Who is in the Wooden Men Alley?

Fang Shih-yu.

Who is on duty today?

Uncle Chen Si Di.

Fang Shih-yu, still a naive apprentice and yet you have entered the alley.

Do you know what will happen if you fail?

Yes, ifl can't get out, I have to start again from the beginning.

More haste less speed, I suggest you go back.

I am determined to go.

Do you know why it is called the Wooden Men Alley?

Yes, although our own brothers are on duty in the alley,

they will show no mercy when fighting.

Their hearts are hard like wood; hence the name.

Who is to blame if anyone dies or gets injured?

I have only myself to blame.

Alright.

- Chen Guang. - Yes.

Be careful.

Uncle.

You can leave.

Thank you, uncle.

Uncle!

Fang Shih-yu, hurry and go.

DA MO HALL

Abbot, Fang Shih-yu stormed the Wooden Men Alley with a knife

and killed Chen Guang, will you authorise a search for him?

Is that Feng Dao-de?

Yes.

Fang Shih-yu would not do such a thing.

Abbot Zhi Shan, are you saying you don't trust us?

Brother, we should go, let's return to Wudang.

We left the Wudang School to come here, but the Shaolin Temple has taught us nothing!

Let's go...

Brother Feng, you are doing right.

Brother Pai Mei. You heard what happened?

Zhi Shan suspects us.

We can't stay at Shaolin anymore.

We'll fight with Shaolin one day.

I'II deal with Zhi Shan. You watch out for Fang Shih-yu.

Yes.

Fang Shih-yu's mother bathed him with tonic wine when he was young.

That makes him almost invincible.

Though he was cut by Brother Wu's sword

I'm afraid he will be unharmed.

When you fight him, lure him into doing a jumping attack

and stab him while he's still in the air.

This is the only way to break his invulnerability.

Remember this.

I understand.

Let's go!

What are you doing?

What do you want?

Your uncle owes Master Lei money, he offered you as collateral for the loan.

Are you crazy?

You don't even recognise me?

Fang Shih-yu!

He Da-yong, you can't let the fight end with that kick.

Pick those flowers up.

Shaolin requires you to train for at least three years.

- How did you get out so quick? - By my tried and true skills.

Go.

Is Lei Lao-hu still a feared outlaw?

I don't believe it, all the real heroes must be gone!

Not really.

When Lei Lao-hu heard you went to Shaolin,

he started practising the Wooden Pole formation.

Two people have fought him, he killed them both.

Pole formation?

That's right, you fight on wooden poles with sharpened bamboo below.

And if you fall...

I buried one of the heroes myself.

He died amidst the pole formation.

Pole formation?

If you aren't prepared, you'd better leave as soon as possible.

I managed to fight my way out of the Wooden Men Alley.

The pole formation can't stop me!

You haven't practised on the poles before,

in a fight with Lei Lao-hu you'll be at a disadvantage.

No need to be rash, stay at my place tonight.

I'll set up the formation for you.

At least practise for a few days before you challenge him.

Fang Shih-yu is back!

What?! Why hasn't he come to fight me?

He's with He Da-yong.

They are plotting something.

Lei Lao-hu's men...

JIN LUN SCHOOL

Make way...

May God bless me with good luck.

Winner takes all.

Here, go on with the bet.

Boss Hu, our luck was bad today.

Can you lend us some money?

Borrow money? Really? This is a casino, not a bank.

If you need money, there's a pawn shop up the road.

Hu Yiu-ding, don't you know us?

Won't you show even a little respect?

Who are you?

Teachers from the Jin Lun School?

Even if you're a king, no mercy is shown here.

Hu Yiu-ding, you dare say that again?

Don't bet if you can't afford to lose.

People are afraid of your school, but I am not.

You...

Stop fighting...

Please stop.

Gentlemen, we haven't offended you.

Please stop fighting...

None of your business.

Someone's been killed.

Get away.

Quiet.

Hu Huei-chien, listen.

Your father died from a head injury.

The scar is over two inches long.

He probably lost all his money and bashed his head against a wall.

Bullshit! He's bruised all over, did the wall do that to him?

You can have his body back to make the funeral arrangements.

Don't cause more problems.

Hu Huei-chien, what are you doing?

You are covering up for the Jin Lun School!

I'II settle the score with them myself!

Teacher, come quick!

Someone's causing trouble!

- Who is it? - Hu Huei-chien.

Who is this kid?

Hu Huei-chien, son of Hu Yiu-ding.

You...

