Why are you here?

Is this how you treat your guests?

Nan?

Long time no see...

Mom.

"Ling Yizhou of Lingshi Group indifferent towards his biological mother..."

Sir, I've investigated

the source of the news article, but the contributor was anonymous.

I think you should go to the hospital.

You might... be pregnant.

A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES

EPISODE 17

Her phone and wallet are gone.

Mr. Wang, we found her car, but she's not here.

Got it.

Mr. Ling, Mr. Wang told us not to touch anything. He's on his way here.

-Pop the hood. -OK.

The coolant tank is empty.

Could it be that the engine overheated,

so Mrs. Ling had to pull over?

But Mrs. Ling's car gets regular maintenance.

How could this happen?

Someone must have tampered with it.

You?

Have some food.

It's safe. Don't worry.

Where am I?

If you don't eat it, I'll take it away.

Who are you working for?

I'm here already.

Can't I meet the mastermind behind this?

He'll show up when the time is right.

He can't show his face? Or does he not have any guts?

Where's my stuff?

I'll keep it safe.

These aren't ordinary earrings.

They have GPS microchips inside so I can locate you.

Can you at least give me my watch?

-I'll feel better knowing what time it is. -No.

How about my earrings?

Ling Yizhou gave them to me.

They can keep me company.

I can't use them to commit suicide or hurt other people.

Yang Tong.

Can you think about how nicely I treated you before?

I'll go get them.

So? What have we found out so far?

If I'd known that she was driving alone, I'd have gone with her.

What did you tell everyone?

I told Mrs. Ling that you found Xia Lin already,

and that you wanted to celebrate alone.

As for Ms. Huang, I told her you needed some couple time

and sent her to keep Grandma company.

Keep an eye on the media.

We can't let anyone find out about Mumu's disappearance.

Yes, sir.

Mr. Ling.

Mr. Wang, thank you for coming.

That area is a security blind spot.

A few robberies have happened there before.

It's possible that it was a robbery gone awry.

We can't treat it as planned kidnapping just because of the coolant tank.

Before Mrs. Ling drives the car, security always checks it for problems.

The only possibility is that someone tampered with the car.

What did the driver say?

Mr. Liu knew that Mrs. Ling would use the car.

He made sure everything was alright.

Before he headed out, he got a stomachache and went to the hospital.

That's why he didn't pick her up.

I suspect that someone poisoned him.

Mr. Liu has worked for the Lings for two decades. He's trustworthy.

Mr. Wang, An Ran told me that

she didn't arrange the car accident I was in.

Could it be someone else behind her who's trying to harm me?

You think this incident was arranged by the same person?

I do.

Sir, Mrs. Ling's location signal.

This location...

It's nearby.

Yang Tong, thank you for helping me.

You'd better not get your hopes up too soon.

Nan?

We meet again.

Why are you...

You kidnapped me?

Sir, I...

Where's her other stuff?

In a signal-blocked room.

I'm sorry. I won't do it again.

Give them to me.

I won't.

I really don't want to hurt you.

Get rid of them. Don't let me down again.

Yes, sir.

You locked me in your house?

Surprised?

Right now, Ling Yizhou is still looking for you with the police.

If he knew that you were this close,

he'd be so baffled.

That really excites me.

So you're the one who helped An Ran?

Your target has always been Ling Yizhou.

I thought you knew.

We have history.

I felt guilty for misunderstanding you. I treated you like a friend.

Why would you do something like this? You're a horrible person.

Shut your mouth! I'm telling you...

you haven't been through what I've been through.

So you don't get to judge me.

Get in here.

Take Eleven away.

-What are you doing? -He doesn't need your concern.

What do you think I'd do to my own family member?

We're going on a difficult trip.

I don't want the dog to suffer with me.

Family member? If you can treat an animal kindly,

why can't you treat people kindly?

Because they're not worth it!

Eleven is much more loyal.

He's my best friend.

Do you know why he's called Eleven?

My mother passed away on that day.

It's about time. This is the last time you visit my house.

Let go!

Wait. Wen Li.

Did you find out Nan Jintian's address?

Not yet. He probably used another name.

Let's go to that location.

We'll spilt up and surround the place.

Let's go.

You search the east side. We'll block the west exit.

Got it.

No problem.

Mr. Ling, the signal is nearby.

Mr. Ling.

It's right here.

It was a distraction.

Before this, the signal was coming from our neighborhood.

I'll have someone track every vehicle that left the area around that time.

Mr. Wang, I want to go see someone first.

