>> Liam: Phoebe's not gonna miss

her first Independence Day.

>> Steffy: Uh, excuse me, Kelly

did.

She slept right through it.

Hey.

Where'd you go?

>> Liam: [ Sighs ]

I was thinking about when I went

to see Hope the other day, to

apologize for the party and...

>> Steffy: Yeah.

>> Liam: tell her about...that.

>> Steffy: Yeah, I know I wasn't

easy, but at least you were open

and honest.

>> Liam: Yeah, because if

anybody was gonna tell her we

made love, it -- it had to be

me.

>> Thomas: Hey.

Dad and Brooke were asking about

you down by the pool.

>> Hope: Is Douglas still with

them?

>> Thomas: Uh, no, he's --

he's upstairs getting changed.

He's really excited to see the

fireworks with you tonight.

>> Hope: Should be beautiful.

>> Thomas: Only if you're up for

it.

>> Hope: I don't want to let

Douglas down.

>> Thomas: It's okay to be upset

about Liam and my sister.

I mean, they're back together,

and not just as co-parents, but

as a couple.

>> Hope: You know, I'm just

trying to not to think about

that right now.

I just want to give Douglas the

best 4th of July he's ever had.

It's his first holiday without

his mother, and, you know, it

might be hard for him.

>> Thomas: I'm so proud of him,

how he's dealt with all of this.

I mean, his -- his courage,

and...

a lot of that's because of you.

It's true, Hope.

You showed him he wasn't alone.

You got him through those

feelings of -- of loss and

rejection.

>> Hope: Well, his mother didn't

want to leave him, Thomas.

Caroline died.

>> Thomas: Well, we know that,

but he's a little boy.

I mean, all he feels is -- is...

loss and abandonment.

>> Hope: Well, he hasn't been,

not at all.

>> Thomas: No, and I'm trying to

reinforce that every single day.

I want to make sure that he

doesn't forget it because he

could get set back in his

progress so easily.

He just needs to know that he's

loved.

>> Hope: Thomas...

He knows that you adore him.

>> Thomas: It'd be good for him

to know that you love him, too.

>> Brooke: Are you sure?

>> Ridge: Yes, I am.

>> Brooke: Oh! Thomas.

I thought you'd be upstairs with

Douglas.

>> Thomas: Uh, yeah, I'm

actually heading up there now.

I'll see you at the cabin later.

>> Ridge: Son.

>> Hope: I, um -- I'm sorry I

didn't come down and join you

earlier.

>> Ridge: Well, sometimes you

just, uh, got to take a moment

for yourself.

>> Brooke: So, what were you and

Thomas talking about?

>> Hope: Liam and Steffy, the

night of the party.

>> Brooke: I hope that Liam

apologized for his behavior.

>> Hope: Yeah, he did, actually.

He, um, came to see me at the

cabin the next morning.

>> Brooke: Oh!

You didn't tell me that.

>> Hope: I just needed some time

to process on my own.

>> Brooke: Process what?

>> Hope: Liam told me something.

He and Steffy made love.

They're back together.

>> Liam: Hope was, uh...

She was hurt.

She was really hurt.

>> Steffy: Well, you had to be

honest.

>> Liam: Yeah, well, believe me,

she was just as honest with me.

>> Steffy: And that's good,

You were able to say everything

you needed to say.

>> Liam: I just -- I don't want

her to be more hurt, you know?

I don't want her to be more

vulnerable.

>> Steffy: Vulnerable to what?

My brother?

>> Thomas: Did you have fun

swimming with Grandpa and

Brooke?

>> Douglas: I guess.

>> Thomas: Well, you seemed like

you were having fun.

>> Douglas: Daddy, is Mommy

still in Heaven?

>> Thomas: Yes.

>> Douglas: Will I see her

again?

>> Thomas: You mean, is she

coming back?

Um...no, Douglas.

I'm sorry, she's gone.

But, you know, when she was

here, she said something to me.

She said that if she ever went

up there to Heaven, that she'd

be happy if you were happy.

Okay?

And -- And you're happy when

you're with Hope, aren't you?

>> Douglas: Yes.

>> Thomas: Well, me too, okay?

And that's -- that's what gonna

happen.

You, me, and Hope, we're gonna

be together, we're gonna be

a family.

But I need your help, okay?

>> Douglas: [ Gasps ]

>> Thomas: Look at that.

>> Hope: I appreciate Liam being

honest with me.

I guess it was inevitable that

he and Steffy would make love

again.

I just didn't think it would be

so soon.

I mean, this was the man that

was fighting so hard for our

marriage, the man I thought I'd

spend the rest of my life with,

and...

raise our daughter together.

But...

He gets to have all that with

Steffy now.

I mean, of course they'd get

back together.

You know, they live together.

They're parents, they're

partners, and they love each

other, and the love those girls,

and...

how could I be angry at that?

Yes, it hurts.

I can't pretend it doesn't,

but...

I guess I am jealous,

on some levels, about the life

they're gonna have together as a

family, all the holidays, all

the birthdays, the ball games,

the recitals...

All of the firsts.

But their life is gonna be

beautiful.

Every bit as beautiful as the

life that we would have had with

Beth.

But wishing isn't gonna bring

that back.

