Not every day you're lifting

a chicken coop over the trees.

I moved about forty feet not even, now I'm stuck.

That's how an artist works. This is my blank canvas.

Oh wow, look at this.

Is this a house or a chicken coop?

I'm Randy Spracklin. Third generation builder,

proud Newfoundlander!

My team and I are building on one giant cliff

in the Atlantic Ocean.

They don't call it the rock for nothing!

We fight the elements year-round to get the job done.

It might be tough for some, but not for us.

Because when this is your view, it's worth it.

It's a perfect day in Brigus, and a perfect time to stop by

and see Matt on his day off!

In the shop, Matt's best kind.

I throw a lot of things at him to build.

But today, I need to tap into his farming skills.

We're building a deluxe chicken coop for Lynette.

I've been wanting chickens for a few years now so...

She wants it to look like an old fishing stage, with lots of colour.

So the foundation will be made of logs.

The floor and walls are made like any house we build,

but the doors and windows will have an old-time feel.

We'll put a deck on the front, a ramp on the back,

and we'll fence it in to keep the chickens safe.

We're building the coop off site, but on site in Mobile,

the log foundation is done.

Nobody got the vision like Spracklin got the vision.

Looks damn good!

And at the shop in Brigus, the coop is taking shape.

Framing a coop is pretty well the same as framing a house.

We're experts at building houses for people,

but not so much for chickens.

Got to see if my design ideas are as practical

as they are catty.

So I'm here at Matt's barn to have a look at the chickens,

but I got a parade for goats.

We're building a chicken coop and I knows nothing

about chickens. I knows nothing about goats.

But we're gonna learn about 'em.

Heya, Matt. Whadda ya got goin' on here?

Got a few chickens now and a few goats now.

Hobby farm for me and the young fella.

And I see you got a kitty cat.

There she is. Little Sassy.

That's what I know more about. Cats than goats.

As you know, we're doin' the luxury chicken coop.

Figure out what you got on the go here.

It's not as fancy of a coop as what we got

buildin' into the shop, but it'll give you the purpose, for sure.

Yeah, you wanna have a look? How many chickens you got?

I got about 15 chickens there at the moment.

Yes, b'y. And they all lays eggs?

Not all of 'em. Some of 'em are boys.

Oh, is it? Oh, well, I guess you need that, too.

It's pretty basic.

You got your basic feeder here.

Same thing with the waterer, five-gallon waterer.

So them sticks, that's what they kinda walk on?

Yeah, these are their roosts. This is where they get up and sleep.

Oh, okay. So what's on the ground?

That's old sawdust. I gets a lot of it,

actually, from the wood shop.

Oh, yes, b'y.

Yeah, it's good for 'em, for fresh bedding.

They like to get in it and fluff around.

When you shovel it out, my neighbours love me around here.

They use it all for the gardens and they...

they grow big vegetables.

It's a great use of repurposing the shavings from the wood shop.

It's a win-win for you and me.

And then outside is always left open?

I close it up in the nighttime

so no predator can get in at 'em.

Most of the time, if the gate is open, then they're free rangin'.

And then the boxes is for...?

These are egg boxes over here.

There's a chicken in there, actually, having a lay.

Out she comes, a couple eggs underneath.

They're all gonna run outside now.

Come out here now and we'll check out the outside coop.

They're a little bit nervous. They're unsure of you.

Yeah, I would say.

This is me little rooster here,

that little colourful guy in there.

I have many different breeds of chickens here.

So why do you like chickens?

Ever since I was a little boy,

my dad always had chickens, fresh eggs.

There's nothin' else like it.

- Yes, b'y. - Yeah.

I guess if you like it, you like it.

Yeah. And it's just... it's more of a hobby thing.

Something I like to do.

Ramp is for the chickens to get in and out.

We kinda got the same concept of the one

that we're doin' in there, ramp, doorways.

Yeah. And the biggest thing is birds of prey and predators,

such as foxes and stuff. You wanna try to keep them out.

They can annihilate your coop pretty quick.

- I would say. Yeah. - Yeah.

Cat is definitely not a predator.

He's more of a friend to 'em.

Just wants to be everywhere everybody is all the time.

Definitely a great spot to get inspired. You know,

goats, chickens goin' around. And he got a good setup in the barn.

Places where they lay the eggs,

how they need bars goin' across to sleep on.

You know, doors to get outside.

Bring on the chickens.