You came earlier than I thought.

I guess things aren't going well for you.

An Ran.

I want you to tell me...

Are you a part of this?

I don't know what you're talking about.

Xia Lin has been kidnapped.

If she wasn't kidnapped, would you come see me?

No.

You won't even lie to me out of mercy.

Then why are you here?

I've never lied to you, ever.

I never have, and I never will.

I know.

You're mad that I lied to you and tricked you.

But I don't regret it.

Was it worth it?

If you tell me who's behind all this...

I can try to have them reduce your sentence.

Reduce my sentence?

I have no pride anymore.

Do you think I still long for freedom?

What I want right now...

is for Xia Lin to go away forever.

So that you can feel what it's like to not get what you want.

If anything happens to her, Xing An will be the first to go down.

Even if I tell you now, it's already too late.

What do you mean?

Think about it.

A beautiful young woman goes missing.

Even if she comes back...

what would people say about her?

Could you live the same normal life you had before?

Whether she comes back or not...

her reputation and life have already been ruined.

Manager...

if I'm not mistaken, that's Ling Yizhou, right?

He's been drinking since he got here.

-Go do your job. -Yes, ma'am.

Why are you here so early?

What was that for, Chu Yan?

I'm the one that should be asking you.

What's this about?

It's exactly what you see.

Ling Yizhou, what's wrong with you?

Your precious wife has disappeared

and you're out with another woman?

Let's talk in my office.

Why? I don't care about my public image.

Now you're worried about your reputation?

I'm a human being.

I get tired sometimes.

Can't you give me some time and space

so that I can breathe? Just let me be me.

Have you thought about what it's like for Xia Lin right now?

-What if she's in danger? -What kind of danger? Tell me.

What if she gets assaulted?

That's right.

So even if she comes back, we can't go back to what we were.

Ling Yizhou.

Who are you interrogating me as?

My friend? Or Xia Lin's backup love interest?

Ling Yizhou, you're too big a loser to be my friend.

I'm telling you,

if you don't take care of Xia Lin,

I, Chu Yan, will still protect her.

-You're finally home. -Why are you here?

Some things have to be said in person.

Have you eaten yet?

No.

I'm too worried to eat.

Go relax for a bit. I'll make some food.

-Anything about Linlin? -Not yet.

Didn't they have a lead yesterday?

The police are tracking the vehicles that left the area around the same time.

They found a black car with a fake license plate.

But it was abandoned in a rural area.

So? They're not going to keep investigating?

The police are carrying out a blanket search.

I'm sure we'll hear something soon.

No. That's too passive.

Can't Ling Yizhou do something about it?

I'm sure he's doing whatever he can.

Stop covering up for him. I saw the news.

I can understand drinking your sorrows away,

but who the hell was that woman?

Mr. Ling owns the bar.

That woman is the bar's manager.

Why did the manager have to go to a hotel room with her boss?

I'm sure Mr. Ling would never do anything that would hurt Mrs. Ling.

He'd better not. Or it won't just be betraying Linlin,

-it will also be... -Be what?

Before we find Linlin, keep an eye on him for me.

The number you dialed is unavailable.

Please try again--

Hello?

Hello, Mr. Wen. I saw the news about Yizhou.

Are things between him and Linlin alright?

They are doing fine.

You can't trust the news these days.

We're doing everything we can.

OK.

Glad to hear that. Linlin hasn't been picking up her phone.

I'm worried about her.

Mrs. Ling is doing fine.

Is that all you wanted to know?

Yes. That's all.

I'll hang up now. Goodbye.

Goodbye.

Can I help you?

Do I know you?

It's fine. All that matters is I know you.

Let go of him.

Not any random woman can touch him.

You're Yin Shuangshuang?

If you know that, why are you still standing here?

Even if you want a bite of him, I still came first.

Aren't you my spokesperson?

Director Ling, what a coincidence. I'll get you a drink.

Sure.

Where should we drink?

Your house.

There's news about you staying at Ms. Yin's house. Should we take it down?

No. We'll see what happens.

Your mother can't get in touch with Mrs. Ling.

She called me to ask about her.

You know what to say.

Yes, sir.

You're awake?

What are you doing?

This isn't my bed. I couldn't fall asleep.

But you didn't have a problem with it.

If you miss your bed, you should take me home.

Why do you want to leave?

Aren't we getting along quite well?

I wasn't careful enough before.

That's why this is happening to me now.

Trust me. This is just the beginning.

What are you going to threaten him with?

