We're just over halfway
through the season,

and battles are really heating up.

The first half of this season
for Oliver Rowland

has been pure, pure dominance.

But his main rivals,
Pascal Wehrlein, da Costa,

Taylor Barnard, they're all starting
to creep closer to him.

I'm supposed to be wearing black trousers
most days.

He's a driver who's always had
lots of confidence,

but to finally get his first podium,

get that duck off his back,
I think that meant a lot for him.

To get the podium,
it's obviously a good place

to build on for the rest of the season.

The podium in Tokyo was vital,

but he still has
a lot of questions to answer.

Can he keep his cool

when the tension
and the pressure really mounts?

He has a habit of chucking
a massive tank of petrol

on the frustration
and on the disappointment.

This season, the target is constantly
performing at a high level.

And Dan's performance this year
is showing that it's doable,

but it's not a finished project.

There was a misunderstanding
between my teammate and me

in São Paulo, first race of the year.

Tthe situation is not good,
and when there is no respect,

when there is no loyalty,

it just makes it super hard for me
to be in an environment like that.

Pascal Wehrlein is starting
from the second row,

but his teammate da Costa is right down
the back in P17.

We're gonna have to get
a little bit creative today.

and we have a good car to go forwards.

I think the first time I would have
come here I would have been

eight years old.

I spent a lot of my childhood
dedicated to racing.

I grew up not really
going to school that much.

When you're never at school,
it's quite hard to build relationships.

So, I kind of got a bit left out.

As a young kid,
and then nobody's friends with you,

it's quite difficult to understand.

There's still part of me which

misses out on that kind of teenage life
that I missed.

But I would do it again and again
for a hundred times over.

It has been very wet
this morning in Shanghai.

In terms of the
Drivers' World Championship,

it's been dominated by Oliver Rowland.

Rowland's biggest rivals,
the Porsche duo,

undid themselves
with infighting yesterday.

They'll be keen to stamp that out
in this race.

shut your eyes, visualize, control."

But Dan is a guy
that needs to be occupied.

I've got a duty to the team to help get
the best performance out of him.

that my dad did for me.

for Christmas or my birthday.

basically. Paid for me to go racing.

He prepared the karts in the week.

He mechanic'd for me
on race weekends up until I was 16.

He was a good, loving, supporting dad.

But at the same time,
he was very hard on me at times,

very competitive and wouldn't allow
anything other than the best.

When I was 18 years old,
I lost my dad to a sudden heart attack.

I hadn't really experienced
that sort of loss before.

When he was no longer around,

for me it was like a really strange period
of my life where, like,

all of a sudden,
from having so much control,

I all of a sudden had no control.

I was doing whatever I wanted.

Go out with my friends and I can go out
clubbing or whatever,

you know, as an 18-year-old,
which every 18-year-old wants to do.

I think I was off the rails for like two,
three years.

I missed his discipline and, well, I just

wasn't doing what was required of a young
athlete at the time.

There was a huge sense that I was probably
one of the most talented guys,

but I was…

didn't have the work ethic with it
and I was throwing away my opportunities.

I wasn't looking after myself.
My body just started to say "No,"

and then your mind starts
to play games with you, and…

But, yeah, it's a tough journey.
I'd struggled a lot with,

like, mental health.

I had panic attacks,
been to the hospital,

thought I was dying at some points,
like… Yeah, it got quite serious.

The first time I ever experienced
a panic attack

was, like, I think a week
after my dad passed away.

Couldn't breathe, gasping for air
sort of thing. Really, really weird.

What I was thinking was that I was having
a heart attack

similar to what my dad had had.

It took a fair while for me to accept

that it was something
that was kind of in my head.

Even now, like,
I can start to feel anxious and,

you know, overthinking things.

Especially if I'm, like,
training and racing and everything,

like, I start to struggle to sleep
and then that's when things

spiral quite quickly.

I could do with one more winning

- one of that just to put there…
- Yeah.

…then it would be okay.

A selection of environmentally

or any filter of any kind.

especially when you've worked a long time

To be honest,
I'm surprised I didn't cry.

I've had three very tough years.

It's a big thing to win your first race
in Formula E.

but they managed to get it all together.

If you look back at what happened
in the last two seasons,

and we were a team
