[birds chirping]
[deep, slow breathing]
-[door opening] -[footsteps approaching]
[breathing continues]
[boy] Mom.
Mom.
Wake up.
[woman 1] Mm.
[boy] Mom.
[birds singing]
[mother breathing] What time is it?
Half past seven.
[woman 1] Oh, so late… I fell asleep working.
Don't worry.
-The kids are ready. -[woman 1] Mm.
-I'll drive them, okay? -Martina has her exam…
-[boy] It's all taken care of. -Okay, sweetheart.
Come give me a goodbye kiss?
No, Mom. It's too late. We have to go, Gustavo!
Go. I'm right behind you.
I know you'll give me a goodbye kiss, won't you? [laughs]
-[Gustavo] Bye, Mom. -[woman 1] Thank you, baby. I love you.
-[both laughing] -Okay, enough. Okay.
My handsome boy.
-[Gustavo] Bye. -[woman 1] Bye. Love you.
Gustavo!
[Gustavo] I'm coming!
[groaning] Oh, I'm sorry.
Love you kids a bunch! [sighs sleepily]
-I'll wait for you for breakfast, Gus. -Okay.
THIS STORY IS BASED ON TRUE EVENTS
[door closing]
-[thud] -[hurried footsteps]
[birds chirping]
[phone ringing]
[phone continues ringing]
-[receiver clicks] -[woman 1] Hello?
-[woman 2] Hi, Andrea. -Hi, Silvia. How's it going?
Good. Listen, do you think it'll be possible
for us to complete all the paperwork when we meet today?
[Andrea] Oh. I don't know if I have all the papers with me. Let me check.
[Silvia] That'd be perfect. We kill two birds with one stone.
It's your lucky day. I have it all here.
[Silvia] Awesome. It'd be great to get this done.
I'll call them right away so they have everything ready.
I already told them that they need to bring a photocopy of their ID and…
Basically everything. So you can see the documents.
[Andrea] Yes, sounds perfect.
Let's meet at the building entrance at 11:00, okay?
-[thud] -[men] Police!
-Get on the ground! -[Andrea] What's going on?
-[officer 1] On the ground! -Don't hurt me!
-[officer 1] Get on the ground! -[crying] No!
-Don't hurt me! -[officer 1] Shut up!
Where is Gustavo Marelo?
-Answer me! Where is Gustavo Marelo? -[Andrea] I don't know where he is!
-[heavy string music plays] -[Andrea] Don't hurt me!
-[officer 1] Where is Gustavo Marelo? -[Andrea] I don't know where he is!
[panting]
It's a mistake.
It's a mistake. My son is a saint.
You have the wrong person…
-[officer 2] Shut your mouth. -[sobs] I'm telling you.
-[car pulls up] -It's a mistake.
[officer 2] Shut your mouth.
[panting]
-Let me talk to him! -Police! Hands up!
-Hands up! -[officer 2] Stay calm!
-[officer 1] Cooperate! -[Andrea] Let me talk to my son!
-Stop! Don't hurt my son! -[officer 2] Stay still!
-Let go, motherfucker! -[officer 2] Stay still!
-Ow! -[Gustavo] Let go of me!
-[officer 1] Shut the fuck up! -Gustavo! Gustavo!
-[Gustavo] Mom! -Don't hurt him. Please! Don't take him!
-[officer 1] Stop talking! -[crying] Please, don't take him away!
[pensive string music playing]
-Excuse me. -Yes?
Where's the detention center?
[pensive music continues]
[gate clanking]
Excuse me.
-[sighing] Emilio! -Andrea.
Where is he?
They just took his deposition.
He's afraid, but he's a bit calmer right now.
-And what's the charge? -[Emilio] Theft.
-Huh? -Yes, I know it's crazy.
But right now, I need you to stay calm and listen to me closely,
because the judge won't let him go today.
He won't? Why not?
-Andrea. -Let go of me, Emilio!
[string music continues]
-Hi. Excuse me, my son is Gustavo Marelo. -[clerk] Yes.
He's the kid they just brought in. You need to let me see him now.
