We had our first proper rounders match against the girls yesterday,

and it didn't go great.

We're just days away from playing the all island champs, and honestly,

I'm a little bit worried.

Match didn't go great.

I think it's because we were treating it like a training session, not like,

not treating it like an actual match, because we thought it might be like an easy win

or like, some of us might have thought, oh, yeah, we're already done for.

And we didn't learn from our mistakes either.

It's just, I think we were all a bit nervous at the start as well.

Like, I know myself, I was nervous because it was, like, the very first match

and it's like, full match, full on.

But I think it was a good idea, seeing how we're playing the All-Ireland champions

in a few days. Like, as if we're gonna actually stand the chance against them.

I think that, like, when Shane or Jordan were giving out,

I think that some of us need to realise that it's for the good of us as well.

Like, they're not just saying it for the crack and we need

to take on board what they say.

So I think, like, they're not giving out just for.

For the benefit of themselves like.

I...you know, it's about time some of the lads started taking responsibility

for the team within itself, because they can't just rely on me and Shane.

So, yeah, I think that's the next real task at hand, is giving responsibility

to one of the players to be able to command the lads on the field.

I think we're doing really well in all the sports that we come across.

We've sort of fallen behind a bit in rounders.

I think we need to, like, get back on track.

From the start, we've seen Cathal,

and he's been doing a great job leading.

I know a couple of you said that, so

we think Cathal would be a great man

to have as our captain out there anyway.

But we were thinking of maybe somebody in

around the bases as well, kind of

that showed up really well.

They have a great voice in there, and they're leading well.

So kind of we were thinking maybe Cathal as our captain

and Asher as a little backup as our vice captain.

I don't know, I just didn't think that I was gonna get it.

Like, I don't know.

I just didn't think that it was for me.

I understand why Darragh wasn't picked, because he's the pitcher and he's kind of

like a captain of himself, really, you know like?

I don't really think backup should have been Asher.

Like, I get why Cathal was, but Asher, I just don't really

think it should have been, like, really?

And even here, no one really said it should have been him.

Like, everyone had said me or Cathal mostly, and then they just

went and gave it to Cathal and Asher.

So I found that a bit annoying like.

I'm still just gonna help whatever way I can, and hopefully, just,

like, in general, just hopefully make them regret their decision.

It's for kind of a speech I'm doing for a company to their brand new 220 graduates.

So it's kind of, though I play in sports and they're in a work environment...

It's like, similar.

...there's similar things going on.

So if I'm part of a team and they're part of a team, the dynamics

are going to be very similar so.

might be able to relate to him of what it takes and how much work

and sacrifice it takes to get there, because it's not easy.

And then when I was 16, I won my second one.

How did you manage, like, between the boxing and school and,

like, would you ever, like, kind of lash out at anyone at school or.

This is where you let all your anger out, and this is where all your emotions

and your problems, you walk in the door with them and you leave them here.

I was playing a match one time and it was like two years ago, and I was marking a lad,

and he went up to me, and I'd went and I had scored, I'm pretty sure, and he

was like, 'what are you doing, ya n word?'

And then, like, this is the first time that anyone had ever said it to my face.

Just like, literally the minute he said it, just anger like.

Just the first thing I did was lash out and hit him across the shins and,

'cause it hurts like, when someone says that to you.

And the ref was gonna give me a red,

but then I told him what he had said and I told the managers,

and then so he got suspended then from the club,

like, the club managers did it, so.

Yeah, but then online as well but,

online doesn't really matter to me, to be honest, because they're far away

and they have nothing better to do.

Who in the boxing world would you kinda look up to or just take inspiration from?

I don't know. I don't really watch pro boxing or any of this, I'd say,

I have to say be close to home.

Our women's team is running the show at the moment in my circle, basically,

like, I've treated my world champions, Kelly Harrington, Olympic gold medalist,

so try and don't look...

...try and get inspiration from close to you.

Like, when you're jumping, it feels way higher than, like, you think it is.

when we're playing rounders.

And, like, when we're just doing sports, we're always just, like, messing around

with each other, having a laugh.

Hugo had an idea yesterday, like, after the camp, we should all have

a sleepover, and I thought, like, it was a good idea.

Like, I found it very fascinating what people worry about, like,

not in, like, that sense, about, like, oh, what do you worry about?

It's like how different things are for people.

I worry about money.

Like, money's a big thing like.

Like when we grow up, like, there's so many people living,

like, still with their parents and, like, their early thirties and stuff.

I want, like, an apartment.

I don't want to move out as early as possible.

I'm worried about my mum dying.

go out with my friends whenever I want.

Me and Dara were saying, like, the vibes are really good,

so, you know, it's really nice just being able to talk with some of the people,

and with the group there's some people that you talk to

about certain things and then other people

that you talk about other things, and then with other lads, you know,

you just kind of talk about life and,

I think we all listen very well and talk to each other very well.

Like, it's been, like, one big family.

That's the best way I can possibly say it.

Everybody's much better friends.

There's no more, you could talk to anybody,

you could have a good conversation with them and not sort of have that awkward,

'we've only really talked three times.'

Like, now everybody's sort of like a friend group, like, instead of a bunch

of people going together to do sports.

If we are gonna do the rounders match, we're gonna have to try very hard.

Kind of nervous for them, honestly.

They've done so well over the past two weeks, so I hope they

play really well and at the end of the day, just do themselves proud.

