of a heart attack

in Bristol Bay, Alaska,

June 13th.

On my son Cadence's birthday,

while we were eating cake.

Lost a lot of people,
but you don't think

it's gonna happen to you.

My uncle Nick
pulled me out of

the murky waters
of addiction.

He gave me this job
that I have now, crabbing.

It's the biggest gift
that I've ever been given.

I was so miserable.

And my uncle Nick...

picked me up
and helped save my life.

What I need to do to make
that tribute the best that I can

to get on big, clean crab.

It's starting to fall off.

I think I'm gonna have
to make a big move.

There's a canyon right here

to the Northeast,

10 miles.

And these canyons are basically
veins where the crab crawl in

to hide from the tides
and currents.

But I only have
four or five days left,

or risk missing my offload.

I don't know.

So we need to get water
in that tank pronto.

but I don't know
how long it's gonna last.

If we had a slack tank
for an extended amount of time,

this tank could have hundreds
of thousands of dollars

of dead crab.

So dead loss is
a huge concern right now.

I figured they were gonna be
moving this way.

of my uncle Nick in me

to know what's
on the bottom there.

Every time it gets deeper,

you get crab.

Our objective is not to lose
the pots on that ledge,

you know, or that edge.

You know, we've already
torn off a couple of pots

by pulling straight up.

We need to pull it out
at an angle.

So to do that, we're gonna have
to get an anchor pot here,

chopped up pot
that they're using.

And once that starts coming up,

then that'll pull it
more at a 90.

So use the currents
and tides to get it in,

and use a weight
to pull them out.

I think we should dedicate
this one to Mavar.
