but today I'm coming
to you live from my loft,

which we have turned into a holiday studio.

Now this...

This isn't just an old box to my family.

This is a treasure chest filled with

sweet Christmas memories.

Every worn card, every faded note

holds a holiday recipe
passed down from generation

to generation, with a couple of
new ones added along the way.

This very box filled
with love and tradition

and way too much butter and sugar,

is exactly what inspired the
Family Holiday Baking Challenge.

These, these are some of the amazing women

who have contributed recipes to this box.

Here's my Nana Shirley.

So, this is the challenge.

We have 32 delicious
recipes to bake in 24 days.

Now, I'm not saying
it's going to be perfect.

In fact, there will likely
be some serious disasters

since I haven't done much
baking since I was a kid.

And last time I did, I was using an oven

that was heated with a light bulb.

But we're going to have fun
and I'm going to try my best.

Where every baker should
begin their cookie journey.

This mixer passed down
through three generations

in my family.

We like to think it
has a little bit of magic.

Hey, this dough turned out pretty good.

So you can use whatever
cookie cutter shapes you want.

I have Christmas trees, snowman and stars.

If your dough is too soft,

it will stick to the corners of the stars.

I'm going to be using the Christmas tree.

Just make sure whatever shape you choose

to put little holes in the top

so you can hang it from your tree later.

Be careful everyone at
home if you have pets.

One year we hung a
bunch of cookies on the tree

and our puppy, Bruiser, was home all alone.

real winter would be like.

Novelty hasn't worn off yet.

me to wait until mid-March.

I'll probably reevaluate my life then.

True. But I love the snow
too. Don't get me wrong.

By the time summer
comes around, I am ready.

But I don't know, there's
just something about

being so cozy inside
when it's freezing outside.

What do you miss most about home?

Oh, my family. My family a lot.

My mom's a sweetheart and I have a brother.

He's married, has a kid.
Oh, actually two kids.

Uh, he just had one. I haven't met him yet.

I always wanted a brother or sister.

When I was younger, I would spend my time

getting lost in books or
playing my imagination games.

Imagination games? What are those?

Just make-believe stuff.

I'd cut the bottom out of a cardboard box

and paint the front like a TV set.

And I'd put on shows from
the inside for my parents.

Really? -Yeah.

And what kind of shows?

Everything from news
to dancing competitions.

I even had a nature show.
I used my stuffed animals.

The amazing
life, the wild teddy bear.

Accent and all.

Mm-hmm.

That's really quite cool.

So basically you were one of the kids that

pretended to be an astronaut

and then you actually
grew up to become one.

I guess.

I was pretty bossy too.

I had a remote control out of cardboard

and I'd yell at my parents
to change the channel.

So not much has changed there.

I'm kidding.

You and your brother
ever do stuff like that?