Gonna be an exciting build, for sure.

Next we'll build a goat shed.

There you go. And donate it to me.

The chicken coop isn't the only challenging job we've got on the go.

Over in North River, we started a really big two-parter

of a project for Sasha's long-time friends.

- Concrete's here! - Truck number two.

The first part was adding a large gazebo to their deck

for a killer view of the river, and it turned out mint!

Oh, my goodness.

Oh, just look!

On the other side of the house, the hard work's just starting,

and the bar's set high to create space for a large family kitchen.

And if that's not enough to keep us busy,

I've lined up a fun project in Bay Roberts.

I need to lock in the plans

so I can bring in the machines and start digging.

Bay Roberts is where we come to get everything.

This is where we get our building supplies, our groceries.

We do a lot of work in Bay Roberts, as well.

You know, the church is over here.

My biggest worry today is the wind and the sway.

The barn's over here.

I love it.

So where we're to right now,

just around the corner is actually Mad Rocks.

Mad Rocks is a place where you go sit down, you know,

you watch the ocean and if the storm is comin',

the waves are massive.

It's a go-to.

I'm meeting with Ashley and Kaitlyn.

Their father is moving back to Newfoundland

and they want this place to be perfect.

I'm gonna build an artist pod,

plus we gotta build a path to get out to it.

And look... next to the ocean. Bring out my toys!

So you got big plans?

We do. We have some fairly big plans

for the back of this spectacular property.

Our father and stepmom actually own this property.

He is retiring, so we're helping to prepare the property

for them before their arrival

It's a beautiful property and I think, you know,

with Randy's touch, it's gonna be even better.

Looking for a place we can gather as a family

and take in the stars at night, as well.

Oh, nice. Well, perfect place to look at the view.

I'm sure you sees the whales comin' in.

You do. Our father really loves to paint.

He paints landscape. - Oh, okay.

So he'll look forward to using the artist pod

which takes in a panoramic view of the water.

This is a large project.

Starting with the patio, it'll have a custom

stamped-concrete finish throughout,

a separate sitting area, a fire pit, and a hot tub.

Then we'll create a winding path from the patio to the cliff,

creating natural burms along the way.

It will lead to the ultimate retreat:

An A-frame building we're calling the Artist Pod.

It'll have a glass wraparound deck,

floor to ceiling windows to let in loads of light.

On the inside, it'll have lots of seating and plenty of space

to paint and get inspired looking out over the ocean.

The budget for this one, all in, was 80 grand.

The timeline for this...

it's open-ended.

When the fishin' stops.

So we'll come off the patio, probably walk up through here.

You're getting a nice view as you start going up.

And look, we got a little brook.

We do. So there may be some digging that's needed here.

You can see the water building up.

And then, boom, we're gonna have the artist pod right here

and look at the view you've got.

- What an inspiration. - It is.

We're gonna have the front of it here with a deck

wrapping around, so you're able to sit down,

'cause the sun rises over

and actually goes down over the church. So...

- It does. - Sun all day.

We're looking to not obstruct the view from the house,

but to have a large enough space that the family

can come out and enjoy both inside and outside

on the patio, as well.

So for the inside, do you have any ideas?

- I think just surprise us. - Oh, really?

- Yeah. - Okay. Leave it all up to me?

Yeah.

Oh, that was my calling. I gotta go to work.

Okay!

The biggest challenge for us is gonna be, is wind.

As you see, it's windy right now, so we're laying

material on the edge on this cliff.

Don't wanna send someone out in a boat to pick it all up.

Good thing it's wood. It'll float.

So I'm in Bay Roberts here now.

Got my shiny mini, getting ready to see if we can make a path.

Let's go diggin'.

This project seems straight forward,

but lugging tools and materials way out to the cliff is misery!

So I got to make the path first,

for easy access when we start building.

Not off to a very good start. A lotta rocks.

But at least I can move 'em.

If I find a rock that I can't move,

it'll become a feature.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

There's no really plan, just kinda make it natural.

So I'm just gonna wing it.

I gotta figure out this ditch situation.

This path is gonna come and it's gonna cross on one of these points,

but I want to dig out the ditch to find out what point I'm gonna use.

Now it's gonna get boggy!

I don't know how mucky or deep it is,

so I don't wanna swamp this the first day.

But you never know. Blegh...

Man-oh-man!

As it keeps growin', the grass,

it'll clog up the ditch.

