It's incredible to see this cat's
journey and tackle some of my most

cases to date.

The hair cats might be trying to kill
us. Oh my God, look, look, look, look,

look. I was not prepared for it. It was
like this huge one -tooth hunch for Sid.

Here's your new house, and by the way,
here's your new brother, and he is the

spawn of the devil.

Maybe I shouldn't be doing this anymore.

He's asking for help, and I'm ignoring
helping him.

It's probably a matter of days until we
get rid of Bowie. That puts them...

Pressure on. My mission continues to
prove there are no bad cats.

and this is my daughter, Daniella. And
we have two cats, Missy and Fluffy.

My mom adopted Missy about five years
ago, and I adopted Fluffy a year ago.

Missy, no.

Missy does not like having Fluffy living
in this house.

She bites and scratches. She rips hair
out of him.

She's drawn blood from him before.

She sits outside of my door because she
knows that Fluffy is in my room. She

just waits for any opportunity.

to get at Fluffy.

Honestly,

I think that Missy could kill Fluffy.

The only option that we have right now
is keeping them in separate rooms at

separate times, and we switch them every
four hours. Fluffy comes out, Missy's

in her room. Missy comes out, Fluffy's
in his room.

It consumes our day.

If someone doesn't do the switch right,
then it turns into an entire argument.

It's gotten to the point where my mom
and I literally argue about everything

when it comes to Missy and Fluffy.

Close your door so I can let Missy out
because it's been like five hours.

Then we have to get my husband involved
if he's the one here.

My day's off.

When I'm sitting here relaxing, I'll get
pecked. Which cat is out? I need to

change the cat.

Your turn, Fluff. Time to go in.

It's just becoming too much.

You four hours.

Missy has attacked me when I tried to
interfere with Fluffy. She just snaps on

anyone.

We try and pet her and she turns around
and bites me.

It's scary. It's really scary.

I'm just so terrified.

Every time that Missy does attack
Fluffy, it's hard for me to avoid

at my mom about it because at the end of
the day, Missy is really her cat where

I feel like she should have.

I've done something to stop it.

Fluffy's my baby. I love him. And if
anything were to ever happen to him, I

don't even like to think about it
because I don't want to live a life

him.

That's Missy. Well, hi, Missy.

Where's Fluffy? He might be under my
bed.

He showed up at our house as a stray in
the past year.

And then Missy's been in the house for
how long? We've had her for five years.

Since she was a baby. Yeah. You got her
as a baby. Yeah. So she was an only calf

for four years.

Mm -hmm. Okay, and what is the
situation?

Missy wants Fluffy dead.

Oh.

Full on, jumping on top of him,
attacking him. She had cut his nose at

point. Wow.

And Fluffy just curls up and does
nothing. The worst it had ever gotten

Fluffy was just chilling, laying around,
and she was ready to attack Fluffy.

And my mom would grab Missy. Big
mistake. Did she get pretty badly beat

Scratches up her arms, both hands.

Oh, my God.

Oh, that's a bad fight.

She was on antibiotics for 10 days and
shot. And a painkiller shot. That was

my... That took it to the next level
when that happened. That's ugly. We

like, just keep letting this happen, so
we just had to completely separate them

at all times. So we do shifts.

What do the shifts look like? Every four
hours, we split.

On the dot? Yeah, they're on the dot.

I'm like, oh.

It's very frustrating. We haven't been
able to do anything as a family unless

come back or somebody stays here. That's
really what's taking the toll right

now. Missy will be locked in my mom's
room.

or morning is about 2 or 3 in the

morning. I stay up every night to make
sure that the cats get enough time out.

You're going to switch cats at 2 o
'clock in the morning? You think the cat

cares where they are at 2 o 'clock in
the morning?

Let me wake you up here for a second.
No, they don't care.

Was Fluffy neutered by the time he got
here? He was.

Okay. How old was Missy when she got
spayed? She has not been spayed.

What? Why is your cat not spayed?

It's down on the list of expenses.

We absolutely love our vet and we trust
her. And if our cat was to go under

surgery, we wouldn't be with her.

But it's like $500.

Your cat is your family member. It's one
of your children.

Find a way to pay for it. Go to a
clinic.

We haven't gotten her fixed because it's
expensive.

And I'm afraid to get somebody.

