Even all my dishes.

I'm in shock. I'm waking up and I've got
pee on my head.

I really thought Debbie really was
overreacting to a couple of urinations

and there. You're even questioning if
he's peeing on me. Yes.

That's not good for me. Our relationship
has been affected. I thought about

leaving a couple of times.

If this gets worse, we won't last.

If it comes down to rehoming him. I
don't want to rehome anybody.

That's what we'll have to do.

I'm a musician by night and a cat
behaviorist by day.

I've met cats with all kinds of
problems.

But I've never met one I couldn't help.

In my career, I've worked with thousands
of cats, one -on -one, analyzing their

behaviors and retraining them and their
guardians.

When relationships are at an end, you
can't always focus on the cat's needs,

right? We all have needs in this family.
And cat guardians have reached their

emotional limits. This is the last
straw. Killed me. I'm their last hope.

I just love him so much, and I know he's
got a good side.

Cats have nine lives, but humans only
have one.

It's a long, long way to go see Chrissy
and Jason and Chrissy's cat, Frankie.

Frankie hates everybody, but he
especially hates Jason.

Now, these guys want to take their
relationship to the next level. Jason

imagine that happening as long as
Frankie's in the picture. Now, my job is

keep Frankie in the picture.

I'm Chrissy. And I'm Jason. And we've
been together about four and a half

And I have a crazy cat named Frankie,
but he's my baby and I love him. He's

awful.

I've had Frankie for about six years.
I've had him ever since he was just a

weeks old. There was a stray cat that
had kittens, and I fell in love with the

black and white one. He's always been
kind of a troublemaker.

Oh, he's a nightmare.

I'm pretty much the only one that he'd
like. The cat doesn't like anyone else.

I'm about 6 '1", about 240 pounds, and
I'm frightened to go around this cat.

He bites, he scratches.

Frankie attacked my foot one time, and
my foot got ripped apart pretty bad.

He wakes me up 20 to 30 times throughout
the night. He claws at my head over and

over and over again.

It's been a living hell. One time she's
actually slept in her car in the garage

just to get away from him.

It's put a wedge between us. I don't
spend the night ever because I know he's

going to wake me up all night.

We can't move in together.

He's my baby, and I can't imagine living
without him. We can't live together

because of the cat.

Something's got to give.

It's me or the cat.

Hi. Hey. I'm Jackson. How are you?
Chrissy. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet

So, I know the basics. Okay. I know that
we've got an aggressive cat on our

hands. Yeah. My cat's name is Frankie,
and he pretty much attacks anybody that

comes into my place.

Jason has to put on the oven mitt just
to touch him. I just had a look on

Jason's face. I just learned to stay
away.

What's the worst damage he's ever done
to a person? I took him to get his nails

trimmed, and he bit the groomer so bad.

Blood was just gushing out everywhere.

I was freaking out, and I'm pretty
traumatized from it.

Chrissy tells me that she's actually
traumatized because Frankie attacked

someone. That tells me that she doesn't
trust Frankie, and that is something

we're going to have to work on.

He wakes me up throughout the night, 10
to 15 times a night.

10 to 15 times a night? Yeah, it's
really bad.

To the point where I won't stay over.

We've been together four and a half
years.

Seriously, you won't even stay over here
because you can't sleep? No.

She's actually slept in her car a couple
of times to get away from him.

I know.

It's crazy.

When I hear that someone is sleeping in
their car so as not to be woken up 20

times from their cat, that tells me the
cat's running the show.

What happens if I fail? I don't see any
other alternative but to find another

home for him.

No, I'm not going to just throw him on
the street or take him to a shelter

he could get killed. So I'm going to
keep him.

I feel like it's put a hold on our
relationship in a lot of ways. I think

probably would have already been
engaged.

and this is kind of holding us back.

Wow. It just makes me sad to think that
my cat is preventing me from moving

forward in my relationship.

Yeah.

I've had him for so long, and I'm so
attached. I can't pick. I don't think

fair for you to put me in that position.
You know, I think it's a little weird

that you would choose a pet over a very
important relationship. I'm not saying

that I'm going to choose him.

This is where I feed him. Okay. Right
here. So he gets... This spot, he gets

very territorial. When people come in,
he doesn't know. That's some bad traffic

planning right there. So I walk in the
house. Hey, guys, how are you? Oh, cute.

Keep your distance because he's
unpredictable.

What's the feeding schedule with him?
It's hard because there's never a set

eating schedule. So he has no sense of
when food is actually supposed to

You can see how, in terms of food, he
already has an insecurity about it, but

this may actually.

Feed into it. You take a cat like
Frankie, who's clearly territorial, and

you feed him in a place where there's
constant foot traffic happening, you're

going to make them more insecure.

And add to that his lack of schedule,
the insecurities around that, you've got

recipe for disaster.

