We were born in the same hospital.

We first met in high school.

and party with me on this boat.

Just randomly. And I was like, okay, she likes me.

So then we had our first date halfway in Waco.

And from then we were doing the long distance thing for about a year. We have

been married for three and a half years.

We got married on 2 -22 -22, which was a Tuesday.

At 2 p .m.

Lots of Tuesdays.

We decided on a whim. I saw a Facebook meme that stated that 2 -22 -22 was

to be on a Tuesday, and I geeked out.

And so in January of 2022, I said, hey, do you want to... Do you want to get

married on 2 -22 -22?

And he said, yep.

So put it all together real fast and got married in our hometown.

Yep.

I thought it was just going to be like a justice of the peace kind of real fast

thing. And she's like, no, no, I want a wedding dress and a little bit of

family. We had talked about getting engaged after he had finished paying off

car. And he had not done that yet. But we were headed to my grandparents' lake

house for Mother's Day.

And so my brother and sister -in -law were going to be there, my mom, my

grandparents.

And he got my brother in on it to go take family pictures out by the

lake. And then on the very last picture of the two of us together, he held onto

my hand, got down on one knee, and made some comment about his weird matches my

weird, and that he wants to be with me forever.

So I know this is a big deal for us.

Now I'm up there.

Anyone I had ever dated, I felt like I had to put on this front of being more

cool than I am.

And I like dad jokes.

But we had to. It's part of it.

This is our first relationship where either of us have ventured out in any

capacity with being with other people.

I didn't know that...

Their lifestyle and being open was even an option.

And so I believe that people are programmed to be a certain way. And I

non -monogamy isn't for everyone, and some people really are wired to be with

one person.

But through many failed relationships, I've discovered that I am

not wired to be monogamous.

And that doesn't necessarily mean that I don't love that person that I'm with. I

learned the hard way that my brain just doesn't work like that. I like variety.

And so when we started out in the swinging lifestyle, it was a little bit

used to at first for me because it was just, I was wired.

when that's all you know and you think that that's your only option that's what

It had never really been on my radar to even think that another man was

somehow more attractive than the man I was with. But we all know that's usually

there's someone else out there. I mean, Brian Reynolds exists.

And so for me, previously, it had been women.

you know, a little making out here and there.

So I'd mostly experimented with that a little bit. I had been in so many

relationships where men were very jealous and possessive that it didn't

occur to me that there was a man out there who would be like, oh, you like

guy? Go get his number.

So we had been dating long distance and...

She moved up in October of 2020, and we got a two -bedroom apartment together.

And our wonderful governor had closed down all of the bars that served alcohol

in all the clubs because of COVID.

And so since everything was closed down...

We were kind of getting cabin fever. We wanted to go out, have a good time, get

dressed up. And so in November, I got online and I found a club that was able

be open because they didn't serve alcohol. You brought your own alcohol.

BYOB.

And it was the only place that I could find that we could go dancing and have a

good time.

And so I showed it to her and I told her it's a swingers club because we're

totally vanilla.

And so like worst case scenario, we go.

We drink, we dance, and we people watch.

We love people watching, you know, because this is a whole new world for

And we get there and probably drank a little too much.

But we were downstairs, and she comes out of the bathroom, and she's like,

we've got to go upstairs. I made a friend in the bathroom, as women do, I

And so we went upstairs, and I'm sitting there, sitting on the couch, talking to

this guy, her husband. And I look over, and she's straddling this woman, giving

So that was kind of her first experience.

Meeting a lot of great people. We've met some of our best friends,

lifelong friends in the lifestyle.

I would go as far as to say almost all of our friends are now in the lifestyle.

We did not start this as a way to fill holes in our relationship, pun intended.

as a way to just kind of enhance it.

I don't think a lot of people realize the communication it takes to be able to

do this and to enjoy it and not end up with your feelings hurt. I had to work

through a lot of things, just kind of rewire myself, I guess, so to speak, to

know that he really does care about me and that he enjoys.

having a good time not just with me but with other people, and I can enjoy that

with other people too. We have date nights with our partners, our second

significant others, and so in between that it kind of helps you realize the

special bond that you do have with your primary partner, my husband, and that

they complete that piece of you that you initially wanted when you got married.

I think I mentioned we have other partners. I met my boyfriend, as I like

We met at a conference for personal trainers and hit it off,

but he knew I was married because I talked about being married. I went home

told this guy, I was like, I met this really hot guy.

it was just very casual at first. And he was like, I thought you were married.

And then I was like, yes, I'm happily married. But here are all the things.

you only told me you were married. You didn't tell me that you're having sex

And so once I gave him all that information, he decided he wanted to go

date with me. And we are coming up on a year.

And then he and his girlfriend met.

We just met on a dating app, but she.

She's been divorced for almost a year and a half, I think.

But she's just not looking to be in a relationship with someone who is ever

going to want to go to that next step. And so she got on there looking for a

married guy who isn't going to want to get married and go buy a

And so we have a schedule.

Very important. It is very important. So he'll come over to our house on

Wednesday nights and Saturday nights, and then I'll go over to her house on

Wednesday nights and Saturday nights.

And that's what works for us.

Occasionally, we'll also all hang out together.

Two weekends ago.

We went to a pool party, all four of us, and got a hotel.

One room, but two beds.

And we went to the semi -lifestyle adjacent pool party all together and

went back to the hotel.

Yep. As far as advice for other couples who are looking to get into the

big.

If you're not great at it now, this can help a little bit because it helped me,

but you have to be willing to put in the work to do it.

But you've got to do the work to put yourself out there a little bit too.

I would even say if you're not even ready to go to a club or a resort or get

a website yet and actually meet people, listening to podcasts actually helped us

a whole lot too. With any kind of open relationship, there's going to be some

jealous feelings that you're going to have to work through. And listening to

podcasts was it.

It helped us kind of work through learning that jealousy comes from your

fears that you have.

And I knew that I had this feeling, but...

I was able to put a word to it, but compersion is the opposite of jealousy.

So the way that I try to explain it to couples who ask us about it is, you

that feeling that you get when you buy somebody a gift and you're super excited

to give them this gift and you know they're going to love it even though

not getting anything out of it in return.

It's totally for them.

That feeling that you have, that's compersion.

And so that translates to, I know that...

When she's with somebody else, you know, she's happy. She's enjoying herself.

She's getting that pleasure, even though I'm not necessarily at that moment. But

I'm just happy for her, you know, getting that experience and having those

And that makes me happy.
