choice but to rehome Ninja.

behaviorist by day.

I've met cats with all kinds of
problems.

but I've never met one I couldn't help.

In my career, I've worked with thousands
of cats one -on -one, analyzing their

behaviors and retraining them and their
guardians. When relationships are at an

end, you can't always focus on the cat's
needs, right? We all have needs in this

family. And cat guardians have reached
their emotional limit. This is the last

straw. It kills me. I'm their last hope.
I just love him so much, and I know

he's got a good side.

Cats have nine lives, but humans only
have one. Oh, my gosh!

Jimmy?

I'm on my way to go see Lola and her
cat, Jimmy.

Well, as a matter of fact, Lola has
flown all the way from her home in

to seek my help. Now, these guys have
become YouTube sensation.

But for all the wrong reasons, Jimmy is
aggressive. He's a fighter. He's

completely unpredictable.

And he's doing damage not only to Lola,
but to her daughter, Nisei, and her

grandchildren.

So I'm going to get over there right now
before even more damage is done.

My name's Lola. I'm from Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, and I'm the owner of Jimmy

Ow!

Ow! People know Jimmy because I posted a
video of him attacking me, and it went

viral. I decided to get rid of my lovely
cat.

I woke up with 700 friend requests. It
had a million views on all different

websites. I was actually shocked.

Jimmy came into my job. He was a street
cat.

And he comes from the worst part of
Milwaukee.

I was told people were whipping
basketballs at him and kicking him.

That's why I took him in.

Unprovoked. Every day, it's Jimmy
attacking.

And this is my daughter, Eunice.

We could just be sitting here, and he'll
just attack us out of nowhere.

I never know, like, oh.

I have two sons.

One is three, and one is five.

Oh!

I'm afraid of him like really, really
hurting them.

My daughter didn't want me to keep the
cat.

You're defending a horrible cat. No, no.
She chooses the cat over me and the

kids.

They told me that I can't see the kids
unless I get rid of the cat.

I'm not coming over anymore.

My kids got bite marks and scratch marks
and it's from your cat.

I haven't seen them since.

The stakes here are really high for me
and Jimmy. I flew in from Milwaukee, so

Jackson can meet Jimmy and give him the
help that he needs.

Normally, I like to meet cats at their
own homes, but because of the urgency of

the situation with the kids getting
attacked, Lola flew out here to L .A. to

meet me with Jimmy in a hotel.

Hey. Hi.

How are you? I'm Jackson.

I'm Lola. Lola, good to meet you.

Okay.

Well, you traveled a long ways from
Milwaukee?

Yeah. To get here?

I've seen the video of you and your cat.
I am sure the whole world has seen the

video of your cat, Jimmy.

Yes. Such a good boy.

Look at that.

And he's just hanging, man.

Yeah. When did you make the video?

I gave him a month, and I was like, I'm
not going to put up with that. I didn't

get this cat to scratch me up like this.
Oh, my God. It's all over you.

Yeah. These aren't scratches.

These are bites?

These are bites.

Not that they were scratches, but
actually they're Jimmy's teeth hitting

and dragging across it. My grandkids
were playing on the floor.

He thought them from a distance and ran
up and bit him on the neck.

And your daughter, how is she responding
to all this?

She said, I can't see the kids unless
Jimmy's gone.

Wow. What is it about him that makes you
still committed to him in some way?

I don't want to give up on him.

And after seeing the video myself, I
decided to get rid of my lovely cat. I

myself give up, and that's something
that I usually never do. Nobody gave up

me 10 years ago, and I was just like
him.

You know, I was out of control.

I was an alcoholic and a recovering drug
addict, and I've been clean for 19

years. Amazing.

Somebody gave me a chance, and I want to
give him the chance that I got.

Okay.

You're getting me all emotional because
you don't see people do this, you know?

I mean, this cat wouldn't be alive
without you. Lola has had a tough life,

she turned that life around, and now
she's looking at this troubled cat and

bringing the same approach to it. It's
my kind of person.

