It was such a big deal,

because it has been rumored

were "dating."

So for him to come onstage like that

but Trina and I have something up our sleeves

I didn't realize that they had given me

And that's one of the highest,

most prestigious awards

This is my "wasband," Gabe.

So thanks for coming in today.

Gabe's in L.A. for work this week,

so I scheduled a meeting with the therapist

so we can try to get some closure on our divorce.

I just really hope that if he and I can be civil,

then he can rebuild his relationship with the boys.

Trina, you know, I think we can start with you,

and just-- what-- what are you hoping for for today.

I spoke to Dr. Amie,

and I was telling her about how it seemed like

we both had some unresolved questions

and some things we wanted to get off--

off of our chest,

as it has to do with our marriage.

One of the things that Dr. Amie and I have been discussing

you know, is why, after our divorce,

did you also divorce the boys?

There were times when I felt like I did reach out to the boys.

But I don't feel like they--

I don't feel like I was reciprocated.

And I know you'll be like, "Well, they're just kids."

But, no, they were not kids.

At that time, they were 20 and 17.

So, I mean, to me it was kind of

easier for me to heal.

I think that's a cop-out, and you're the adult.

And even though now they're grown up,

you are still the adult and you are the dad in this situation.

So, you know what? Man up, Gabe.

What was your relationship with them before the breakup?

I mean, I'm not saying I was the only one there,

but I was-- due to your career,

though-- I know you're about to go on. Just hold on.

- I'm not gonna go on. - Just hold on.

Due to Trina's career,

I felt like I was a single parent at times.

At the same time, I felt like

I was able to raise another man's kids

but yet her and I were never really, uh,

willing or able to have kids.

That's not a fair statement.

Gabe, if you're gonna bring that part of it up,

- we have to bring all of it up. - Okay.

I always commended you in being that dad

and being that person in their lives.

I have never said-- I talked negatively about you, I did.

- But not in regard to that... not ever. - Oh, you did.

Gabe can't act like a child

when it comes to his relationship with the boys.

What happened between us should be between us,

and it shouldn't have affected his relationship

with the boys in any way.

It's like he had a tantrum about our divorce

and took it out on the boys.

So let's talk about how you feel criticized

by some of the words that Gabe chooses to use

or the things that he chooses to say to you.

Yeah, even at the bar-- when you came to the bar--

he tried to make it seem like I'm incapable

of doing things by myself and on my own.

He's like, "Who helped you with it?"

Uh, I'm no carpenter-- don't misunderstand me,

but it was my idea that was conveyed

to make it come to fruition.

I'm not sure because you always

give it out.

But you can't just anticipate negativity.

Sometimes I feel like I'm negative,

but I'm just negative towards Trina.

I don't know why. I don't know if because

there's maybe some bitterness in me,

maybe some envy or jealousy...

What do you think you'd be jealous of?

Maybe the fact that 11 years of my life

I was supporting her and I was supporting her career.

And I feel like her career was able to take off.

I'm not saying my career didn't,

but my career was just, uh, you know, a gradual...

But the thing is we've been divorced

for-- for over 14 months now.

and I don't see any change in your status in your life.

But for me it's not-- it hadn't been 14 months.

Because it took me a year to get over my divorce.

- But that's not my fault. - So it's two months to me.

- Nope. - I didn't run off after my divorce,

and find somebody else to fill the-- to fill some sort of void.

But sleeping with every woman in Atlanta,

didn't make me a passing and fainting memory for you.

When you actually love a person,

I'm seeing a situation here

is being heard in the relationship.

And then you're going out and having multiple affairs.

And I'm wondering what those affairs gave to you.

gave me a sense of control.

How do you feel hearing that?

- Uh-- - You better not--

You better not cry, I'm just telling you right now.

You can't-- you can't control people's emotions and feelings.

Okay, but it's been a year. Go ahead.

Well, yes, it has been a year.

But even in this year, why are we still arguing about the same things?

After our divorce, I wasn't reaching out to you.

I wasn't calling. I want--

I didn't want to hear anything about Trina.

If I heard Toni Braxton, I'd turn off the radio.

That's so petty.

So... I'm serious.

I was so mad-- and she doesn't believe me,

but I was just so mad and upset about it.

I don't think I'm really ever gonna reconnect

and be friends again.

And I don't know if we are friends right now.

I feel like it's just... I don't know.

It's confusing to be friends with an ex.

It's difficult. It's not easy.

A lot of people can't do it.

So I think that's progress

just for your own personal selves.

As things seem to be flowing,

we probably need to talk about things just a little bit more.

Especially his relationship with the boys.

Well, 'cause, you know, last time I talked to you,

and I was with you and Tamar, and we were at the park.

And I don't wanna have this conversation in front of Tamar

because Tamar can sometimes be a little judgmental.