Okay. Oh, there's our boy Frankie.

He's a beast, man.

That's a lot of cat.

The thing that makes it difficult right
now is that he's trapped himself.

Now I'm starting to see the tail go.

The tail gives warning that he's not all
that psyched with what's going on. You

see that he's staring at my hand? Yeah.

This is, again, part of pushing the
challenge line.

Look. The reason why I really need to
push this cat's challenge line right now

is all of the aggression that I'm
hearing about seems like overowning

So I wanted to make sure that I had him
in his home base and I started invading

it. Then we could see truly how
defensive he was.

Ow.

Now.

Oh, ow.

Ow. Okay.

Ow.

Ow. Okay, you're stuck.

Every time he swipes at me, he gets
stuck in my skin.

Okay, my hand's still shaking.

What's happening?

I'm just scared for you.

Don't be scared for me. I've seen him
hurt so many people, and it just

me. I do this every day.

And normally I would tell you to leave
the room, but it's just as important for

me to see what's going on with you. And
I think that Frankie's feeding off your

nervous energy. I turn around and
Chrissy is getting very emotional. She's

freaking out.

She couldn't handle seeing me get beat
up by her cat.

When she starts crying, when the cat is
striking out at me, when Jason is just

standing there helpless, now we have the
picture.

Frankie's feeding off their energy,
plain and simple.

Would you like to smell something that
belongs to me? I call this the cat

handshake. I want to introduce myself in
a more peaceful way. My scent is all

over these glasses, so I'm just going to
let him sniff it.

I think that if we can show him the
world is a safe place, then all is good.

When I was talking to Chrissy and Jason
in a calm way, everyone calmed down. I

used that as an opportunity to very
matter -of -factly start to pet Frankie,

just as I suspected at that point, no
attack.

Ready to get some homework?

Let's start with one thing, and that's
feeding.

It's three meals, and Jason, I want you
to do the feeding. It's important that

Jason do the feeding because I want
Frankie to see him as a positive force

his life by associating him with food.
The next thing that I'd like you to do

is... take his feeding station, and move
it to a place that's completely out of

foot traffic. The goal is, over time, to
defuse this hot spot, which should be

able to decrease the attack of the door.

So the next thing I'm going to have you
do is this.

This is a walking vest.

Okay? Now here's the thing. I already
see the fear in you.

You are going to get your boy in this
thing. That's your homework.

You don't have to worry about taking him
for a walk. None of that.

Frankie is a large cat, and he could use
a little exercise.

So let's get him into a harness and get
used to wearing it. We can work on the

actual walking later.

And another thing that I want to sink
into as we go along is your fear of

getting hurt.

Your reaction to what happened to me in
there was pretty extreme. And that's

something else we want to break down.

aggressive cat.

I saw that Chrissy did change the

location of the feeding station, which
is really crucial because that brunt

was a huge hot spot.

The only thing I really didn't like was
Chrissy's energy when they were trying

to get that harness off of Frankie. Ah,
I'm scared.

She was panicked. I've got to see a
little bit more balance in order for us

clear these last couple of hurdles.

Otherwise, we're behind the eight ball

Tell me right off the bat, since the
last time I was here, have there been

it's been a big improvement.

Chrissy's been sleeping through the
night, and the new feeding schedules

Jason feel a lot more comfortable with
Frankie. But what I saw in the video

homework was that Chrissy is still
feeding Frankie's aggression with her

negative energy.

I mean, we totally want to say to him,
like, this is not the hidey hole. Here

Chrissy's nervous energy around Frankie

especially obvious when she's trying to

watch her try to put that harness on and
walk her through how to approach her

own cat with confidence.

All you're doing is getting him around,

fears, work through the traumas that she

suffered watching Frankie hurt other

And Frankie has to go along with the

through something that I call the fire
drill. Now just like with the harness in

the living room, do an action that may
or may not be dangerous, but plotting

things out five steps ahead and
repeating them over and over makes you

something with confidence and without
any emotion.

Second step is catifying the place. So I
want you to get another cat tree like

that one, beds and scratchers, and put
them outside the major lanes of traffic

so he has places he can own.

And with everything you're doing with
the harness, I feel absolutely secure

you should be able to start getting him
out to go for short walks.

you guys staying over here. Jason, that

should help you establish a better
relationship with Frankie. Okay.

It started when my mom had a heart

doing was like ignoring the problem or

not seeing it. Neither one of us use the
master bedroom anymore because if I

sleep in there and I lock him out, it is

And this has been going on now for... At
least seven months.

Emotionally, you seem much more at a

he's going back and forth and back and

looks like a nervous wreck of a cat.

Well, there's Baxter. Hello, my little

And, wow, he is the opposite of Blinky.
Baxter knows that Blinky is patrolling.

He doesn't want any part of it. What
goes on outside this window?

