* MTV. *
-SYLVESTER: Are we here? -SISTINE: We have arrived.
Italia, buon giorno.
SISTINE AND SOPHIA: Oh, my God.
Hey.
SCARLET: This is like Stallone festival.
People think when you're doing movies,
wow, you're so lucky, you're in Italy.
You're exhausted, you come home,
room service every night.
SOPHIA: There was no romance in Rome?
Zero.
Then this is your chance to redeem
the romance of Rome for the two of you.
SCARLET: Mom, I'm really stressed about Louis.
He hasn't been texting me.
He hasn't been calling me.
He's been not himself.
Surprise.
* *
SYLVESTER: Can you do me a favor, baby love?
Right near the bedside is a little thing with pills.
-Yeah. -SYLVESTER: Hurry, baby.
Hurry, hurry, please.
Bedroom, bedside. Did he say bedside?
("Slide" by Hazel English playing)
* I want to wake up where you are *
* I won't say anything at all *
Surprise.
* So, why don't you slide... *
What is going on?
Seeing Louis, my body froze.
I felt like I was in a fever dream.
Come here. Come here.
* Put your arms around me *
* What you feel is what you are *
* And what you are is beautiful... *
(crying)
SCARLET: I've never had someone I love
surprise me like this.
It completely just made my heart want to explode.
I love you.
Oh, my God.
SOPHIA: Where are they?
Where is she?
Aw.
-(laughs) -I'm gonna cry.
SOPHIA: Oh, she's crying.
Hey, what are you doing in my bedroom?
-Yeah. -Oh, my God, Louis.
LOUIS: Hello, guys.
-Oh, my God. -Hey, bro. Good to see you.
-Good to see you. -Mission accomplished.
LOUIS: Mission accomplished.
You guys look great.
Well, she was not expecting this at all.
-Did you have any idea? -No idea.
JENNIFER: Seeing Scarlet
see Louis out on our balcony
was priceless.
SYLVESTER: She literally had
a loving meltdown.
I mean, this is it. Unabashed young love.
This is what we all went through before we became a little jaded.
This is the pure thing. I went, "Damn. Aw."
What guy flies to freaking Italy
-to surprise his girlfriend? -I know.
Pretty cool, huh?
-This is where you take some notes. -I will, baby.
SCARLET: You know I am so happy.
SOPHIA: Now you guys can have your little Italian romance.
-Great surprise, Louis. -Thank you.
-Come on, baby. -A father's worst nightmare.
Oh, come on. Geez, Louise.
* *
-My heart is pounding. -Oh, my God.
I actually don't feel like this is real right now.
This does not feel real.
Considering where we left things off,
I am so shocked that this man
is standing right in front of me
after I was being hard on him.
I'm so excited to just see him face-to-face.
I know we need to talk it out,
but that can wait until tonight when we are alone.
You don't realize how much she missed you.
-I'm-I'm so happy. -SOPHIA: Oh, my God.
She talked about what she wanted to buy you,
why your phone was broken, blah, blah, blah.
I hate leaving things on a bad note.
I hate, like, having this off vibe.
That's so nice to travel across the world
to say, "I'm here. No matter where you go,
-I'm going." -LOUIS: Yeah.
I don't mind doing the traveling if it's to see Scarlet.
-Oh, my God. -SISTINE: Ah! I'm so single!
Sylvester, you need to fly across the world for me.
Oh, I would crawl across the world for you.
-Oh. -Aw. Right.
His back would go out first.
You can't even get to the floor.
If you lay down the floor, you might not be able to get up.
(chuckles) He needs one of those buttons that's like,
"Help, I've fallen and I can't get up."
-Help. -Life Alert?
-My grandma has that. -See?
She's like 87.
Oh, no!
SYLVESTER: Okay, on that note...
Roasted. Roasted. Roasted.
-See? Only, like, seven years apart. -Ten.
SYLVESTER: There's a bus leaving in ten minutes.
I'll be under it. See you later.
* Talk to me, baby *
* I'm goin' blind from this sweet, sweet craving, whoa-oh *
* Let's lose our minds and go crazy, crazy *
* I-I-I-I-I *
* I-I-I-I-I. *
* *
GUIDE: We are in San Bonaventura al Palatino.
How old is this?
The convent was founded in 1685 by Spanish friars.
It's a contemporary artist studio.
