[The White Olive Tree]

[Episode 13]

[This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental.]

Dad.

You landed two hours ago.

What took you so long?

Traffic jam.

Come.

Sit here.

Okay.

It's damp and cold in the south.

The air conditioner

is not warm enough.

Get ready to eat.

By the way,

this time,

you went to Dicheng straight from Eastern Country for a checkup.

You didn't get hurt, did you?

No.

Just some scratches.

The checkup is mandatory

as required by the volunteer organization.

Okay, let's eat.

Well, this chicken soup

has been simmering all afternoon.

Here.

Okay.

The soup is really good.

I’ve been simmering it the entire afternoon.

It's delicious.

Where did you get these from?

Luo Zhan brought them.

He said,

the nutritious products

are to replenish my health;

the books

are to relieve my boredom.;

the drawings are your work.

He said,

there are too few professional people like you.

So,

your leave can't be too long.

You need to return to work sooner.

During your break,

you can take a look at the drawings.

Don't be too idle.

Anyway, he said a lot of things.

If I don't know him well,

I would suspect that

you are often

wronged by him.

I am indeed often wronged by him.

That's why I want to leave him hanging for a while.

The final list of winners

for the annual Boshi International News Award

will be announced on the 29th of this month.

It is reported that

this year's shortlisted works

for the Boshi International News Award

[Breaking news: Shortlist for the Boshi International News Award]

include a photograph taken by

Chinese journalist, Song Ran,

titled "Candy".

Many media comment that

this photograph

is very likely to win the gold prize.

Song Ran is an excellent journalist.

Her experience at Eastern Country

imbues her work

with deep emotions

and a unique perspective.

I'm full, Dad.

I'll go to use the bathroom.

[Reporter Song]

Director Liu.

It's still not too late.

The results are not out yet.

Please contact the organizing committee

to remove this photo immediately.

Shen Bei.

Is the award something you can present

or withdraw at your discretion?

This will cause a big stir.

Of course I know.

But compared to the harm

this photo brings to Song Ran,

it is nothing.

You don't know what happened

when this photo was taken,

Nor do you know

the extent of the influence

the subsequent event had

on everyone present.

No one dares to watch that scene

and that moment again.

So this photo must be removed.

You can submit any photo

but this one.

Shen Bei,

the selection of these photos

was done with Song Ran's input.

Stop being so full of yourself, okay?

The person who is scared to face it

is probably yourself.

Director Liu, you're right.

It's myself who is afraid to look at that photo.

I'm afraid to see

anything related to that day,

including you.

So I wasn't actually

standing up for you.

You're still the same.

You still like it

frame yourself as the bad person.

Do you think that

you've let down the Eastern Country?

Because I think so too.

Ever since I came back from the Eastern Country,

I dare not watch

any news about the Eastern Country,

and I dare not even more

look at the things I've taken.

So I don't even want to know

which photo was submitted

for the evaluation.

Like you,

I chose to escape.

After these days,

I've also understood

that human's joy and sorrow are not mutual.

Without experiencing the same things

or facing the same situation,

they wouldn't understand.

So Shen Bei,

running away is not shameful,

but neither does it work.

I want to help you,

because,

you're the only one who can help me.

Okay?

Shen Bei,

you’ll get better.

[Tranquilizer]

We'll be fine.

[4:30 a.m.]

[5 a.m.]

[6 a.m.]

Zan.

I'm going out for a bit.

The final award list

of the Boshi International News Award

has been announced recently.

The highest honour,

the gold prize of the year,

was claimed by

the photo "Candy", taken by the Chinese journalist Song Ran.

The experts who evaluated the awards

gave this work high praise,

auding its capture of the decisive moment

where suffering,

tragedy,

hope,

and the future of a war intertwine,

noting its high news value.

It's okay.

Congratulations to Song Ran

on winning the Boshi International News Award.

Thank you, Director.

Here.

Cheers.

Thank you.

Ran Ran.

Congratulations.

You've got a call.

Go ahead.

Thank you.

Hey, everyone.

Back to your positions.

Get to work.

Hello.

I'm Song Ran.

Congratulations.

Dr. Pei!

Is that you?

