[intriguing music playing]
[phone vibrating]
Hey, Andy, what's up?
[Andy speaking]
Look out!
Whoo, baby, yeah!
[Jonathan] That's not good.
It's been a struggle.
I'll do what I can do, buddy.
It's rally time.
[Monte speaking]
Are you [bleep] me?
Half a million dollar load of crab and a tank
that's going to kill those crab.
We're not gonna be able to rest anymore.
Why is Jake turning right now?
Keith left his back door open, and we're just about
to raid his kitchen.
Guys on deck, we're gonna find out.
Ain't going to be no stopping.
[Sig] This is the end of the bairdi season.
I mean, we've got to get in for that offload.
So if this is what it takes to get there, then so be it.
[indistinct exclamations]
[Jonathan] Watch out.
[cheering]
[Andy speaking]
Yeah.
We're not the kind of guys that quit.
[narrator] 230 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor.
[deckhand] What is this?
Man! Where's our crab at?
[Jake] I switched from milk in my coffee
to whipping cream.
I'm liking it a lot better than [bleep] pots.
On the eastern bairdi crab grounds.
[Jake] This was the best fishing that I had found so far.
And I've lost the scent of the crab.
[deckhand] Sucks!
And I'm starting to get worried
'cause it's all gonna affect me purchasing the Titan.
Aiming to make the switch from hired gun
to owner-operator of the Titan Explorer,
Captain Jake Anderson sleuths out his final 50,000 pounds
of crab before mandatory offload in just 72 hours.
[deckhand] What have we got, what have we got?
[groaning]
[deckhand #2] No good!
I see Keith out there. He's a little south of me.
I'm gonna give him a call.
Twelve miles south...
[OJ] All right, here we go.
You got to be right here somewhere.
Come on.
...aboard the Wizard.
[deckhand] Yeah!
[deckhand #2] Oh, man.
That's a good start. Right on.
[Keith grunts]
[OJ] Oh, yeah.
All right.
[deckhands cheering]
[Keith] This little vein of crab here
is as hot as it can get for bairdi.
And... [Keith sighs].
So far, no competition right here.
[OJ] All right, now we're fishing.
With $150,000 of bairdi crab in his tanks and over 10 miles
from the nearest boat, Captain Keith Colburn
races to harvest his remaining 20,000 pounds of quota
before the fleet catches the scent.
At north, the entire fleet is just sitting there,
the lights on the horizon.
That's where we were. Fishing where Sig is right now.
He's watching me. He can tell that I'm hauling.
And he gets a hint of crab, he throws every pot he's got on it.
So we don't need Sig right on top of us.
[OJ speaking]
[phone vibrating]
Jake, how you doing?
I'm getting my butt kicked here a little bit.
I'm -- I'm just trying to find a better place...
OK. Uh...
[OJ speaking]
I don't know yet, just...
[Wizard crew cheering]
[Jake] Yeah.
[Keith speaking]
Your daddy, Sig, he's like a bloodhound, man.
I have you beeline it towards
the east, where I'm gonna set a decoy string.
If I am comfortable that I have my crab on board,
I'll let you clean out the rest of my gear at the end
if you're not getting it, OK?
OK.
24 and 15, OK?
OK, later.
I've pulled a decoy set a bunch of times.
I mean, like, some epic, amazing decoy sets.
Keith's plan?
Lure Sig away from the Wizard's crab-rich grounds
with 20 pots set in a dead zone to the east.
He's trying to use my boat to set Sig up just to keep Sig away
from his hotspot.
A ruse bolstered by a string from his dear friend,
Jake Anderson.
[Jake] Which, he's on good fishing.
I know that.
I've been watching him go up and down,
up and down, just like a cornfield.
He's getting fat while everybody else is starved
on the streets.
Nine miles north.
We're getting towards the end of our bairdi season,
and, you know, everybody wants to go home.
You know, Clark obviously wants to see his new baby.
Of course, I miss my wife and my family.
On the Northwestern...
[Sig] However, right now, we're seeing a little dip
in the fishing.
There's always the rumor mill, and there's always that
grass is greener, that better spot, and right now,
that's just right down below me.
I know...
that Keith is poking around, and Jake as well.
I'll give him a shout here.
[phone ringing]
[indistinct]
You copy, Jake?
[Jake] Uh...yeah.
How's it going out there?
[Sig] Fishing, where we're at now, up north is
kind of dropping off.