-Right. -GUIDE: His name is Sidival Fila.
Lives and works here.
SYLVESTER: The friars are definitely in good shape.
(guide laughs)
SYLVESTER: It's wonderful to actually
vacation with Jennifer.
We've been here many times before,
but always for work.
So it was never a vacation.
It was just obligations.
You can't fix that,
but you can fix tomorrow.
And when we got to Rome,
I said, "Ah, finally. I can start to dote on her
"and show her how much I love her and really appreciate
our one-on-one time."
Finally.
GUIDE: From here,
you have the most unbelievable view of the city.
By a whole three people.
JENNIFER: Sly, stop that.
I'm really, really nervous.
While Sly and I are on this history tour,
the girls are going on a Vespa tour,
which I love because it's so, you know, Roman holiday.
SOPHIA: Oh, we're so excited.
SISTINE: So ready.
-Oh, my gosh. -It looks good. (chuckles)
-I get on first? -You look like an egg.
Hey, I look like an egg? You look like an egg.
(laughs)
There's no better way to see Rome
than on a Vespa with an Italian man.
SOPHIA: Are we ready?
-Ready? -SISTINE: Yeah. (whoops)
* *
GUIDE: This was the Roman emperor's palace.
If you want, you can also ring the bell.
-SYLVESTER: Really? -GUIDE: Yeah.
JENNIFER: Come on, Sly.
Use a little muscle, Rambo.
-(bell tolls) -There you go. There you go.
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.
-Dinnertime. -Yeah. (laughs)
SISTINE: Yeah! (whoops)
Feels so good.
It's gorgeous.
I live in Miami. It's nothing like this.
("Glow" by Distant Matter playing)
It is so romantic here.
SOPHIA: I am in my summer
of no men, no problems. (chuckles)
But there's something about being in Italy
that is just making me mushy.
I just wish I was with someone.
Smile.
(laughs)
(horns honking)
SISTINE: Oh, my goodness. It's crazy.
That was so fun.
-Oh, thank you. -MAN: Thank you so much.
That was amazing.
* I go wherever you go *
* Don't need no plan *
Sly, are you in--
No, no, no. You're too soon.
What are you doing?
You always say, the last time we were in Rome,
I'm always working,
not romantic, you're not this and that.
When in Rome, do as the Romans.
So I say we take a Roman shower.
(chuckles)
A romantic bathroom night?
And I'm looking around going
"There's, like, ten other people in this room."
-Come on. -Are you kidding?
I'm serious.
You've got to be kidding. Hold on, hold on.
-Check it out. -Have you turned around?
There's a cameraman right there. You think I really...?
-I-I really...? -Even better.
We can show the kids how it's done.
-(chuckles) -You really think...?
-Don't be shy. -I'm incredibly shy.
-First of all, my makeup is already running off. -It is a little steamy.
My hair is going flat.
And you're gonna burn me in there, okay?
Are you steaming vegetables or--?
(quietly): Fuck. Yes.
So that was negated.
-Seriously. -Are you saying this is not happening?
-This is definitely not happening. -Okay. You're out.
-You're done. That's it. -This is the most unromantic.
I've never been so insulted. I'm out of here.
-That's it. -If you're gonna bake a potato,
you can stay in here.
* *
LOUIS: Scar, you ready?
SCARLET: Yeah, but I need a Band-Aid. (chuckles)
(whoops)
-Look at you. -Oh, my God. Stop.
Tell me I look really pretty.
-You look stunning. -Oh, my God. Thanks, babe.
I need a Band-Aid really badly.
I'm excited. Where are we going?
-Surprise. -Ooh.
He's such a romantic.
I definitely think Louis is winning
in the relationship 100%.
You're gonna show my boob, Louis.
Stop grabbing my dress.
-(laughs) -Thank you.
Thank you.
Nice.
* Date night! * (whoops)
* *
JENNIFER: This is incredible.
-Wow. -So beautiful.
-This is amazing. Thank you. -The chair for you.
Grazie.
-Thank you. -Doesn't get better.
-Yeah. -I mean, seriously.
This is quite the night.
-Yeah. -Excuse me, madame.
-Hello. -For you. (speaks Italian)
Let's give it a chance here.
-Okay. -(laughing)
-I dare you. -Taste it, Sylvester.
(exhales)
You call that wine--? (laughing) No, it's great.
