Previously on Falcon Crest. Little game of fox and hounds. You want to save your

son's life.

True, I didn't kill him. You have lived with this for 50 years. Isn't that long

enough? It's true.

You murdered my brother.

Hopkins, don't!

Lance Compson, you're under arrest for the murder of Dina Wells.

What? Look at her. Some nurse. I'm going to go in there and beat the truth out

of her. In 48 hours, you won't feel anything at all.

You'll be dead.

And tonight.

Hello, Stretch.

That's what I'm going to get her, Dad.

Don't call the police, or you're dead.

I'm going to have my own wineries, Angela.

And they're going to be better than Falcon Crest.

How would you like to get back at Melissa for what she did to Chase and

What scheme are you hatching now, Angela?

I'm sorry, Dad. I'm sorry, Dad, but you left me no choice.

Why didn't you warn me? Well, then you wouldn't have been surprised.

I missed you out there. Did you?

Oh, I missed you too. It's very lonely here without you. Good, it better be.

Welcome back.

You better miss me.

I look.

I can do this any way you like. Oh, good.

I can talk to you about life and death.

Or I can get real traditional and get down on one knee. Better yet, you give

15 minutes and I'll have a marching band in here.

I'll have fireworks, skydivers, you name it. But it all comes down to the same

thing.

Will you marry me?

Come on.

We'll have the first wedding at Channing City Hall.

I didn't even think Channing City Hall was built yet. Now be careful, be

careful. Well, I'll put in a rush order.

All right?

I love you.

But?

Well, just so much has happened in the last few months.

I never noticed.

I feel like I'm going around in circles.

I need a little time to sort things out.

I'll give you all the time you need.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Five minutes enough?

Four. Three.

Richard Channing.

You say you took this poison accidentally?

Mm -hmm.

You're expecting to believe you can't remember if it was swallowed or

Look, when will you know what it is?

Well, rush the samples down to San Francisco General. They've got the

facilities. How long will it take?

Depends. And they run test after test until they hit it.

Daniel's here.

Who?

Oh, yeah, he's right here.

Switchboard has a call for you.

Hello? They can't help you at the hospital, Lance.

Where are you?

Never mind where I am.

Where you should be is at your suite waiting for your instructions.

Oh, Lance.

What? Don't call the police or you're dead.

They won't know until they do your autopsy.

I could help if you helped.

I told you all I can.

Hey, uh, can you give me something for the business?

We can't afford to mask the symptoms. Once you're admitted upstairs, I'll try

make you as comfortable as they possibly can.

Forget it.

I could be dead by then.

Mr. Thompson, now wait a minute. I don't have a minute, man.

I already wasted an hour here.

If you find out anything before I do, leave a message for me.

Uh... Deloro Spa.

The valley won't be the same without you, Ellen.

Oh, yes, it will.

The valley will always be the same. As long as you're here, Angela.

Well, shall we start haggling? No haggling, Angela.

We already have a buyer.

Jim and I talked it over and decided we'd rather see the land go to one of

youngsters around here.

What youngster?

Melissa O 'Grady.

Oh. For pity's sake, she's already ruined her own land.

Your gritty lands are coming back, Angela.

But I can't get a harvest for at least two years.

More like ten, the way you've taken care of them.

So I've decided to start Joseph Wineries with the grapes from Jim and Ellen's

land. Oh, you mean that property next to Falcon Crest?

Oh, that's right. We're going to be neighbors.

Well, why don't I just buy that from you? You could make a fine profit.

No.

A few weeks ago, you wanted to be a brilliant star in the nightclub.

It seems that you're having a hard time making up your mind.

Or have you lost it again?

I did a good job with the nightclub, Angela.

It's a matter of opinion.

Melissa, I'm going to have to fire you.

Isn't that the best you can do for me when I've already quit?

Keep up, Angela. Keep up.

All the way.

I'm going to have my own winery, Angela.

And it's going to be better than Falcon Crest.