Ah, there's our crazy, possessed...

Demon cat.

What I wanted to prove to Lola was that
Jimmy could expend the kind of energy he

was putting out on her arm on something
constructive.

So I brought out some toys. I'm trying
to get him to a place where his body

starts to take over. But what I want to
see is once he's activated, what

happens. Right now he's still a little
neither here nor there.

I'm going to pull out another toy here.

Have you ever played with one of these
before?

He looks like he's never seen it before.

I'm absolutely shocked by Jimmy's lack
of attention span.

Or do you like one of these guys?

What is that?

Now, on the video, Jimmy was just going
after Lola nonstop. I mean, he would not

take no for an answer. Let's do
something.

That wasn't happening today. Are you
really going to do that? I mean, the

basically falling asleep while I'm
running around the room trying to play

him. Are you really going to do that?

Oh, my God, you're kicking my ass.

I had to see the behavior that I saw in
the video. So instead of trying to play

it out of him, I'm going to try to push
it out of him. Get down to his level.

Okay. And then I just want you to try to
get him to go for your arm. The way

that I could think of doing it was to
get Lola into the mix. Because I noticed

in her viral video that after Jimmy
would bite her, she would sort of push

back, and that was sort of a game for
him.

Now present your arm to him.

I had her put a sweatshirt over her arm
so as not to hurt her too much. Now,

what happens when you can take your arm
away and put it at your side?

You know what's coming, don't you?

Now, see? He is over the top at the
moment.

Activated. When you have a chance, take
your hand completely away.

Now, see?

What this exercise showed me was that
Jimmy can focus on things. Oh, Jimmy!

He's just focused on the wrong thing,
and that's Lola's body part.

Ready for some homework, Lola? Oh, yeah.

This is a tough one. There's only so
much that I can learn when it's not your

environment. So number one, we have to
do detective work based on your home. I

need to know if there are any components
of your place that may be triggering

the behavior. For example, are there
other cats outside or are there loud

noises? So what I want you to do is for
me, I need you to journal a day in the

life. Normally, I like to see a cat's
environment firsthand, but since Lola

to see me, she's going to have to do the
detective work. I'm going to get a

glimpse into Jimmy's world that I just
didn't get today.

Now, number two, you are the biggest toy
to him that there is. So it's really

important that we just take your hands
out of the equation.

Jimmy still has adolescent behavior
written all over him. He's a teenager.

Jimmy is overstimulated, overactivated,
and he's got to get used to attacking

toys, not people.

Now, finally, the last piece of homework
for you. The next time we meet up, if

there's any way possible to get your
daughter here, you know, the loss of her

daughter and the loss of her
grandchildren is much worse than any

could ever inflict on her. And I want to
be able to help rebuild that. All

right. I'm going to take off. Okay. I
flew all the way out here from Milwaukee

to California, and I really hope this
works because this is my last resort.

And after this, there's nothing. And I
don't know what the future holds.

So I'm here for my second visit with
Lola and her cat, Jimmy. Jimmy is the

infamous YouTube sensation where he just
beat up Lola. Now, Jimmy is a very

tough case that needed immediate
attention.

So even though I wasn't able to visit
them in Milwaukee, Lola flew back with

Jimmy to L .A. from Wisconsin just to
meet with me. Shows a lot of dedication.

Come on. So I got a chance to look at
Lola's video homework. I saw Lola

committing the cardinal sin, and that is
playing with her hands as if they were

toys. Lola also did some great detective
work on her video homework. He is

definitely reacting to noises he hears.

Stop it. Now hopefully we've gotten to a
point where the old Jimmy is starting

to be replaced with the new Jimmy.
Because her own daughter will not bring

grandchildren over because of this cat.

Who knows what I'm walking into today.

Any attacks since the last time I was
here?

I only got attacked three times, which
before it was constant.

So that's a start. Now, in your video
homework, I saw you doing something that

know I told you not to, which was
playing with your hands.

Take your hands out of the equation.

