Murder Nova now holds their highest ranking of the season.

Maple Grove. How y 'all doing today?

Folks, we have a big show planned for you today. A lot of racing. The

invitational class pays $40 ,000 to win.

$200 ,000 to win to the team that has the most points at the end of the

Team Kai Kelly has been holding down first place now for four straight weeks,

and they have held that position more than any team this entire season.

But Team Daddy Dave is just 100 points behind them, even though both of those

teams didn't do so hot last week in Ohio.

Kai Kelly got knocked out in round one by his teammate, Clay Cole. And Dave

hasn't made it out of the first round in the past three events.

That's gave a couple other teams a chance to move ahead, like Team Murder

who had a great event last week.

So, we're in third place. Yep.

We're only 60 points away from Dave's team.

The only bad thing is, they got all five in, and Doc, he can't get a break. I

know. With Ford. With Ford. But.

If we have another week like we did last week, we might get ground. We need to

put them out for a crown. No doubt. Now's the time to make our move, though.

We're running out of time. I know.

And also, Team Bodie has been looking strong.

Bodie himself, unfortunately, could not make the event. But one of his

teammates, Damon Merchant, has stepped up to help lead.

Having three in's been really hurting us. Right. We've been putting in work.

We've been doing it.

But if you think about that now, where are we in the ninth or tenth race? It's

90 to 100 points right there. Yeah, it's a lot.

It would have made a big difference if I was there with you guys.

Like I said, it ain't been for lack of effort. We know it's fast. It's been

looking really good.

Mike Bowman was able to successfully race his way into the main event.

This will be the first time that Team Bodie has had four racers in the invite.

Meanwhile, Ryan Martin's team is having a little bit more trouble.

Last week, Ryan traded Chuck for Jerry Bird, but unfortunately, Jerry Bird was

unable to race his way in.

That, along with mediocre performances from the rest of the team, forced him to

drop two spots in the rankings.

The reason why we came here first is to welcome you guys to our team. I think

that we can help you guys get a little faster, and that part I'm ecstatic

Finally, we have Mike Murillo and Disco Dean's teams who have had a really rough

year. They each have less than half the points of Team Ty Kelly, and they're

running out of time to catch up. Our main concern is, obviously, Larry's been

doing pretty good. The rest of the team over here has been struggling, riding

the struggle bus. We made a change. We got Chuck on the team, tried to change

our luck up. Jerry's over here. Booted that worthless -ass Jerry Bird out of

here that couldn't get in.

He's out of here.

I got big shoes to fill. You know I only wear nine -and -a -halfs, right?

Last week, we had a lot of back -and -forth with trades.

But this week, there were only two changes.

Dave dropped Kyle Canyon, who was unable to make it to the event, and picked up

Reaper. And Bodie replaced himself with Tim Brown.

Team Disco Dean did not have much success racing their way in, so they

two drivers racing in the main event today.

And the deal he made proved to be better for Ryan as Jerry Bird was able to race

his way in and make it into the main event, which now means Ryan has all five

his drivers in today. That should give him a good chance at crawling back up

leaderboard.

Ryan drew his new teammate, Jerry Bird, which is a tough draw for him since it's

his first time back in the Invitational since Idaho.

Ain't nobody trading with him.

Lizzie Mucey drew Tony McKinney, who actually was able to take her out in the

first round of last week.

Then Damon Merchant from Bodie's team ended up drawing Clay Cole from Team

Both those drivers have been earning a ton of points for their team, but that

will not be the case for one of them today.

All right, folks, we're going to go ahead and get the starting line cleared

and we're going to go ahead and get this show started.

Bowman going up against Justin Swannstrom.

If he outruns me, then he's got to make a stellar run.

Whether or not he knows that, who knows? We're going to see.

We're in the Invitational. I'm super stoked because I haven't been there for

while. So I'm getting ready to race Justin Swanstrom.

They're telling me he hadn't made that good of licks yesterday, and I have. So

I've got to build some points. So every round counts. Got to make it happen. It

starts today.