I don't think you and I will live long enough to see that.

You just can't stand the idea of a little competition, can you, Angela?

Why, Melissa, I love the idea of competition.

And what are your plans now?

I figure I'll go down to the city and get a job that really pays.

My finances are a little tight.

Yeah, I know.

Now, look, I apologize for that.

And I worked it off, remember?

Well, I still think it's pretty lousy stealing money from your own son.

I mean, if you just told me who you were right away, I mean, you know I'd have

given it to you, don't you?

I was hoping you'd recognize me. What, after 20 years? Did you recognize me?

Right away.

You know, if you'd like to stick around for a while, maybe I could help you find

a job.

I got a friend who's starting a winery.

And I hear opportunity knocking.

Yeah, but we're going to have to work on you a little first.

Your clothes.

I know

who

killed her.

You told the sheriff, I hope. I can't.

crisis that is going to bring american journalism to its knees huh it's in the

sports section it's kind of a busy day harold says keep the mcdowell obit on

page one but my idea is that it shouldn't be on page one it should be

on oh yeah i called that one six months ago i saw him at one of the games and i

said that guy doesn't look too good leave me alone for a minute yeah but

are we going to do i'd put that on page eight i certainly wouldn't all right

The McDowell story stays on page one.

Now, why would you... I don't care if they're holding the Super Bowl in

Spearfish, South Dakota, all right? This goes on page one. That goes on page

eight, all right? Now, go, please.

Go on.

Lance, this is ridiculous.

Come on. We gotta call the sheriff. Come on. No, I told you, we can't do that.

All right, all right. What are we going to do?

We'll wait here.

She's got to call us.

I wanted to get her myself, Dad. She killed Dina. Lance, Lance, listen to me.

Whatever she gave you, it's affecting the judgment. You're not thinking

straight. No. It's already been four hours.

We've got to call somebody. No.

All right, I'll call from the lobby.

Dad, wait.

I'm calling the sheriff. I'm calling the FBI. I'm calling the whole damn thing.

One million dollars cash, Pier 38 phone booth, San Francisco, 8 a .m.

You'll be close to death then.

Don't make a mistake.

That's what I'm going to get her, Dad.

I'm going with you, and we're going to bring the money.

Because you, by God, are not taking a chance with your life.

Call the, uh... Quietly Confident Look.

Son, there is no such thing as quiet confidence.

Any good salesman will tell you that.

Welcome to the 80s, Dad.

What are you laughing at? This was your idea, remember?

I know, I know, and he needed it.

I'd be careful if I were you.

Don't thrash you.

Well, wouldn't you have to wait for the polish to dry?

We don't usually give out that kind of money unless you're holding a gun.

Thanks, Bill. I appreciate you doing this so quickly. Hey, listen, your

our best customer.

I was glad to be of service.

Are you okay?

Yeah,

yeah, yeah.

I gotta eat something. Alright, get something to eat. We don't have time.

Yeah.

Hope you don't mind driving.

I'm okay. Yeah, like hell you are. I'm taking you to San Francisco.

I'm going to check you into the hospital, David. I've got better

all they're going to do is tuck me in bed and watch me die. You've got to find

out what she gave you. You don't have time.

Look, you want to help me? Fine. If not, stay out of my way. I'm going to help

you, all right?

If you want to argue about it, argue after we get to the

hospital.

Hello, Stretch.

Richard Channing.

I don't believe it.

It's been a long time.

It certainly has.

I'm not even called Stretch anymore. They call me Liz.

I've seen your byline.

In fact, I checked into hiring you a few years ago for the New Globe.

You could always use a good photojournalist, and I'll be a son of a

didn't turn out to be one of the best.

Well,

I'm strictly freelance.

Afraid to get my wings clipped.

I'm sorry about your daddy.

I remember how fond you were of each other.

You were the only boy in the whole of baseball camp he let stay up after

out. That's for sure.

I think I was the only kid who didn't mind staying up all night listening to

stories.