Reporter Song

hasn't forgotten me?

That's great.

I saw the news and

immediately looked for your station's phone number.

As expected, when I mentioned your name, Song Ran,

the switchboard immediately connected me.

Stop making fun of me.

But,

I'm really glad

to hear your voice.

Is this genuine?

I feel like you all don't really want to see me.

You all disappeared without a trace.

Disappeared?

You're in the Eastern Country,

and you still don't get to meet Sasin

and Benjamin?

I couldn't reach them.

I did hear about Benjamin.

He has been in the Special Forces.

He even refused to take rotations

and remained in

the most dangerous team among the Special Forces.

I

met him once while treating the wounded.

Honestly,

considering how he was covered in wounds,

it's a miracle that he's still alive.

As for Sasin,

I only know that he quit his job as a reporter

and disappeared.

What?

Dr. Pei.

There's a patient.

Alright.

I'm hanging up.

I know how to find you now.

I'll call you often.

By the way,

send my regards to Li Zan.

Dr. Pei.

You're up.

Dad.

Did you go grocery shopping?

What happened to your face?

You hurt yourself while shaving?

Accidentally.

Dad.

how about you

try my cooking today?

Sure.

I'd love to.

You're in a good mood today.

Are you celebrating something?

Here, Dad.

Try it.

Not bad.

Are you celebrating the female reporter winning the award?

Are you in a relationship?

Dad,

how did you come to this conclusion?

No one knows the son better than his father.

When you saw the news that day,

your smile

looked suspicious.

I'm sorry to tell you

that you're wrong.

I'm not wrong.

At most, it is for now

that she's not your girlfriend yet.

But when I saw her photo,

I feel

as if

we've met before.

What does this mean?

Connection at first sight.

The fact that she received an award

means she is outstanding.

I have a feeling

that she is destined to have a special connection with us Li family.

Our neighbour, Aunt Liu,

knows you're back.

She told me that day

that you loved her glutinous rice balls.

Dad,

I'm going back to Liangcheng tomorrow.

If I stay longer,

you'll find out sooner or later.

I saw that you won an award.

You're so incredible.

Song Ran, your photos are taken so well.

-Next time, if there's such a chance, -I need to learn from you.

you have to take me with you.

Ran.

[Song Zhicheng]

Congratulations.

What did I say?

You'll definitely win the award.

To celebrate for you,

I specially invited our colleagues

to have dinner together.

Congratulations.

Song.

Thank you, Dad.

Enjoy your meal.

Today

is my treat.

My daughter said it's her treat today.

Let's get drunk.

Come on.

Cheers.

Drink up.

I saw the photo.

This is not my expertise,

but since you won,

it's probably quite good.

Don't get arrogant nor impatient.

The typical Ran-style congratulations.

[Zan]

It's me.

Congratulations.

Reporter Song.

Thank you.

Are you

doing fine?

The photo winning an award,

making more people aware of and pay attention to

the Eastern Country

was definitely my wish,

but I'm not doing fine.

I'm fine.

After knowing the story

behind the photo

and experiencing

all these incidents,

how could I be fine?

Are you hanging up?

No.

Listen.

♫You're dancing in the grace♫

♫Moonlight, touch your face♫

Do you

It's just the two of us now.

Even if you make a mistake,

no one will laugh at you.

♫Cause you're so beautiful♫

♫This love will never change♫

♫You are so beautiful♫

Mr. Li,

Jiang Yu caused trouble again.

I'm sorry,

Ms. Fu.

Jiang Yu has troubled you.

Jiang Yu's

family background is complicated.

So his personality

might be flawed.

I hope for your understanding.

Logically speaking,

it's only right for teachers to tolerate students.

But Jiang Yu

can't always be solving problems through fighting.

This will lead to big mistakes in the future.

Of course, I understand.

His parents are not here anymore

and his grandparents are old.

He indeed lacks family education.

As teachers,

we also hope to bear some responsibilities.

But,

I'm also afraid it'll affect him.

I understand.

You're right.

Ms. Fu,

I'll find a way.

Okay.

That's all for now.

Mr. Luo.

Why are you here?

I'm not a nosy person.