He doesn't have to do anything.

I just want to see him lose the woman he loves

and never be happy.

You'll never succeed. He'll find me.

Well...

before he finds you...

there'll probably be a new Mrs. Ling.

I thought he'd last longer than this.

But he moved on pretty fast.

Maybe I overestimated how much he cares about you.

Nan Jintian.

I know what kind of person Ling Yizhou is.

Don't waste your time trying to drive us apart.

I'm just showing you the real him.

You just want me to doubt him and lose trust in him.

That way, even if he finds me, we won't be the same anymore.

He stayed at Yin Shuangshuang's house.

What did they do there?

Should I explain it to you?

I trust him.

I've always hated people...

who lose their rationality over love.

It's time to send him a present.

Sir, someone sent this to the front desk and said it was a gift for you.

Ling Yizhou! I trusted you!

Were you just pretending in front of us?

Linlin just got kidnapped and now you're out with other women?

Miss Jia, I'm at work right now. Please leave.

-Feifei, come with me. -Let go!

You're at work?

What a great excuse.

I want to talk about Linlin right now. Can you do that?

Miss Jia,

you're a friend of Linlin's.

So I'm giving you another chance.

Please leave this room immediately.

Wow.

You're such a hypocrite, Director Ling.

Too bad we don't know if Linlin will ever see this side of you.

Oh, have you thought about your unborn child?

What child? What did you just say?

Your wife, Xia Lin, is four weeks pregnant.

She was going to give you a surprise on your birthday.

But I guess you gave her a terrible surprise first.

GANGDONG MEDICAL CENTER TYPE B ULTRASOUND PREGNANCY SCAN

Feifei.

You're emotional right now. Let me drive you home.

Let go of me! Why should I trust you?

Just a manager meeting her boss?

He sent you to calm me down, didn't he?

You're all the same.

Feifei, I'm not going to argue with you right now.

Do you have the nerve to?

I'm just telling the truth.

Ling Yizhou has an affair and you cover it up for him.

Can you say you didn't know about it?

Feifei, you can take your anger out on me,

but stop all this nonsense.

I'll be responsible for what I say.

From now on, stay away from me.

I'm done with you.

Why did you kiss me?

I didn't want to hear what you'd say next.

So it was just to make me shut up?

-You do this to other people, too? -No.

Only you.

Feifei.

I know it's bad timing,

but if I don't say this now, I worry I'll never get another chance.

What is it?

Feifei.

In the past, I never knew what it was like to like someone.

But then I met you.

It's like I can only see your face in a crowd.

When I don't see you, I miss you.

I want to get closer to you.

I want to take care of you.

I want to see you happy, not sad.

You dork.

Why are you telling me this now?

I guess the crisis stirred up some emotions inside me.

Feifei, I like you.

Will you give me a chance?

You'll have to find Linlin first.

Don't worry. Mr. Ling has a plan.

What do you mean?

Ling, Xia Lin...

Chu Yan, why are you here?

I have to act in your play. You even got Yin Shuangshuang to help.

If I don't, how will you do it without me?

Hey.

You should know better. How could you just disappear?

Thank you. You may leave now.

What's going on?

I went to see An Ran. She's still not talking.

What about the men you sent? Nothing?

Nothing.

If they're not taking the initiative...

we'll have to force them to show their hand.

But we've done a lot of acting.

-Why haven't we heard anything yet? -We have.

I'm sure that Xia Lin and the child are safe.

Or else he wouldn't threaten me with this.

You're in a good mood.

I am.

I have good news.

I'm going to be a dad.

Aren't you going to congratulate me?

How far along is she?

Four weeks.

That's not very long.

What if...

I mean what if...

What if she loses the child?

I don't know what I'd do then.

You know what kind of family I came from, what my parents were like.

People might think I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth.

That I always got what I wanted.

But I know that all I want is a happy family.

What are you trying to say?

I could have...

got everything I wanted on my birthday.

But now, my wife and child have disappeared.

An Ran.

I'm begging you. Please help me.

Let me have my chance to be happy.

Yizhou...

But I'm not the person who can make you happy.

Do you know who sent me the photo?

Who?

Nan Jintian.

You... You know everything?

I was just guessing.

Thanks for giving me the answer.

Why do you have so many enemies?

Competitors, acquired companies, people I made bankrupt.

And some personal feuds.

You really dug up some dirt on them.

These are just from the past few days.

It's not enough, but it's a start.

Sir, you had me investigate Nan Jintian. I found something suspicious.