I think that was the happiest time of his life.

Maybe it was for all of us.

You gonna take over for him? I read where he left you the team.

He left me the team, all right.

I should be able to hold on to him for about a week.

You know, I'd forgotten how much I love this place.

Oh, Maggie.

There's some business I want to talk to you about.

Mutually beneficial.

I'm sure.

Isn't that lovely?

Uh -huh.

All the time you need, but this will help you keep track of it.

What does that mean?

Private joke.

Oh. How would you like to get back at Melissa for what she did to Chase and

But after all, she was responsible for his death.

What scheme are you hatching now, Angela? She has just purchased the

property, and I want you to put in a bid for it. What? Using my money.

Look, if you are going to war with Melissa, please, just leave me out of

she will sell it to you, Maggie. After all, she does owe you something for not

pressing charges against her.

No. Then you could sign it over to me.

And go right back to keeping track of time.

How do you do it, Angela?

I mean, I can hardly keep my head above water here, and yet you manage to run

Falcon Crest and do battle with half the Western Hemisphere.

Well, I budget my time very well.

Have a nice day, Maggie.

You won't have to pay me very much.

You wait until I've proven my worth.

But if we were to get to work now...

Sort of building a base, uh, waiting on the public's appetite.

The public will fall all over themselves trying to get to those bottles.

Well, um, maybe we could make it a... a father -son sales operation.

You know, Dan, I could teach you enough about... No, no, no, no. I'm still

working for Angela.

As I recall, Angela Channing is a woman to keep away from.

Oh, I know. She took care of your mother.

I just never trusted her.

Then you'll have to come to my party.

What party?

Oh, my farewell party at the Max.

I thought I would do something that would really impress Angela.

Uh -oh.

Yes, there's some very interesting people coming up all the way from San

Francisco just to meet her.

Charlie, Lance was supposed to be here, but I called the spa. He's probably

gallivanting somewhere.

He'll probably drop by later.

He certainly ought to.

Oh, and on your dresser is a little gift.

It's just a very small little gift. You just say, welcome home. Thank you.

Of course, you'll be on light duty for a while. No, Miss Channy, I'll keep...

Charlie! I said light duty.

Maybe he's condescended to phone us.

Oh, I'll take care of it myself.

Melissa is hiring away all of my workers.

She's going to live to regret that.

Mrs. Channing, it's good to be home.

It's good to have you home, Charlie.

The club's not even covering its expenses.

There's a company.

The Takahama Company, Japanese, wants to buy us out.

You don't want to sell to a foreign corporation, do you?

I don't like that.

You don't like it.

Hey, watch out there.

You still got a pretty good slider.

Used to have the best arm and cap, war girl.

I remember, believe me. You used to throw enough rocks at me.

That's right, I did.

You know what I remember about you?

What? You were very...

Mysterious. I'm 14 years old. How could I be mysterious?

Well, you were.

You used to come in every summer from Europe speaking what? I don't know, 20

languages? Seven? What did you speak?

Oh, I don't know. Four, maybe. I'm lucky to speak one now.

Yes, well, I was so jealous of you. I couldn't wait to get to Europe. I still

think that's the reason I moved to London.

Liz,

you know, this ball club...

I mean, you don't want to go back to London. You want to stay here and fight

keep the team, right?

Yeah, I'd love to fight.

I want a lot of guns. They got money and I don't.

Is there anything I can do?

Got any ideas? Love to hear.

All ears.

Well, we got to even up the odds a little.

Let me think about it.

Two lovers.

Together, even in death.

Tell me what you think.

I'm going to be honest, be brutal, be vicious. Just tell me what you think.

You invented this?

Yeah. It's awfully sweet.

The new GeoBerry dessert wine.

It's, you know, supposed to be sweet.

It's good.

It is good. Isn't it good? I think it's good.

What does Richard think?

What does he have to do with it? Well, every time I see you, it's Richard,

Richard, Richard.

Is something going on?

