My hero was born on April 29th,
1958, in Wilton, Connecticut.

´She wore pearl earrings
almost every day´

´and wouldn´t take them off,
even in the shower.´

She was tall and
beautiful and funny.

And her name was Julia Brown.

A year and a half ago, she died.

But before that happened,
she did a lot of amazing things.

I´d like to tell you
about some of them.

Some fathers may enjoy the
pedestal their daughters

place them on.

The best ones step down and
allow their flaws to be seen.

It is from these unsung fathers

that daughters learn what´s
most important in this life.

How to embrace joy.

How to endure sorrow.

And how to live each day
to the fullest

not knowing which of those two
is on the horizon.