Beth is gone.

No.

And the life we wanted

was never meant to be.

>> Liam: Where's Daddy?

Where's Daddy?

Yes!

>> Steffy: I told you she

couldn't wait to see the

fireworks.

>> Liam: I know!

It's not even dark yet,

Princess!

[ Phoebe babbling ]

Oh, she's impatient.

>> Steffy: Well, maybe our

little peacemaker is trying to

distract us from talking about

Uncle Thomas.

[ Grunts ] All right.

You're getting big!

>> Liam: I -- I know what your

brother means to you, Steffy.

I do.

>> Steffy: Yeah, you just --

You don't trust him.

>> Liam: Well, he gives me

reason not to.

I mean, every time I'm around

the guy, he's pushing the

envelope...

on too strong with Hope when you

were married to her.

And if I were in town, I

would have told him to knock

it off, but I wasn't.

I can't blame him for wanting

Hope to be part of Douglas'

life.

You know, she's an incredible

woman.

>> Liam: I --

>> Steffy: You see how she is

with Phoebe.

She's meant to be a mom.

>> Liam: I know! I know.

I agree.

Hope would be an incredible

mother, but that's not Thomas'

only objective.

>> Steffy: Well, he wants the

three of them to be a family.

Thomas doesn't want Hope to be

Douglas' mother.

That's not even a thing.

Thomas wants Hope for himself,

and he's not gonna let anything

stand in his way.

him sound like he's obsessed.

>> Steffy: Yeah, I'll admit, my

brother is intense, but if he is

committed to making a life with

Hope and Douglas, I honestly

don't see anything wrong with

that.

>> Liam: Well, I do.

>> Thomas: Now, we can come back

We have to finish getting ready.

We're heading over to Hope's

cabin to watch the fireworks.

>> Douglas: Will there be ice

Mommy liked ice cream with

fireworks.

>> Thomas: Yeah, I bet Hope

married.

And then she'll be your mommy.

Did Hope go down to the cabin?

>> Brooke: Yeah, a while ago.

>> Ridge: Okay, I should tell

Thomas because they're gonna

watch the fireworks together

with Douglas.

>> Brooke: I know.

>> Ridge: That little kid's

really excited.

And, who knows, maybe that'll

cheer up your daughter a little

bit, too.

>> Thomas: It's called a

proposal.

>> Douglas: When you ask Hope to

get married?

>> Thomas: Yeah, except this

one's gonna be more special

because you're also gonna ask

her to be your mommy, too.

You want to give it a try?

>> Douglas: "My daddy wanted me

to ask you to marry him."

>> Thomas: Oh, no, uh...

So not like that, okay?

You can't tell her that I told

you to do it.

>> Douglas: You did.

>> Thomas: Right, yes.

Yes, but, see, Hope can't know

that.

Because it's our little secret.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Fireworks shooting ]

>> Liam: Uh, hey, Steff, the

fireworks are starting!

>> Hope: Liam! I'm pregnant!

>> Liam: Oh, my God.

>> Ridge: I know you're worried

about Hope.

>> Brooke: Aren't you?

>> Ridge: She's not alone.

She has us.

And she's strong.

Like her beautiful mother.

>> Brooke: Yeah, just --

I wish she didn't need to be so

strong.

>> Ridge: I don't think she's

second-guessing her decision to

end her marriage.

And I think Liam is exactly

where she wants him to be.

With Steffy.

And Steffy and Liam putting

their family back together...

I know has got to make you happy

a little bit, too, for the kids.

>> Steffy: Wow!

>> Liam: Do you see that one?

Do you see all the sparkles?

>> Steffy: Oh! [ Gasps ]

>> Liam: Oh, it's so big and

bright!

>> Steffy: You're so good with

her.

>> Liam: Well, she makes it

easy.

I meant to say this earlier, but

I -- I wasn't sure if I should.

Today must be bittersweet for

you.

Beth must be on your mind.

This was the day Hope told you

she was pregnant.

>> Liam: Uh, yeah.

Yeah, it is.

I don't just remember what

happened, I also remember what

never happened, you know?

So, yeah, when I think back to

how excited Hope and I were last

year, it's --

It's, uh -- [ Laughs ]

It's like you said, it's just --

It's bittersweet, that's all.

But I got to tell you,

being here with the girls,

It's nice, it helps. It's --

It's comforting.

Especially Phoebe.

[ Chuckles ]

Because Phoebe's got to be

around the age that Beth would

have been, I think.

And I'm not -- I'm not --

I'm not comparing them, you

know, I'm not projecting, and I

know Phoebe's adopted, but...

when I hold her...

When I hold her, the love is the

same, you know?

It's just as strong, and just --

And I realize this little angel

is my daughter now.

She really is.

[ Sighs ]

smiling again.

>> Hope: Well, I love fireworks.

Ever since I was a little girl,

the 4th of July was special to

me.

The whole family would get

together, get the blankets, lay

out on the yard, look up at the

night sky.

>> Douglas: Hope...

I have something important to

ask.

>> Hope: What is it, Douglas?

>> Douglas: You make me and my

daddy so happy when my mommy is

gone, but when I'm with you,

I don't feel sad anymore.

I don't want you to be sad,

either.

I love you, Hope.