-[clerk] Ma'am, you can't. -This is ridiculous!
You're making a mistake. Give me my son!
-[clerk] You can't scream in here… -I'll scream if I want!
-No! -Let go of me!
I need you to leave.
What's going on here? Ma'am, lower your voice!
Your Honor. Listen to me, Your Honor.
My son is Gustavo Marelo, the kid they just brought in.
Just give me one second. Please, Your Honor.
Let her in.
Thanks.
[inhales] Listen, Your Honor, this is a big mistake.
It's impossible.
-My son would never do this. I know him. -If that's the case, he'll be alright.
Then let me take him back home. He doesn't belong in there.
No, ma'am, that's impossible.
You're not listening to what I'm telling you. Look at me!
I'm a decent person!
[phone ringing]
[tense guitar plucking]
Move. Come on.
Gustavo!
[cars honking]
-[guard 1] Get in. -Mom?
-Ma'am, what are you doing? -[Gustavo] Mom!
-[guard 1] Go. -[Gustavo] Mom!
-[guard 1] Let's go. -[door slams]
[engine starts]
[guitar plucking continues]
[pensive string music playing]
[phone ringing]
-[Andrea] Hi, Mom. -Hi, you called me?
[Andrea] I need you to pick up the kids from school.
[mom] Again?
[Andrea] Yes. I have a really busy day. Can they stay with you, please?
-[mom] Are you okay? -[Andrea] I'll explain later. Bye.
[pensive music continues]
FEDERAL PENITENTIARY
[gate closing]
-[indistinct conversation] -[gate slams]
-Excuse me. Good morning… -Get in line.
Just a second. My son was just brought in. Please, just a minute.
[woman 2] Are you deaf?
My son was just brought in. I saw him.
-But my son was just… -Get in line.
-We're all in the same situation here. -But this is a mistake.
If you want to go in early, you have to come earlier.
Please, just a minute.
-No. Get back in line. -But I just saw them take him.
[woman 2] We all got here early. Go get in line.
Please.
[somber string music playing]
THE WOMAN IN THE LINE
[indistinct radio chatter]
You can't come in today.
And why not?
You'll need to wait. You need to be on the list.
What list?
-What list? -[door slams]
I don't know anything about a list, but my son is here, and I need to see him.
-Next, please. -Are you listening to me?
My son is in there right now, and I'm not leaving until I see him!
Look, ma'am, go talk to your lawyer.
I talked to my lawyer.
-You heard her. -I've been waiting in line for two hours!
I waited. Now, tell me what list you're talking about.
You have to leave.
-Hold on, my son is in there! -Enough!
Get out of here.
[eerie music playing]
[phone ringing]
[phone continues ringing]
Hello?
[automated voice] This is a call from a correctional facility.
-[Gustavo] Mom, it's me. -How are you? Why didn't you call?
I borrowed a phone card, it's about to run out.
-God, it's all so… -Mom, it's running out.
-I'm listening. -Tomorrow is visiting day in the morning.
-From 9 a.m. to 1. I'm in ward four. -I'm writing it down.
Bring me a jacket.
-What ward are you in? -And a blanket cause I fucking…
-I'm in ward four. -What time?
-From 9 'till 1. Did you hear me? -Yes.
And please bring me food. The food here is disgusting. [beeps]
-What else do you need? -[busy signal beeping]
[doorbell rings]
Finally, you're here. Matías is so annoying.
-He hid my pencil case. -Hello, sweetheart.
[Martina] Matías, Mom's here. Give it back.
[Matías] What are you talking about?
-[Martina] Give it back, idiot. -Good morning, Mati.
Give your sister her pencil case back.
And hurry up, we're late to school.
-This young man's a handful. -[Andrea] Grab your things, we're late.
-[Martina] I'm ready. -Okay.
Come here, sweetie.
-Hi, Mom. -Hi. [kiss] Tell Gustavo to come visit.
He's forgotten about me for far too long.
Sure, I'll tell him. But you know how teenagers are.
Yeah.
Anyway, he went on a trip yesterday.
-What? What trip? -You didn't.
