officers directing pedestrian and vehicle traffic

get word that an SUV drove through barricades

and is now going the wrong way down a one-way street.

One patrol unit quickly tracks the vehicle down

in a parking lot...

She pleads no contest.

a cautionary tale of

how a driver must be aware of their surroundings at all times,

even in some cases before they step inside their car.

A husband and wife say their morning goodbyes,

reportedly unaware

that this white SUV may have been loitering outside

as early as an hour ago.

And when two men get out,

one is allegedly wielding a metal bar

and demanding the keys to the husband's luxury SUV.

And when the husband stumbles,

the attack continues over the embankment

as the wife desperately shouts to neighbors.

But as one suspect breaks for their SUV,

the other appears to snatch the husband's keys

and head straight for his car.

A neighbor rushes in to help.

♪

But their collective effort falls short

and the suspects speed away.

According to news reports,

the husband is taken to the hospital

and treated for minor injuries.

It is not known if the suspects are ever caught

or if the car is recovered.

But on the plus side,

everyone survived a scenario that could have ended...

...in a much more tragic way.

Encountering animals on the road is a universal concern.

that can be triggered by electrical components

which then gets fueled by items like aerosols,

alcohol, and batteries.

And since these fires can threaten a garbage truck's

gas tank,

drivers are trained to expel the burning waste

and pull away

while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.

Thankfully, in this case,

the truck and everything in the area

was apparently saved from the spreading flames,

the importance of which cannot be overstated.

In Hamilton, New Jersey...

...thick smoke pours from a garbage truck

on a suburban street

as a fire rapidly spreads towards its gas tank.

And though, according to news reports,

the truck's operators have safely evacuated,

fire crews are still a good ways off.

the intense heat triggers the tanks pressure release device,

venting fuel into the air...

...causing the explosion,

which launches the tank like a missile through a nearby house

and shatters windows and melts siding on several others.

Four houses are damaged in the incident,

but thankfully residents are able to escape

with no injuries reported,

leaving the only fallout from this terrifying situation...

...a devastating mess to clean up.

As vehicle technology continues to push new boundaries,

so too does the sophistication

that are certain people used to access cars,

such as an electronic relay system like the one seen here...

...where one person uses a device

to receive the key fob signal from inside the home

and relay it to their partner's device,

allowing them to enter the car, start it remotely,

and drive away.

It's the kind of sinister craftiness that, fortunately,

not every alleged would-be thief possesses.

In Miami Beach, Florida...

has no idea how or why this man got stuck inside it,

Moments later, police were on the scene.

But his conundrum continues

until the officer eventually frees the man

from his self-imposed trap.

According to news reports,

he's charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance

and held on a $2,500 bond,

a costly outcome for getting himself in a jam...

a frightening reminder that when helping others in danger,

it's critical not to jeopardize one's own safety, too.

It's just after midnight on the 101 freeway

as Samaritans attend to a driver involved in a crash

near the center wall.

With her car lights inoperable

and traffic continuing to stream by,

everyone on scene is in a precarious position,

made only slightly less so by one of the Samaritans

leaving their car as a roadblock in the high speed lane.

But despite its flashers on,

an oncoming vehicle barely avoids smashing the sedan

and stops just ahead,

followed seconds later by...

Another car ricochets off the Samaritan's

road-blocking vehicle, damaging his left side

and leaving the Samaritans car severely battered

with his tail lights now appearing to be out.

But seconds later, an even more dangerous situation

that one of the other drivers, who's now on foot,

comes to check on at his great peril.

As the man walks along the barrier,

an approaching vehicle can't stop in time,

sending the man leaping onto the barricade

as the crashing car upends against the wall.

Incredibly, the man appears to emerge unscathed

despite the spread of battered cars and debris.

And when emergency services arrive a short time later,

he recognizes how lucky he is.

All I know is I got out to see if the person was okay,

and then this car hit it,

and he missed me by this much.

>> Rescue workers check on the driver

of the initial crash...

...who, according to news reports,

is transported to a hospital.

But her injuries and the cause of the initial crash

have not been disclosed.

Fortunately, no other injuries

from those involved are reported.

But a warning to anyone

wanting to help someone else on the road...

The more time and care taken to protect yourself

and your vehicle when doing so,

the more likely you are to make it out in one piece.