It's been four or five races since I've been able to get out of first round, so

hopefully we can change that today. We got a new color scheme, and we got all

five drivers in.

Hopefully we can all win, go to the next round, gain some points. I think we're

only like 60 points behind Ryan Morant. Let's just see if we can go out there

and do our job, see if we can win, and go on to the second round.

He's one of the guys that kind of intimidates me because he can pull a

fast pass out of his ass, especially first round.

You know, if somebody don't have nothing to lose first round, they can swing at

it, and they either beat you or they don't. It don't matter.

That's the kind of guy Jim Howe is, and I hate drawing somebody like that first

round.

I feel like we've got the faster car, so drawing Kai is not a bad thing in my

eyes, but it is a tough draw first round.

I need to gain points. You know, that's the thing, and the only way to do that

is to beat the guys at the top.

I heard they were struggling a little bit, but I don't really give a who's in

I'm just going to go. When the light comes on, it could be my sister, and I'd

still want to chop her head off. Right. We got Giuseppe, and they've been having

a few issues. They got a fast car. They're both Hemi Procharger cars, so

going to be real similar. Obviously, mine's Proline -powered. His is Noonan

-powered. We're just going to put a tune -up in it that I know the track will

take. We've got the left lane, which I think is the better of the two lanes.

But, I mean, realistically, Hemi Procharger, Hemi Procharger, it's going

coin toss.

But we're going to give him all he can handle.

Still working on the car, having some issues.

Still having backfiring issues to the manifold.

We've changed every electrical part.

On the car, computer, everything gone through that.

Everything's going wrong. We broke the transmission.

Just having multiple issues.

So going into the first round is going to be a tough deal for us here. We're

going to just try changing more stuff and get back to where we were.

I think we ended up winning by about half a car is all.

New transmission's working great. Now we're going to turn it up. Now we know

that she'll function and take what we can give her.

We feel confident about today.

We put a new motor in. It's a little bit more spicier.

So we're going to have to just tune for that and hopefully make a good run

It felt like forever before the light dropped and turned green.

That's an automatic loss. So I just held on as long as I can until the light was

right and left.

Right around 330 feet, it shook the tire. So we got lucky this time. If he

didn't go right, I definitely would have lost it. Honestly, we think the motor's

just hopped up. It's freshened. It's, you know, new parts. It's just got a lot

more oomph to it, you know? So we got to just tone it down a little bit and get

ready for the second round.

I was way behind.

He just made an A to B run.

All right, folks. Next pair, Battle of the Turbos. We got Reaper going up

against Dominator.

Really? I know.

Of all people. I know. I agree.

Here, we've been struggling trying to help each other. Both of us. That's what

just told him.

And now we got to race each other? Yep.

So coming back this season, I took some time, switched it over to turbos.

We're real close on the car, but we're not quite there. We're going in with a

semi -fast car, and I have to draw Dominator, one of my best friends, and I

to draw him the first round.

But that friendship ends when we pull up to that light.

A 405 guy, Reaper.

Reaper's no dummy to racing. He's been doing it a long time. He knows his car

ain't 100%. He even said that coming into the meeting, like, hey, look, we

got it quite figured out yet, but we're really close.

So maybe real close means he's actually really close and he can make some fast

passes.

I let go of the brake. It started to shake about 60 feet out, and then it

started to pick the front end up. His got a little nasty about the 330, and he

said, take off, cone.

I hate it for him, but I'm going to take the win.

So it was a good lick.

We've got to calm it down a little bit. It was a little mad right there at 60

foot. No, it still moved.

That's why I needed one more hit on it.

against Kayla Morton.

We've been putting our ten points in each week, but we just can't get past

first round. Today we're going to get past the first round. I want to put ten

So round one here at Maple Grove Racing, we just beat Kayla Morton.

We actually erased her last race first round, and she beat me, so we owe her

some redemption. All right.

A couple of pistons messed up. Now we have all new pistons and new tires.