Yeah, he said he wanted to spend a week with his friend in Córdoba.
That moron!
He told me he'd take me to soccer on Saturday.
I'll drive you on Saturday.
-Okay, let's go. -Shotgun!
-Mom, can the kids stay with you tonight? -[Andrea's mother] Again?
[Andrea] Yes.
What aren't you telling me?
Nothing like what you're imagining.
-Come on, tell me… -Bye, Mom. Should I close the door?
No, leave it. I'll close it.
-Good morning, Juli. -Morning, Andrea.
[phone rings in background]
[exhales]
[inhales deeply]
Hi, Andrea.
[Andrea] Bárbara.
-Hi, Bárbara. -Are you okay?
-Yes, now I am. -[Bárbara] Mm.
You didn't show up, you didn't even call.
[Andrea] I know. You have no idea what happened to me.
No. I'm sure it must have been something very serious.
Yes.
I had to take my mother to the hospital.
-What happened to her? -[Andrea] I don't know.
We still don't know because they have to run a few tests.
But it was awful. Tomorrow, I won't…
I won't be able to work because I have to go to her follow-up.
Of course.
Don't worry. Everything's gonna be okay. Mm?
Take the time you need.
[Andrea] Tell me when he's getting out.
[Emilio] Listen, it's gonna be hard to get him out before trial.
Don't beat around the bush, Emilio. Give me a date.
If we're lucky, in eight or nine months.
[Andrea] What? Are you crazy?
I want him out now! Today!
Why the hell are you even a lawyer?
You can't even help me. For fuck's sake!
I'm sorry.
-I really am. -It's okay.
-Don't worry about it. -[sighs]
I'm getting used to these outbursts of yours by now.
I'm desperate. [sighs]
And I get it.
[inhales deeply]
What did Gustavo tell you?
That he's freezing cold.
And that he's hungry.
I'm seeing him tomorrow.
Listen, Andrea.
I need to ask you some questions that may seem ridiculous,
but we have to consider them.
Is it possible that Gustavo was up to something and you didn't know?
What are you saying?
Well… we need to think it through and… consider all the options.
-He's my son. -Yes.
Why wouldn't I know what he was up to?
-But… -For fuck's sake!
-What are you asking, Emilio? -Listen...
Do you realize what you're saying? That's not an option!
What you're saying is not a fucking option! Understand?
It's not an option!
[tense guitar plucking]
Do you have a warmer one by any chance?
-This one is thin. -Sure.
Don't you have one of those that seals tighter on the sides?
[clerk] You're that preppy kid's mom? The Chetito?
-The what? -The Chetito.
-No, I don't know him. -[clerk] He's a guy from the hood.
Anyway, these seal really tight. They're good for sauce too.
[woman on TV] I supported Blumberg from the beginning.
I'll be at every march for justice no matter who it's for.
You can count on that.
Hi, Andrea!
-Marian! -How's it going?
Fine. What are you doing here?
I'm seeing a dentist nearby
and thought I would walk around the old neighborhood.
Oh.
-Need a hand? -No. I got it.
Thanks.
Remember, I'm still helping out at the church.
[Marian] How could I forget. You're a saint!
Helping others, right?
Well…
Maybe we should set something up with the girls?
I'd love that, it's been ages since we met for tea or something.
[Marian] Okay. Great.
-Say hello to your mom for me. -Sure thing. Thanks.
[steps moving away]
[women chatting quietly]
[women laugh]
[emotional instrumental music playing]
[man] Next.
[woman] Next.
Please, put that here.
Leave it. Okay.
Next.
Put it here.
Here.
Hand me the other bag.
Uh…
This is too big.
-Too big. -But it's a blanket.
[man] We'll cut it.
Okay.
[man 2] Next.
[Andrea] No. Hey, don't stick the soap knife in the food.
You're new here, huh?
Here's your number.
Go that way, come on.
-[woman 1] Take off your coat. -[woman 2] Next!
Lift your clothes up.
All of em, bra too.
-[woman 2] Take your pants off… -[woman 1] Pull it down.
Pull your pants down.
Squat down.
Squat a little lower and spread your legs.
