next.

How do you feel
when you beat António?

As I feel with beating any other driver.

- So stupid.
- It's all right.

No, don't beat yourself up.

You never do a mistake, mate. Never, ever.
Don't blame yourself too much.

The problem you have
is that people come around you

and start trying
to put their arm around you, and…

you're just not fucking interested
at that point.

You're just like, "Piss off and let me be
angry at myself for a little bit."

And that feeling
stayed for a very long time that evening.

I'm annoyed.

I feel like I've thrown away,
like, a great opportunity

to put myself within…
grasping distance of the championship.

And then, out of nowhere,
someone hit the back of the car.

I just said to myself, "Stop."

32 years ago, he awoke with a dream.

One dream to become the World Champion.
He is about to realize that.

All the stress, pressure,
years of hard work just… came out,

and I couldn't control it.

It was just pure relief.

It's been a lot of hard work.

There's been points over the last years

where I've been down in the dumps,
finishing at the back, almost quitting.

So, I think it just makes it
kind of extra special.

Honestly, I'm feeling angry
about it because…

even if the chances were super small

to get another shot

I have my targets and I have my ambitions
and I want to win, that is clear.

at Porsche for another season,

but I always have to put myself first.