So I'll dig out the old grass, so that way then you got a free-flowing stream.

Should've brought a boat.

Look at the water run.

Good first day. Ditch is done.

Off to the next step, tryin' to figure out

where I'm gonna take that path and just how I'm gonna get from here to there.

Come across, 'cause we gotta build a little bridge.

Brr... out here is freezin'! So I'm getting back in.

The best part is I'm sitting down,

got my country tunes and it's nice and warm.

In Bay Roberts, it's just me and my machine,

and a whole lot of digging.

I got the path done with a little bit of grade.

So now we gotta figure out what we're gonna put on top of it

and then the path is done.

Went pretty smooth, to be honest with you.

A little bit too smooth.

Now it's time to prep for the patio.

This large outdoor space will have a custom

stamped-concrete finish, with areas for seating,

a hot tub, and a fire pit.

It'll have loads of room for family visits.

We gotta dig it out to get the solid ground and bring in good rock

so we can pour the concrete.

Time is of the essence. I gotta dump truck comin'

to fill back in with blasted rock.

Diggin' here at Bay Roberts is really known for bad fill,

so that's why you gotta dig it out and put in good.

It looks good when it's dry,

but when it's wet, it goes really puggy.

Really soft. You'll sink to your knees.

Newfoundland's quicksand.

Have your ducky boots on.

So he's here. Dump it in the hole.

Then we're good to go.

So this is the first load.

We're gonna need four or five to get it done.

Uh-oh. He got stuck!

Holy , that's puggy as !

Bay Roberts ground.

Yeah, she's not gonna go back.

Well, , dump it.

Where the ground, like I say, is puggy,

as you see in the sun,

so the only way to actually get out of it is lighten the load,

which he had to dump 'er right there and...

well, 20 feet too short.

Now I gotta push it and dig it.

More work for me. Darn.

Whoa!

Don't want to flip her on the turns.

I'll get it done today.

If they can get me the fill, I'll get it done.

Back in Brigus, Lynette's deluxe chicken coop is right on track.

Today is a lot of stuff goin' on in the backyard of the wood shop.

This is where we're buildin' the chicken coop.

Got Al, Holly, Nikki and Michael.

The goal today is to get as much done.

You know, get the eaves on, get the clapboard started,

get the roof started.

- Holly? - Yeah.

- Come here. - Comin'.

You know how to do a 4/12 cut?

No.

Hey, you go ahead and put

the 4/12 cut on it.

- Good for 19? - Yeah.

My ultimate goal was to be able to take some knowledge

and show other people, especially women.

And to have Holly on site to be able to show

some of the tricks of the trade...

Is that the centre on the eave?

...it's a pretty good feeling knowing that

you've worked your way to that part.

Nikki's teaching me how to do the eave board.

We're gonna do some shingling.

I've never shingled anything yet.

While the coop work outside is moving along,

Matt's love of chickens and carpentry

is a winning combo for the detail work inside.

P.J.'s over here making the doors now as we speak.

All T&G, old-style storm doors.

They got some nice egg hatches

to access the nest boxes from outside.

They also have another poop door on the other side

where they have a tray they can haul out and dump from under their roosts.

It's a cool little design for a coop.

This is the little door the chickens are going to go in and out to.

These windows here are gonna be sliders.

It matches the old-style fishing stage,

just kinda goes more with the build than newer vinyl windows.

Back outside, Patrick the electrician

is wiring up for the lights, because the chickens

won't give a five-star review if they don't have lights.

And on the exterior, Harv's putting on the clapboard.

We're doin' a four-inch course here right now.

Four-inch course is distance between each clapboard.

It's been like that for generations.

A fishing stage always had a four-inch course.

It's comin'. Slowly.

A little extravagant for a few chickens,

but as Mom would say, whatever floats their boat.

We usually rig up a little jig.

Mainlanders would probably call it a gauge.

Around here we call it the jig. So...

It just beats takin' the tape out every single time

measuring each course. It's perfect, because it...

I mean, each course is exactly the same.

Makes life easier. So... simple little thing like that.

This little thing ain't very big,

but the more windows, the more doors, everything...

I mean, everything gotta be cut around it.

Everything just takes more time.

Apparently, these two little hatches got something to do with...

a poopy little thing or something like that.

I won't say what it really...

but it's the .

It's the hole right here. I mean,

stuff is apparently supposed to come out through there. So...

Well, that's one half of your corner.