I don't trust to do the job correctly.

Just like with humans and with animals,
going to surgery makes me very nervous.

This is one of the simplest, easiest,
quickest operations.

I think they need to hear that from you
to go to the clinic. I'm telling you,

any vet hospital.

day. It should be a fairly simple thing.

Daniela and Stacy are consumed with the
fear that the surgery is going to kill

Missy. And in the meantime, they're
ignoring the fact that if they don't do

Missy's going to kill Fluffy.

It's a must for so many reasons.

Every time your cat goes into heat, she
triples her chances of ovarian cancer.

And most importantly, her hormones.

can do right now is make a concrete or

reliable behavioral diagnosis when
everything that's happening right now is

physical.

Down the hallway to the left is fluffy.

She goes... So, Danielle, this is your
room? Yep, and she goes right to it.

Oh. She just will sit there and she will
wait until there's some...

she'll go at it. Missy is just parked

outside of Daniela's bedroom knowing
that Fluffy's in there and she's just

Now I want to see Fluffy. Fluffy's been
sequestered away all day. I want to see

Hello. Okay. Normally, in this kind of a
situation, I would bring the cats

together so I can gauge their behavior
around one another. But as long as Missy

has not been spayed, that is not on the
menu today.

Hello, Puffy.

Huh? Hi.

You want some food?

Come on, buddy.

Okay.

What's that?

That is probably Missy scratching at the
door trying to come out. That sound is

Missy? Trying to get out of the room.
When she knows that Fluffy's out here,

just goes out the door because she wants
out.

She means business. Now, just because I
can't make a clean diagnosis about Missy

because of her physical state doesn't
mean I can't give these guys homework. I

got plenty for them.

First, we are going to get Missy Spade.

Does Missy hate Fluffy? We have no idea.
We don't know. So appointment gets

made, she gets in, remembering that as
the hormones go away, we've still got

other issues, everything from seeking
mates to protecting her territory to

guarding to that sort of hypervigilance.
We're going to have to work that after

the hormones are in her system.

The next thing I want you guys to do is
feeding reintroduction exercise.

I want you to feed them on either side
of the door so there are no sight lines

and they can't see each other. First
couple of meals, four feet on either

of the door, eight feet total. And then
you gauge.

If at that meal they just eat, walk
away, next time a little six inches

And also, no feeding between meals.

What we're trying to rebuild here is a
sense of neutrality. You're not a good

thing or a bad thing, but every time I
smell you, I smell food. It's a good

place to start.

And we're reintroducing these guys as if
nothing bad ever happened. Next thing,

catification, the art of arranging for
cats. We're building for the future.

is obviously not going to happen
tomorrow.

But when these guys are out at the same
time, we're going to try to mitigate

places where there are dead ends.

And ambush zones.

I want to make sure that Fluffy and
Misty never have an excuse for fighting

that's based on ambushing or cornering.
The hardest part of this traffic flow

situation is going to be that hallway.

Because if these guys are always
competing for floor space...

That hallway is going to be a place
where all the fights happen. What I want

to think about is lanes of highway, and
then we have ramps that lead to those

different places. So they can go on
ramp, off ramp, different lanes of

no dead ends, no ambush zones.

Last thing, the whole four -hour
switcheroo thing, there's no reason for

all. Usually I am all about... rituals
and routines.

This time around, I'm going to say the
opposite. I want to see Fluffy sleeping

in your room. I would like to see Missy
sleeping in your room. We want them both

to own the space, separately at this
point, but equally.

I need Stacey and Danielle to spend some
more time bonding with each other's

cats and create a whole family out of
this and not this silly competition.

You guys all right with that?

I don't know. To break the rituals, it's
going to take the whole family to make

the changes because we have all gotten
into a habit of us doing it a certain

My name is April, and this is my
wonderful husband, Brett. We have a nine

-old son, Braylon, and his best friend,
our cat, Candy.

I love Candy more than anything.

She's my best friend. Braylon and Candy
are like an old married couple. They

cuddle together, they play together, but
they also fight.

At any given time, she just changes.

Scratch, bite. I think she's bipolar.

She attacks Braylon more than anybody in
the house.