(laughing)
SYLVESTER: The shower didn't work very well...
and we moved on to a very, very romantic dinner.
It's nerve-racking in the sense that
it's almost like we're dating again.
There's no one around, there's no paparazzi.
And you look into that person's eyes and you know
exactly why you love her.
Well, here we are.
-Bon appétit. -Bon appétit.
-Grazie. (speaking Italian) -Okay.
-(laughs) Whatever that means. -Yeah, well.
This is beautiful.
Beautiful wife, beautiful food.
Makes me... reminisce
to the first time I saw you.
All of a sudden...
I see this... light.
-(laughs) -And you were coming
closer and closer.
-And the hair and the eyes. -(laughs)
-My big Valley hair. -Yeah.
-The Valley hair, the smile. -And blue eyeshadow.
It just was... seismic.
It was-- whoo--
like mini earthquake, and
I never... got over that feeling.
-Oh. -And here we are,
-and the earth's still moving. -(laughs)
35 years later.
When I look at you, I think it's the foundation.
It's what holds it all together.
-Thank you. -It's the truth.
To me, the most important thing in life...
-Mm-hmm. -...is to have family
and to have love.
That's all I wanted in my whole life.
I know we've been saying some flattering things,
but I'd like to do,
like, a Jennifer love celebration.
-(laughs) -A moment where the girls
get involved, I get involved,
and we celebrate you.
-That's beautiful. Thank you. -Okay?
Yeah, I'm a little shy about that, but...
-can we just make it... -Cause we wouldn't do it...
-...a love family fest or something? -No, no.
It's a celebration of Jennifer.
-Will you show up, please? -But...
-I will show up. -You deserve it.
-I promise. -I'll drink to that.
See you at the celebration.
(laughs) Where is it going to be?
SYLVESTER: Over almost 36 years, I've missed
a lot of occasions-- birthdays and holidays--
so I wanted to do something for Jennifer
that was so romantic,
and show her how much I really appreciate her
and how life would be
nothing without her.
JENNIFER: I can't imagine anybody else
-in my life but you. -Mm.
It's us forever.
It is us forever.
You are it.
-I love you, babe. -I love you too, angel.
JENNIFER: Sly doesn't really
surprise me with, like, flowers or,
"I booked a trip." Like, never happens.
(laughs) He's not that kind of guy.
So all of these little things Sly's been doing
is starting to make sense for me now.
It's super special and very meaningful
to see that he is putting so much time and energy
to make me feel so good and feel so special.
-Cheers. -Salute.
It's another excuse to get drunk, but I'm gonna salute you
-again. -I'm going to salute us
because, you know, it takes two.
SISTINE: Let's go this way.
-Towards the steps. -Yeah.
Let's go to the most romantic city ever
and hang out with each other like we do...
-We're on a date. -...all the time.
-We're on a date. -Wait, no.
-I don't like it held like this. -Oh, you're so...
I would hate to date you. You're so...
Also, I'm the girl. You're supposed to be...
-I'm supposed to be on the sidewalk. -Why am I the boy?
SOPHIA: Rome is so much prettier at night.
-So romantic. -I know.
SISTINE: It's so stunning.
Let me actually get a photo of you right now. Go.
(gasps)
Oh, this is so cute!
-Right? She's beautiful. -Oh, my God.
Okay, no more photos for you.
-That's so... -Thank you.
I don't... I don't have any money.
Oh, that's not fair. Give...
-I don't have any money. -We have no money with us.
I have no money. I have no money.
-(laughs) -Sorry.
(both laughing)
I've never been humbled so fast.
What? This is the definition
of our experience in Rome right there.
Sophia, I've never been humbled so fast in my life.
My intention for this night out with Sophia was just
to embrace our singleness, have a little fun together.
We don't need a man.
It actually did the very
opposite of that.
We feel worse. We're in the city
of love. No love.
-That was brutal. -That was my love life in a nutshell.
"Here's a little something. Just kidding." Taking it away.
SOPHIA: So many fucking couples.
SISTINE: They look so happy.
The only intimate relationship I want tonight is
with an ice cream cone.
-Yeah, 'cause you can lick it. -Okay.
You took it there. It didn't need to go there.
SCARLET: Look at that!
That's insane.
-My phone's buzzing. -(phone ringing)
Hello?
-Hi, Scar. -Hi, sis.