It's the day before the big match, and, um, you know, I'm starting to get a little

bit nervous, and the lads are, too, but I think, you know,

it's important that we come together today and, come together as a collective group

and just talk about what needs to be done tomorrow.

Right. So, little bit of a game plan thing.

We're going to show you kind of roughly how we're going

to line out our team first.

So we have ten lads.

Unfortunately, it's down to nine.

I have Hugo and Patrick, and they saw me yesterday.

I was in bits.

...honestly, I was,

I thought that Patrick might have had to, like, carry me some of the way

to the train station. I was in bits.

Because of that, he's going to be sitting out and he's going to be on the sideline with us,

with me and Shane watching you there.

I need you to work as a unit.

I need you to be all working together, talking to each other,

it's like, 'yeah, Charlie here on second base.

'Asher, you're letting the guys know, Cathal',

so if we can work together as a squad, it's going to be absolutely beautiful.

So look, we have our captain, we have our vice captain.

So we have Cathal out there,

we have Asher inside.

Darragh, look, I've said it before.

you're not one of our captains, but they're a leader,

pitcher's always a leader. Okay?

Up that middle spine of our team needs to be really, really communicative,

really, really vocal, okay?

Cathal you're out there.

We're trusting you, right? And we're believing in you.

You need to do what you can do and show us this team are going to come,

and they're going to expect next to nothing from you guys.

So you get out there, communicate, show your teammates where you want them,

and lead by example as well, all right?

You know, I love how seeing, like, especially certain people

getting better and better as time goes on, including myself.

So Darragh's gonna be pitching it in, and then, Asher, you're gonna be inside,

you're gonna be catching. So we need you as our voice as well.

You're gonna be telling the lads where we're gonna go with the ball.

You're doing great calling so far.

So every day, every time the ball comes in, you're letting us know the play

is first or first and third or whatever.

So you're doing great with that so far. So we need to hear you lots.

Your job is now to be able to identify where

the ball needs to be thrown.

If it's base one, base two, base three.

We really need to hear you loud and vocal, so I want to hear your voice

every single game. Okay?

I think it was a good call from Shane and Jordan, and also he has a really good

overview of the entire pitch, so he's able to kind of say where to go

or where the gaps are.

We came in the morning, we did rounders, more rounders,

more rounders, more rounders.

And then there was a bit of rumours going around that we were doing fat biking.

We decided make use to ourselves and we decided to help with the barbecue.

Because of my dyspraxia, balance just never came easy.

So, you know yourself, you try to learn.

When I was small, couldn't get it and then get frustrated and get upset.

As I got older, started to see it as, yeah, can't do that,

big whoop.

I nearly broke myself up a couple times, but I was fine the end.

And then after we had a barbecue, which is really nice.

I had a bit fun, but then I fell off,

I fell off the electric bike and my hand is like. ..I don't know if you can see,

but it's kind of cut.

But I'm excited for the match tomorrow, and I think we're gonna do very well.

Like...we all talk to each other at the end, in a nice manner

and, like, I'm a bit sad to see the end so soon,

and hopefully, really wish we win tomorrow.

Well, when I first came into this, I didn't think we had a chance of winning that match.

Like, I won't lie, I just kind of thought it was going to be a bit dodge.

And when you said it was the All-Ireland, I was kind of, no, but I think

tomorrow we do have a good chance.

And some of you really impressed me like,

Ois�n, you were talking today, you said, you'd no, eye to hand coordination,

and you caught the ball the other day in the game, and it was a high ball as well,

and I just thought, some of you have come on so well, and I think we all

learned a bit about ourselves as well.

And then, like, the two of ye like, to Shane, like, we wouldn't have, we wouldn't have

gotten anywhere without you and Jordan as well, like the same.

And it was just a great experience, and it's sad

that it's come to an end, really.

It never really occurred to me that we were gonna have to, like,

properly play a rounders match against All-Ireland champions.

But now that I think about it, I think we might, like, there's a slim chance

that we're gonna win, it's not zero!

Sort of like, sort of sense of finality to it.

Given that's our last day at school, it's like, yeah.

First or second day, we did rounders.

It became pretty repetitive because we were still working on the basics.

But, like, after you get into it and you start to realise, like,

that it's a lot more than just the throwing and catching, and, like, the batting.

Like, I've really started to enjoy rounders last week.

Last week, when I first came in, obviously it was a long drive,

so I had a lot of time to think.

and, I don't know, the night before, like, I slept well, and then I wasn't nervous,

and then the morning, I was, like,

I was kind of second guessing everything that I thought about.

Then we started chatting to each other and all, like, the worries kind of, like,

went away, and then once it came to the sports, I think that's

when we all kind of gelled together.

And, yeah, I don't want it to end, really.

I feel the same way.

I think he has a group of lads and myself watching ye, you know,

grow a bond kind of reminds me of, you know, me and my teammates, you know?

And you honestly can call yourself a band of brothers because,

you know, that's what you are.

You know, your brothers to each other.

You all come from different places than that,

but, you know, at the end of the day, you have this, and you'll be...

...you'll hopefully remember this for the rest of your life.

You know, you can look back at this, but, honestly, it was really nice

to hear that, and let's go win this game of rounders tomorrow.

It was a really good day.

Well, it was more, it was a very good day for me.

I really enjoyed the barbecue that we did after the fat biking.

I'm gonna really miss the entire camp and all the lads.