Not good.
[Sig speaking]
say anything?
[Jake speaking]
I mean, by the looks of it, he's got that area
pretty well covered.
Well...
he's gonna leave.
Why would he leave, and how do you know that?
He's trying to...
set a fake set to dupe you into following him.
[Sig laughs]
Is he that paranoid?
[Jake speaking]
Well, if that's the case, then...
Reverse this whole thing so it backfires in his face.
All right.
[Sig] And I'll guarantee you one thing.
He better be afraid.
[Jake laughs]
OK, bye.
[Jake] OK, later.
I'm very close with Keith.
And he pulled me out of the water and saved my life.
But we're fishing now.
I'm gonna take that crab...
because he would do the same to me.
What I do know is that if a guy is so paranoid to try
to decoy me away from an area, then the odds are
that's the place to go.
140 miles southwest...
on the western red king crab grounds.
We got big weather coming,
and we got offload date looming down on us.
I got about three more days.
Aboard the Time Bandit.
[Jonathan] But it takes two days to get back.
So we don't have time to dilly.
Or dally.
How do you like that one, Heather?
Helming the last boat fishing reds,
Captain Jonathan Hillstrand must solve a complex equation.
20,000 pounds of quota...
from 80 pots in 72 hours.
With one variable.
A 220-mile-wide low pressure system
heading straight for the western grounds.
-All right, let's do it. -[Freddy] Roger.
Whoo!
[tense music playing]
[Jonathan] All we need is a 40 average.
Knock on wood, baby.
[cheering]
[Russell] Come on, baby.
Come on, baby.
[Freddy] Whoo!
[deckhand] That's what I'm talking about right there.
Whoo! Yeah!
[Time Bandit crew cheering]
-Red gold, baby, red gold. -It's coming home mama.
I'm going fast, mama. I'm going fast, mama.
Going fast mama, going fast.
[Freddy] Whoo!
[Jonathan] How many you get, Russ?
[Russell speaking]
Twenty-two.
I mean, it'll work, but we need better.
I was hoping we'd get a few more pounds on this string,
you know, a few more crabs, but guess I gotta figure out
what to do.
[mechanical whirring]
[indistinct chatter among crew]
My main just died. I think I lost --
-Neal! -[deckhand] What the hell?
[Jonathan speaking]
Oh!
You there, Neal?
-[Jonathan] Neal? -Yeah?
[Jonathan] Port main just died.
On the Time Bandit...
I got it running now.
I need someone to come back here and see if I got line
in the [bleep] wheel. -[Russell] Copy.
I don't think I do. [bleep], I don't know.
-Yes, you do. -[Jonathan] OK, [bleep].
-[Russell] In a port. -[Jonathan] OK, yeah,
let's get it.
[deckhand] Yeah, roger.
Problem with line in the wheel...
we could have too much line in the wheel
for that propeller to even work again.
Like a yo-yo can wrap it right up, pull the line up.
So it might kill that motor.
And I got to go to Dutch.
...and ram rod it out.
[Freddy] Roger, Roger.
[grunting]
Teddy, give me a hand right here, give --
Give it to me.
Just ram rod it out, forward and reverse.
[Freddy] It's pretty tight, boss.
[mechanical grinding]
Pretty super tight, boss. It's gonna break.
[Jonathan speaking]
I got to throw it in reverse now.
Hold it in and turn it off.
[propeller whirring]
[deckhand speaking]
[Jonathan] Need someone to hold it right there.
[deckhand speaking]
[Freddy grunting]
-Pull it in. -Nice and slow, man.
Man...
Keep that [bleep] on board, all right?
[Jonathan speaking]
We've just got to make sure it's not too much line
in the wheel, or else we could be KO'd.
[Neal] OK.
So Neal has this camera he got from my dad.
So you can see the bottom.
-We can look at our props. -Sea view.
It's gonna be a prop view.
We have to do the port one, Neal.
[Neal] OK.
I can see it on the screen already.
All right, let's do it.
OK.
I can see the rudder.
[Neal] OK.
OK. Go -- go up.
Go up. Tilt it upward.
[intriguing music playing]
There it is. Stop right there.
Stop! Right there.
Oh, yeah, there's a [bleep] lot of line in it.
You got a [bleep] pile of line.
Bad, bad, bad.
You can see I got a lot of line.
The shaft's usually this big. It's this big now.
It's got all that line on it. It's very bad.