Well, as we're goin', we gotta do clapboard.

But the big challenge now, Harv gotta go breakin' metal.

I'm gonna bend some drip edge for our windows for our chicken coop.

We usually got nice little benches to put the break on.

Nope, they're not here. The b'ys got that gone.

So... this is our salter box right here we have during the winter.

Hey... tailgate of the truck. Whatever works.

See? That's all we're lookin' for.

So we just got a call from Russ and...

a little bit of bad news.

His wife, Lynnette,

the one we're building the chicken coop for,

just had to go to the hospital suffering from a brain aneurism.

Russ is stayin' positive, he wants us to keep going.

You know, when anything like this happens,

you gotta stay positive.

And Lynnette been dreaming about this for years,

so we just gotta make sure the chicken coop is done.

In Bay Roberts today,

things are going well, despite the puggy ground.

Got the patio all dug out, big rock put in.

The next step is really go out to the pod, get the posts in.

So I got T.J. here to give me a hand.

He's actually gonna frame it up for us, so it's a win-win.

I'll be on the controls and he'll be on the wood.

T.J. used to work with us eight years ago,

six years ago. I don't know. Time flies.

Anyway, we knew each other growin' up.

We went to high school together and... great carpenter,

so I managed to talk him into get his own thing on the go,

so here he is. Best kind. Give us a hand.

I hardly trust you with a hammer.

It's a lot bigger than a hammer.

I could pick your teeth if I had a toothpick.

Yeah, I'd have to pick 'em off the ground.

This is a hard time for construction.

On top of supply shortages,

we're short on labour too.

Not that I don't trust ya. But I just don't trust ya.

There's a shortage right across the board,

so to be able to get someone to give us a hand makes

us be able to move that project along.

One down, five more to go.

- This way. - The other way.

- Yeah. - It's over 20 years now.

Jeez... that's how long we been outta school?

We're older than you thinks, buddy.

And Melissa, I've known her since kindergarten, so...

Time flies when you're havin' fun.

Shoulda warned her about you.

Lots of funny stories to tell you,

but it's not fit for TV.

I don't think he changed a big lot.

Maybe got a little louder, a little more foolish.

But not much. Usually people calms down.

I think he went the other way.

My favourite subject was probably art.

So the pod is gonna be...

10 by 16 all glass in the front with peaked roof,

and then it's gonna be an L-shaped deck wrapping around it.

And then there's gonna be a window on the side

and garden doors on the other side.

And inside, we're gonna leave that to Sam and Sasha.

You know, I could probably design the inside.

They're razzin' me about all these fancy dancy colours that they got.

So it's green, white...

It's not just green, it's not just white.

Sure Randy, we'll go along with that. That's fine.

Yeah.

I think it's only one straight colour.

Green is green, blue is blue.

So what we're tryin' to do

is not have it too high off the ground.

Me and T.J. got the posts in...

ready to actually start buildin' the floor.

The lumber is here. Try to get it out there.

We don't really wanna carry it, so the skidsteer

is ten times easier than lugging every piece.

We'd have a day's work just lugging out wood.

But T.J.'s had to go to another job site, leaving me all alone.

So I decided to bring the lumber out to the site.

And I moved about 40 feet,

not even, and now I'm stuck.

Love Bay Roberts ground.

This is what Bay Roberts ground is known for.

It's all muck, it's all boggy.

If this was dry, it's like concrete.

And then once it gets a little bit wet,

where this is a low point, mud cakes. Ugh...

I just knows I'm not gettin' all that out there.

Problem is I had to do a lotta work here,

and then I had another couple of jobs.

So now I'm really gonna pivot.

And right now, I'm makin' mud cakes.

Down in Bay Roberts, I'm all alone

and the boggy ground swallowed my skidsteer.

Look at the mud into that. Ahh...

I might be stuck in the mud, but I'm still quick on my feet.

I'm all by myself, but hey...

That's one thing good about havin' a film crew followin' ya.

Always extra hands to help. In a time like this.

So basically, this is just forward and back, right and left.

I'm gonna try to push on the bucket.

So I thought maybe I can use the front end of the skidsteer

and just get the wheels out of the mud,

and then at the same time we both thought,

oh, maybe we can get something under the wheels now.

What's the worst could happen?

Once you figure out a solution,

you don't mind gettin' in the problems.

Back in Brigus, it's time for some major heavy lifting.

After the bad news about Lynette's health last week,

we got some good news from Russ.