You don't miss a beat, do you?

He asked me to marry him.

Oh, boy.

And you said?

Well, I said, I said, I don't know.

And the truth is?

I don't know.

You know that falcon crest land that's next to Melissa's new property?

It does slant downhill, doesn't it? Yeah.

Well, it would be a tragedy if something should happen to our irrigation system.

Of course, if it did, I would certainly forgive you because accidents do happen.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

Yes. Well, thank you.

Mrs. Channing, Julia is gone.

Emma is in Hollywood.

Lance lives his own life.

Why must you keep on fighting?

Force of habit.

We've got to keep looking for her. There's not that much time left. I know,

I'll keep looking. You've got to see a doctor.

Dad, I'm telling you... I'm not going to argue with you anymore.

Sorry, Dad, but you left me no choice.

Orderly, come here.

I don't know what happened to this guy. He just collapsed on me.

Take care of him.

I don't even eat with those hands.

All right, hey, let me take a cut.

We're open to everybody.

Yeah. Maybe I'll put our uniforms on those guys and then invite the Takahama

Company to come over.

See if they want to buy us out then.

Yeah. That might be a good idea.

If that doesn't work, there just might be another way.

Are you free for a while?

You bet.

I'm sorry, officer.

Was I speeding?

I have to tell you, Mr. Channing, this is not a good business move.

As you may know, baseball attendance has dropped off considerably, and player

salaries are up.

Way up.

Now, wait a minute. You're supposed to be on my side.

I am.

Now, Mr. Graves, I appreciate your concern, but I have my own financial

advisors. The only thing I need from you, I want you to draw up some papers

forming a limited partnership between my syndicate and Miss McDowell.

Your syndicate?

Some friends of mine, local businessmen. Here.

You might recognize a few of those names.

These are some pretty high -powered people.

Yeah, and they're all fans, too. But the best part is they can come up with a

half a billion in collateral to back Miss McDowell. Is that enough to stop a

takeover, Mr. Graves?

Whoa, Scarlett.

A half a bill?

I guess it should be.

I think that'll do it.

That's all I wanted to hear. All right. You have those papers by my office

tomorrow morning. Yes.

Stay moist, Howard.

My heart's just pumping. I'm sorry.

You could have warned me.

Well, then you wouldn't have been surprised.

You always work with that?

Only when I have to.

You know, I don't really get it.

We haven't known each other since we were kids.

And we were always fighting them. Hey, watch it.

So why are you hauling me out of the fire now?

Let's just say I'm hauling Dusty McDowell's daughter out of the fire.

I was always jealous of you.

You got to have him for a father.

Besides, I like baseball.

Mr. Takahama?

Yes, I just wanted to pass on information.

You may have some competition, sir.

Mr. Combs, we know he'll be at the pier at 8 a .m. We've got the phone booth

staked out. We'll get him then.

Oh, well, that's assuming that he's still alive. And if he is, what are you

going to do for him then?

We've got the hospital here working on your boy's blood sample. We're feeding

the information to our own toxicologist. You want to tell me what else we can

do? Find my son.

That's a little difficult when your son doesn't want to be found.

Now, look.

About an hour ago, a car with the license plate you gave us got pulled

And the guy driving, who matches your son's description... Burned rubber

away from the cops.

And you lost him?

My son's dying and you lost him?

Where are you going?

I need a job for you.

He hasn't picked up his messages all day.

It's not like that.

It is when Tony's in town.

I was just hoping he'd be here.

But guess who is here?

Hello, Dan.

I didn't think you'd show up.

Melissa's farewell party?

I wouldn't miss it for the world.

We do have a dress code around here.

Not tonight, we don't.

Can't wait to hear the explanation for this.

Hey, everybody!

Look who's here!

It's Angela Channing!

Hey!

Are you any kin to Emma Channing? I've seen her on the talk shows.

She is really weird.

Compared to what?

Angela Channing.

Could I possibly begin to describe this woman?