The factory owned by Jin Lun School employs over 10,000 workers.

The kung fu instructors are experts from Wudang.

Even the officials are scared of them.

We had better not mess with them. We... well...

Get out, all of you!

Faster!

You've tried fighting them.

Look at the state it left you in.

I will keep going, as long as I live.

I'm going after them again.

He's back!

Hu Huei-chien, you barely survived last time.

You want to test your luck again?

If you don't cause trouble again you might be spared.

Rubbish!

Throw him into the river.

Let's go.

- You're going to keep trying? - Of course!

You know you are no match for them and still you try, why?

Because I'm still alive!

- How much? - Not for sale.

Then why have it here?

The men of Jin Lun School are outlaws,

no one in Guangzhou wants to mess with them.

Only you dare to fight them!

You are a hero and I don't want you to die!

If it's not for sale, then it must be free!

Have some tea.

Inside please...

There's a fight upstairs.

- Hey, people fighting? - That Hu Huei-chien really is a hero.

Only he dares to take on the outlaws of Jin Lun School.

What a pity he is no match for them though!

I think he'll die this time.

Go, quickly.

I saved you, why are you attacking me?

I was risking my life, how dare you interfere?

I don't think you were risking your life.

In fact I think you were trying to end it.

Who are you?

That's Fang Shih-yu.

You are the one who killed Lei Lao-hu on his pole formation?

I have heard about you also.

If it's revenge you seek, I can help you.

No, I'll do it myself.

You are not ready yet.

You have to train hard at the Shaolin Temple.

I fear you might not be able to bear the hardship.

If you can, so can I.

Let's go.

Sir, you haven't paid yet.

SHAOLIN TEMPLE

Kneel down... Damn it, kneel.

You are open for business.

How dare you refuse the patronage of people from our factory?

You never pay.

Anyone else not convinced yet?

Bow down and apologise quickly

or else you'll all die for nothing!

JIN LUN SCHOOL

Bow.

Stop!

Recognise me?

Hu Huei-chien, you dare to return?

What do you want?

To defeat you!

Heaven and Earth.

Place your bets...

Where have I seen you before?

Take your time.

Niu Hua-jiao, that kid looks familiar. Where do I know him from?

Don't you remember?

Eight for the head and nine for the tail.

Got it.

He is the kid who helped Hu Huei-chien three years ago.

Instructor Lu, you have a good memory.

What do you want?

Not much.

I'm just wasting time gambling with you two,

so Hu Huei-chien has plenty of time to tear apart your factory.

Damn kid!

Stop, your men are here.

That means Hu Huei-chien will have almost finished by now.

Instructor! Hu Huei-chien has destroyed our factory and the school!

Sorry, see you round.

You aren't leaving!

This is a waste of time.

You'd better go look for Hu Huei-chien now.

We are a small business, if they come for revenge...

Don't worry, I destroyed all seven of their factories

and now await Niu Hua-jiao and Lu Ying Bu here.

Once they get here, I'll drive them out for good.

Whatever the damages, I'll pay for it all.

Hero Hu, if you drive out those two

you will have done Guangzhou a huge favour.

You have to be careful too.

If Hu Huei-chien cannot defeat them and they heard you say that,

your restaurant would be torn down.

Tell the factory foremen to wait for me at Jin Lun School.

Okay.

He's here... let's go.

Niu Hua-jiao, Lu Ying Bu, time to settle our score!

You owe us a life!

Great!

Great!

Everybody's here.

Please listen, I want to say a few words.

Niu Hua-jiao, Lu Ying Bu and a group of people

have broken the law and oppressed you all.

They have got what they deserved.

From now on I order you all, don't ever act immorally!

Hu Huei-chien, you shouldn't have crushed the school's plaque!

Because of Niu Hua-jiao, the name of Jin Lun School is sullied.

Crushing this plaque will do you good.

Do you know what other people think about you?

If people from the factory break the law again.

I'II fight them every time I see them!

Not only did two of them kill my father,

they are also students of Wudang School.

Feng Dao-de of Wudang conspired with the Qings to oppress and murder our people!

I won't let them off so easily!

Cui-ping, let's go.

Do you really have to go?

I must.

I am a Shaolin disciple and there are things I must do.

I'll go look for Fang Shih-yu first, then Hung Hsi-kuan.

The government is trying to arrest him!

That's why I must find him.

LI CHUN COURTESAN HOUSE

Wanted posters have been posted everywhere for your arrest.

You still dare to run around? I don't understand why.

