It's so nice! It has been so long.

28 years ago, Goguryeo Dongmaeng Festival

Over here.

- Goodness. - Do you want to try?

- Goodness. - Oh, my.

Woo Hui

Now that I've lifted it, give me what you promised.

You promised ten iron coins.

You seem like a noble young master. Just get going...

if you don't want to face anything bad.

Get lost!

Gosh.

- Oh, dear. - Hurry.

Eul Pa So

- Go away. - Go.

Get going.

Unbelievable.

- Darn it! - You little...!

What are you doing?

- Run! - Run!

Run!

Young lady, are you all right?

Let me escort you.

Step away.

Your Highness, His Majesty is looking for you.

Mil Woo,

do you know whose daughter she is?

She seems to be from the Northern Woo family.

8 years later at the camp of the Northern Woo family

My gosh.

Admit your defeat now.

I wonder what she will become.

Right, Nanny?

I said I'd become a general.

Gosh.

You're a woman. You should prepare to get married for your family.

Nanny, will the crown prince like it?

If you become a general, we'll follow your command.

If she's dreaming of something impossible for a woman,

it might be better to nip it in the bud.

Young lady!

Where did she go this time? Young lady!

Goodness. Young lady!

I told you. Marriage isn't something you can do as you please.

Still, the second prince is the best warrior in Goguryeo.

But I won't be able to become a queen.

Besides, I'll have to live in that freezing region.

I'd rather choose to die if not with the crown prince.

Fine. If that's what you think...

What are you doing?

No one can disobey a marriage with royalty.

You're aware of it too.

The Myeong Rim family has taken the crown prince anyway.

We've been given the second son who'll never be king.

Don't you get why?

If we refuse, it'd be considered treason,

and they'll annihilate our Woo family.

That's what the father and son of the Myeong Rim family want.

For our family to survive, she must die.

No.

I'm the head of the family.

Move.

I'll do it.

On my older sister's behalf,

I'll marry the second prince.

Northern Region of Goguryeo

According to what soldiers say, he's like a monster.

I'm aware of it.

She's here.

Welcome.

The Second Prince, Go Nam Mu

I must protect this region,

so although you're a princess,

you may have to live here with me in the cold Northern regions...

without getting to go to the palace for the rest of your life.

I like it better here.

Queen Woo

Episode 2

An hour before the king's death

It's mugwort, chrysanthemum, and mint.

The queen asked me to prepare this bath for you.

What are you doing?

I just want to help your bath...

Get out.

Get out.

Why would His Majesty not have me?

As long as that woman exists,

there will be no place for you.

Do you want His Majesty?

I do.

I want him.

I want him so much! So much...

It's a love potion. It can make anyone fall in love.

If you want something,

you must pay the price.

What do you want? I'll give you anything you want.

Make me a Chief Priest.

A Chief Priest?

Well...

That's...

That's not something I can do.

When you become a queen,

tell His Majesty just one word.

One drop of this...

is enough to make him want you.

Tell him it's from the queen.

It'll take some time for the potion to work.

This is a decoction made with mercury.

It'll make your skin fair like the queen.

Will I get to become a queen too?

Did I not tell you?

I've seen the people kneel before you.

You'd better hurry now.

If you're late, His Majesty may want someone else.

Your Majesty, I'll grind the medicinal herbs.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty!

His Majesty is...

You must hurry up and call the royal physician.

He has already...

passed away.

This is Eul Pa So.

Your Majesty!

Please open your eyes, Your Majesty!

Please wake up, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty!

Please open your eyes.

You still have so much to do, Your Majesty.

Please wake up.

Your Majesty!

Should we inform the others?

No. Not yet.

Make sure no one else finds out.

Tell only Her Highness.

Yes, My Lord.

Please wake up, Your Majesty.

Your Highness.

His Majesty...

has passed away.

Where is the Great Shaman?

Where is she?!

