in this station a few days ago

is an all too familiar story of addiction

and failing mental health
plaguing all first responders.

For many of them, alcohol is an escape

from the pain of the horrible
things that we see every day.

When a fellow officer or any
human being is struggling with

alcohol or depression, ignoring
it is not looking out for them.

Lying for them is not being their friend.

Extend a hand, a firm one if necessary.

That is the right thing to do.

That could save a life.