I found that noise stimulates Jimmy.
They get him all riled up, and then

I heard so many things, like the TVs and
the fish tank makes a loud noise. Of

course. What were you able to do to sort
of bring the sound down?

I would put the closed captioning on the
bottom. And do you notice anything

about... He's sleeping right next to me.

Seriously? He never does that.

That's so cool.

Cats have incredibly sensitive hearing.
So if the house is that loud and you've

got a cat prone to overstimulation like
Jimmy, it's a bad recipe.

On top of that, I wonder if the noise
from Lola's grandkids is also triggering

Jimmy's attacks.

The last time we got together, I asked
if your daughter, Neesake, should come

and meet with me. Is that still going to
happen? Yeah, she's coming today. But

I'm a little nervous that Jimmy might
attack.

And what happens if that does happen?

I don't know. She might write him off
and write me off.

You got to think about this. It's been
six months since the last time that Lola

saw her daughter, and it wasn't on
really great terms because of Jimmy.

So her daughter's coming here today.
That puts the stakes up a little bit

How? All right. So talk to me about your
breaking point when it came to Jimmy.

At first it was me, and then it was my
kids when he started attacking my kids.

That was too much.

Do you feel like, to a certain degree,
your mom chose Jimmy over the kids?

have a little bit of sympathy for Nise.

Obviously, she's been attacked before.
Her children have been attacked.

And she doesn't understand Jimmy any
better than Lola did just a few weeks

So it's important for me to educate
Nise. And the only way to do that is to

her in the fire a little bit.

When he comes walking out here, what do

you assume is going to happen?

He's going to attack me. The first thing
I wanted to do with Nisei and Jimmy was

just to show her that energy that he has
demonstrated towards her in a menacing

way, let out on a toy.

I don't think that he's an attack cat.
It's play aggression.

It's overstimulation. It's not with mean
intent.

So now that I've got him really into
playing, I want you to do something for

him on the top of the head for me.

when he's got a toy? He was working on a

feather. He was chewing his prey.

He doesn't care about the hand. The hand
has no value to it other than it feels

good. Nise saw this, and that was a
major breakthrough.

Now, I know it was a short.

that needs to be done, and Lola is the

key to getting Jimmy to behave.

Now, the first thing I want to take care
of, Jimmy is activated by loud noises,

so I'd like you to get a white noise
machine, and you put it somewhere where

tends to just get a little too
activated.

The next thing I want you to do, he
loves to reach for toys, so I have a

for you. How cool is this?

So this is just a take on a kid's
mobile.

Hopefully you get the message now that
you cannot play with your hands anymore.

Lola and her cat, Jimmy. I got to see

their video homework, and I saw some
really amazing things. I saw Jimmy

to the sound machine. He was actually
purring. It's crazy because I maybe

him purr like twice before.

Cats purr can mean contentment and
pleasure, so this is great.

But what I didn't see is Lola's
daughter, Nise, interacting with Jimmy

And that was a major homework assignment
because if Nise can't come to trust

Jimmy, then this will be one family that
will continue to stay apart.

dealing with a lot of fear on Nise's

like he really did get better.

I am surprised and happy, which, I mean,
no one's going to be more happy than

together in the same room. I think it

important for Nisei to see the new

Now, this is some of the worst cat -on
-cat aggression I have ever seen in my

entire career, with Ninja getting beat
up by Harold at every turn. Now, Pat

believes that if life is better for
Ninja someplace else, then so be it. But

that's going to break Mike's heart. So
I'm going to head over there right now,

because this is truly a family in
crisis.

And I'm Pat. Pat and I met 16 years ago
in a heavy metal chat room.

Ever since then, we've been together.

We have three cats.

Ninja, the baby. Tim, who is peeing all
over my house. And Harold, who is

aggressive towards Ninja.

Harold is so focused when he's chasing
Ninja. He's not coming off her as a

target ever.

There was blood, there was urine, there
was feces.

There's nails here and nails here from
them fighting.

