>> Doctor seems to think so. She said

nothing serious, no concussion, but she

seems pretty out of it. Yeah, some sort

of amnesia. The poor thing.

>> She has no ID with her either.

but I don't know my own name.

parts of the brain.

typically affects personal, not global

memories and not skills.

remember what kind of car you own, but

she didn't want to see me again.

And if I'm being honest,

I've always regretted how that

relationship ended.

>> She was great. We were great. I mean,

she was a student and she got her MBA

and all these Manhattan firms started

offering her just these amazing jobs.

I was a workingass sergeant at the time.

I'm bouncing around from base to base.

She started soaring up the corporate

ladder like she was on fire.

She'd have lost all that with me.

she was willing to follow you and you

broke up with her?

>> Yeah.

I didn't think she'd be happy with that

life.

I wasn't sure she'd be happy with me.

the Marines. And I like my coffee black.

>> I own two pairs of shoes. I own my own

construction company. Never been

married. Therefore, no kids.

>> You seeing anyone?

>> Nah. I mean, I've dated here and there,

but uh when I was overseas, I just moved

around too much. And now that I'm back

here, well, just kind of focus on work

and volunteering at the church.

>> Come on. I can't believe you've never

been in a serious relationship.

>> Yeah. Why would you say that?

>> Well, I mean, look at you. You You've

clearly got your act together. Retired

military with your own company, who's

had an incredible year, by the way. Not

to mention your good looks and charm.

And I'm just I'm just saying that you're

a catch obviously like objectively.

>> There was someone once.

Yeah. She was everything I'd ever

wanted.

It was love at first sight.

She was warm and caring and beautiful

and she had these eyes.

Felt like you could get lost in them.

Whenever you talked to her, it's the way

she looked at you, the way she listened.

You just knew that you had every ounce

of her attention.

It's like the rest of the world just

disappeared.

Like none of it mattered.

>> Made the biggest mistake of my life.

She was this successful business dynamo.

Just world of possibilities ahead of

her. And I did not want her to stop

pursuing her dreams, you know, just to

But I've come to realize that that

wasn't just my decision to make.

it's time to let it go. Brooke helps us,

does bookkeeping, but Gail's ready to

retire. I can handle maintenance, storm

prep, backup generator, you name it. But

that leaves Gail to deal with guests and

marketing. And we inherited our big

account that left town. What do we know

about drumming up business for a space

this size? Imagine that's a full-time

job in itself.

Uh, my girl, she just loves to bake and

garden.

>> We started this when Ron and I inherited

the inn. What was it? 33 34 years ago.

>> This Christmas will be 35 years.

>> Now you said your grandparents lived

here.

>> They built this place.

>> My grandfather was a successful railroad

contractor who knew the value of

building near the line. My grandmother

was in hospitality.

When the boom hit, it brought in

investors and city folks who were

looking for a place to impress their

colleagues. My grandparents had this

vision of a seasonal mountain hotel, not

only for the investors and their fancy

parties, but familyun and a wonderful

place for people to come spend the

Christmas holidays. And that's how we

got the name the Merry Mountain Inn. And

they opened it. Wow. Uh well, it was 100

years ago.