It makes me sad when Candy bites me or
scratches me. Sometimes she'll just

attack me at a random time for no reason
at all. As a mom, it's very frustrating

to watch Candy.

bite or scratch Braylon, it makes me
feel helpless because we don't know when

she will do it. Not only is she
attacking and hurting Braylon, she's

tearing up our house.

Candy has completely destroyed all the
furniture in this house. Both sides of

the chair where you can actually see the
wood, all four dining room chairs.

I just had it. If Jackson can't help us,
Candy is out of here.

Hi, how you doing? Brett. Brett, good to

Good to meet you, man. Walking in here,
the problem is pretty bad. The house,

the walls, the furniture have been
shredded by candy. She has some

behaviors. She is completely
destructive.

Okay. She destroys all the furniture,
the walls, and the carpet. The other

is, one minute she loves you.

The next minute, she's attacking you.
The person she attacks the most is our

son, Braylon, who she's the closest to.

So we've got a double problem here. A
double problem. And, of course, the most

pressing one is you.

I see some marks on you, man. Are these
all her?

Yeah. She jumped on me, and then she bit
me right here, and then she scratched

me right there.

Wow. So she's actually leaving scars.

She literally marks all over his body,
yeah.

Has she made you bleed before?

Yes.

Does it happen a lot?

Yes.

What's a lot?

Once or twice a week.

Excuse me?

See, that's it for me. I don't know if
we should keep her. I think she needs to

go.

Braylon, you're getting beat up more
than anybody else. Why do you think so?

I don't know.

Cats don't randomly attack and make
little kids bleed.

Something's just not adding up here.

Candy seems a little scared right now.
It's probably because there's a stranger

in the house. It's time for me to go
over there and just take her temperature

little bit. You guys gave me a lot of
good stuff. Now, I want to hang with

Candy, so give me a second.

So I go to check up on Candy, and she's
pretty agitated.

Alright, so here's what we're going to

I'm going to be candy.

I'm not going to bite you and I'm not
going to scratch you. You know that

where you come running into the room and
you're telling your mom she just

scratched you?

Tell me what you guys would be doing. I
would just be

Sitting down laying there, and she would
be like someone like this right there.

All right, so I'm just going to lay down
here.

I would just rub her head or scratch her
neck.

If I'm going to sit here and pretend to
be a cat, you've got to be honest, too.

What are you doing also? Yeah, I'll do
like that.

We got that. And then sometimes I would
smack her tail.

Uh -huh.

Uh -huh.

Not hard, though. Whatever.

And then when she comes by, I just do
this.

Uh -huh.

When we're down here role -playing, it
ends with him pulling a tail. I need him

to learn more about cat energy, and that
means it's time to play.

Braylon, playing with Candy, hanging out
with her is totally cool, but I would

do that without your hands. Okay.

So I'm going to teach you about the way
that we play with cats.

When you start to play with her, don't
just give it to her.

Fast, slow, mix it up, up, down.

Allow her to catch it, but don't allow
her to keep it. If you're a cat...

You want that, right? You want her to
start doing that. You want to pretend

you're a fly or a bird. I present you
with your ground and air toy.

Make me proud.

Look, Braylon utilizing these hands
-free play techniques is essential in

getting him to deflate Candy's energy
properly and prevent him from getting

attacked. But now, I've got to see
what's going on with the home

Show me the major hot spots. I know
that. What else we got? Which is also on

that side, too, if you notice. Right, so
this chair is toast.

What else has gone? Okay, so the dining
room chair.

Wow. Yeah.

This is one of her other places.

Wow. Yeah.

Okay, so we got that wall. We got the
chair. We've got the dining room

furniture. We have one more important
one. Okay, let's take a look.

This is something she does whenever she
uses the litter.

Every single time.

Holy cow.

Holy cow.

It's like she's almost made another
window.

She's getting close. I mean.

Candy has actually dug into the plaster.

It's plaster. It's not like cardboard.

That's one of the most significant
examples of this kind of scratching I

I've ever seen. With all of Candy's
behaviors when it comes to scratching or

biting or doing anything, she brings it
to the nth degree because she's so pent

up. She's actually a fairly normal cat.

Okay. But she's still Candy. She's still
an individual.

Cats are energetic balloons.

All day long, that balloon is just
growing and growing and waiting for them

wake up and hunt something.

