I came here to push myself past my artistic limits.

I've earned every single achievement

and done some of the best tattoos

I've ever done in my entire career.

I've been busting my ass so I can put my wife

in the house of her dreams and open up my dream shop.

That money is as good as mine.

I was nerve-wracked.

My creativity and my originality

because it's very time-efficient.

This entire back piece is all about my personal journey

to conquer your fears.

I have this big wolf that represents anxiety

and this cute little rabbit

that is holding the tongue of the wolf.

When you embrace your fears,

some good things are going to come.

I think I'm going to go a bit more black and gray.

It's kind of scary to not have

a specific plan because I'm a planner,

but I want to prove to myself that I can do it.

This piece is everything I want to say who I am,

like from strange, weird,

complex, to create this crazy imagery.

This siren monster dementor,

and then little fairies around this monster.

all together to have something that is cohesive.

[Matt] I always sort of had to take care of my dad.

The Hannya, it represents an intense negative emotion.

Resentment, anger, all those things I've been carrying

through a lot of the last years

of my relationship with my dad.

And I'm putting a Japanese scroll in the Hannya's mouth

as an apology,

like the words I wish I got to say to my dad

before he passed away.

You're killing it, dude.

I'm going for the biggest tattoo that's ever been done.

I can't do it without you.

Size doesn't matter. Artistry does.

Creativity does.

My hand is like, it's already numb.

The style and subject were completely up to you.

[Joel] You called color illustrative.

This was to represent a bit of myself.

Feeling a bit like an outcast.

And I get inspired to do the judges,

DJ, say like, "You're going to have time for this."

Ryan, "Take your time, take a break."

Nikko say like, "It's cool, bro."

Clearly, you're a great illustrator.

The face is fantastic. The eyes are striking.

[Ryan] The neck is repetitive of the bright pink vertebrae

coming down the back in a really cool, cohesive way.

I just love the way the anatomy on the skull is

with this weird, creepy hand.

But I find myself trying to pick out what I want to look at.

The composition is a bit off.

All the energy is flowing one way

and just heading off in one direction.

Nothing's pulling me back in the piece.

But other than that, it's freaking fantastic, man.

I can't believe you pulled this off.

The idea is to represent a way to embrace your fears.

That's a little bit about my life,

-especially being here. -The wolf looks fun.

The energy of it, I just think it looks wacky.

[Ryan] The line work and the sketchiness in the wolf

is sort of anxiety provoking,

but I think that's part of the story

because the bunny is so perfect.

I really love the flow and direction of this piece.

It makes me look down the tongue

and find the rabbit at the bottom.

-I love that. -It's very much a payoff.

The bunny is awesome. Cute little face.

It makes me smile.

I just wish the tongue was solid red.

It just looks unfinished.

But I love these exclamation points.

I like the technique that you used inside of him

where it's almost this kind of spray paint.

It's a great back piece. It's different.

You don't see this every day. It's very cool.

Everything in this piece

I wanted to represent my experiences here.

The eagle at the top

is for me being the last American standing here.

The chain link to represent my hometown of Pittsburgh,

Steel City.

The eagle and the chain link is the coolest part.

It's big. It's bold.

It's in your face. It's purposeful.

I don't know if I love the ship as a centerpiece.

It would have been cool to see the biggest and boldest piece

be right up there in the middle.

You could have done it a little bigger.

Stretch it out. It's just too stiff.

I think you just smothered it with too much stuff.

It's a cool traditional scorpion on its own.

It's a cool traditional skull on its own.

I just think it's very pasted.

I do think you gave this canvas a timeless, bold tattoo

that will stand the test of time.

Trying to do that tattoo in such a small period of time,

rolling the dice on paint,

that's what I like about tattooing.

You kind of roll the dice all the time.

I just love it.

It's really tailor-made to fit this back perfectly.

I mean, the sheer size of this tattoo,

it's really impressive that you got that much done.

The strategy of leaving all of your negative space

-in the center-- -[DJ Tambe] It looked white.