But, your problems

are not irrelevant to me.

They'll affect my work.

Last time at the Dicheng Hospital,

the doctor said your ears were ringing

and you felt dizzy

because of...

because of reasons I don't know.

You didn't tell me

nor tell the doctors.

So I have to find out myself.

Theoretically,

everything that happened before can be traced.

If I could find the cause,

I'm sure I can help.

Then,

I...

Then you found out

it was Jiang Lin who was with me that day

and found out he died

that day.

Finding out these

is not difficult for you.

But to be able to find Jiang Yu's school

shows you've put a lot of effort.

Not sure

if you really think I've put in effort

or if you're mocking me.

But if you could tell me

about the past

you can't let go,

even if you're mocking me,

I'll pretend I didn't hear it.

I can't tell you.

Because I don't know either.

You...

You...

don't remember?

I don't know.

I only know

we were together

till the very last moment

and then the explosion happened.

I don't remember

how did Jiang Lin die.

But I think it must have something to do with me.

Luo Zhan.

Did I kill Jiang Lin?

No way.

I've known you for so long.

You only know how to save people.

You won't harm anyone.

Even if I do,

you won't.

If the bomb goes off,

naturally there will be casualties.

Why do you think so much?

You...

You being alive now

can only prove that you are luckier.

Lucky?

Sometimes,

I really don't wish to have this sort of luck.

As the most authoritative

news award

in the world today,

the Boshi International News Award chooses such a photo.

Is the act of exchanging hardships for fame and fortune

to be sorted after by millions of people

a social progress

or a setback?

This reporter, Song Ran,

has always been proud of hunting for the strange and miserable,

distorting human nature and pursuing fame and profit.

If you have warned those kids,

instead of taking pictures,

they wouldn't have died.

Morally bankrupt.

Song Ran, you don't deserve to be a journalist.

Is fame more important than human life?

Do you have any conscience?

You're exploiting someone's tragedy

for personal gain.

The children died for nothing because of you.

Vulture.

Do Song Ran's parents know about this?

Ran.

Ran.

Ran.

♫Stepping on my heart alone♫

♫You're triggering a bomb unknown♫

Song Ran.

You...

♫The sun of life reflects♫

♫Just stay where you are, don't go♫

♫Exploding into pieces♫

♫We fall, we're falling slow♫

♫We fall, we're falling slow♫

Reporter Song.

Are you okay?

I'm fine.

I'm just busy right now.

I'm in a meeting.

Is there any problem?

Nothing.

Go ahead with your tasks.

Give me one.

Give me one.

Hi there.

Could you help me play a game?

I can get a balloon if I win the game.

Adults must be smarter than kids.

Please help me.

I...

She's helping me play the game.

Come here, quick!

I want one too.

That's so cute.

He's calling for you.

Coming.

Help him catch us.

Thank you.

Thank you.

You have to win, okay?

You have to win, okay?

So adults can't win either.

Adults fall for it too?

Forget it.

Let's go.

He's right.

How difficult can a kid's game be?

It's my fault for being absent-minded

♫Have you ever found someone♫

♫Who sees right through your smile♫

♫Your eyes♫

♫You're sick from the miles♫

♫Tires are low♫

♫But in his heart♫

♫There's a place to go♫

♫He will be the light and the darkness♫

♫In your highs and lows♫

♫And say, Te Amo♫

♫Still we don't know love♫

♫But I feel strong♫

♫When I'm with you♫

♫Just say, Te Amo♫

♫Still we don't know how♫

♫But I feel loved♫

♫Te Amo♫

This world is indeed follows the law of conservation.

♫Still we don't know love♫

There is malice from strangers,

♫But I feel strong♫

but at the same time,

♫When I'm with you♫

there is kindness from strangers.

♫Just say, Te Amo♫

♫Still we don't know how♫

♫But I feel loved♫

♫When I'm with you♫

♫Te Amo♫

♫Te Amo♫

♫Te Amo♫

♫Te Amo♫

Song Ran.

You...

You are in no position to judge her!

How irresponsible of you

to stand on moral high grounds

and comment on things you haven't witnessed

and people you don't even know!

War Orphan.