Squat lower.
-Now cough. -[Andrea coughs]
-Louder. -[Andrea coughs louder]
Next.
-[emotional string music playing] -[baby coos]
Next.
Excuse me, may I?
-No, it's taken. -Sorry?
It's taken.
[driver] We're leaving.
[somber piano music playing]
Really! I'm gonna tell him how the cops bullied me, just wait!
It's awful, they shouldn't have.
[driver] Everyone off. Be careful.
[gate opens]
[man] Let's go. Let's go.
[voices murmuring]
-What are you doing? This is my table. -[Andrea] Sorry.
-Which ones are free? -I don't know. No idea.
Take a look around.
[door slams open]
Baby!
Hi, baby.
I'm so happy to see you, baby. [gasps]
I'm so happy to see you.
-Are you okay? [sniffs] Yeah? -Don't cry, Mom.
-Okay, sorry. I'm sorry. [sniffs] -Don't cry here.
I'm just so happy to see you. [panting]
-What did you bring me? -Take a look!
Okay. Look!
I brought some home-cooked food.
You said… you said you were hungry.
Milanesas.
-Thanks. -[Andrea chokes up] I brought you clothes.
And look. I brought you…
-[chuckles] -They're really cool.
They are cool.
I bought you new ones because the other ones were all torn up.
Thanks.
I brought your… your jacket.
Emilio says we need to wait for the judge to assign charges.
And when will that be?
I don't know. [sniffs]
We just need to be patient.
Get me out of here, Mom.
I will, sweetheart. We're gonna make that happen.
I'm not gonna make it.
Yes, you are.
Look at me.
You will. You have to make it.
Do you hear me?
[Gustavo] I don't know if I can.
[emotional instrumental music playing]
[door opens]
Hey!
Honey, tell me, what's wrong?
-[sobs] -What's wrong?
I can't take it anymore. [breath trembling]
Okay, I'm right here.
[Andrea crying]
[Martina] You lied. He's not on a trip with his friends.
[sobbing] I'm sorry. I didn't know how to tell you guys.
This is terrible. How could you let something like this happen?
What the hell could I have done?
The police came charging in, broke down the door, and dragged him away.
-What could I have done? -Taken better care of him.
Shut up! For fuck's sake, Mom!
No. Don't scream.
[sobs]
You're right.
I'm sorry.
-Are you okay? -Yeah.
Are you okay?
I don't believe you.
Can't you see? She's lying to us.
-What? Are you insane? -Why are you saying that?
He's dead.
What do you mean, dead? He's not dead, Martina.
-Let go. He's dead like Dad! -Martina, he's not dead.
-Don't say things that. -No.
Your brother is in prison, but alive. Do you understand?
He is alive. You have to believe me.
-[phone rings] -[gasps]
[breathes heavily]
Hello?
[automated voice] This is a call from a correctional facility.
-[Gustavo] Hi, Mom. -Hi, honey.
How are you? How did you sleep?
Better. A bit warmer thanks to you.
[Andrea] That's great.
I miss you, Gustavo.
-Come on. -[Andrea] You have no idea. [gasps]
-[Gustavo] Mom. Don't start. -I'm not crying. I swear I'm not.
I told them last night.
-You told them what? -I told your siblings.
The fuck did you do that for, Mom?
-What did you want me to do? Lie to them? -[Gustavo] Yes!
Here. Talk.
Hello?
Hello?
Who is it?
-[Andrea] It's your brother. -[Martina] Hello?
Gus, is that you?
-There's no one there. -Hi, buddy.
Hi.
How's my favorite little buddy?
I thought you were dead.
I am.
I'm a ghost, calling you from heaven.
-Shut up, you're stupid. -[Gustavo chuckles]
Are you really in jail?
Yeah.
But I'm okay.
Don't you worry.
-I miss you. -[Gustavo] I miss you too.
[voices murmuring]
[woman] Next.
Ticket and ID.
Oranges are not allowed.
-What do you mean? -They're not allowed.
-Why aren't oranges allowed? -They're just not.
No blue clothes.
-This isn't blue. -You need to remove it still.