One drop of this...

is enough to make him want you.

Father.

Your Highness.

What are you doing? Escort her right now.

What happened to him?

We don't know yet.

Isn't it obvious?

The wound was too deep.

His Majesty has died.

The treatment might've gone wrong,

or someone might've harmed him.

Investigate thoroughly.

What will happen to us now?

His Majesty's death...

is the death of the Woo family.

He left without a son.

So his younger brother, Third Prince Bal Gi, will take the throne.

His wife...

is the daughter of Jwa Ga Ryeo, the former head of the Jwa family,

who rebelled against the king and was killed by him.

That means...

if Bal Gi becomes the king...

The blade of vengeance against the late king will turn to our family.

None of us will survive.

But what's worse than that...

is Pae Eui, the crown prince who lost to the late king,

and was banished is coming back.

That's enough.

His body isn't even cold yet.

Do you have to say something like that?

I understand how you feel, Your Highness,

but we need to find a way to survive first.

As for the army, we have Wangdang.

They swore allegiance not only to the late king but also to you.

Since the king has passed away,

they'll follow the new king.

What do we do, then?

Is there really no way to save Her Highness?

Run away.

You will survive, then.

I'll prepare the soldiers to escort you safely.

Is there no other way?

When a man dies,

his younger brother takes his position and his wife.

That's how the nobles protect their power and property.

Levirate marriage is another way.

Are you saying...

we should make Her Highness marry the late king's brother?

Who?

Bal Gi, the Third Prince.

That's impossible. He's a savage.

No. The ministers would have no reason...

to oppose the levirate marriage.

We, the Woo family,

will be able to protect our status as the queen family as well.

But do you think the crown prince, the eldest son, will stay still?

He will definitely return...

and claim his right to the throne.

That's why she must marry the Third Prince.

Because...

he will be able to stop the crown prince.

The Third Prince...

has no reason to reject the marriage with Her Highness either.

He needs justification.

Everyone, get out.

Your Highness, please run away.

You know the rumors about the Third Prince.

Fortunately, the Prime Minister can prepare soldiers.

You can leave anytime.

I'll escort you, so...

What is it?

What are you hiding from me again?

Whenever you were about to get scolded by Father...

when you were little,

you would always make that face.

I was just...

worried about Your Highness.

This is the only way.

The ministers will definitely ask about the death of the king.

Someone will have to take responsibility.

We had the royal physician and the maids gather in a room.

Lock the royal physician in prison...

and arrest everyone who went to the king's chamber.

Nobody should know about this yet.

Move quietly.

This is the only way I can...

protect you.

You must...

protect yourself now.

I'll marry his brother.

- Your Highness. - Eul Pa So.

We cannot hide the king's death anymore.

You must meet the Third Prince tonight.

Her Highness does not need to visit him herself.

No.

We are talking about the death of the king.

He won't believe it unless it's from Her Highness.

You must return with the Third Prince...

before the Jega Conference takes place tomorrow.

The sun will set soon.

How can we send her outside the palace? It's dangerous.

What if she's attacked by bandits or animals?

There's someone who'll protect her.

He was trusted by His Majesty.

But still...

Please get it ready.

Which maid gave you the alcohol?

Tell me who it was.

It was her.

Drag her out.

Why are you doing this?

Why are you doing this?

What's going on?

Why are you doing this?

Wait. Why are you doing this?

Please tell me why.

Oh, gosh!

I'm not supposed to be here. Excuse me.

Wait. Hey!

Why am I here?

His Majesty has passed away.

Did you forget his order?

He must have told you to protect Her Highness with the sword...

if something happened to him.

Tonight, the queen...

will leave the palace to visit Bal Gi.

Her Highness intends to marry him.

It's to protect herself...

from His Majesty's enemies.

Protecting Her Highness is protecting the country.

Please protect her.

I need someone.

- Have a drink. - This is good.

Give me some more.