My boat's down to one and a half props.
So we're gonna be a real slow boat, like a six-knot boat,
instead of an eight-knot boat. So it's gonna slow us down.
-We're crippled. -[deckhand] Coming up.
We're crippled, but we're not out.
If we can roll through this gear
and get another pick, then I can get that offload.
It's got to keep going, even if it's slow,
get as much as we can get done.
Get my ass out of here and go to town.
[deckhand] Come to papa!
[Jonathan] We got a lot of pots to pull,
but the weather's coming up, too.
[deckhand] Set it back!
Just keep on going. Keep on turning.
[Russell] OK, going over.
150 miles northeast...
[Keith] They're ready to get their stack off the boat.
[deckhand] Whoo!
[Keith] I'm ready to get this stack off the boat.
On the Wizard.
[Keith] Sig's gonna see me and the kids sitting in a spot
that's about seven miles from where he's at now.
He's gonna have to come look.
[OJ] Watch out.
Whoo!
[Keith speaking]
[deckhand] Roger!
To bait Sig away from his 200 pots set on hot fishing,
Captain Keith commences with Operation Decoy Set,
bedding 50 pots from the Wizard and Titan Explorer,
set to the east of his gear, will add up
to an irresistible draw to one Captain Sig Hansen.
[tense music playing]
[phone vibrating]
Hey, Keith.
[Keith speaking]
Yeah.
...just keep barreling down the hill right at me, OK?
You might have to pretend you're setting a string.
Slow down.
All right, I'm out, OK?
Yeah, I'm not doing any of that.
[phone vibrating]
Jakers.
[phone vibrating]
You ready?
[Sig speaking]
...Let's get some.
It looks like he's too far away to do anything about it.
[laughter]
[Jake] All right, I'm on my way.
[Sig speaking]
I mean, it's kind of ridiculous, because, Keith,
it's like you're leaving your ducklings to protect them,
and -- and you're going away from the nest,
and there's a wolf in town.
There's actually two wolves in town.
[OJ speaking]
[deckhand] OK!
Why is Jake turning right now?
Why is Sig turning right now?
Are you [bleep] kidding me?
He left his back door open, and we're just about
to raid his kitchen.
[Keith] They're heading right for my gear.
230 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor.
Why is Jake turning right now?
Why is Sig turning right now?
They're heading right for my gear.
Are you [bleep] kidding me?
[phone vibrating]
Hey, Keith.
[Keith speaking]
...what are you doing right now? Because...
I'm seeing...
Yeah, OK, whatever...
He's trying to use me and give me the scraps
on the edge of his plate.
But I'm hungry.
[Keith speaking]
[tense music playing]
[propeller whirring, bubbles popping]
[Keith] Take it back to our gear immediately, OK?
160 miles southwest...
on the western red king crab grounds.
[Time Bandit crew cheering]
Aboard the Time Bandit.
[deckhand] Oh, yeah!
[deckhand speaking]
[Jonathan] It's right into the storm, baby.
It's gonna be big seas out here.
Open a can of storm.
[deckhand] Just another day.
Ah-ha, ha!
[Jonathan] I got a bunch of line in the shop.
Usually we run around 1,450 rpms,
but yesterday after I did this, I could only run about 1150.
We're not giving up now. We're gonna battle this out.
With only 56 hours left until the final delivery
of the season, and his port propeller wrapped
in a polyurethane line, Captain Jonathan limits
his last run through the gear to six knots in an effort
to avoid overheating in 30-foot seas.
Got to be in town because if we'd missed that delivery date,
they won't take our crab.
First pot, whoo-hoo!
All right, coming up.
[deckhand] Roger.
[Jonathan speaking]
Whoo! Look at that!
Aye-yi-yi.
[Freddy] Let's do it! Why not?
All we need is a 20 average.
That always looks easy on paper.
But, uh, I don't want to jinx this.
[unintelligible]
[Jonathan] Everybody set?
-[bleep] -Whoo!
Yeah, baby!
[Jonathan] That's a good pot there.
Looks, uh... let's go ahead and, uh...
...care of the crab on the way to the next spot.
[deckhand] Roger!
Whoo!
Whoa!
Hang on, Heather. Hang on, honey.
[Heather] Mercy -- ah!
[deckhand speaking]
[Jonathan] 23 thank you. We got 19 left.
We'll be real careful.
My wife's over there.
[deckhand] Here we go.