Yes, I could, but I don't use that kind of language in public.

Why don't you come up here and say a few words to your fans, Angela?

I agree that... Melissa leaving the nightclub is a cause for celebration.

But unfortunately, this is the one night this place is going to close at 8 .30.

Now listen, if you're not all out here in five minutes, I'll call security.

Thank you.

Would you get out of my way, please?

Come on.

Angela, here's a phone call for you.

Thank you.

Hello? There's trouble with the irrigation.

The irrigation system?

Well, that's too bad.

You can fix it, though, can't you?

Yes, of course.

Well, just take your time. You know I want it done properly.

Thank you.

Okay, everybody.

Like the lady said, the max closes in five minutes.

Presidential suite, doesn't it?

So let the good times roll.

All that Michael running around so much.

We should get those things that you put over the sockets so that you don't put

your fingers into it.

What are they called?

I don't know.

Well, whatever. I think we should get some.

Do you want to take care of that?

Or should I?

Oh, no, I'll take care. I mean, I'll take care of that.

I don't know what they're called, but I know what they look like.

Good.

Nice watch.

You like it, huh?

Does it keep good time?

Given to me by an old admirer.

Does it keep good time?

Oh, yeah.

In a second.

is that she told Lance that he had about 24 hours to live.

And maybe she was lying.

Maybe she just pumped him up with water to get the money. I don't think so,

Andy. I mean, you had to see it. He passed out. He fell flat on his face.

Okay, tell me what the other symptoms are. He's pale, sweaty, clammy hands.

Uh -huh. What about his speech? Was it slurred, slower, faster?

What? I don't know. It kept changing. He seemed disoriented one minute, and then

he snapped back and he said he was hungry, starving.

What? Does that seem familiar?

Yeah, it could be.

What are you looking at?

Chadwick's personal file?

Yep. Direct from Tuscany community via hookup.

Well, what are you looking for?

That.

So she's a diabetic.

With access to insulin.

Could that cause those symptoms?

You mean that could kill him?

You bet it would.

Well, what can you do about it?

It's the easiest thing in the world.

Glucose therapy.

He's good as new, but we have to find him first.

Pier 38. I've got to get to that phone booth.

Lieutenant Matthews, please.

What time is it?

It's about 6 .30.

Oh, you know you shouldn't have left so early. There was this little...

Tell him about the little... Did

they get hold of you?

Some of them sure tried.

What are you doing here? Your foreman was trying to find you.

He tried over at Dan's.

There's been some sort of accident.

Yeah.

Good morning, Lance.

How are you feeling?

I got the money.

Yeah, I can see that.

I can also see a police car.

Now, you didn't go and tell them, did you? No.

No, I didn't, I swear.

Lucy, meet me at the Palace of Fine Arts in an hour.

Taxi!

She said she'd be at Fort Point.

Point.

This

entire

field has to be replanted.

She flooded it and I want her arrested. Do you understand me?

Mrs. Channing said it was an accident. She'll pay for all the damage. Oh, come

on. Just like she's paying to have you in her hip pocket.

Judge and jury would call that slander.

And what would they call charging Lance for murder?

False arrest, isn't it?

You know there's an election coming up.

And we're going to get a sheriff who can do his job for a change. Now get off my

property.

George, get that pump over here.

Why not?

Well, maybe I've got too high standards.

Nothing wrong with that.

Another way of saying I'm too picky for my own good.

Action.

I was with someone for a long time.

And, uh, I died in a plane crash two and a half years ago.

I'm sorry.

What about you? You married?

I'm thinking about it, though.

Somebody I... I wouldn't know her.

I don't believe so.

I think I'm trying to find out if it's good enough.

Well, you see... Yes.

She is.

Maybe too good.

Who have you asked her?

Sorry, that's none of my business.

Yes, I've asked her.

What did she say?

She's making up her mind.

What?

Nothing. Nothing. What?

It's a deep girl secret, but women have two answers for that kind of question.