I mean, I get it. Don't misunderstand.

You, as my sisters, you guys saw

- everything that I've been through. - Yeah.

And so I did get defensive,

- but at the same token, I get it. - Okay.

- You understand what I'm saying? - That's fair.

But I did end up meeting with Gabe and the counselor.

I speak to Towanda mostly because

Towanda is usually unbiased.

However, she gives a pretty no-holds-barred approach

to what she thinks about the situation.

We talked about the boys, Towanda.

Good. Cutting the boys out

after you guys' divorce, he wanted to hurt you

as much as he possibly could

because he was hurting

because he didn't want a divorce.

Gabe did not want a divorce. He didn't.

Trina can make up her own decisions

when it comes to her love life.

However, when it comes to my nephews,

I just wanna make sure that Gabe is clear

about his motives with Eric and Caleb.

I have to be honest with myself, Towanda.

Please.

- Can I be no-holds-barred? - Oh, that'd be great.

Our family can be so frickin' judgmental.

We are. We can be.

And that's why I get so defensive sometimes.

Because I'm like, "Jeez, I don't want this right now."

I just want you guys to listen to me.

I want you guys to hear me, I want you to be my sisters.

Okay, let me just tell you this.

There are moments where I'm not--

- I can't even speak on behalf of anyone else but me. - But you. I get it.

And I can say that there are a lot of times--

I've sat by the sidelines

and watched a lot of things happen.

- Yes. - And I've said nothing.

- Mm-hmm. - I've said nothing.

I didn't judge it because love is love.

But I can tell you that facts are facts.

- Words can't change that. - That's true.

And the fact still remains that if Gabe was over you,

he would not be sitting with you with that counselor.

That's it. And put a period on the end of that.

Period.

Gabe really, really loves Trina.

And I don't think that when you love a person

the way that Gabe loved Trina,

that it's easy to get over.

When you actually love a person,

you don't just wake up the next day,

and say, "Mmm, I don't love you anymore."

That's not really love.

You will always and forever love a person

that you say that you love. Always.

I still have unresolved issues with Gabe

in his relationship with the boys.

So I asked him to meet again,

but Towanda doesn't need to know about it.

I'm afraid if I told her

she might try to talk me out of it

or tell my other sisters,

who may then take a position on it

before finding out the end result.

At the end of the day, I like me

for whatever stage of life I am in right now.

That's awesome, Trina, and I support it.

But let me tell you something else that I support.

The fact that I'm gonna hurry up

and get you out of this car since you have gas.

I know when it's time to eat and when it's not time to eat.

This one you can eat at.

You know, this was like all sizes and stuff.

People had stomachs and legs and thighs.

It was different. It was like the whole eight-piece

on the runway.

Before we got divorced, you met some other guy

and got into a relationship, and I'm like, okay, well,

she found another role model figure to fill my place--

- He'll be there for the boys. - But that was-- but that's

I'm telling you I made-- I'm telling you I made excuses for it.

My relationship with Jacent,

that-- that was for me. That had nothing to do with the children.

But I understand how you're saying that you needed

to find an excuse, you know,

to make yourself, I guess, feel better about the situation

about you not being there, about being an absent person.

It shocked me. It-- it shocked me.

- Cause you were-- you were there. - Yeah.

At Bar Chix the other day

when Gabe saw Eric for the first time

in almost a year,

it was so awkward that he didn't hug him

or even seem happy to see him after so long.

- What's going on, old man. - What's up? What's up?

What are you guys up to?

He needs to fix the relationship

and act like a dad again.

How long do they need a role model-- 30? Till they're 30 years old?

Your dad is alive and well and kicking.

I don't pick up the phone

and call my dad, "Hey, what should I...?"

And that's fine. But your dad picks up the phone and calls you.

I probl-- I should've played a bigger role, you know, after the divorce.

And I don't know. It would've been harder for me

to get over our divorce if I would've stuck around

and still been around you and still have to be around the boys.

Maybe it was selfish on me.

But to me, I look at Eric, and I see you.

I don't care who you saw when you looked at him.

You should've saw yourself in his life.

When we were talking to Dr. Amie,

you were like, "You cheated, you cheated, you cheated."

Why is that such an important thing for you to harbor on?

If you can bring up, like, my infidelity

and things that I did in my marriage,

then why can't I bring up your infidelity,

stuff you did as well? You know?

- And I did and I owned it. - I don't know.

It's my ace in the hole. If you're gonna bring up yours,

then I mean, I had this one to bring up as well.

No. But at the end of the day, you have, like, one thing.

Because I felt like you fell in love.

And you had a hard time, like, letting go of him.

I allowed myself to do things that I don't usually do.

I should've divorced him first.

Two wrongs definitely do not make a right.

And I'm regretful, because it's not

something indicative of my behavior.
