and I would like to host a all citywide talent show
with the board's approval of course.
- What's this have to do with the city?
- Well, I would love the winner of the talent show
to perform at this year's bicentennial celebration.
And I know you all put that on so...
- So a talent show?
And what exactly would our part be?
- Well, I could use your help actually,
but I would help plan the whole thing
and with advertising, sponsorships, ticket sales,
and all the great talent we have here in Briar Glen,
I think we could put on a great show,
and then the proceeds would be split.

Breaking news this afternoon,
the city of Briar Glen has announced construction
of a brand new mini mall consisting of 18 retailers,
each expected to occupy the new site by next August.
Now, this project partially being supported
by Town Park Corporation, will bring a slew of jobs
to the city and an increase in much needed revenue.
The mayor has told WKTO that Briar Glenn is on the way
to becoming a more self-sustainable community.
This is Vanessa Warren with WKTO Channel 10.
Back to you, Sam.
- Thank you, Vanessa.
And onto to the entertainment segment.
Dozens of talented individuals in the Briar Glen
and the surrounding areas are getting geared up
for what one calls the talent show of the decade.
The talent show will be held in December,
and the city of Briar Glen has agreed
to a special performance
at this year's bicentennial celebration for the winner.

but are you Nora Jeffries?

Cole is such a great guy.
I understand he left you?
Well, here's your check, no rush,
hope y'all have a lovely day.
- Unbelievable, she just lost her tip.
- Right? - Yeah, right.
- Nora, your store might have a bright future
if things go the way I think they will.
How many acts do we have registered so far?
- So far, we have 30. - 30?
- Yeah. - Are you serious?
- Yeah.
- Wow, that's fantastic.
- But you know, I think maybe a little bit too many
for one talent show.
I don't know.
What do you think?
We might have to weed some of those out.
- I'd like to weed out that rude waitress,
that's what I'd like to do.
- Molly (chuckling).
- And the winner has to be fantastic.
So the more talent we see, the better.
And the governor is coming, so let's impress him.
- Nice.
- And I agree with you.
We'll have to weed this thing down a bit.
- Okay, what if we have a round one
and we'll let everyone take the stage
and show us what they got.
Then we can allow the judges to award a top 15 or something?
- And we'll announce the top five
until there's one contestant left standing.
- The final contestant.
- Yes, brilliant. - You got it.
- I like that.
- Hey, how's everything at home?
- Camila's never there.
If she is there, she's finding something to complain about.
And she found out that I registered
to compete in a talent show.
- I'm scared to ask.
- She won't come.
She'll say she's sick.
- Uh-oh, who's sick?
- Oh, no one, dad.
- Wesley, good to see here.
Studying I see.
- Good evening, Mayor Robbins.
- Michael is fine.
- Hey honey, look what came today.
- Mom, stop.
- Congratulations on being accepted to Highland University.
You did it, Clara!
- Thanks, but we don't have to talk about this right now.
- Clara, we're so proud of you.
You have our full support no matter where you choose to go.
- Oh, Wesley, Claire tells me you registered
for the talent show.
- Yes sir, I did. - I think that's great.
They asked me to be a judge.
I'm looking forward to it.
Hey, why don't you come over for dinner sometime,
especially since you're helping Clara
with her math homework,
not a banner subject for her if you may have noticed.
- Honey, she gets it, honestly.
- I gotta go.
My grandma's gonna have my high
if I don't get home to her supper.
- Well, it's so good to see you again, Wesley.
You're welcome anytime.

Clearly, I need it.
- And clearly, you get it honestly.
I love your family.
They're so chill
. Your dad is more of a dad to me than my own.
- We're always here for you.
You know, just try and stay positive.
One day, maybe all of this will make sense,
but until then, just go out there on that stage and shine
and show them all who you really are.
- That's the plan.
(Clara and Wesley chuckling)
- I'm telling you, Molly, the mayor's really impressed
with what we've accomplished so far.
Yes, that means you too.
Yeah, I'm at the store now.
Okay, I'll see you soon, bye.
(doorbell chiming)

You mean like the trouble that you've been causing me
since you kicked me outta my house?
- That's my house.
And I'm not rehashing this with you today.

as all I'm seeing
is your pretty little face scattered all over the news.
But don't worry, Nora, I'll be right here cheering you on.

the talent show brought to you by Nora Jeffries
and the city will be featuring some
of Briar Glen's most talented.
The elimination round will be happening next week
with the final contestants taking the stage thereafter.
It's your last chance to get tickets
to support these individuals
and to help raise funding
for the new mini mall expected next year.

- Hello?
Well, when did this happen?
Oh my gosh.
Okay, I'll be right there.
(birds chirping)
Avery, are you okay?
- Is this my fault, mommy? - What?
No, of course it's not your fault.
It's not your shortcoming.
Bethany, what happened?
- Some kids, they tripped her in the hallway.
They said it was an accident.
The school, they decided to call the squad
and bring her here and it's precautionary.
I hope that's okay.
- Yes, well, I appreciate you Bethany,
but I just wish...
Is everything gonna be okay?
- She's good, she's got a little bump on her head for sure,
but we did a full examination
and she passed with flying colors.
All I could say is she might be a little sore
for a couple of days.
Other than that, she's looking good.
Just a small little goosebump.
- So what about the school?
I get it.
You only have so much leverage as a teacher,
but I think I have a right
to ask if they're gonna do anything about this.
- There are cameras in the hallways,
and once the footage has been reviewed,
parents will be contacted.
- I'm not sure parents really care these days,
or the school for that matter.
- Trust me, Avery isn't the only one being picked on.

and this is on your shoulders.
- There needs to be consequences
for those who are putting her in this situation.
- And it's time for our community to get better from you,
the families, the children, everyone.
- We're gonna use a lot of this space here.
Hey, good evening, Mr. Mayor.
It's nice to see you again.

for allowing our company to help.

- 44.
- There are that many talented people in Briar Glen?
- Yeah, I saw a few earlier.
I wouldn't say they're all talented.
- Guys, I think they're ready to get started.
- As you know, tonight is a way
to narrow down the contestants
who will be performing in the actual talent show next week.