Yes, or... Or? Or what?

Whatever else comes into their mind.

I see.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that.

I haven't seen you for a long time, but I sure wouldn't like it if someone were

trying to hurt you.

What's the problem?

I appreciate your concern.

She must be nuts.

She may be. She likes me.

Yeah? No.

I sure bet she's not at Fort Point.

She's a smart lady, but she forgot we can bug payphones.

Would you give this note to that man over there with the silver attache case?

Would you do that for me?

Oh, thank you.

Here's something for you.

Thank you.

What are

you

doing?

All units, primary suspect at 2 o 'clock near Fountain.

Apprehend. Do not repeat. Do not use force.

So what do you want me to do, hmm?

You think I should marry him?

What do you think?

What do you think?

He'd be a good daddy.

I think he'd be a good daddy.

I'm not quite sure how the world would treat the son of Richard Channing.

But we'll just have to make it strong enough to deal with all that.

Yes, it's okay.

It's okay.

I wish you could make this decision for me. Can you make this decision for me?

No? All right.

Well, you just have to trust your mother to make it.

I admit the irrigation system is out of date. I've been meaning to replace it.

But you never got around to it, right?

Well, I'd be glad to pay for the damages.

Tell Melissa that. That's a big help, Angela.

Well, I called her and she hung up on me.

Well, you're lucky she didn't come over here and try and strangle you.

Oh, she's famous for those little tricks. Come on, that's enough.

Melissa.

It's working and trying very hard to turn her life around. If she's

Falcon Crest, then she's taken a wrong turn.

And if you're her friend, you tell her to stay out of the wine business.

She can do what she wants to do.

And if I can, I'll help her.

I think it's time you decide where your loyalties lie.

Don't make me choose between the two of you.

Oh, dear.

This is no longer necessary.

All you needed was a little sugar.

Amazing how fast this stuff works, isn't it?

The end of the line.

It's all over. Hold it right there!

Hey!

Hey, we make a pretty good team, don't we?

Yeah, so next time, don't try to break it up, okay?

All right.

Hey, what was it the guy said?

If I'd have spent all that time in bed, I wouldn't have shown the symptoms so

fast, and you never would have figured out it was insulin.

What's in it?

She was going to inject him with air.

Would have been dead in ten seconds.

What is your next move against Melissa?

You know you've been gone so long, I've forgotten how well you know me.

As well as anyone.

Well, you should.

Liz is no problem. She just has Dan fixed on her side. And he's smart.

than he knows.

What will you do?

Oh, I'll just keep him away from her for a while.

Without him, she'll be an easy target.

But if you send Dan away...

He's your friend, Miss Channing.

He seems to have forgotten that for the moment.

But he'll remember it.

Eventually.

Got it.

Headline. Local boys band together to save home team.

I want those Takahama people to know who they're dealing with.

So, what's up? Oh, you sound kind of busy.

Yeah, well, why don't I, why don't I just, I'll call you later, all right? Go

ahead.

What's on your mind?

This is really going to sound silly. I just, I just wanted to know what you

wanted to have for dinner.

To tell you the truth, I'm not even sure I'm going to be able to get back for

dinner.

Richard, are you angry with me?

No.

Well, it's just that you sound so...

Look, you have to get back to work, and I will... I will see you when I see you.

I'll try to barge in like this.

I don't think I'm supposed to be doing that deal.

Oh, you've got to. I've already told everybody that they can have free

to the games.

What's wrong?

What happened?

I think someone just tried to kill me.

Next on Falcon Craft.

Hi, Thaler.

He really does love you. I love you.

But don't you still think it's dangerous to keep him waiting?

You bastard!

I never claimed that I was a saint. What do you think of my first column?

Ask Emma?

Well, it's just you and me now, Melissa.

I think it makes the odds more interesting.

I tell you, the man tried to control my life for 25 years. Now he's trying to

control me from the grave.

Richard, I was on the 14th floor.

No balcony.