Lynette's on the mend, so Russ wants

her dream chicken coop finished as planned.

So today, we're gonna load the chicken coop,

gettin' it ready to go to Mobile.

Just like we did with Allie's playhouse.

It was a tight squeeze.

We only had like three quarters of an inch.

So this time I wanted a little bit more room.

But Harvey and them added three inches,

'cause they kinda put it on the wrong side there.

We had it six feet, but they went six feet plus three.

Note to self: Tell Harvey smaller.

Yeah, moment of truth.

Inch and a half.

I got an inch and a half to spare,

so three quarters on either side.

I would've had four and a half inches to spare.

Two and a quarter on either side.

Now I got three quarters.

Yeah. Lift a little more.

Push. Oh...

Hold it!

Come out slow.

Come on.

Come on!

Worst thing about it, too,

the ground is all wonky.

No, I'm gonna spin.

Wonder if I just give 'er a little...

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up.

Oh, .

I say leave 'er where she's at.

I'd say we're pretty well good there now.

Lookin' pretty!

Faster than the other one.

So it wasn't by luck, it was skill.

Practice makes perfect?

Couple of little scrapes, but that's minor.

Just gotta strap it down and off to the races.

The drive to Mobile isn't a smooth one.

Hopefully, this bumpy drive doesn't mess up this 5-star coop.

We made it, safe and sound.

The big thing today is get the chicken coop

from the trailer to the landing.

We got a big boom truck comin' by.

We're gonna put two straps around it, lift it up, and lay it in place.

Kinda like we did with the beams at Petty Harbour.

Only this time it's gonna be a chicken coop.

We got all the wood, because once the coop

is laid in place, we gotta build a pen,

place where they're all caged in.

Then we need a step to get down from the front door.

We got the logs to build a ramp,

so it's still look like the old fishing stage

and, you know, the ramp to get to the stage.

We're gonna apply the tips that we learned from Matt.

So... I got it all up here.

Think like a chicken.

This is the thing, when we don't have a fully blueprinted plan.

It's all here. We'll figure it out as it goes.

There's really no other way.

Well, you could probably wing it and try to drive a truck down there.

But hey, we got the flight path all mapped out.

What's the worst can happen?

We buzz the tower. Or buzz the coop.

And there she goes!

Not every day you're buildin' a chicken coop.

Not every day you're liftin' it over the trees.

You know, the locals... I'm sure they're gonna say,

"Why are they buildin' a stage on land?

Where's the water?"

In that boom truck, he actually got a scale,

so when it picks up, he knows how it weigh.

Four thousand pounds. It's pretty heavy.

We wasn't gonna lift it down here, let's just say that.

But he's good at operating 'er, though, what?

Hardly gotta touch it.

And it's down. Big first step.

I was just nervous that we thought we were gonna

say we were gonna use it as a tree ornament

instead of a chicken coop.

Right there now we gotta build a ramp for the chickens

to be able to get out of the coop.

So here's the plan.

That's two two-by-eights and a two-by-ten down over.

Then we gotta build a little deck to be able to get up in the coop.

We gotta build a deck here. - Yup.

So this is the post. - Yup.

Comin' out about three, four feet, enough to get on.

So you wanna to go three or four?

Probably three feet is... is good.

- Right on. - If you're like Harvey,

you can add on three inches.

Then we gotta build a pen

so the chickens don't get outside.

Wanna hand me up that window?

- Yup. - Put in the windows,

a little bit of trim, mulch over the ground.

It's about 20 things there now we gotta finish.

I gotta run and get some more material for the other job site.

Paul and Holly's gonna be there.

As far as they can get today, 'cause we're coming back tomorrow.

Haven't really got too much of a plan.

Randy's vision will be alive before you know it.

We're in Bay Roberts, ready to start building the Artist Pod.

Today is a big day. Got Teej and his buddy out framin' up the pod.

Then I got Harv and Holly here with me today

to try to get the material out there.

My biggest goal is to get the material out there,

because this pad is a little bit soft,

hence why I wanted extra labour,

just in case we had to hand bomb it all.

So hopefully, we can work the machinery

and get it out there.

Tangly old spot, this is.

And then the b'ys can actually get it all framed up.

That's their goal today.

My plan right now is I can get so far with the lumber.

And then I'll put it on the excavator and bring it out.

So it's a little bit of hand bombing,

but it's a lot better than walking the whole way.

