So, as we all know,

there has been the occasional
actual murder here.

- There's also been 45 games
where no one was harmed.

- Yeah, and my book is nearly
finished,

which will provide greater
context to the actual murders.

The actual murders have
increased the desire

to come to "Mystery Island."

We are currently booked
up 13 months ahead.

So I pitched to Carlos an
expansion idea,

and we came up with "Mystery
Mountain."

He's just bought the property in
Montana.

- I didn't think Carlos was
open to anything off the island.

- Oh yes, it did take a bit of
convincing,

but that's why I'm here,

to think about the future
of "Mystery Island."

And with this new property,
we can start the expansion.

- That's great, but I'm not sure

him and I can handle writing
games for both properties.

- Ah, no worries there.

Carlos is hard at work
vetting the new staff.

Ooh, and when he's done, he's
bringing

the "Mystery Mountain" team
here.

- Oh, fun. So then they'll
play one of our games?

- Oh, contrarian. We're
going to play their game.

(gentle dramatic music)
(Janey exclaims)

- To new beginnings.

- (sighs) It's a bit scary

to be without the job that
defined me.

Island" my full-time work.

- Lonnie Alfred, the
psychiatrist
that killed seven people?

- Well, I couldn't tell you at
the time,

but I was the one who got him to
confess.

- Yeah, he threatened to do to
me

what he did to his seven
victims.

And he's not the first person
to make that kind of threat,

but I decided he was gonna be
the last.

I fear he has connections
on the other side.

but he's trying to make his

detective with the Chicago PD.

She's one of the game writers.

Dr. Stanley Williams, acclaimed
criminal psychiatrist,

who's helped the FBI
catch dozens of killers.

Inga Sorenson, "Mystery
Mountain"'s own majordomo,

who we were able to hire
away from a Swedish mogul.

And her head of security, Khalif
Brooks.

Ex-Army Special Forces medic.

(soft upbeat music)

- I dare say we're ready.

be the perfect opportunity

to use my skills, but not have

with the real crimes and
bureaucracy.

(Jason scoffs)

- I guess I still love catching
bad guys.

- I already miss that part of
it.

Here on "Mystery Mountain,"
we embrace innovation.

While "Mystery Island" has
no cell service or wifi,

we have this past week installed

a temporary Bluetooth network.

The phones Inga and Khalif are
handing out

will be a crucial part
of playing the game.

- Oh, this is so cool.

- Uh, mine's just a blank
screen at the moment.

- Correct, when it comes online,

that will signal the start of
the game.

- Delightful. (chuckles)

(group laughs)

- He's still learning to work
with others.

But uh, we were looking for
someone

with a similar skillset to you,

as that's worked so effectively
here on "Mystery Island."

- And I suggested

we bring on a cop,
because I know the pairing

has worked so well here.

- I may have been the
next person they hired,

but I wasn't the first
cop they approached.

I was 12th.

(suspenseful music)

Like the fact that Inga
has a criminal record.

shrouded in deception.

after the Telemachus clue?

- Well, I wrote most of this
game

and I definitely didn't
write me being shot.

- Maybe it was an old device
that just happened to go off.

- I am sorry, but this
is an absurd coincidence.

I mean, Carlos, they are
obviously trying to thwart us

because we are getting close
to solving their game, man!

- Right.

police on the mainland.

(somber suspenseful music)

and there is still a killer out
there.

- Three people dead, but
yet where are their bodies?

- Well, the killer took Regan's

to draw us out of the mansion
that night.

- Perhaps, but then there's
Dex thrown off a tower,

yet a body is nowhere to be
found.

- Yes, the killer dragged it
away.

- Maybe, but then there's
Stanley, shot sometime last
night.

His glasses were left behind,
but his body was taken?

- Right, so three murders
and three missing bodies.

- Evelyn's riddles pointed us
to this very meta solution.

The person who isn't what they
seem to be is John Murtaugh,

whose final act of his
lifetime was to stage a murder

that wasn't a murder.

that triggered the dart
gun, which shot Regan.

- Telemachus roughly translates
to Archer,

but it actually means far from
battle

because an archer can
kill from a distance.

- [Jason] He could have
hidden it behind a book

before he insisted we frisk
everyone.

- Then Dex, along with
a very much alive Regan,

and Khalif, staged his death at
the ruins.

He wore this hat not
only to irritate Janey,

but so there would be a
recognizable clothing item

to draw everyone's attention.

- What about Stanley?

- Stanley becomes crucial at
this point.

Everything he said and did

was designed to make
him our prime suspect.

- [Emilia] He pulled a knife on
Jason

to ensure he'd get locked up.

- Making Inga so scared to be
here,

we all had to stay in one room
together.

- Which gave Dex, Regan,
and Stanley plenty of time

to stage Stanley's murder.

Queue us with the replica
glasses in the hidden box,

and dispatch one final
insult to John Murtaugh.

- A rather brilliant callback

to the original murder
of "Mystery Island."

- And a very meta game for us
all to play.

- Three murders that, like
Murtaugh's,

weren't murders at all.
