A half-century has passed since mankind began moving its burgeoning population to outer space.

Gigantic colonies orbiting the Earth have become mankind's second home,

where people are born, raised and die.

The year is Universal Century 0079.

The group of colonies furthest from Earth, Side 3, have declared themselves the Principality of Zeon

and launched a war of independence against the Earth Federation government.

Both Zeon and the Federation lost half of their respective populations in the war's first month alone.

People lived in fear of their own actions.

Garma Strikes

Garma Strikes!

Is that Zeon's Earth-based air forces?

A squadron has been deployed from the Gaw assault carrier!

That's quite a large fleet.

Relative speed, mach point 780.

Keep it steady.

Something doesn't look right.

I see it!

Their trajectory is too low!

Understood. That'll have to do.

Let's try to do this in one shot.

Ready?

Roger.

Laser lock, stand by.

Ready when you are.

Release laser sensor!

Let's do it!

All right, that's a job well done.

Captain Garma, the Musai capsule is on board.

Hello, Char.

It's not like you to have so much trouble with just one Federation ship.

Say no more, Garma.

Or should I say, Captain Garma Zabi of the Earth Occupation Forces?

Call me Garma, like you did at the Academy.

That's the Trojan Horse.

The ship that even the Red Comet himself couldn't stop.

Are you saying you wouldn't have come out here for any other reason?

Of course not.

I came to pick up an old friend, Char.

Don't forget, that ship managed to re-enter the atmosphere on its own.

Yeah.

We're taking that into account as we calculate its combat potential.

They've had you on constant duty since the guerrilla mop-up operation, right?

Why don't you relax?

I think I'll take you up on that.

However, I'll have you know that you will receive a Zeon Cross if you're successful in this operation.

Thank you.

You've allowed me to prove myself.

Did you come to help make my elder sister think more highly of me?

Don't laugh.

The soldiers are looking.

There aren't enough repair supplies in Block 20!

There's a problem with the electrical circuits!

The hydraulic joints are normal!

I'm measuring the balancer!

Make sure you don't load any duds!

It'll be fine!

Look at you, Hayato.

You're working hard, huh?

The enemy's right in front of us, you know.

Can you learn it in time?

Don't make fun of me!

Kai, aren't you supposed to be doing maintenance on the tank?

I'm already done.

Then you should be standing by at level one battle stations

And what about you?

We couldn't see you on the bridge monitor.

Bright ordered me to find you.

Good work.

We can end this quickly if we send out the Gundam!

That's the only way to break through the Zeon line!

Amuro needs his rest!

But the enemy is building up their forces!

We can't afford to wait for them to make the first move.

I'm in command here!

We have the Gundam and a Core Fighter!

That's enough to break through the middle!

Knock it off, noisy brat!

Look, Bright!

Counterattack with missiles!

All hands, return fire!

Don't allow the Dopp formation near the White Base!

Take this, Trojan Horse!

The Dopps are going around the rear!

They're trying to cut off our escape route!

Bright!

You're disobeying direct orders!

The Dopps attacked before I could carry out your orders!

Mr. Bright, I'm heading out.

Amuro!

Sayla told me about the situation.

Are you all right?

If you push yourself too hard, the enemy can use that to their advantage!

Are you sure, Amuro?

It's not a question of being sure or not!

I have no choice but to do it, right, Mr. Bright?

Yeah.

Bright!

Send out the Gundam!

Did you forget that the Gundam doesn't have any weapons for air combat?

And Amuro is just a kid!

Excuse me, but this shouldn't be a close combat battle.

Why don't we try to take out some of them with the Guntank?

That way, we can take some of the pressure off of Amuro.

Hayato!

Roger.

Convert the Gundam cockpit into Guntank on the double!

We'll keep two Core Fighters on standby in case of a counterattack.

Is that okay with you?

Can we still break through?

How should I know?

Hamble, your team will pursue the enemy ship.

Roger, Captain!

When Guevil's team gets in front, we'll start the attack.

Guevil, go!

Guevil Squadron, moving out!

Hurry up with the Guntank conversion!

Bright, I wonder why the enemy is holding back their attack.

They probably want to capture the White Base intact.

Lower the altitude, Mirai.

Roger!

We won't hand this ship over to Zeon!

Transferring the Guntank top!

Tank assembly, confirmed.

Mr. Bright, we're waiting for your instructions.

Are you ready, Hayato?

You got this?

Yeah, I got it.

I'll leave it to you.

Guntank, advance to the launch position and stand by.

Advancing slowly.

He's completely overworked.

But...

Amuro, we should move away from the White Base as soon as we touch down!

That way, we'll confuse the enemy formations!

I don't agree with that.

The enemy's after the White Base, aren't they?

If we move away, then we won't be able to cover the ship!

You're wrong, Amuro.

The Guntank will be enough to distract the enemy's attention.

That'll let us break up the enemy forces!

Hayato, you should just concentrate on shooting down those enemy planes.

They're trying to use the mountains as a shield.

Tell the ground units to advance.

Seize and capture the enemy ship.

Altitude, 105 meters.

The White Base is holding steady.

The Guntank is clear for launch.

Amuro, you're clear for launch.

Make sure the top is balanced, then you may begin your descent.

Roger, we're taking off.

Hayato, you ready?

Here we go!

What is that thing?

Looks like a tank.

Hayato, which way?

Aft-starboard!

That thing's firepower is insane!

W-What was that?

G-Ground units?