And if there's nothing to hunt when they
wake up, that's when you start paying

the price, right? So you have got a ball
of energy walking around the house with

no out.

As cat guardians, you have two choices.

You're either putting energy in or
taking it out at all times, 24 -7.

I'm going to leave it to you. This is
really your homework, your job, is that

you've got to drain that energy out.

So play therapy every night. Play
therapy for Braylon is about making sure

when he pulls out this feather toy, it's
going to bring that energy up and then

drain it through play.

And then when she's really tired, you
can call it a day and feed her dinner.

The next thing is the concept of the no
and yes.

You can always say no, as long as
there's a yes behind that no.

So I want to have a scratching post
right next to this chair. And I don't

to just have one, right? I want to have
multiples everywhere that she's

scratched. If you want your child to
stop painting on the wall, don't take

paints away from him. Give him an easel.
You want your cat to stop scratching

the couch.

You don't just tape up the couch. You
get them a scratching post. I really

if you guys dig into this stuff, it
might be a long first week, but the

a family who knew that their cat being
unspayed would help cause the problem,

but they were too scared to do it. So

did they help fix the problem by fixing
their cat?

We were playing for quite a long time.
She was a little suspicious, but she was

just acting like a cat.

traces of estrogen to be out of her

but I do notice a little bit more of a
grounded feeling from her. What I want

do, because then we can start digging
into all the specifics, I want to start

going through all of your video
homework.

So what we did is put up these shelves
so the cats can get away from each other

and have places to go. Wow, guys.

In different areas in the hallway.

Man, I think these guys did a great job
with catification.

And cleaned out this hallway. It used to
be just dead ends, and now we can get

around both on the floor and up in the
world.

Daniela did not make that midnight
shift.

Fluffy was actually out all night long.

That's great. And how do you feel about
having Missy in your room?

I just knew at this point that
something's got to change, and I just

you. It's just kind of been all of us
working together to kind of make them

our cats.

Yeah. First day, it was like here, and

because if he eats... Missy hasn't been

eating, though.

When I do it, Fluffy will chow down, but
Missy hasn't been eating. Well, that's

why. She just watches.

The family put the bowls too close to
the door during feeding time. These cats

are on top of each other. Luffy is so
food -motivated, he doesn't care.

Missy does.

So the exercise, by and large, hasn't
been the rousing success I hoped for

because they missed that really key
component.

We have to have those two eating at the
same time. It's crucial to the process,

so we've got to fix that.

That said, I want to do the feeding
exercise with the addition that we

the distance between the bowls. So the
goal here is that if I see the feeding

exercise going well, I'm going to open
the door.

Okay. Now it's time for me to present a
challenge line for these two cats. We're

going to put up a gate. Now they can see
each other, but they can't get to one

another. And we're also putting a
blanket over the gate so that we slowly

one cat to the other. And we'll see how
that goes.

I know what Missy can do.

Because I've been a victim of Missy
biting me, tearing me up.

Keep presenting it to him. Worst case
scenario right now, Missy just charges

that gate, and the two of them just

He doesn't care, and I really like that
a lot.

Missy being spayed, bringing down those
hormonal urges and aggression, and at

the same time, we're seeing that
Fluffy's confidence is growing.

Here's my new plan for the feeding
exercise.

First thing is we are going to change
the location of the feeding.

Instead of having our dividing line
being your bedroom, which is kind of

into a hot spot, we've got to stop that.
So I want you to change the location of

the gate into that doorway.

So now, back of the house, front of the
house, right? And that's our sight

swapping. I do want you to keep that
gate up.

for the feeding assignment. I think it's
a great tool.

If they can't focus on eating at all, no
matter how far back you put them, then

we have to block their sight line with
that blanket. But if they can do it,

let's have them do it. Because if I come
back here next time and we've got that

division and that program in place and
we're not having major fights, obviously

what I want to do is get these guys
together.

I feel like if we really stay on top of
it with the homework and get them more

used to each other with the feeding
exercises, I'm hoping and praying that

somehow when we put them together next
time that there will be no fighting.

a very energetic cat and a very

energetic child.

And that combination was a little
explosive. Hopefully, there's a little

order in this house. Actually, a lot of
order. If these guys haven't done their

homework, the evidence is going to be
pretty obvious.

family that's part of the work they've
done. But I want to make sure that it's

What I love looking at video homework is
the

abandon with which he plays with Raylan.
He's swinging a toy around, and she is

jumping with such incredible enthusiasm.