Going nuts.
[Freddy] Yeah, baby.
That's a good pot there.
[unintelligible shouting]
[Jonathan and deckhand speaking]
Oh...shiitake mushrooms. Come on.
It's getting violent.
Let's go!
That's gonna be keep building.
This is all it's gonna do is keep building.
[epic music playing]
[deckhand speaking]
[Jonathan] 35, whoo-hoo.
We're gonna get through this one
like we got through all the rest.
Bandits are fishing.
Whoo!
[epic music continues]
-Yeah! -Whoo!
We're 300 rpms down.
And we've got vibrations.
Aye-yi-yi.
Oh, man.
Hey, watch out. There's a big one.
-Run, run, run, run! -[Heather] Oh my God.
[deckhand] Watch out. -[Jonathan] Run, run, run, run!
[Heather] Hang on!
[shouting]
[Jonathan] Hey, watch out. There's a big one.
-Run, run, run, run! -[Heather] Oh my God.
[deckhand] Watch out. -[Jonathan] Run, run, run, run!
-[Jonathan] Watch out! -[Heather] Oh lord!
[shouting]
[crew exclaiming]
On the Time Bandit...
[Jonathan] You got everybody OK?
[deckhand] Yeah. Whoo!
Sorry about that.
These waves, they're coming through,
like a freight train.
[Jonathan] Aye-yi-yi.
[propeller whirring]
We're getting it done, so...
we're not the kind of guys that quit.
We're out here. We're in the storm.
We're gonna finish this. We're gonna finish.
It's a good boat. Just gotta go slow.
[Heather speaking]
Just close your eyes, Heather. Be brave.
-I got 80 to go. -[deckhand] Roger!
120 miles northeast...
on the eastern bairdi grounds.
[phone vibrating]
Jake.
[Jake speaking]
Attack!
[Jake speaking]
[deckhand] Gonna set down on the Keith.
[Sig] At the end of the day,
you know, we got to get in for that offload.
So, if this is what it takes to get there, then, so be it.
Just 18 miles east...
All right, get ready for a long night, guys.
[OJ] Roger that, cap!
[Keith] Jake and Sig...
they're trying to push me out of a hot spot.
That's not gonna happen.
Still miles from his primary fishing grounds,
Captain Keith races to fend off invasion
just 48 hours before the cannery shuts its doors.
We can't get out of gear fast enough.
Find a way to get through it.
[alarm chirping]
[alarm chirping]
Hey, guys.
[OJ] Roger that!
[OJ and Monte speaking]
[Keith and Monte speaking]
-Are you [bleep] me? -[Monte] No, I'm not [bleep].
Circulation pipes funnel fresh seawater
through the vessel's holding tanks.
If they crack, the flow and oxygen levels
drop, threatening Keith's 70,000-pound catch.
[Keith] Half a million dollar load of crab
and a tank that's gonna kill those crab.
Now it's time -- I'm gonna vacate this chair right now.
I need to get out of this wheelhouse.
[Monte] You're gonna have to get in there
and do a little excavation.
Somehow figure out how to get the pipes flowing again.
We'll deal with it.
Halting his trek west to make the repair at sea,
Keith drains 30,000 gallons of water from his live well,
leaving only hours to replace the damaged pipe
before his crab suffocate and die.
-Straight up. -[OJ] Let's go.
[Keith] Hang on. OK, you got it.
[OJ speaking]
Takes about 17 minutes to drain that tank.
So it's kind of a long 17 minutes.
My biggest concern is that we're gonna see a bunch of
dead crab down there.
About at the worst spot we can be in.
So we lost Carl Gorsenger.
"Blind Dog."
He ended up in the harbor, drowned,
and they found him in the water.
Neal sent the lantern up in honor of our friend, Carl.
It's hard being Blind Dog!
I just want everyone to know that.
โช Oh, I'm a green, green, green horn โช
โช I wish I was never born โช
[Jonathan] We loved our Carl.
[Neal] May you rest in peace.
-Love you, my brother! -[Jonathan] Love you, love you.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
Oh [bleep], we got a bonfire.
That's the Carl situation right there.
Ah-ha-ha! Carl!
Classic Carl right there.
Are you OK, Neal?
On the eastern bairdi grounds...
And we just need to suck those tanks out as fast as we can.
And then figure out what the hell's wrong in there.
How far down we got?
[Keith speaking]
Just use the ladders as a guide, goes straight down.