[man] Ravioli are not allowed.
But they're cooked. Why aren't they allowed?
-What the hell's your problem, asshole? -[man] What did you say?
-I'm asking why they're not allowed. -[man] What did you say?
[woman] Nothing, officer.
Come on, go that way. Next. Move.
Do I need to take this off as well?
[woman] Don't be a smart-ass.
[soft piano music playing]
-[Andrea] I'll bring them anyway. -[Gustavo] No.
-I said I don't want you to. -But they want to visit.
Look around you.
They're your siblings.
-Don't make this harder for me. -"Make this harder?"
You're kidding me.
-You think this is easy for them? -I'm the one in jail.
We're all right in jail with you. [huffs]
Stop it, Mom.
[Andrea] Why can't you understand that?
[woman] René!
Hey, aren't those your sneakers?
-That's how it is. It's fine. -I'm sorry?
-That's how it is. -That's how what is? [scoffs]
-[Gustavo] Mom, don't. -Hey, you!
-Hey! -Mom, come back.
-Your son has my son's sneakers. -Oh yeah? Get lost.
Your son stole my son's sneakers and I want them back.
My son didn't steal shit. What are you talking about?
-I'll rip your head off! -What?
Like hell you will!
[groaning] Stop!
[man] Stop, stop, stop, ma'am!
[Andrea] Let go of me!
Stop, stop, stop!
Let go of me! Give them back!
You goddamn thief!
-Let go! -Stop it! Look at me.
Look into my eyes and calm down.
Just breath.
-What do you think was gonna happen? -Why did you do that?
Listen to your kid, he gets it. Listen…
You need to relax and stay calm.
Okay?
You'll make things worse, for him, yeah?
-Relax. -It's okay, Mom.
Listen. Whenever they want to,
they can take away your visitor card and keep you out for months.
-Is that what you want? -No.
No, it isn't. So relax. It's alright.
It's alright. Just calm down.
-There you go. -[Andrea whimpers]
[man] You need to leave, ma'am. Do you understand?
-But… -You need to leave right now.
-Do as he says. Come on. -Go, Mom.
-Take your things and go. -Trust me.
-Stay calm. -Go.
[Andrea breathes anxiously]
[unsettling string music playing]
Hey!
Where are you headed?
Want me to give you a ride?
Uh…
-Thanks for your help back there. -Oh, it was nothing.
It's best not to get involved with what happens in there.
You know?
Because they'll get in trouble.
And then so do we.
We have enough to deal with on the outside, don't we?
He's just a little boy. It kills me to leave him there.
He's little? [laughs]
"He might be a kiddo, but those balls ain't so little,"
as my grandma would say!
[laughs] Little, my ass.
You're a funny one.
[chuckles]
-Here. Right here is good. -Okay.
Yeah. Okay.
Thanks again.
You saved me an hour and a half on the bus.
Now I'll be home in no time.
I'm Andrea.
-And you? -My name's Marta.
But they call me Twenty-Two.
-Twenty-Two? -Yeah. My lucky number.
You should play it in the lottery today. Who knows?
Maybe I brought you luck. [chuckles]
[car door closes]
Take care.
Bye.
[Matías] Mom.
-Mom, get up. -Hmm.
We're super late to school.
-What time is it? -[Matías] Mom.
What time is it?
[Matías] Mom, please.
-Mom. -He didn't call.
[Matías] Mom, it's super late already.
Why didn't he call me?
-[phone buttons beeping] -[panting]
-Mom, please, if you want, I can… -Shut up, Matías, let me think.
-[Matías] But if you want, you can… -Something happened to him. [exhales]
-Martina, get up! -[Andrea] Something's wrong.
-Hello? -Hi, Emilio. Gustavo hasn't called.
Slow down, what do you mean, he didn't call you?
Don't ask me to calm down!
He calls at seven every day and today he didn't! [gasps]
-Andrea, please… -I really fucked up yesterday.
-Hang on. -I'll kill myself.
If they did something because of me, I'll kill myself.
[Emilio] Hold on. I'll find out and call you back.
Please find out, Emilio.