I definitely fear for Ninja's life
around Harold.

We keep Ninja separated from Harold. We
installed a door between the downstairs

level and the upstairs level so the cats
just can't interact.

cats. Before all the fighting started,
everything was fine, so we never thought

we would be sitting here today.

Then Ninja showed up six months later,
and we ended up adopting her, too. Okay.

So everything was fine. At some point
years later, Mike and I went on

and Kumar got out the window.

And he was outside the whole time while
we were gone. It was after that point,

Harold started chasing and attacking
Kumar.

Cats use all of their senses to identify
friend or foe, scent being a big one.

So if Kumar came back smelling
different, Harold may not have

then started attacking him. Things got
so bad, and there was no other choice

to rehome Kumar.

So Harold and Tim are thick as thieves.
These guys are together all the time.

I could never separate the two of them.
I remember the day we had to say goodbye

to Kamara. I miss him, and it was tough.

Yeah.

Now going through it again with Ninja,
Harold is relentlessly chasing her.

It got to the point now that Ninja's so
afraid she won't play. She doesn't like

to eat.

How is Timmy with Ninja?

Tim had no problem with Ninja.

Okay. The other problem we have is with
Tim. He is spraying all over the house.

Did Timmy's peeing happen around the
same time?

Uh, yes.

So the whole house has crumbled from
normalcy, and you have no idea why.

No. We've tried it.

everything and anything to get this
situation resolved.

I even investigated the house to see if
there was some kind of paranormal

activity here.

Wait, hold on. So you go ghost hunting?
I do. I do. Yeah.

So I try to be careful on investigations
and not have anything come home with

me. But there's something out there for
sure. We actually investigated this

house. and although there was some
activity, it wasn't really conclusive.

We're going back. No, I'm serious,
because I want to rule out all

here. Have you ever seen your cat just
staring at a wall before, and you think

they see something that you don't see?
Probably true.

Cats are so energetically tuned in, it's
not even funny. So when you talk about

paranormal activity in a home and how it
affects cats, I'm game. I am totally on

board with that. At the end of the day,
if we can't fix this, then what happens?

So Harold and Tim are brothers and
they've been inseparable from the time

were young. So if anybody had to go,
like it would have to be Ninja.

Any animal we have is a family member
and the hardest thing to do is to, you

know, say goodbye.

It's so important at this point to try
to get into the mind of Harold to find

out what makes him so ill at ease that
he's got to turn on other cats who he

no problem with at all. Well, who's
this?

That is Harold.

Well, hello, Harold. So Harold is our
cat from hell. He is. Down here, for the

most part, it's the boys.

Right. Right now, yeah.

Ninja gets down here how often? She gets
down here about twice a week.

Where's Timmy at?

I think Tim is either behind the couch
or on the stairs.

Is this a popular hiding space?

I'd say yeah.

Hi, baby boy.

Timmy's scared.

Yeah. Timmy sitting behind the couch
tells me that this is not the most

confident cat in the world, but we
already knew that. He's walking around

house peeing when he never has before.
Do you have litter boxes down here?

There's one right there. Oh, good.
There's also one in the bathroom. How

total do we have? We have five litter
boxes in the house.

These guys have five litter boxes. They
took my formula. They even added one,

which would be fine if all of the boxes
didn't have lids on them. Some cats like

Timmy may not like to pee in a covered
box, and for cats like Ninja, it can be

trap. Hello, my friend. Can I say hi to
you? Now that Harold is relaxed, Timmy

is finally out to greet us. I'm working
on a theory right now, and that is that

as goes Harold, so goes Timmy. Even
though three minutes ago he was behind

couch, the reason why Timmy is okay
coming out now is because he gets his

through this guy. If Harold is out of
balance... then you've got Timmy marking

all over the house. It is cause and
effect.

And I am really firm in believing that
when we figure out why this boy is out

balance, Timmy will follow suit.

Okay. Now, here's what I want to do. It
would help me a lot to be able to see

all three together.