It doesn't really matter who's going to be the Emperor.

It does.

Alright, never mind.

Please lower your voice.

Hung Ying, come out...

Guys from Commander-in-Chief's office are here again.

I wonder who's going to be unlucky today?

Hung Ying, someone's calling you!

Hung Ying, aren't you going to come out? Someone's here!

How conceited!

Do you know where we are from?

From the Commander-in-Chief's office.

So you do know.

I've also seen people from the Governor's office.

May I have your names please?

When Commander Gao is here, I will mention this to him.

The anger has passed, there's no need to do that.

We'll pay for the things we broke.

You're too kind.

What is it?

I am Hung Hsi-kuan, the one who kills you Qing clogs!

Master Lei, have you arrested a suspect?

We got one, but he died while we were branding him with a hot iron.

Master Lei.

I don't think Hung Hsi-kuan has the guts to hide here.

After him!

I said he was here in the town, but you didn't listen to me!

We will update the notices tomorrow and raise the reward!

- Do it tonight! - Yes.

The flag, Hung?

Liu residence, west of the city.

That's not enough soup.

- How much more? - Three catties.

The Qing court are hard on our trail, we've got to be very careful.

Brother Hung, since you've been in the city you've killed a lot of Qing men.

They are now extremely frightened and the people rejoice in this.

How much could one man do?

Not much, even with everyones help.

We need to find more heroes, spread the word.

One man tells ten more.

Until the Ming dynasty can be restored!

Before I came to the city I met Hu Huei-chien.

There'II be more guys from Shaolin in the next few days.

We shouldn't stay here long.

Tomorrow we'll leave separately.

Be careful.

Yes.

WINE

WANTED: HUNG HSI-KUAN

- Who are you? - I never hide my name.

Tong Qian-jin, disciple of Shaolin.

Arrest him.

Hurry and go.

- After him! - Wait.

They must be here for Hung Hsi-kuan.

We should follow them, they might lead us to him!

I've told you to stay out of trouble, but you don't listen.

Is everyone from Shaolin like you, hiding from the Qing?

You lot are useless!

What have you accomplished that's so great?

Wait until we see Brother Hung.

Because of you, we might not even meet brother Hung at the agreed time.

Brother Hung. Brother Tong, Brother Nian should be here today.

Yes, I'll go to meet them.

You...

I can't hide just because there are warrants against me.

Brother Hung.

Brother Hung...

Nian Rui-qing, you fought your way out of the Wooden Men Alley?

Actually, I crawled out!

Hung Hsi-kuan, you can't escape.

You took 56 men with you and you are the only one who returned?

Why have you come back?

Men.

Yes.

Mobilise troops across the whole province!

Invite the experts of Wudang and Er Mei here.

I will burn down the Shaolin Temple!

Gao Jin-zhong and Feng Dao-de have burnt down the Shaolin Temple.

As long as I live, we have to oppose them.

That's right.

Let's go our separate ways for the time being.

Brother Feng will go back to Shiu Hing and set up a base there at Qing Yun Temple.

The Qing dogs will be hunting us, the rest of you should hide at the red boat.

Ding Fu of the theatre troupe will do the liaison.

It's unexpected but our troupe is becoming more and more popular.

Once the villages hear we are coming, we draw huge crowds.

You can probably change your profession now.

Wait.

How come there's no one on the boat?

Yes, we stayed late to pack things up.

The others should have returned by now.

Arrest them.

Hurry and go.

Don't kill him.

How many were on the red boat?

Any disciples from Shaolin?

There were 26. Only eight are from Shaolin.

Ding Fu is the leader. We captured him alive.

The others have all been executed on the spot.

A girl managed to escape.

A girl? Who is she?

Li Cui-ping, a good friend of Hu Huei-chien.

She escaped along the river.

- I've sent the Li brothers after her. - Good.

Bring Ding Fu here.

Yes.

Why don't you kneel?

Ding Fu, are you a disciple of Shaolin?

Yes.

I burnt down the Shaolin Temple.

Many of your Shaolin brothers died.

There can't be many of them left, they won't live long either.

We Shaolin may die, but our fight will live on!

Ding Fu, do you know what the bounty for

Fang Shih-yu, Hu Huei-chien and Hung Hsi-kuan is?

Yes, any information leading to their capture,

the reward is a few thousand taels of silver.

Ding Fu, with that reward you and your descendants could lead a good life.

Spend it on your own funeral!

Bring the burning basin.

Hung Hsi-kuan, Fang Shih-yu, Hu Huei-chien.