[unsettling music playing]
[wind howling]
I'm sorry, I need to know if my son is okay.
Good morning to you too.
Gustavo Marelo, ward number four.
-Today isn't a visiting day. -I know it's not.
But my son didn't call, I think something is wrong.
Nothing happened, he must be okay.
I'm telling you he calls me every day and today he didn't! Please, find out.
I recommend you talk to your lawyer.
Tell me if my son is okay, for fuck's sake!
[man] Whoa! Watch your tone, ma'am! My colleague has been clear with you.
This isn't a kindergarten. Talk to your lawyer.
-Tell me my son is okay. -[man] Talk to your lawyer!
[emotional piano music playing]
[phone rings]
Yes?
[automated voice] This is a call from a correctional facility.
-[man] Hi, Andrea? -This is she. Who is this?
I'm Alejo. You don't know me.
I'm in Ezeiza, with your son.
What's happened to my son?
[Alejo] Calm down.
Mr. Emilio asked me to call you 'cause he's my lawyer too.
But how's my son? Did something happen?
[Alejo] Gustavo is okay, ma'am. Nothing happened to him.
[sobs]
Thank you so much. Thank you.
-But why hasn't he called? -[Alejo] Uh, he couldn't.
And he won't be able to call you tomorrow either.
-But you'll see him on Sunday. -But why can't he call me?
-Is he really okay? -[Alejo] He is. I swear.
He just had a small inconvenience.
-A fight. -Is he hurt? Did they hurt him?
[Alejo] Uh… nothing serious. These things happen, ma'am.
But trust me.
I swear on my daughter. Your son is okay.
-He's in confinement right now. -[sobs]
That's why he couldn't call you.
-[Andrea keeps sobbing] -[unsettling instrumental music playing]
Take it easy, ma'am.
The technician says the problem is with the engine being completely worn out.
No.
The problem isn't with the engine at all, but with the signal.
The engine works perfectly. The signal...
-Why are you making this so hard? -Ladies.
Can we take a breath?
We're all frustrated that situation isn't resolved.
Excuse me, can't the administration do something to put an end to this?
I've written down everything you said.
I think we'll need to call the technician one more time.
But why didn't this work the first time?
Does he expect us to pay him again?
He just needs to check the engine
and confirm that the problem is really coming from someplace else!
Hey! No, no, no!
That's for your brother.
-Please, Mom, just one? I'm hungry. -Just, be patient.
We'll eat in a little while.
Why are you giving me that look?
-You know the deal. -[Matías] Fine…
[Andrea's mother clears throat]
Mom? What are you doing?
-Come on. Can't you see he's jealous? -He knows better!
He has food, Gustavo doesn't.
Okay, I'll make one for Gustavo later. Problem solved.
[sighs]
You don't visit.
He'd like to see you.

[Andrea] You can keep that. Thanks.
-Let's see here. -It's cool.
[Vanina] How do I get this off?
-A little more. -[woman 1] Alright
-[Vanina] Careful with that. -[woman 1] Go.
-[Vanina] Watch your step. -[Andrea] Okay, stop. Push it.
-There. -[Vanina] Like that?
Careful with the upholstery.
-Good luck! -Does it fit or not?
-It fits. -Here we go.
-Okay. -Lift it.
Let's go.
-Careful. -Almost…
Careful with my mother's hardwood floors, or she'll kill me.
There, there. Well done. We did it!
-[laughs] Where's the kettle? -[woman 2] We're just looking.
Look at those decorations, how pretty.
-We're coming. -[woman 1] Andrea, where's the kettle?
Come, let's have some mate.
[soft music continues]
[lock rattles]

-[Alejo] Hi. -Hey.
-I brought you some pie. -Oh.
Thank you.

I sincerely apologize. This wasn't the plan.
No, I know, Emilio. Let's do this.
You talk to him and see if we can sort this out now.
And don't waste any more of my time, okay?
Okay. Give me ten minutes.
-What happened? -He won't take the deal.
What do you mean?
You have nothing to say?
Why won't you sign the deal?
Don't you realize if you sign it,
they'll go after Santillán and we can avoid the trial?