[Ryan] It looks white.

[DJ Tambe] Like it was packed white.

I love the vibe in the face.

Really exaggerated.

Almost looks like too many teeth with this just shit grin.

[James] One of my favorite things too

are the veins in the eyeballs

that push up to the top with the horns

because everyone's looking up.

There's a lot of energy and flow.

The flames are really stylized and cool.

And each one has to be in a style

that their competitors chose for their back piece.

showing them you can do what they do,

but you can do it better.

The linework is going to be the worst part.

Once we get through that, the shading is in the color.

This little geisha have to be immaculate to go against Matt.

Sorry if I'm not speaking too much,

this is an area that's, like, really precise.

This tattoo symbolizes what my mom has been through.

She had me when she was 16.

She didn't know what to do with her life.

She's been through a lot of bad places

and she came back from that.

Oh, pretty. That's his.

Looks like a sticker.

to represent our family like this,

I can't let them down.

It's really creative and new.

[James] The tattoo itself has lots of flow.

I love the saturation of color going through it.

There's some movement and energy to it.

Like, when you drew it, you had fun doing it.

It's a really unique design that I've never seen anyone do.

I like that the color isn't completely saturated.

It's so intricate and striking.

I absolutely love the red on the eyes,

how it's blended beautifully down onto the face.

The gradations in the kimono are really beautifully done.

and throw in a weird little skull.

But it's fucking sick. I love it.

It's traditional, but it still has your personality in it.

There's so many intricate, tiny little pieces to this,

put in with so much precision.

the different tones in the kimono.

And that's one thing you know how to do

is get that color in there, clean.

The hands, the placement, the head down.

I like that flow to it.

And I like how you put the maple leaves in there.

The problem with that is that they're unnecessary.

It's just too much in that little area, right?

It's tight. But it's well applied, man.

I like the face expression. I like the hair.

and how it creates almost this circular motion.

Having the title would put at ease the voice

I have in my head that I'm always like,

"It's not enough."

It would be like a paper of validation of like,

"Okay, you're good. It's okay.

Yeah, I mean, my game plan was just to do good tattoos

and shit stir Seth.

I mean, I fucking nailed my game plan.

Now it's just fucking getting that check and sealing the deal.

I'm really impressed with these four artists

that made it to the finale.

You know, Isnard's back piece, it's really different.

And then you got Seth's over here

with this weird skeleton.

two finalists out of the running.

Seth's shining moment was the illustrative color.

His two smaller tattoos, for me, outweigh the back piece.

[DJ Tambe] Oh, yeah.

If you would have brought a little of his creativity

from the skeleton into his other pieces,

they would have been totally different.

With Luka's, the back piece, it's unfinished.

What makes that back piece look so unfinished is that solid,

packed rabbit.

[Nikko] But you like the composition.

Yeah. For me, Isnard's 24-hour back piece

lacked a little on composition.

[James] I do have problems with Isnard's readability.

It does get a little bit confusing.

Luka's is like, immediately, I know that's Wolf Fox.

-[Ryan] Unfinished? -[James] Some sort of dog.

[Ryan] The only thing the wolf

and bunny has is great composition.

That is it.

The Japanese ones, I definitely like Isnard's better.

Luka crammed a lot of stuff into there.

I mean, I like the Japanese piece a lot.

So much little detail.

The ability to do that is tough.

When it comes to the traditional,

Luka totally crushed Isnard.

[James] Arguably the best traditional tattoo

of the bunch.

But I can't look past the quality of drawing

that Isnard put into his back piece.

[Ryan] The creativity, the uniqueness,

you don't come across all the time, guys.

and I'm not impressed by Hannyas.

But that back piece is fucking sick.

I mean, I feel like Isnard took a huge chance,

you know, because he made something

that is his own vision.

Isnard's creativity, guys, it's just so fucking cool.

[James] But Matt's snail is pushing it

in its own crazy illustrative way.