Where are they hiding? Speak.

Okay.

They stand alongside all of the people of China!

Go.

Please stay.

Who are you?

We never hide who we are.

We are disciples from Shaolin.

It's not safe here.

The Qing dogs will return, hurry to the town ahead.

Who are you?

Li Cui-ping.

You know Hu Huei-chien?

He's my friend.

We haven't seen him for so long.

Gao Jin-zhong and his troops burnt down the Shaolin Temple.

Our brothers are all gone, we don't know where any of them are!

Go.

Master Lei, the Li brothers are with Li Cui-ping.

She treats them as friends.

Good, get them to follow her.

Don't frighten them away before seeing Hung Hsi-kuan.

Yes.

Miss Li, we've been down this alley before.

Yes, I'm afraid someone might be following us.

So I am going around in circles.

Miss Li, it's been two days. When are we going to see Brother Hu?

That's right, you're just leading us around.

Be patient, you'll see them before it gets dark.

Let's go.

Okay.

Hurry up.

MEETING HUNG HSI-KUAN BEFORE DARK

Master.

News from the Li brothers.

It says they will be meeting Hung Hsi-kuan before it gets dark.

Let's go.

No one's here.

I have to call him. Brother Hung!

Commander-in-Chief of Guangdong.

Li Da-wan and Li Er-wan are here to see you!

Kill them both.

They've been leaving messages on the way.

Gao Jin-zhong will be following them.

Be careful, don't get too close to that graveyard.

We got your message yesterday.

We are fully prepared.

Once Gao Jin-zhong comes, he'll be finished!

Ding Fuk died a cruel death. These men should keep him company.

Where were you hiding? I had no idea!

You'll be surprised, we actually hid in the deserted Qing Yun Temple.

Sharpened bamboo, it's a trap!

QING YUN TEMPLE

- Brother. - Let's set off.

I know where the remaining Shaolin are hiding.

- Where are they? - Let's go, I'll tell you on the way.

Uncle, please.

- Disguise yourself in common clothes. - Yes.

Master Gao guessed right.

If they ambushed out men near the cemetery, they must be hiding somewhere near.

Just now I came across two Shaolin pupils buying over two hundred catties of rice.

There must be over ten of them hiding nearby.

Lei Da-pang, mobilise your men.

Yes.

Brother Tong, you're back. Have you been followed?

No, but there were a few Qing dogs on the road.

They passed by without even looking at us though.

It's too quiet out there.

I feel like something is going to happen.

This Qing Yun Temple has been deserted for many years.

Only locals know about this place.

No one else will know.

Brother Chen, Brother Zhi, go and see if there's any movement outside.

Yes.

Brother Chen, hurry and report to Brother Hung!

- You... - Never mind about me!

Brother Chen! Brother Chen!

Brother Chen?

Brother Hung...

Feng Dao-de, Gao Jin-zhong and their men have surrounded us.

- Where's Brother Zhi? - He and I were both shot at.

He's fighting our enemies in the front.

Our Shaolin Temple has been burnt down.

Teacher Zhi Shan was killed by the followers of Pai Mei.

Today is the day when the disciples of Shaolin will become martyrs.

Brother Hung, let's kill as many as we can!

Hopefully a few of us can survive the fight and continue the legacy of Shaolin.

But if we all die, the chivalry and honour of Shaolin shall be immortalised.

Brother Hung, don't worry.

Even the youngest of us Shaolin students are not afraid to die!

- Good! - Brothers, go.

Today is a good day to die for a cause.

- Brother Chen, you... - I can't go with you.

Hung Hsi-kuan, you've nowhere to go.

Surrender and save your own lives.

Why don't you ask my brothers?

Fang Shih-yu, Nian Rui-qing, Tong Qian-jin.

Hu Huei-chien, Li Cui-ping.

Even the junior disciples of Shaolin are all here!

With our combined strength, you Qing clogs won't leave here alive!

We Shaolin have sworn to fight till death.

Save your breath.

Good, you remain stubborn until the end!

Attack!

Spread out and fight through them.

Try your best.

Once I clap my hands, pass me the sword.

Yes.

Brother! You...

It's alright, just help me bandage it.

I don't intend to get out of here alive,

But I do intend to kill many Qing clogs before I die!

Cui-ping!

I'll be waiting for you...

Brother Feng.

Brother, how can that scumbag be regarded as our martial uncle.

This was a treacherous move to ambush one's enemy.

His sword penetrated my invulnerability.

Might as well get this over with.