We're literally looking at the Colosseum right now,
-and you're not here. -SISTINE: We're sitting
in a random alley eating ice cream from a grocery store.
Not gonna lie. It's pretty sad.
SCARLET: Sorry you don't have a boyfriend
to look at the Colosseum with.
SOPHIA: In the last few months, I've been
really focused on, "Figure out what you want, Sophia.
Do it on your own."
But right now, I don't know if it's the Italian air,
I don't know if it's the gelato and the flowers, but
I don't know. It would be really nice to spend this with someone.
We're happy you guys are having fun.
Drink an Aperol for us.
(laughing): Will do.
Bye.
(laughing): Bye.
I am so happy.
Do you want me to get down on one knee?
No. Get up right now. Get up right now.
In front of everyone? How embarrassing is that?
No, no, no. Walk away. Walk away. (laughs)
* *
How's it going?
LOUIS: It's stunning.
SCARLET: Looking out into the view
of the Colosseum--
it is heart-dropping.
-Ooh. -I've never had caviar before.
-You'll like it, I promise. -I don't...
(muffled laughter)
-You like it? -Mm.
-So good. So... -I'm so glad I came.
I'm really glad you came, too.
The way we left it
when you left to Italy just didn't sit right with me.
That's why I wanted to come here and clear the air.
We had the discussion about me leaving school, and I had
no idea where your head is at, at all.
As amazing as
this dinner is, we can't keep dancing
around this conversation
about whether
I should stay in Miami.
I'm honestly just terrified, because the last thing
I want to do is
come in and ruin something good.
The future didn't involve both of us.
It only involved separate lives, so,
that's why it put such a... strain on me.
You want to go to New York?
-Right? -Yeah. I mean, this is...
I love the film industry, I love writing,
and I love acting, and I love being in that business.
And everyone that I'm working with--
-they're all in New York. -Yeah.
And Miami doesn't provide any of that,
but college and you.
For me, what makes me happy is knowing that
you're happy, and that you're doing what you want to do.
So if you're holding yourself back because of me,
it's difficult to... to wrap my head around.
'Cause, like, if you want to move to New York, then,
I've always been someone to be like, "Go do it."
Like, no matter how far the distance is,
my heart will always be drawn to you.
And, like, I just did this short trip in Italy, a surprise.
I don't mind doing that in the future.
SCARLET: Hearing him say this
just makes me feel so much more settled
and kind of like a weight lifted off me.
I think it's good to have the conversations
about looking ahead, but not take it so much to heart.
Yeah.
I have
very, very, very bad trust issues, and I always
think the worst.
And sometimes I just need to calm down,
and I need to trust him
and not expect the worst from people.
You never realize,
like, when you... when you really love someone until
you feel like they're being pushed away.
Coming here kind of clears the air with everything.
-Yeah. -And I'm glad we could have a dinner like this.
(laughs)
As cheesy and romantic as it is... (laughs)
...we love this stuff. (laughs)
* I already know I love you singing in the doorway *
* I already know I love to see you walking my way *
* I already know, already know... *
SCARLET: I can't believe you're leaving.
No!
No! No!
It's so sad.
-I loved being here. -I know.
And being with you and your family,
it's just been super special.
-Yeah. -I think it's a bucket-list thing...
It is a bucket list, but I want to come back with you.
-We'll see each other soon. -I just... I just...
-Three days. -But you just, like...
Can you last three days without me?
No, I obviously didn't last a week, so...
Even though Louis is leaving,
I finally, for once, don't feel anxious,
and I don't feel unsure about the relationship.
The questions were answered, and I can
finally just relax and enjoy the trip with my family.
-LOUIS: I love you so much. -I love you, too.
I love you, too.
Enjoy the rest of the trip.
Send me lots of pictures.
* *
-You guys know what to do when you meet the Pope? -No.
-Curtsy. -Every single person in my family
will do something embarrassing.
-Ready? We box. -(laughter)
Do you feel like love is in the air?
SOPHIA: A little bit.
His name is Flavio.
SISTINE: We really want to make
this love ceremony special for my mom.
-You're choking me up. Christ almighty. -Oh, my God.
* Come on now, roll with the crazy *
* Dance like 1980 *
* Ooh, ooh *
* Roll with the crazy *
* Dance like 1980 *
* *
* Roll with me, baby *
* You ain't gonna save me *
* Ooh, ooh. *