So, Mike, can you bring Ninja down for
me? I've got to get Harold and Ninja and

Timmy in the same room at the same time
and see what the dynamics tell me.

All right.

So here she comes.

As soon as Ninja was on the floor,
Harold went to full alert. It was bad.

Oh, boy.

Wow, he's got her.

I'll go behind the couch.

She's in the couch.

So that's Harold making that noise?
That's Harold.

He's not warning her.

No. He is warning you that there's an
intruder in the house.

A fight can break out inside a piece of
furniture. You know how bad that is?

She just went into the dining room.

Ninja darts under the table, and really
quickly, Harold cuts off all escape

routes and just waits for her. Pretty
scary.

She's trapped.

He's trying to make her run now.

I mean, the thing is, she knows well
enough now not to budge. She takes a

enough. Mike, could you go grab her and

her back to safety?

I've seen plenty. I'm terrified.

I mean, Harold picks one look at Ninja
and he is on her. I mean, he is driven.

And that tells me that this could be a
case of redirected aggression. What I'm

saying is something happened to spook
Harold while he was sitting there with

Ninja. And in that moment, he goes fight
or flight. He can't tell friend from

foe. And it's game on. Now, I don't know
what it is that scared Harold in the

first place. Could have been another cat
outside the window. For all I know, it

could be a ghost inside the house.

You guys ready for some homework?

First thing, let's start talking about
food. I want you guys to reintroduce the

cat during mealtime using a screen door
and a sight blocker. I want to go back

to a reintroduction technique using the
screen door between the kitchen and the

rest of the house and a sight blocker so
that we're going to raise that curtain

really slowly over time.

And I'm just hoping that Harold's going
to start associating Ninja with good

things, like food.

Next thing, you've got to find a way to
just make sure that the inside of this

couch is not accessible to her. Right.
At all. And I also want you guys to do

site swapping. You just can't have Ninja
upstairs five days out of seven and

think that she's going to gain
confidence.

We have to do it consistently every day.
Everybody owns different parts of this

house, and equally, just not at the same
time. Next thing, start rethinking your

litter box arrangement. Take the top off
them.

go into a litter box thinking she's

All right, I'm here for my second visit
with Pat and Mike and their cats, Ninja,

Harold, and Timmy. Last time I was here,
I was seeing cat -on -cat aggression

unlike any I've seen before.

And their cat Timmy was peeing all over
the place. Now, I got a chance to look

at their video homework, and I saw these
guys closing up the back of that couch,

and not a moment too soon, the last time
I was here, a fight took place back

there. I also saw their feeding
exercise. Now, this is the key to this

thing. Also, I came back to join Pat,
who is a ghost hunter, to rule out any

paranormal activity that could be
affecting the cat's behavior.

Hey, anything's possible. It's possible
that Harold thought something paranormal

when he was with Ninja, and is now
redirecting aggression. and our dose

went a little something like this. Watch
your step, Jack. It's really steep.

This is, like, not where I want to be.

If there's someone down here, can you
let us know by making a loud sound in

room? Oh, God.

What the hell?

Yeah, I told you. You didn't hear that?

Now, that was the scariest homework that
I have ever participated in, but at

least we can say there are no ghosts.

Okay. Well, let's start with Timmy. I
saw that you've been taking the lids off

the boxes, and what's the result?

That's been a great success.

Great. Since my last visit, how many
times has Timmy peed inappropriately?

Twice. Good.

Listen, we measure our success around
here in millimeters.

Now, taking the lids off the box clearly
made them more appealing to Timmy. But

until the tension is resolved in this
house, we are not going to get to the

of the problem. Now, I also saw on your
video homework that the feeding exercise

has been happening. So how's that been
going? We got to the point that they

both eating, both not distracted at all.

And then we lifted the sight blocker and
then it all went to hell.

concept of rehoming Ninja?

I mean, we've obviously tried so much,
and to come away like...

failing her.

Maybe it's just too late to fix, and had
we done it sooner, maybe it would have

been all right.