There's neighbor cats and there's stray
cats.

I feed them right out there.

I move the food to in front of the
garage where you can't see it. You know,

you're watching me look at you right
now, right? You can't even look me in

eye right now, can you, Debbie? You have
a feeding station basically right over

there. That's one of them.

Where are the other ones?

The other one is in the backyard. Where?

Outside that second door.

I'm sorry.

The cat who feels like their territory
is being completely invaded.

pees around the perimeter and patrols
the perimeter. This is war.

Debbie's trying to do something good for
the community cats, but instead she has

created a circle of feral cats right
outside her home. And now we're seeing

retaliation. So this is the cat
sanctuary.

That is Coco, my senior. He's 16 years
old.

And here's Clyde. There's Clyde. These
guys are the indoor -outdoor cats.

They come and go as they want. And I
have a cut through here.

Yeah.

A cut through on the screen.

I'm not a big fan of letting cats go
indoor, outdoor at will. It's just too

dangerous out here. If they can come and
go as they want.

Yes. You know where I'm going with that,
right? Other cats have come and gone.

I've even had raccoons in here.

You know it's time to make a change in
your life. When you wake up and there's

like a 12 -pound raccoon rustling next
to your bed. Do these cats get to go in

the rest of the house with Blinky and
Baxter?

No. They want to go out, but I don't
want the others going out, especially

Blink, because he's going to get himself
killed.

Not only is Debbie creating two separate
worlds between the cats in the house,

but she is making the problem worse when
she was trying to just slap a bandage

on the problem.

All right, so here's what I want to do,
because we know Blinky doesn't get in

here at all. Well, I figured I needed to
take the black light to the rest of the

house. It was going to be painful for
both Debbie and Brian, but we've got to

I mean, there is not a dry spot now.

As the height of the urine got taller, I

And I can see I have a lot of work to
do.

I was like going, wow.

I told you. Because I didn't think it
was that bad.

The first thing I'm going to do.

is give you a present. My blacklight.
I'm going to give you a CO2 cleaner that

really like using. Go around, clean up
everything.

Then, every night, you're going to do a
sweep of the house.

And wherever you see a new spot, clean
it and move on. Okay.

When Debbie left to take care of her
sick mom, Blinky became insecure.

And now I think he's peeing because of a
threat from all of the feral cats

outside this house, as well as the
unknown coming from the cat sanctuary.

You have effectively made two different
territories here. I know. And the guys

never meet. So all you can do if you're
a cat is perceive that there's an enemy

on the other side of that wall, not a
friend. So we're going to break down

wall. Feeding time happens on either
side of the sanctuary door and every

when they smell each other, and then

eventually we're going to start breaking
that wall down visually as well. There

is a complete separation between the two
groups of cats in this house, and now

it's time to get these four cats

Next thing is, we're going to prevent
the ferals from coming in, and I want

this house that the presence of those

So I'm here for my second visit with
Debbie and Brian and their pee machine,

Blinky. The last time I was here, I
learned that Debbie had two cats, Blinky

Baxter, living inside the house, and two
other cats, Clyde and Coco, living in

what she called the cat sanctuary, and
she had several other feral cats coming

onto her property for food. As a result,
Blinky was peeing all over the house,

and Debbie and Brian were at the end of
their road.

Now, I watched their video homework. I
did see that the feeding exercise was

working beautifully. I could see all
four of these cats eating peacefully on

either side of the door, and I think
it's time to start really integrating

home. I also saw them clean up every
ounce of pee, and now we'll have a clean

slate. However, I saw a lot more bad
than good. I saw Blinky peeing

Walking in, based on the video homework,
I'm a little worried.

Now, when I left these guys, I told them
specifically that they had to move the

feral cat feeding stations away from
this house. What's the first thing I

How are things going?

It's pretty much the same as it was two
weeks ago.

Now, I got to bring this up. There is a
bowl of food and water right in front of

your house.

I moved it.

Remember, it was three steps from your
front door. Well, I did move it. It's

I don't know what's going on here, but
whatever it is, I've got to get the

things that I had heard in a long career

that is being completely torn apart by
pee. This is going to take some time.

I know Debbie's having issues, and I
really, I don't know what to do about

It's causing tension.

It's very stressful. It definitely hurts
the relationship.

What's going on here in terms of
bringing in all the cats?

Well, Debbie, however, I honestly
thought about leaving a couple of times

because... Really? I didn't know that.

Oh, well, yeah.

Now, if things don't get better by my
final visit, would you consider rehoming

Blinky?

That's what we'll just have to do.

I don't find it acceptable to give up on
him.

It's amazing to think that the concept
of rehoming Blinky could start tearing

this couple apart, but I see it
happening right before my eyes. That

discord isn't good for the couple, and
it's not good for anybody in the house,

especially Blinky.

Now it's time to show these guys the
solution that I've got in mind.