She's loving playing with Raylan, and
he's loving playing with her. That's

I wanted the whole time.

Okay. So when you're saying Braylon's
doing absolutely nothing.

No offense, buddy.

Braylon is never doing absolutely
nothing.

You saw what Braylon was doing as we
were talking, right? The tossing, the

spinning and stuff like that. So I'm
trying to get a beat on the energy in

room at that moment.

Was there lots of back and forth going
on? Was it a time where, you know, we

talk about those spikes in energy that
happen. When everybody comes home.

There you go. We know.

Everybody comes home.

Energy's high. And she's sitting there.
She's like that. The whole family had

just come in.

That puts that cat energy at a nine.

All it takes is this and she's going to
act out. Now, the thing that we do is

become proactive.

Right. We know that the energy in the
house.

Sends her to that place instead of going
straight to the computer, maybe.

Straight to her. Get that energy out.
Now we're good, you know?

All right, moving on.

Here is one scratcher.

Another scratcher for Candy.

Another scratcher in the closet.

The place is completely terrified.

And Candy has everything she could ask
for.

And look who's scratching.

Yeah, that's what we want to see.

We're just not setting Candy up for
failure anymore.

She needs to scratch. So instead of just
saying no and getting frustrated, there

are beautiful, scratchified yeses in all
of the spots that Candy has chosen to

scratch in the past. And now I would
feel secure that the inappropriate

aren't going to get scratched.

Right. She has not scratched the walls
or the furniture at this point. I feel

better about that.

Good. The other important thing to you
is that... Braylon doesn't bleed all the

time. So now, my hope is that your best
friend isn't spending half her time

beating you up. Is that fair to say at
this point?

That is very true.

Look, the family's doing great, but this
is all on Candy. I mean, the last time

I was here, she beat me up pretty good.
So I just want to see if I can make sure

she's okay.

Candy has been watching me, so I'm going
to grab a toy out of here, and...

Go hang with your cat for a minute,

Candy might be cautious. She might be a
little scared at first.

But her love of the hunt overrides
everything else. She sees a toy, and she

cannot help herself. She's got to play.

That's the kind of spark I love seeing
in a cat.

And I'm Brian. And our story is the
kitten trap.

So, tell me. Tell me how this happened.

So I told my daughter that I would get
her a kitten, but there were two cats at

the adoption center.

Yeah. I just moved into a new place with
my daughter, and we couldn't have more

than one animal. Right. So we have to
separate these two. And we brought Ozzy

home, but for days on end, Ozzy was
crying.

Callie kept saying, it's because he
misses his brother.

And so I called the shelter and they
said that his brother had been adopted

days after. I told Callie, I go, well,
you know, maybe one day we'll find him

again. You never know.

Years later, Kathleen and I met on a
dating site. We just instantly

He asked me to come back over here. And
all of a sudden, out of the corner of my

eye, I see this orange and white cat.

And I did a double take.

and thought that he had stolen my cat.

You did not, really? I really thought
this. The next morning, he came into my

house and saw Ozzy.

I was awestruck. This cat was identical
to my cat.

I said, get the adoption papers out.

And I remember that the adoption place
said that he had to have a brother.

Sure enough, they were identical.

Same birthday, everything.

It just all connected instantly.

Now, Brian, how did you wind up clearly
with the brother?

Well, my wife at the time was sick, and
so she wanted to make my daughter happy

and bring some warmth into the family
before she passed away. So she adopts

cat. This had to start playing in
somehow, like it was a sign of some

led us together.

She wanted us to be a family.

Having twins separated and then brought
back together like this, those odds are

astronomical. And whether you believe in
miracles or fate, the universe,

coincidence, whatever it is, one thing
you can't deny, these cats were the

piece of the puzzle to bring these two
humans together.

With our daughters meeting and coming
together with the cats, It was really

reassuring and confirming.

And becoming a family of four instead of
a family of two.

Complete fate.

Yeah. Like, we're home again. We're all
reunited.

I was really happy that Ozzy found
Butter and I found Ruby.

We're really happy together, and I think
that we're all really glad that we

found each other.
