>> Brooke: [ Sighs ] I imagine

they will.

I mean, all I know is what I

told you.

>> Ridge: Poor Emma.

She was just this -- this young

kid, this good person.

>> Brooke: I know, she was a

good friend to Hope.

She was her biggest cheerleader.

>> Ridge: And she wasn't one of

those crazy young women that

would race up and down

Mulholland.

None of this makes sense to me.

>> Zoe: Thomas?

You suspect Thomas of...?

I can't even say it.

>> Xander: Pam said he and Emma

were arguing.

It's not hard to guess about

what.

>> Zoe: Guessing isn't knowing.

>> Flo: But you said that she

she had just heard everything

about Hope, and she was on her

way to tell her everything.

>> Xander: And now she's dead.

>> Zoe: Yeah, but maybe she

swerved to miss something, or

maybe she was just going way too

fast.

>> Xander: Or...

>> Flo: Or there are other ways

to scare drivers off the road.

>> Zoe: You're buying this, too?

>> Thomas: I'm so sorry.

I didn't know Emma well, but she

was devoted to you.

>> Hope: She was a wonderful

friend, yes.

But I'm thinking about her uncle

and her mother and her family.

>> Thomas: How old was her car?

I mean, young drivers aren't

really good about keeping them

serviced.

>> Hope: Justin Barber's a

wealthy man.

She had a nice car.

You --

You really think it was car

trouble?

>> Thomas: I don't know.

I mean, what else could it be?

>> Hope: Maybe she was going

somewhere in a hurry.

Maybe she was driving too fast.

>> Thomas: To get where?

I guess we'll never know.

>> Ridge: We need to make some

phone calls.

>> Brooke: I did.

I called Pam, and I told her

to spread the word to anybody

working late at the office.

I called Steffy and Liam.

They were busy with the girls,

so I'll have to call them

again later.

>> Ridge: What about Hope and

Thomas?

Did you --

>> Brooke: Thomas -- I don't

know if he even knew Emma, but

we can fill him in when he gets

home.

Hope, yes, I did call her.

She seemed to take it okay.

But I know my daughter.

This is gonna be really hard on

her, Ridge.

And it's just not fair.

I mean, she's been through so

much pain lately.

>> Ridge: Well, my son can be

the shoulder she can lean on.

>> Brooke: She has two shoulders

of her own, and she has me.

>> Zoe: You're just determined

to get us all thrown into

prison, aren't you?

>> Flo: What?!

>> Xander: Zoe...

>> Zoe: If you tell anyone you

think Thomas had something to do

with Emma's death, what are you

going to say when they ask you

why?

You'll have to tell them the

whole ugly story, that Emma was

ready to tell about my father

and Beth and the whole hoax we

helped him with, and for what?

Thomas Forrester might be a bit

overbearing, but he is not a

murderer.

>> Flo: And you know that how?

Because his name is on the front

of the building?

>> Zoe: Flo, his father married

your aunt.

He's like your step-cousin.

>> Flo: Who cares?

There's something not right

about him, Zoe, and you know

it.

He swears undying love for Hope.

He wants to marry her and be

with her forever, but he doesn't

want her to know that her child

is alive?

Does that sound normal to you?

Does that sound like love?

>> Hope: Maybe my Mom's wrong.

Maybe it's someone else with

Emma's name.

>> Thomas: I remember thinking

the same thing when they told me

Caroline had passed away.

>> Hope: No.

No.

It seems impossible that someone

so young could suddenly just be

gone, but...

She was such a good person.

I wonder if anyone has told

Tiffany yet, the intern.

She was her best friend.

>> Thomas: It's just like you,

thinking of everyone but

yourself.

What do you need?

Look, I could stay here, you

I could just sleep on the sofa.

>> Hope: Thank you, but I think

I'll be all right.

What about you? Are you okay?

You seem a little shaken up.

>> Thomas: We've all done things

we regret.

But I will never give you any

reason to doubt how much I care

about you.

>> Thomas: [ Sighs ] I, uh --

I think it would be best if we

didn't mention this to Douglas.

>> Hope: Why would we?

He didn't know Emma.

>> Thomas: There's just been so

much talk about death.

He already lost his mother.

And now, when he prays at night,

he prays for Beth.

A kid his age, he should think

that old people die, you know?

Not -- Not babies.

Not girls your babysitter's age.

>> Hope: But what did you mean

by "We've all done things we

regret?"

>> Thomas: Well, I mean, haven't

we?

I, uh -- I was talking about

Emma.

She, uh -- She didn't care much

for me, and she let me know it.

>> Hope: That doesn't sound like

her.

>> Thomas: I don't blame her.

I can be tough at times.

[ Sighs ] You know, I'm -- I'm

so glad that we have each other.

I don't know how we'd get

through difficult times like

this if we didn't.

>> Hope: I have been relying on

you a lot lately.