Nan Jintian?

Isn't he your mom's stepson?

He's connected to Zhuoyuan Group?

Yes. We've been discussing cooperation with Zhuoyuan lately.

So, he made sure you were busy with work

and took the opportunity to kidnap Xia Lin.

That seems logical.

But why would he want to do that to you?

That's not the only suspicious thing.

A lot of our employees were quitting to work somewhere else.

I looked into those small companies

and found that all their representatives used to work at Nan Jintian's company.

But just from that, we still can't be sure that he has Xia Lin.

I know how to make sure.

An Ran,

I gave you a chance to come clean, but you didn't take it.

Whether I take it or not...

it doesn't make any difference.

You'll never see me again.

She's missed you all these years.

I often catch her looking at your photos.

She treats me well,

but I know that...

she's just projecting her feelings on me.

The person she misses is you.

Long time no see.

I'll help you.

Help me with what?

After all, we are brothers.

Right, brother?

Head to Lingyun Hotel.

Yes, sir.

Yizhou?

I have to ask you something.

Come in.

How's your relationship with Nan Jintian?

He's quite antisocial.

We've never been close.

If I remember correctly,

you joined the Nan family right after Nan Jintian's mother passed away.

That was so long ago.

Why did you bring that up?

I want to know why Nan Jintian kidnapped Mumu.

He kidnapped her?

He kidnapped Mumu on my birthday.

How could this happen?

I've never done anything to him.

I couldn't figure out why he did this.

The only possible reason is because of you.

Yizhou.

I'm sorry.

This is all my fault.

Back then...

Nan Jintian's mother's illness took a turn for the worse...

because...

she saw me with his father.

Your relationship hurt a lot of people.

It ruined my life before, and now it's doing it again.

Just because you're my mother,

that's why Nan Jintian is taking all his anger out on me.

Are you happy now?

But...

Sir, the police have found Nan Jintian's location.

Nan Jintian, did you do this?

Did you kidnap Xia Lin?

Mother, what are you talking about?

I don't understand what you're saying.

Nan Jintian, it was all my fault.

You should take it out on me.

Don't hurt innocent people.

Innocent?

She's your son's beloved wife.

How could she be innocent?

Is Ling Yizhou almost worried to death right now?

I'm sure he's very scared.

Too bad I didn't get to see his expression.

Nan Jintian, let Xia Lin go immediately.

Or else I'll tell your dad about this.

My dad?

He doesn't want me as his son.

Why would he worry about what I do?

Have you forgotten that you caused all this?

You went too far.

You can't blame your father for being cruel.

Your father still cares about you.

He cares about me?

I just played a few pranks on you.

And he kicked me out.

The way he cares about me seems quite strange.

Sir, the police are here.

Mother.

You're trying so hard to make your son forgive you.

How considerate of you.

You even called to stall me.

It's not too late to stop, Nan Jintian.

I'm afraid you'll be disappointed then.

I'm going to give you a huge gift.

They just left.

Block the highways. Don't let them leave the city.

Got it.

Keep an eye on them.

Where are you taking me?

I'm tired of that room. We're staying somewhere else.

Ling Yizhou found that place, didn't he?

Or else you wouldn't be in such a rush.

If you don't want to get hurt, stay still.

I'll be quick.

So what if he found it?

I'm still one step ahead.

What does that mean?

It means that you're slipping up.

He'll find me soon.

You're wrong.

It only means that...

I'm smarter than him.

I'll be the one who wins in the end.

Don't look at me like that.

It's no use.

Let's make a deal.

Couldn't hold it in anymore?

That was faster than I expected.

I know how much Director Ling can drink.

You wouldn't be drunk with just a few drinks.

So, you wanted to be seen?

If you knew, why did you play along?

I know that Director Ling is very generous.

Aren't you worried they will shame you for wrecking my marriage?

Director Ling was being harassed at the bar.

As Mrs. Ling's former colleague and friend,

I couldn't let that happen.

The woman at the bar

was all the protection I needed. Right, Mr. Ling?

I'll send the contract for next year's spokesperson to the agency.

Subtitle translation by Sophie Chang

Someone has been covering up Nan Jintian's tracks.

Could this slip-up be an intentional clue they were leaving us?

I have to thank you.

You added a lot of dramatic effect

to this play I'm directing right now.

You let them find us on purpose.

Why did you lock the door?

Xia Lin?

Why do you have the courage to keep testing my limits?

Because we're friends.

From what I know,

he's probably doing this to avenge his biological mother.