Move that crab as fast as you can right along that
bulkhead wall.
Hey, OJ, I can see the broken one,
that one that's right next to you.
Give that pipe that Hunter's straddling a little jiggle.
See how it feels.
[OJ speaking]
[Keith] That's the one we need to glue?
[OJ and Hunter speaking]
[indistinct]
It's right...
behind you.
[Hunter] There it goes, thank you.
[Joe] The other one, they're replacing a piece of
broken pipe with a flexible hose and two clamps.
[electric drill whirring]
[Keith] They can do the rest down there.
[Joe speaking]
We got to get out of here.
[Monte] OK, I'm gonna go dash outside.
We're real close to getting this situation
taken care of.
I just want to get those crab...
circulated again.
-[Monte] It's good to be here. -[OJ] All right.
[Monte speaking]
Get that thing capped.
[OJ] That's what I'm trying to do, cap.
[Keith] You know, we got, like...
we have dodged a huge bullet here because all those crab
are alive and they're doing great.
We're trying to limp our way across to finish line.
Dealing with Sig and Jake.
Skeeter and weasel.
You know what? I'm gonna give 'em a shout.
Ten miles west.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, baby! Come on, come on!
Mmm... that's good.
[deckhand] Yeah!
[Sig speaking]
[Keith speaking]
[Keith and Jake speaking]
And, uh...
I don't know.
[deckhand speaking]
[Jake speaking]
OK, thank you...
Keith pulled me and my crew out of a life raft,
and I'll never forget that.
So we're gonna help him out.
130 miles southwest.
We've got our last pot. Looks like a good pot, though!
Yeah, baby!
Whoo.
Can't wait to get home and spend this money.
Whoo!
[Jonathan] We've overcounted a lot this season.
We did it.
Now we got to get this boat fixed.
We'll see what we got.
[triumphant music playing]
[deckhand] Whoo!
Let's go!
We've got the last string of bairdi here.
[deckhand] Let's do it!
[Sig] We can get out of here and get this offloaded.
After evading deception, Captain Sig secures
a fall season total of 110,000 pounds of crab
worth $1.8 million.
Fishing's always a gamble, but this one is one
for the books, man.
[Northwestern crew cheering]
A $91,000 payday for each deckhand.
Keith is a very good fisherman,
but he's always looking for an angle.
And, you know, this time it just backfired.
[OJ speaking]
Well, there's no question we definitely got to
sit down here.
The crab's in the gear. We've got it.
Despite a double-cross gone bad, Captain Keith
rides the Wizard to a 120,000-pound total
and 90,000 bucks for each cadet.
[Keith] We got to get these on here and get the hell out of here.
[Jake speaking]
Nice job, you guys.
I didn't see myself working with the Hansen this year,
but Keith thinks he owns the ocean,
and I had to remind him that he doesn't own this water.
Not content to be the Wizard's apprentice,
Jake claws out a $3 million fall season.
Now, I'm a huge step closer to buying the Titan Explorer.
Who knows?
Maybe I'll buy the Wizard next.
[Jonathan speaking]
It's out.
[indistinct]
We got it.
Bring the [unintelligible] in.
You guys, thank you, team.
-We did it, dude, whoo-hoo. -We did it.
[triumphant music playing]
Guys are loving the crab.
They said they're huge -- this big.
Refusing to go quietly into the night,
Captain Jonathan Hillstrand gets the Time Bandit
back to the cannery with 100,000 pounds
of monster red king crab.
[Jonathan] Because we went out west, you guys are gonna make
about 15 more thousand dollars for king crab than we did
last year...each.
[cheering]
Snaring 135,000 bucks for each buccaneer on board.
[Jonathan] I swear to God that God blessed us, man.
God has been watching out for this boat.
The winter fisheries, it gets cold.
It'll make a grown man cry.
[Sig] It's been three years
since we've been fishing opilios.
Let's go get them.
Whoo-hoo-hoo!
[Sig] The demand is definitely out there.
And with that demand, you get a big price.
-Just let it go. -[deckhand] Let it go, let it go!
[deckhand] Argh.
Burn that thing to the ground.
Whoa, hang on. [bleep]!
[deckhand] Go, go, go, go. Go, go, go, go, go, go.
Oh [bleep]!
[Sig] You know, we don't know how much crab is out there.
We don't know where the crab are, but we are starting fresh.
We're starting new.
