in the back with

a large caliber gun.

except that Kessler probably
had his back to you

We searched the entire park

There's no sign of the bullet
that killed Kessler.

through the trees

near the lake in Central Park.

Police report they were chasing
a narcotic suspect

in a taxi that the man abandoned
the vehicle inside the park,

then opened fire on them.

When the shooting stopped,
however, no gunman was found,

but a young cab driver named
David Kessler

was found dead in the bushes.

He was reportedly killed
by a .45 caliber slug

from a six-shooter
of a Marshal Sam McCloud,

a peace officer who, we're told,
is on special assignment

to the New York
Police Department.

- This is the fourth time...
- Well, that's enough of that.

If you don't mind, I'd like
to hear what he has to say.

I thought you didn't like
funerals, McCloud.

From sources within
the police department,

we hear that a ground swell
of bitterness

has erupted over this latest
incident

and it's sure to add fuel
to the continuing controversy

over the police use
of their weapons.

We're told new procedures have
been initiated

in the police firearms training

and new guidelines of the
Police Commissioner's

have been more strictly defined.

Yet these tragic incidents
continue to occur.

Now, besides defending
their own men,

police officials must justify
the actions

of a lawman from Taos,
New Mexico.

And city officials are being
asked how catching rustlers

is valid experience for police
work on the streets of New York.