- Have a drink. - Have a drink.

- Yes. - Nice.

Fine. I'm betting more.

What?

- It isn't too late to die. - No way.

Not a chance.

Do you know how much I offered to the deity?

Come on, deity. Please.

Let me win for once, please.

Let me win.

I won. Darn it, I won!

- What is this? - I won. Oh, dear deity.

What's this doing here?

You jerk!

- Stupid swindler. - Come here!

Get that swindler.

Don't miss him.

Come here, you jerk!

Come back here!

Darn it.

Get out of my way!

- There he is! - Get him!

- Move. - You swindler.

Where do you think you're going?

Get him.

Come back here.

Get that swindler.

You darn swindler.

Darn it.

He's here.

- Get him. - The door!

- Where did he go? - Darn it.

Not so fast.

Oh, darn it.

What are you doing here?

- Get out! - Gosh.

Seriously.

What was that?

- Where did he go? - Where is he?

- He got away. - Find him!

- Find him. - You're coming with me.

What's with you?

- What do you want? - What are you doing?

- Hurry up and find him. - Come here.

That was close.

Oh, no.

What? Mu Gol?

You're still alive.

And your skills are still good.

What are you doing here?

Do you frequent this kind of place now?

I need a horseman to serve Her Highness.

To the Third Prince's palace, Hwaninsoo, tonight.

Why would I do it?

Darn it. Have you forgotten that you kicked me out?

I'm no longer a member of Wangdang. I won't do it.

Forget it.

How much will you pay me?

I need a lot of money.

- As much as you want. - Get moving.

Which way is it? Here?

How much should I ask for? Hurry up.

I heard you asked the blacksmith...

to repair the broken sword King Chu Mo left for King Yu Ri.

It's the holy sword...

that will connect the Go and Hae families together.

If His Majesty had it, he would've been able to unite all five tribes.

Although that's no longer possible.

Fly away.

I didn't expect you to choose levirate marriage.

A woman like me...

has to move like these chess pieces...

for her family.

If I cannot avoid it,

I'd rather take the path I chose.

The Third Prince is known for being as cruel as the crown prince.

It may be harder than dying.

Are you on my side?

I wrote my next move here.

You should think about yours.

I'll finish playing when I return.

Pack that too.

For once.

What should I do when I get paid?

Mu Gol, are you going to a battle or what?

What are all those weapons for?

What happens if the Third Prince does not accept it?

Her Majesty the queen is here.

You look familiar.

I am Daemodal Mu Gol of Wangdang.

- What are you doing? - I am Mo Chi.

Everyone will know about His Majesty's death by tomorrow morning.

You must return...

to the palace with the Third Prince before then.

Now our family's destiny lies with your sister.

Force her to sleep with the Third Prince...

if necessary.

No one shall know about this.

Don't let anyone leave the palace until the morning.

Close the gates!

The Hours of Rooster, 5 to 7 p.m.

I've locked the gates...

and placed Wangdang soldiers in and out of the palace.

Who would've known he would die in vain?

His Majesty would...

never give in to an injury like this.

Do you think it was the injury?

Pardon?

This is...

The chickens died after eating rice.

He was poisoned.

Prime Minister Eul, please get me out of here.

I don't know why I was dragged here.

Please help me.

His Majesty was poisoned to death.

It wasn't me.

Do you wish to live?

Yes.

Then find the culprit.

Tell me about my destiny.

Halt.

I waited to catch them as you ordered,

but I missed one.

I've checked them thoroughly, but they were all the same.

Do you think it was a trick?

Writing with vinegar.

What does it say?

The king is dead.

The queen wants to marry the Third Prince. An assassin is needed.

There seems to be a spy who is in touch...

with people outside the palace.

How outrageous.

Do you have anyone in mind?

I don't know yet. However,

if His Majesty's death becomes known,

someone will make a move soon.

Her Highness...

might be in serious danger.