>> Thomas: There's nothing

I wouldn't do for you.

Nothing.

>> Ridge: Here we have it.

I think we need to have a

discussion about my son.

>> Brooke: I know you think

Thomas means well.

>> Ridge: Yeah.

What do you think?

>> Brooke: I think that he's too

dependent on Hope.

>> Ridge: Or maybe it's the

other way around.

>> Brooke: Ridge, she's being

sympathetic.

She knows that Thomas is

mourning Caroline, but she's not

a therapist.

>> Ridge: I -- I don't think

he's mistaking her for a

therapist.

You want to do it?

Okay, let's do it.

Let's talk about the elephant in

the room.

I think my son is in love with

your daughter.

>> Brooke: And you think that's

appropriate?

>> Ridge: Sure, why not?

>> Brooke: Ridge, she lost her

child, and now her husband, and

Thomas lost the mother of his

son.

He's struggling.

I think what needs to happen now

is some kind of counseling.

>> Ridge: For him or for her?

>> Brooke: Look, don't take this

the wrong way, okay?

But for the last few years,

I really think that Thomas would

have benefited from some kind of

professional help.

>> Ridge: Wow.

>> Brooke: You know that he's

been dealing with some issues,

Ridge.

>> Ridge: Yeah, he has issues

because of me, because I wasn't

there as a dad.

I was never there.

But he's getting better now.

He's working through it.

He's moving forward.

He has ambition.

He wants to take over the

company one day.

And that makes me happy.

And, as far as Hope, he has been

good to her.

He's always been good to her.

That's it.

>> Flo: I don't want to argue

anymore.

>> Zoe: Okay, then stop.

>> Xander: Well, I'm not willing

to do nothing about what we

know.

>> Zoe: What do we know?

>> Xander: That Beth is alive,

and Emma isn't.

>> Zoe: Yeah, because of a

terrible accident.

>> Flo: Zoe, you got to stop

with the denial already.

Is there honestly no part of you

that believes that there's a

possibility that she was being

chased and that she was trying

to get away?

Really?

>> Xander: I owe it to Emma to

find out the truth.

I mean, she loved me.

That means something.

[ Doorknob turning ]

[ Knocking on door ]

>> Xander: Emma's dead.

>> Thomas: I was coming to tell

you.

>> Flo: Where were you?

>> Thomas: Excuse me?

>> Flo: Well, you were in the

building, and then you weren't.

>> Xander: Emma was on her way

to tell Hope everything.

>> Thomas: Yeah.

Obviously she wasn't thinking

clearly.

>> Xander: You knew where she

was going.

I was there when Zoe called you

and told you.

You would have done just about

anything to stop her, wouldn't

you?

>> Thomas: Okay, be very careful

what you say next.

>> Xander: Did you kill Emma?

>> Thomas: Just gave you some

time to rethink that question.

>> Xander: We know you were with

her.

>> Thomas: With her?

>> Xander: With Emma before she

left the building.

>> Thomas: Yeah, I --

I saw her for a moment.

So?

>> Flo: Pam heard you arguing

with her.

>> Thomas: What did I say?

>> Xander: Probably a threat.

We all know that's your style.

>> Thomas: Okay, Emma was all

over the place.

I had to raise my voice just to

be heard.

And if you would all stop

freaking out, you'd realize why

I said something.

She was on her way to Hope,

which means that you were on

your way to jail.

>> Zoe: What did Emma say?

>> Thomas: She wouldn't listen.

She ran out.

I tried to catch her in the

parking lot, but she was already

gone.

>> Flo: So you went after her.

>> Thomas: No, what would have

been the point of that?

Unless I had a plane.

I didn't know what route she was

taking.

I did what I thought was best.

I went straight to Hope.

>> Zoe: You what?

>> Thomas: I thought it was our

best chance to come clean before

Emma could.

How it all unfolded, how the

guilty party skipped the country

and how you guys felt cornered,

you couldn't say anything...

>> Xander: I don't believe you.

>> Flo: Neither do I.

>> Thomas: Okay, how do you

think I found out that Emma was

gone?

I was there with Hope.

I was trying to find a way into

the story, and her mother

called, told her the awful news.

>> Flo: Emma left for Hope's

before you did, so how did you

get there first?

>> Thomas: I grew up in those

hills.

If I want to get somewhere fast,

I know how to avoid Mulholland.

I mean...

>> Zoe: Okay, well, is Hope

okay?

I mean, I know that she felt

really close to Emma.

>> Thomas: No. She's devastated.

They were close, but...

She knows no more about Beth

than she did yesterday, so we're

safe.

>> Brooke: All right. Bye.

[ Sighs ] Well, I think I got

the word out to everybody.

I guess we'll tell Thomas when

he gets home, if he doesn't

already know.

>> Hope: He does.

He was with me at the cabin when

you called.

>> Brooke: Why?

What did he want?