But she's got a really good tuner, and you've got me tuning mine. So I don't

know how good that is, but we're going to see what happens. I've got some stuff

It is looking good for today. The most important part is that we're all

consistent and we get through a couple rounds. Last week, Paige and I carried

the team. This week, I need the boys to step up and do their part. We're only

100 points behind Kai, and with double points and points and a half coming into

play, we still have time to catch them. We just got to do our jobs.

Last race, we had a mishap. We popped the burst panels on the blower. So

normally when that happens, there's a misfire, you know, happening in the

We put a fresh motor in, got it all ready, car's ready, the crew's ready,

like I said, we're going to go up there and make a race out of it.

And my car had been flying, especially after last night they'd seen them pass

So as the green come on, I seen him going by the 60 -foot mark. I said,

took a shot at it.

We crossed the finish line, he had me by a couple feet.

So apparently he caught that light. I got that lost.

That was a good gift.

Guess? You're damn right that was a guess.

With all the problems y 'all have, he's going to guess.

I think I'm going to take the run we made yesterday when it was warm out,

it up, clean the engine up, and run to the finish line.

Turn the sixth on about three seconds. About three seconds. Let her rip.

We're going to go out here. We've got Callie Mill.

I think we get down to the other end first, and we get past that first round,

and that's always the most nervous to me is the first round. Once I get past the

first round, I'm good the rest of the day. So, you know, Callie's fast, but

she's got to put a fast run together to outrun us in this car.

First round tip draw, I drew David Gates.

I raced him last weekend. He didn't make it down the track, but I'm sure they've

gotten their stuff figured out and went and tested and things like that as well

as we did. So it should be a good race.

The win. What a drag race there. Looked like it shook a little bit.

Not good. You're not supposed to have pieces falling out.

It actually started coming apart at about two seconds into the run.

Essentially there after that, I was running off seven cylinders. I think I

gave David a pretty good run just being on seven cylinders. I mean, definitely

if I would have had all eight, it would have been no problem.

You're always racing with y 'all. I know. It's always a fun time, you know?

Bam, bang, it shook on me every pass the last ten passes.

And whether people want to admit or not, this car's a couple months old now, but

we still have a new car blue.

another half the battle.

We're getting better and better every weekend, so we just got to keep up the

consistency, and hopefully we go several rounds a day. We're at the bottom of

not having to race our way in, like 24 or something.

You know, Robin won the grade eight last night, so we know that car's fast.

We know this car's fast, so it's going to come down to driver on this fast.

It's smooth and buttery, just the way it should be.

John and I have a history, but, you know, when he's up, he's tough to beat.

So if he makes a hero pass, we may be in trouble.

The last time we raced Larson, I got the win on that deal. But in Vegas, he went

to the finals.

He's not a duck. Like, the car's fast.

And we got a fast out ride, so hopefully I can beat him again.

So last week, after hurting the motor, refreshing the motor up, all new stuff

it, I feel real good. Like, we made a really fast pass last night. The car's

back to where it was. I won grade 8 here a few years ago. I'm hoping we can just

pull off an invitational win today.

We won this race here five years ago, I think it was, in 2018, so I'd sure like

to do it again this weekend.

I just need to do my job, not be late, get past first round and move on.

All right, over that right lane, backing up the Cadillac, that's going to be

Larry Larson going up against it.

Daddy Dave in that Audi.

Daddy Dave going to take the win there. Driving it. Car makes a hard move

towards the center line.

I mean, not that you can see his marks out there over everybody else. That

looked horrible, but nice job.

Chuck 55 going up against Disco D.

And we meet again.

This is like three times, isn't it? This is it. It's tiebreaker.

And then we'll dodge each other the rest of the season.

I just ran Chuck 55 last week, first round. He blew it up, but he beat me. So

today, I hope we don't blow up, but we're going to try to get to win light,

redemption.

Obviously, we haven't been doing good this year, so we needed a test.

We stayed over Sunday at Dragway 42.

Unfortunately, the car got away from me. I wrecked and hit the wall. We got the

car fixed.