Randy has a lotta good plans, but they don't always pan out.

He been like that ever since I've known him in high school.

Trying to make it up so far, but hopefully I don't sink.

Made it that far, anyway.

I figure I'll load down the excavator,

then Harv can come back and forth.

- Yeah. - Maybe.

There's a will, there's a way.

It's like a cow on ice!

Might have to use an alternate route

to kinda go straight, but hey,

I'm only gonna break down the grass. It'll all grow back.

Just get someone out there fluffin' it up.

Maybe that's what the designers'll do... fluff the grass.

The green grass, right? They love the colour green.

So there's many greens in the grass.

So we made it up with the first load,

so the b'ys got enough to start the floor joists.

Now we got a lotta...

too many loads.

But we are saving on time,

our backs, and I didn't get stuck!

Triple win-win in my books.

Randy came through. Don't always happen,

but his plan actually came through today, so...

That's always a good day.

I was expecting to lose a few loads comin' out

but done good. Impressed.

Got a dance floor anyway. Maybe we'll have a party.

Back down in Mobile, the coop's in place,

and we just got a few odd jobs before the chickens can check in.

It's gonna be me, Holly, Nikki, Paul.

Basically, we're in the home stretch, so we gotta finish off the inside

with a little bit of trim, finish off this wall,

get the pathway done, topsoil spread,

mulch spread, gravel, cage.

Thank you. I'll take another one, six feet.

The homeowners wanted to build this wall,

because they didn't want no steep banks be mowin'.

Try and keep things nice and simple, low maintenance.

So nothin' says you can't dress it up, though,

make it look good while you're at it.

Makin' a pointy end on the stick

so we can drive it in the ground.

This'll be a railing going down over the pathway,

so no one'll fall overboard.

You're gonna hold that where I'm gonna pick them.

Don't put your hands on top of it.

You'll lose your fingers.

I'm pretty steady. - Okay.

All right, you can let go there now.

Nothing to worry about. What's the worst can happen?

That way a little bit. He should be good.

I can't tell if Randy is being truthful

that my bag is buried underneath all this gravel.

Randy likes to play practical jokes.

I hope that he's joking, but I'm not sure, honestly.

I did have to move it, though.

Could have been under there.

So we got road gravel, and that's gonna be the pathway

gettin' to the coop.

Inside the coop, because the chickens need to chew on kinda help them digest.

Then we got topsoil that'll dress out the sides,

then we got mulch that'll be down around the coop.

It's so nice to sit here in the background and watch all

the boys do the manual labour.

Just tryin' to get the last bit of paintin' in the trim put on,

just to add the finished touch to the insides

of the chicken coop.

This is my Zen mode, phone not ringing.

Makes it look pretty. Final touches.

Lynette's vision was to build a luxury

of all luxury chicken coops,

but she got sick just as we got the foundation in.

She's doin' well and we're hopin' to see her very soon.

Knowin' that she's in the hospital,

excited to come home and see it, is definitely motivates you

a bit more, in my opinion.

Just imagine how great the surprise is gonna be,

not knowin' anything,

and she's gonna come in and she's gonna have that giant wow moment.

It's gonna boost her spirits.

Lynette would love to be here,

but Russ is gonna take the reins

and we're gonna show him and he's gonna have to look

after them chickens 'til she gets home.

Down in Mobile, With the extra landscaping,

this $50,000 coop is finished

and will be waiting for Lynette

and her chickens when she recovers.

Her husband Russ is ready to see it,

but we've gotta call in the chicken whisperer first!

We got everything all built,

but I think we need the final touches.

It's a big day today.

We got the chicken coop all done. We're gonna show Russ.

So I'll go grab him, show him the inside.

And then we'll give him the surprise at the end.

Wow. Look at that.

That is something else.

I think it's Lynette's vision for sure.

Oh, my god, that's way beyond her vision.

That is unbelievable.

That looks like an actual fishing stage.

The stilts, the colours. Everything.

You could throw this in any harbour in any bay

around Newfoundland and you'd think someone was using it as a fishing hut.

Only thing now we don't have a boat tied up, just chickens. Right?

Can chickens swim?

- Can chickens swim? - I don't know.

I know nothing about chickens. - I don't know either, so...

The colours you see all over Newfoundland.

The old windows and they actually operate.

The storm door on the outside you see a lot on the old houses in Newfoundland.

Fantastic. This is unbelievable.

My god, she's gonna be so impressed.