Use the mountains as a shield while the Guntank is slashing through them.

That'll block the planes from attacking.

What was that?

The enemy's ground units!

What?

M-Magella Attack units!

Fall back! Retreat!

Turn around, now!

What are you fools aiming at?!

Forward guns, concentrate your fire on the Magella Attack units!

You're not going to retreat?

We've had experience operating the White Base before you were in command, sir.

Bastard, you're violating regulations!

Didn't you want us to break through the enemy's defensive line?

Very well.

I'll relieve you.

We can handle it.

I just pull this trigger, right?

Yeah, thanks.

Wow, you got it!

Amuro, if we stay in front of the White Base, it'll only strengthen the enemy's attacks!

We can't leave the White Base all by itself!

We have to charge at them and force an escape route!

Amuro, it's Bright!

I want you to handle this.

The Guntank's advances aren't effective enough against the Magella Attack units.

The Gundam!

Can you do it with the Gundam?

Mr. Bright!

We're counting on you!

I'll have Ryu operate the Guntank.

Mr. Bright...

Amuro, Mr. Bright is right!

The Magella Attack units are...

Will it be easier to fight alone?

Roger!

Can you have Kai or Sayla take control of the Guntank?

Sayla should be able to handle it!

They're really ganging up on us.

If we move away from the White Base, it'll break up their formations!

Excuse me, sir.

We just received a report that says that tank is a new type of mobile suit.

A mobile suit?

That thing?

You're telling me that's a Federation mobile suit?

Yes, sir!

Its firepower exceeds that of a regular tank.

Then we should fight mobile suits with mobile suits!

We have three on board, don't we?

Yes, sir.

Deploy the blockade team.

If they reach the ocean, they'll be in Federation airspace.

Tell our troops not to let them advance.

Understood?

Yes, sir!

Understood!

We don't have enough time to transfer the Core Fighter.

Amuro, you have to run!

Roger!

Are you taking it?

I don't have a choice!

Drink this. It's a nutritional supplement.

This is about all I can do for you.

Thanks!

Do your best, okay?

You can count on me!

Ryu, it's okay if you're not confident!

I don't have a choice!

Launching!

I'm not doing this because I've got tons of confidence, either!

Did you say something, Amuro?

It's nothing.

Amuro! Gundam, launching!

Not so fast.

Stand by until the Guntank has launched.

If it's not one thing, it's another!

Garma is fighting hard, as usual.

He'll show why we failed twice to capture their secret weapons.

But he has more troops than we did.

Vice Admiral Dozle will take notice that the setbacks we endured were not my fault.

Is that so?

Is Garma piloting a mobile suit?

No, sir.

Imagine that, he's not piloting.

If he doesn't die fighting the Gundam, I suppose I could go out and save him from a sticky situation.

The Guntank is out front.

If I move further ahead, I'll move away from the White Base just like Hayato said.

Gundam! Amuro!

Yes, Sayla?

You may launch now.

There are three Zakus out there.

Be careful, Amuro.

Okay!

I can't stand taking orders from a woman!

I wish Bright would do it from now on!

I'm heading out!

I-I'm falling!

Ryu!

What's that?

Kai, fall back!

The Gundam will take it from here!

Go for it! Hayato's having a tough time shooting!

Damn you!

Ryu, behind you!

The enemy mobile suit is equipped with a beam rifle!

Is it really that powerful?

W-What are they doing?

Amuro!

Damn pests!

Amuro!

I won't be beaten like this! I won't!

Let's break up the enemy's defenses!

Break them up!

All right, I can do this!

Over there!

I got you!

Damn you!

Amuro, you're...

All right!

Return to base.

You want us to return now, Captain?

You saw the enemy's strength, didn't you?

I want to capture it intact.

For the next battle, we have to completely rethink our strategy.

Prevent them from leaving our territory.

That way we can keep them under surveillance.

I will surely defeat them!

Bright.

We'll have to follow along these mountains in order to enter the continent.

That's right.

Even if this is Garma Zabi's territory, there should be an underground Federation resistance group somewhere.

But how would we contact them?

Bright, everyone's counting on you right now.

I know that, Mirai.

Now, let's go greet our brave Gundam warrior.

Amuro, good job!

Amuro...

Amuro!

Hey Amuro!

Good work!

You did great!

What a snob.

He thinks the Gundam was the only one fighting out there.

How can you say that?

Amuro, we rushed to make a pie so we could all celebrate!

We've got champagne too, Amuro!

Let's have a toast with the pie!

Cheers, Amuro! Cheers, Amuro!

I just want to be alone, okay?

What's your problem, Amuro?

Char!

Is that you, Garma?

Why didn't you tell me just how terrible their secret weapons really are?

Like I said, it's worthy of a Zeon Cross.

Are you thinking about your next chance?

Yes. I won't fail.

I'll help this time, as well.

Nothing would make me happier than to lend you a hand.

You're a lifesaver.

With your abilities, you're worth a hundred men.

Now I can finally prove myself to my elder sister, Kycilia.

Is Lady Kycilia your direct superior?

Char.

What is it?

I have a good friend in you.

Don't get all soft on me!

In order for them to contact Federation Headquarters,

Amuro's mission is to fly over the enemy's position.

However, Char thwarts this mission from the start.

Will the Core Fighter be able to convert into Gundam fast enough to fight Char?

Mobile Suit Gundam.

Next time, "The Core Fighter's Escape."

The Core Fighter's Escape

Next Time

Can you survive?