I feel defeated.

I just hope we can work through this and
fix it. I don't know.

whole puzzle is Ninja's confidence, not

Harold's aggression, so it was really
important that I see this feeding

exercise.

Timmy in with Ninja just to see if she

Good. Right now, what I'm looking for is
to see if Tim just brings a little bit

of calming to the situation here. You

In the midst of an exercise that was
going completely wrong, things began to

turn around.

Once Timmy joined us, Ninja's energy
shifted. She relaxed, and then something

really crazy happened.

Timmy jumps up on the kitchen counter,
looking out over the sight blocker at

Harold. Then Ninja jumps up there. Now
we've got the two of them sitting side

side, looking at Harold. He just picked
his head up and looked at them.

And then just went right back to eating.
He didn't even acknowledge that. He

didn't acknowledge it. That is that sort
of breakthrough moment that I needed.

The reason why Harold isn't charging at
Ninja is because we are putting Timmy in

a different position. We're actually
sort of.

Fourth thing, an alliance here. Timmy is
going to be our social bridge.

Now, even though Ninja didn't end up
eating during the exercise, she still

showed great signs of progress.

It's so crucial right now that Mike and
Pat continue working on building up

Ninja's mojo because I'm telling you,
man, we are really close to success.

Ready for some homework? Sure. Always.

First thing, when Ninja is on the
stairs, I want her to feel that she's

comforted no matter what stairs she's
on. You coax her, comfort, comfort,

comfort, then get into the challenge
again and start working her down those

stairs. I want Mike and Pat to dare her
to come down a stair. If they challenge

their cat and she accepts it, they win.

Now, feeding time. I'd like Timmy and
Ninja on one side of the door, Harold on

the other.

Timmy should be an ally of Ninja. Back
up those dishes, start it again, and see

if Ninja starts demonstrating a little
bit of confidence that she's gaining off

of Timmy, who is our new social bridge.

So for your last bit of homework, I want
you to siteswap Ninja and Timmy

together. I don't want Harold around,
obviously.

When these things start happening on a
regular basis, we have our chance for a

breakthrough here. Okay. All right?

I think teaming Ninja and Timmy up
together is a really good idea. I really

that he can be that bridge for the two
of them. But if the problems aren't

resolved by Jackson's last visit, we're
going to have to rehome Ninja.

I don't want to have to put another cat
through that, and I certainly don't want

to have to go through that again either.

I'm here for my final visit with Pat and
Mike and their cats, Ninja, Timmy and

Harold. The last time I was here, Ninja
was showing an extreme lack of

confidence and Timmy was still peeing.
So I got a chance to watch the video

homework and I saw them working Ninja
down the stairs.

Come on.

And I hope that they've gotten her all
the way down. I also saw the feeding

exercise. It's showing a lot of promise.
But I'm hoping that as that sight

blocker goes up, Harold doesn't charge
the gate.

Now, walking in here today, I don't want
to see any peeing, any violence at all,

because the stakes here are high. Mike
and Pat have already had to rehome one

the cats in this home. How are you? Good
to see you. So if they don't see some

real change here, they are going to
rehome Ninja. Nobody wants that.

So, guys, tell me, since the last time I
was here, has there been any fights,

violence, anything?

None. That's great news. Yeah.

In the last round of homework, the thing
that helped us the most was luring

Ninja down the stairs instead of
carrying her. I really think that built

of confidence in her. So now I think
Harold sees Ninja as someone who belongs

the house. Now, has Timmy peed since the
last time I was here?

No, he hasn't.

Yeah.

My suspicion was that Timmy was peeing
all over the house because he sensed

imbalance in the relationship between
Ninja and Harold. This just confirms

belief. Taking the lids off the litter
boxes was the first step. Restoring

between Harold and Ninja was the final
step.

Now, how's the feeding exercise been
going for you? Were you able to feed

without the sight blocker?

No. Okay.

Has there been any incidents of him
charging the screen door or anything