I have some friends at a company called
Perfect Fence. We're going to build a

fencing system that will basically
enclose this entire yard.

So your guys get to play in the pond,
and they get to climb things. You don't

have to worry about them getting out of
here. Now, this is all, of course, with

your buy -in. From everything that I've
seen, I am convinced that the problem in

this home is not in this home. It's
outside this home.

If we can keep the ferals off the
property and keep Debbie's cats on the

property, sharing space both inside and
outside, I think that Blinky's going to

be much happier and a much more
confident cat.

I just need Debbie and Brian's buy -in.

I'm busting my ass doing this pond and
everything, and I think it's gorgeous

just the way it is.

So I hear a perfect fence, and I think
to myself, oh my God, fencing all over

the place.

What the hell?

Blink wants out. He struggles to get
out. He is so unhappy.

I want him to enjoy the yard just like
we do.

I want it.

There you go.

There you go. Yep.

Didn't mean to cause more strife. One
thing is perfectly clear. Like it or

Debbie calls the shots.

Brian's already admitted today that he's
had thoughts about leaving. I just hope

that he can see this process through
because we still have a lot of work to

here. First and foremost, I want you to
really commit to eliminating any feral

feeding stations from your property. I
still want Debbie to take care of these

feral cats, just not right here. Do it
across the street.

I'd like you to move the feeding of all
four cats out into the house. I want you

to test the waters a little bit. And
finally, get your four cats

This is just a hunch, but I'm telling
you, I think it's going to work. These

four cats can eat together in the same
space. Then the territory gets unified,

and I think that's really going to help
solve this problem with Blinky. All

I love it. I got a parrot on my
shoulder.

Between the first visit and today's
visit.

I had unrealistic expectations of the
kitty miracle worker. Now I know that

going to take a lot longer to fix that

I frankly think this will be a complete
failure.

I'm here for my last visit with Debbie,
Brian, and their cats, Blinky, Baxter,

Clyde, and Coco.

Now, the last time I was here, the cats
were eating together well, but there was

still a lot of peeing going on, and I
was shocked to discover that Debbie was

still feeding those feral cats way too
close for comfort.

I got a chance to look at Debbie and
Brian's video homework, and I was really

happy to see that all four cats were
eating together with no door separating

them. I also got to see that the perfect
fence has been installed.

Now, today, what I don't want to see is
pee inside. I don't want to see feral

cats anywhere near the cat sanctuary,
and I hope both of the cats and the

humans... are getting along.

Big fingers crossed.

What's going on?

They're getting a lot better. A lot
better?

Yay!

Oh, that's good news. In terms of the
pee, it's slowed down to a manageable

place with him?

It stopped in the house. I mean, that's
a huge thing. I haven't had any pee in

this room in at least three days.

So I am thrilled. I'm beyond thrilled. I
can have my life back. We slept in our

room together last night. Now that's a
miracle. Yeah. No wonder you're smiling.

Okay.

My relationship with Debbie has improved
greatly by just the cats getting along

and her getting her house back. The pee
is definitely very minimal. I mean, and

even the smell has been reduced greatly.

All right.

Now that things are contained in here, I
want to go outside.

Let's go. Let's go.

Look at that.

That's what we wanted, man.

We got cats outside.

We got fencing up.

Look at how killer this looks, man.

It's a sanctuary yard now, not a room.
The concept of that sanctuary, is it

gone? Yeah, it's a bedroom. Say that
again?

It's the guest bedroom. It's a guest
bedroom. The cat sanctuary yard has

benefited the cats.

So much. They get to go outside.

They get to watch the birds. They get to
chase butterflies. They sit near the

pond and look at the fish and love it.

So the best thing that I've seen is
Blink. He's sitting. He's quiet.

There's not that constant guarding, the
parading around.

And that I knew was the key to this
whole thing.

The fence is designed with a 45 -degree
angle at the top, keeping the cats from

being able to climb it. That way, no
cats can get out and no ferals get in,

which will give Blinky the peace of mind
he so desperately needs.

Oh, he has relaxed a lot. He wanted to
just go outside and be free.

In the beginning, I had my reservations,
but then I realized that she's

definitely a lot happier and that the
cats are a lot happier, and naturally,

that's going to make me a lot happier,
too.

What has gotten him into that mellow
place?

Not feeding the ferals and the strays so
close to my house. And him having the

freedom to come and go as he wants has
made a big difference. And he tires

himself out.

On cue.

On cue. I love you so much. He's happy,
this is all. Before Jackson came out, we

were at a point to where our
relationship was definitely suffering.

I actually did see.

A different Debbie last night. And we
did something last night. Oh, yeah. That

we haven't done in a really long time.

Yes, we slept together in our bed.

arrived, I really felt very hopeless

around here. And now I've got my life
back. And I'm enjoying my kitties.