>> Hope: He was just visiting

me.

Wait, is he not home?

>> Brooke: Uh, I -- I don't

think so.

I didn't see his car outside.

>> Hope: Well, he seemed pretty

shaken up by the news.

>> Brooke: I didn't even know

that he knew Emma's name.

>> Pam: Hello?

>> Brooke: Oh, hi.

>> Pam: Hi.

Ridge saw me pull in, so he

opened the side door.

Emma's things from work.

I -- I didn't know where else to

take them.

>> Hope: Thank you, Pam.

>> Pam: This is just so awful.

>> Brooke: Yeah, it's terrible.

>> Pam: I was probably the last

one to see her alive.

Well, along with Thomas.

>> Hope: Thomas?

He was here with me when we

found out.

>> Pam: Really?

Well, must have been pedal to

the metal from Forrester, then.

And, between us...

He was not in the best mood.

>> Hope: Really?

He seemed fine to me.

>> Brooke: Why would you say

that, Pam?

>> Pam: Well, he kind of got

into it with Emma over, I don't

know, something or other.

Anyway, where do want me to put

this?

>> Hope: Um, on the table is

fine, and I'll be sure to go

through it and see if there's

anything her family might want.

>> Pam: Okay.

>> Brooke: Wait, so, uh, Emma

and Thomas were arguing?

>> Pam: Yeah.

I'm sure he feels really bad

about it now.

>> Brooke: What was the problem?

>> Pam: I don't really know.

I went in there to ask about

Robin's baby shower tomorrow,

and...

[ Sighs ] Who knows if that's

even gonna happen now?

>> Hope: Are you sure, Pam?

I mean, he -- he didn't even

mention seeing Emma.

>> Pam: Huh.

>> Brooke: Are you sure you

didn't hear anything?

I mean, it would really help us

to figure out her state of mind.

What was Emma saying?

>> Pam: She wanted to go, and he

really wanted her to stay, which

is kind of strange because then

he left right away.

>> Brooke: The same time as

Emma?

>> Pam: Almost.

He tried to catch up with her,

but she was already gone.

>> Hope: Are you sure, Pam?

I mean, when I told Thomas the

news, you think he would have

said something.

>> Pam: He's probably in shock.

I know I am.

Just this morning, Emma came in

and she gave me this big

beautiful red rose.

She told me that this homeless

man outside her building was

selling them for a buck a piece,

and she wanted to help him.

I forgot all about it till I was

just cleaning up my desk just

now.

I forgot to put it in water, so

most of the petals had fallen

off.

I didn't realize it was gonna be

the last thing I'd ever see of

her.

[ Sighs ]

>> Xander: [ Scoffs ]

"We're safe?"

>> Thomas: Safe from the story

getting out.

>> Flo: Beth is not a story.

What we're all pretending is

true is what the story is.

>> Xander: Hey, Thomas.

You know who's not safe? Emma.

>> Thomas: Am what I am supposed

to do about that?

>> Xander: I don't know, Thomas.

What did you do?

>> Zoe: Okay, can we all just

take a deep breath?

Thomas, Xander didn't mean to --

>> Thomas: Yeah, I know what he

meant.

You can't seriously believe that

Emma drove off a cliff because

I -- I raised my voice.

Or, what, do you think I

have a book of magic spells?

Oh, God, you --

You think I killed her?

>> Flo: We don't know what

happened.

The only thing that we know is

true is that this secret is what

killed Emma.

>> Xander: Emma was my first

friend in L.A.

More than a friend.

I mean, how much loss and

heartache are we willing to

stand by and watch?

Isn't this a sign that the truth

should come out?

>> Zoe: So, what, now we just

all throw ourselves off a cliff?

That's the answer to you?

>> Thomas: Xander's right.

This is a sign.

Emma was on her way to say

something that would affect all

of our lives, and --

and fate wouldn't allow it.

>> Xander: [ Scoffs ] Fate?

Thomas, fate had nothing to do

with this.

>> Zoe: Are you okay?

>> Flo: I guess the adrenaline

finally wore off.

I thought that I was never gonna

see Hope or my new family or

Wyatt, or...my mom, even, ever

again.

Until court, of course.

>> Thomas: Well, that's what

stands to happen if this all

comes out.

I mean, your futures erased,

your families washing their

hands of you.

Are we all clear on that?

Okay.

So instead of accusing me, let's

look at what really set Emma

off.

Your carelessness.

She overheard you!

You cannot talk about Beth in

this building again.

Do you understand that?

>> Hope: Maybe Thomas regretted

arguing with her and he didn't

want to bring it up.

>> Brooke: There's certainly

more to him than meets the eye.

>> Thomas: ...Or Flo will be a

pariah, to the Logans and

everyone else.

Zoe will lose her father,

and Xander will lose her.

And I'll lose my chance of a

family with Hope, and that --

That I cannot allow.