We got the fiberglass done, header, zoomie, lower control arm, rocker panel,

quarter panel, wheel tub. Now that it's here and it's back together, we need to

turn some wind lights on. I know it's late and we've been struggling, but it's

time to turn the season around.

As a team championship, we dropped to number five this week, but we're ten

points behind the other three that are in front of us. So it's a very close,

tight race.

Problem, though, I drew my teammate again for two weekends in a row. Last

weekend it was Robin Roberts.

This weekend it is my new teammate, Jerry Bird.

Jerry Bird's got a potentially brutally nasty fast car.

that I can tell you that probably 20 drivers here are smart enough to be

of, and I'm one of those.

It wasn't as fast as what we went, so it probably would have went this way

anyway. But it doesn't matter. It would have been nice to see a good, nice,

close race.

I wasn't trying to beat you.

You know I'm rich like that. I know, but I mean. I want you to try to beat me. I

know, but I mean, I feel like you're going to be in a car right now to win

to go further.

If that's what you did, I'm a little upset with you because I never would

ever, ever, ever want you to do that.

the blower off the motor, put new burst panels on it, and got it ready for next

round. You know, they're waiting for us up there at the start line. You know,

it's a lot of work between rounds to get ready for the next round.

Yeah, you know, my team, I've got another guy in. I've got Rich Bruder,

awesome. So there's two of us in, which means we're making points. We're getting

We're having some type of electrical issue. The car goes out and starts

misfiring. So that's the issue we're having. So we're doing our best trying

figure it out.

I've been working on that car since I got here.

and then I do a burnout and you still ain't ready and we're having to shut the

cars off. The car's heating up. They don't even tell us they're broke for

however long over with it working on it.

And then we go out here and, you know, the car's too damn hot to make the run

and trying to make the run.

It's just fixed and get it out here if it ain't fixed don't bring it to the

lanes And I can tell you from this point forward no more nice guy for me. I

don't give it who it is I don't care if it's my team captain Ty Kelly.

And I feel like it's a little warmer this round, so I wanted to get after it

little bit more in the front half of the run, and my dad didn't. He said it was

too hot, but I felt like now the air is, like, a little bit worse than earlier,

and I felt like it's going to need that extra power to lead the line.

So it's just crossing fingers, and hopefully it's going to make a run

him.

You know, three of us went in the second round.

Jim did well taking out Kai Kelly. I mean, there's some heavy hitters that's

already gone, but there's still heavy hitters that's in.

Hopefully we can go ahead and gain some ground and figure out if we can go ahead

and, you know, throw up some spots. That's what we need.

together since day one. It's hard putting your 405 guy in a trailer.

The idle wants to go up. The gas pedal dropped to the floor.

I knew what it was. I killed the car.

My daughter is running down there to line me up, and I'm yelling for her to

help. Dave, being the racer that he is, he's not taking a win like that.

blade connector back on, and we're in.

Clay Cole has proved to be one of the faster guys this year. He's on Kai's

but he's done the dirty work for us, taking Kai out a couple times.

Man, hey, what's good is we know what number it's going to take.

I just don't know about the track, man. Yeah, it's going to be worse now than it

was all ago. I know.

Both the cars are fast. We've talked about this all week. I know it. We've

talked about this all week. We know what we run. Yep. You just got to be able to

do it. You just got to be able to get it now. Yep. So round two, it's bound to

happen. We get Chuck 55.

When you're teammates with somebody, you share a lot of information.

I know what Chuck runs just like Chuck knows what I run.

So whoever gets more aggressive with the tune -up and the track actually holds

it, that's who's going to win this race.

So not what we wanted. Out of everybody, I mean, we drew each other. Both of us

made some pretty good hits. We both know what number it's going to take to run

it. So it's going to be whoever can get that number down the track today.

We're going to put what we think the track is going to handle and see if we

pull this W out.

They were more aggressive with their tune -up, and the track didn't hold it.

Sucks nobody else on my team made it, but when you race a teammate like I just

raced Chuck, the good thing you can think about is one of us is going on to

points for the team. So I'm not sure where that's going to land us. I haven't

even looked to see what all teams made it in.