You don't get it at all, Mom.
What don't I get?
Gustavo, please, we won't get an opportunity like this again.
I said I'm handling it my own way.
I'm ready to go back now.
Don't look at him, I'll fucking kill you!
For god's sake, just sign it so we can put this nightmare behind us!
Stop busting my balls, Mom.
For the last time, this is my way.
I don't know what else to fucking say.
I'm ready.
[man 1] Was anyone here today working with you?
[tense guitar plucking]
I request that the record show that Mr. Sebastián Paredes raised his hand.
Tell me, do you know Gustavo Marelo?
Chetito. He's just a scapegoat.
He never knew what we were up to.
He would drive us around like a cab. Took us here, waited there.
Just like a cab.
A cab. That's a good one.
He was in the crew. You can't deny that.
We have video footage that proves it.
[man 2] I'm telling you, he only drove us, that's all.
He never knew what we were up to. He's a scapegoat.
[Emilio] You stated that Gustavo Marelo didn't take part
in the actions you committed.
Do you mean to say he never had any idea what you were doing?
Hell no.
He'd be one more guy to split the money with.
Now, if you'll pardon my language sir,
he would've shat himself.
No way we were going to trust some clueless kid
and put the whole crew at risk.
Mr. Pérez, do you know a man by the name of Santillán?
Who?
[judge] I'm asking if you know Eusebio Elías Santillán.
[Pérez] No, I've never heard of him.
You never saw any suspicious behavior when they got in the car?
No… not at all.
They were always in a hurry,
but I never thought they were running away at all.
No idea.
That's why I never understood why I was the one who was arrested.
[judge] Mr. Marelo,
do you know a man
by the name of Eusebio Elías Santillán?
No.
I've never heard of him.
[music intensifies]
[throws up]
[faucet runs]

to sentence Gustavo Marelo,
alias ' "Chetito,"
whose remaining personal details are recorded in the case file,

Forgive me, members of the court,
given that your ruling specifies a suspended sentence for my client,
who has no prior criminal record,
may I request that you send him home.
[whispers] Everything seems to be in order.
Do you have any objections?
I understand.
Any objections?
-We'll get it ready. -[breathes nervously]
It is our opinion the defense counsel is correct,
the court hereby orders the immediate release of Gustavo Marelo,
effective from close of these proceedings.
[gasping]
Let it be recorded in the minutes, Madam Clerk.
That is all.
[emotional string music playing]
-[Emilio] Gustavo. You can go home now. -[Gustavo] Thank you.
[laughs]
It's over! [sobs]
-It's over, baby. -[Gustavo] It's over.
-Everything's gonna be okay. I promise. -It's over. [panting]
It's over.
-[grandmother] I missed you. -[Gustavo] I missed you too.
[Matías] Hi, Gus!
-[Gustavo] Hi. -[Martina] Hi!
[Gustavo] Buddy. My little champ.
[phone rings]
-How are you? -[Matías] Good.
-[phone continues ringing] -Hello?
[automated voice] This is a call from a correctional facility.
[phone beeps]
[Alejo] Hi.
Hello, Ale, did you hear?
[Alejo] Of course, that's why I'm calling.
Congratulations to you all. [chuckles]
[Andrea] Thank you.
And thank you so much for what you've done for him.
No, don't thank me.
And after everything you've given back to me, I'm in your debt.
[laughs] Don't be silly.
Andrea, look, I'm calling to say goodbye.
What?
[Alejo] Yes, you shouldn't come back here.
It's better this way, trust me.
You need to let this go.
Besides, you have a life to get back to, right?
Let what go? I don't get it.
I'm setting you free.
Alright?
And thank you so much for what you've done with my daughter.
I hope you all have a wonderful life. Bye.
Wait, wait!
[emotional piano music playing]
-[Andrea] This is delicious, Mom. -[Gustavo] Best I ever had.
Next time, Andrea is cooking.
[Andrea] I think Gustavo should cook
to thank us for all the food we brought him.
[Andrea laughs] You know how it is.
If you don't know anything, you're going to tell me?