We did a lotta work. As you remember,

that was a straight bank, so we had to build this whole pathway.

We didn't even expect this. We just thought

there was gonna be a dirt path down here

and a retaining wall. That's fantastic.

You wanna go around to the side and have

a look where the actual chickens get in?

- I'd love to see all of this. - We put mulch here,

so it's nice and clean. And that door there

is actually the poop door.

Oh, my god. I don't want to know about that.

That's not my business.

Oh, look at this. So we got a hatch to get inside.

You can clean out. And we got a ramp made.

And if you stand back, it actually looks like an old fishing stage.

It does. It's all up on stilts. Oh, my god, that's beautiful.

I can't believe chickens are living in this.

- I know, right? - What's with the door?

That's an automatic door.

So when they're gonna come out, it'll lift up.

- You're kidding. - Go in, it'll close.

We pimped this one out. - The Coop de Ville. There you go.

So before we go inside, I want to show you the other side of the coop.

- Fantastic. - More doors.

This one's a lot better, though, to open than the other one.

This'll be my side, is what you're sayin'.

Yes, yes. You'll enjoy opening this side.

That side, not so much. So the two doors,

you can open 'em up, reach in, take the eggs.

You're kidding. Can I open it?

- Oh, yeah, give 'er. - I guess I just twist these.

- Twist the knobs. - Oh, look at that.

I just grab the eggs right there.

Oh, that's handy. I don't have to go inside. That is perfect.

That's Lynette's job inside, not mine.

Now that we got the outside all done,

you wanna go the inside? - I'd love to.

Definitely put everything there that Lynette wanted.

There's a lotta fancies inside.

Jeez, I can't wait to see this.

Is this a house or a chicken coop?

It's kinda a chicken house.

We took Lynnette's vision and just brought it to life.

- Wow, have you ever. - Custom cabinets on the inside.

We kind of wanted to make that woodsy barn feel.

And the hinges we had to make them black.

Lynette wanted the wallpaper.

Who puts wallpaper in a chicken coop? That's gotta be a first.

There's even a Silkie Bantam. That's the kind of chicken she wants.

What a beautiful print that is.

And this is where the chickens life in here.

It is.

Oh, look at this. Drapes, curtains. Look at this.

This is where they lay the eggs. If you remember the two hatches on the outside.

So I know how many she's getting. Six. There's six there.

So this is where the chickens'll perch

and if you can remember the other door,

that's the door that you don't wanna touch,

everything'll fall down here,

then you can slide it out, clean it off.

Well, that's ingenious. And there's power in here.

There's a feeder, then there's water over here,

'cause you plug in the water in the wintertime.

Oh, so it won't freeze! Right. You've thought of everything in here.

This chicken coop, it's not like your normal chicken coop.

It's pretty much like a house.

You have the washroom, the bedroom,

the living room and the playroom.

These windows were custom-made, as well.

Everything in this place was a full custom job.

One of a kind.

You'll have the best chicken coop, I'd say,

in Newfoundland and Labrador.

She is going to just love this.

You absolutely captured exactly her vision.

I've been hearing about chicken coops for 15 years

and you have nailed it.

Awesome, awesome.

Never could I have imagined this.

When I thought of a chicken coop, I thought of

a few boxes on the ground covered in chicken wire.

I never thought it could take on personality design

and just look like an authentic fishing stage.

When Lynnette went into the hospital,

we had to make a decision, do we delay the project,

halt the project? And I assured everybody that...

that it would be Lynette's hope and mine, as well,

that we would continue with the project

and it would give us all something to look forward to,

and would give her something to look forward to.

The Rock Solid team was fully on board

to continue with the project.

In all honesty, it helped me along the way,

because I knew that this was being done for her

and I'd be able to bring her home and surprise her

with the finished project.

So Lynette is doing fantastic,

and we're very, very happy, we've had a miracle.

Got the chickens.

Release the beasts.

While Lynette recovers, we thought it would be fun

to do a little test run for Russ.

So we have Matt, the chicken whisperer here.

Hello! Seems like the chickens

are already right at home. They love it.

I know, right? Probably in there layin' eggs, are they?

Yeah. There's one in a next box, actually.

- Wow. - He's not only the chicken whisperer,

but he actually built all the cabinets inside,

him and P.J. in the wood shop.

Built all the custom windows, the doors. Man of many talents.

I think she came up with. So that's gonna be the plan,