But hopefully we stay in third.

The gas gets out and the studs are broken.

Maple Grove, round three. We've been fighting some issues with the car.

We're going down the track, and the burst panel keeps popping.

Sometimes it just pops the burst panel, but sometimes it can do more damage than

that. So we've been lucky to come back and put new burst panels in the motor.

got to do that ground wire for the camsink. We have the crew over here

It's Robin's crew and Brian's crew there helping us out. It was a team effort to

get the car back up there ready for the next round.

I try to do a burnout and the car just dies.

So I try it again and it did the same thing.

I've been racing for a while.

It ain't hard to do a burnout in a big tire of water.

So I knew there was some type of an issue.

And somehow, I guess from the blower popping every time, the map sensor got

unplugged. So it was just a line. So the extra booth came there and broke the

fitting.

Well, that was probably the slowest winning pass in history at MPK.

I just decided to drive it down through there. I mean, it doesn't do us any good

to go out there and make a killer lick and hurt a part or take a chance on

pairing something up. So on to the next round.

against Daddy Dave.

doing and put a tune up in that thing and make it all last.

It's tough because we know what each other runs. We test with each other. We

share all of our data together, you know.

But at that point, you just got to put some fast stuff in it and hope your lane

holds it.

I know how good his car runs. He knows how good my car runs.

All we can do is just do the best we can. That's what we're going to do.

which is great for us because we've only been to the semis one other time this

When mine goes down the track, it's literally doing this, getting happy.

I should bend that back up. I'd be scared of that. I ain't going to lie.

I'd be scared. I'd be pulled under the car or something.

I would have made that probably a little bit stronger.

Round three here in Maple Grove, we got Justin Swanstrom. I feel pretty good

about it, man. I really don't care who we got. This car runs so good right now.

Track's getting hotter, so traction isn't as good. It gets slimy.

So we're going to put a tune -up in it that we know will go, and we're going to

go try and put that W and keep gaining points.

So going up against Nate Saylor, listen, I knew we had to be on our game. It was

a good drag race. He just put about a car on me at the other end. He's running

extremely fast right now. But I'm happy with what we did. We were able to get

out of first round, go into third round. We're going to capitalize.

We're going to get better. Next track we're going to, it's going to be a

cooler weather.

The points, for me, mean a big deal because all the rest of my team's been

I've had a lot of parts failures lately. We struggled.

With just the car at the beginning of the season, it's just been a bad season

for us. All we know to do is keep our head down and keep pushing.

I've won championships, and I've won individual races, and this year it's

just can't make it there. So, you know, just thinking about it, I get a little

emotional about the fact that I'm in the finals and I have a chance to win.

This year has proven how competitive and crazy MPK is.

There's no easy draws from first round to the finals, but you've got to get

through everybody to do it.

I'm not a liar or nothing like that, so I'm going to be honest with you. I let

go of the button and went, like I swear to God, I thought I went red.

I was like, I got on the radio, I was like, he had to have guessed.

I would never, on our friendship, I would never guess. I 100 % let go of the

button and was like, but I saw the green light when I went by. I know I left a

little early on, Jim, and there's so many guys that won't admit that.

Look, I let go of the button early, nervous enough that I thought that, hey,

could have went red.

But when I did it and I hit it, I legitimately felt bad because I don't

be doing that.

I don't like to do that to people, whether it's intentional accident or

the case is. That's just not my style.

It's all right. You won, buddy. Good job. I know. And, hey, this is a better

sweep for me because I hate to do that to anybody. I hate when people do it to

me. He is a true sportsman because he didn't just say, no, I've seen green. He

admitted that, you know, he let off the button early, and that happens.

It's not he didn't guess. He just let off the button early. He didn't go up

there with the intention of guessing.

But, you know, it happens.

And, you know, at the end of the day, we're in the final round. There's

to be ashamed of.

I got beat by the, you know, the man that we all strive to be like.
