When we played the gig,
the dressing rooms were up there.

Mine was number 25, there.

Alan's was 26, Guigsy's was 27.
And our Liam had the rest of them.

He had five, for all his different
personalities he went through

to thousands of British fans,

mega-band Oasis
were off to delight the Americans,

until lead singer and heart-throb

got off the plane to move house.

I never let the band down.

I didn't have an 'ouse to live in
for a start.

I was living in hotels in America.
I was going to live in another one.

There is speculation
that abandoning Oasis' US tour

was a prelude to break-up.

He wouldn't answer questions.

It was
a never-ending circle of work.

Everyone wanted the maximum out of
Morning Glory before we imploded.

Yeah, I think...

three years, without a break
of more than a week, ten days...

That was constantly touring
or recording.

I said, "If this is what it is,

"I'm not gonna be in a band."

And everybody said let's do one
record and then see what happens.

So I agreed to do the record.

So we rented a big farmhouse
out in Surrey and all went there.

It was just all the lads together.
Just got pissed for two days.

And we'd just sit up all night
and record and play music.

We decided to carry on,
get back into it.

Every time we were coming in to
record, I was followed by four cars,

outside my house, waiting for me.

If they choose to follow me,
that's fine.

But as soon as I get in here,
I'm back with the boys.

They can't come in.

They just fizzle away.

Something
that came out of going away
is that we know we're doing this

for the right reasons - we want to.
We don't need to be in a band.

We don't need to go on
world tours and all that hassle.

We're doing it now
because we want to.

BONEHEAD: Personally, I think
it's the best thing we've done.

We're not fazed by
a great big place like Air Studios
and all the equipment and whatever.

We just walk in
and do it. But Noel's songwriting,

it's just improved, like, 110% to me,

from what he was writing in the past.

And we're playing better.
More confident, whatever.

We wanted to make
an out-and-out rock'n'roll record.

There's a few ballads on there.

But it's all guitar-based.

There's about 50 separate
guitar parts on every track.

It was like a new band.
We were doing a new album.

There was no pressure
about when to start or finish.

It was just going in there
and going, "Right." You know?

We felt a bit
like everyone had written us off,

with the drugs and everything.

This is probably the
most important album of our career.

This is the one
that's either going to send us up

to U2, um, sort of levels,

or it's going to,
you know, see us back on the dole!

the majority of people like my band

is because we are like the majority.

We still go to football matches
and the pub.

All the atmosphere's gone out of
this ground. When I started coming,
there was about 85,000 then.

This used to be
the old Kippax stand, which
was the largest stand in England.

It was the last one
to be knocked down as well.

Right on this corner here
was where, I do believe, I watched
my first Man City game from.
